Chapter 37

***The Next Day***

(It is Kate's day off from work. Ana couldn't help but feel relieved as she needed her best friend now more than ever. Ana knew in her heart that Kate is always there for her best friend. Ana just didn't want to bother Kate as she knew Kate was busy with work)

(Ana stood at the living room window with her head tilted and arms folded against her chest. She had gotten frustrated with the number of tears she shed since last night when she asked Christian to leave. She wanted to be stronger than this. She felt she was giving her power away because of her sadness)

(Ana was wearing black sweats and an old gray sweatshirt with her hair up in a ponytail. She didn't feel like wearing anything fancy when she was such in distraught. Thankfully, she was able to do today's work from home. She knew it was probably more professional to be at work. She didn't fucking care. She didn't feel like being around anyone…especially Christian. She honestly didn't know if she could be professional around him today. That was probably unprofessional or immature. Oh well)

(Kate comes into the living room with two cups of hot coffee in each hand. She offers one to Ana, who politely declines. Kate places Ana's cup on the coffee table in front of the couch. She takes a drink of hers before resting hers on the coffee table, too)

(Kate wraps her arms around Ana from behind to comfort her best friend before resting her head on Ana's shoulder)

Kate: "Did you get any sleep last night?"

Ana: (scoffs slightly) "Very doubtful."

Kate: "Do you want to talk about it?"

(Ana sighs deeply and lowers her head a bit in sadness before speaking)

Ana: "I thought I found my soulmate. I might have been wrong."

Kate: (confused) "Why do you say that?"

Ana: "Christian admitted to me that he almost slept with Elena."

(Kate's eyes grow wide. She gently turns her friend around, so they are face to face)

Kate: "When you say he 'almost' slept with her…what'd you mean?"

Ana: "She was kissing his neck and cheekbones, telling him they belong together."

(Kate takes Ana's hand in hers and brings her to the couch where they sit down)

Kate: "Tell me what he told you."

(Ana puts a few small strands of her hair back behind her ear as she spoke)

Ana: "Christian came to me yesterday and it was obvious from the tone of his voice that something happened. He admitted that something happened and didn't want to keep any secrets. I said okay. Elena had stopped by, declaring her love for him and that they can finally be together as the divorce from Linc is official. He told her he wasn't interested and to leave, but she didn't."

Kate: (scoffs) "What a skank."

Ana: "He didn't force her to leave, but he kept telling her to go. She started undressing herself."

Kate: (wide-eyed) "Oh, shit."

Ana: "She said it was okay to want her and that they're finally free to be together. He didn't want a repeat of taking her back and then she'd turn around and go back to Linc. She insisted it wouldn't happen, but he didn't believe her. Without kissing him directly on the lips, she kissed his cheekbones and neck, tempting him. He almost caved in a few times. But, before he did, he fought off her advances and told her to get the hell out. She is shocked by the tone of his voice as he's never spoken to her like that. He also called her 'Robinson' repeatedly during this, which she is not used to. Before she can utter another word in, Gail threatens to throw Elena's ass out. Elena leaves on her own."

(Kate sighs deeply in response before speaking)

Kate: "First off, Elena's a tramp who wants to have her cake and eat it, too. Christian has told her repeatedly he doesn't want her. Christian's fatal flaw, however, is not immediately throwing her out. Granted, he didn't want to be too rough with her. It's pathetic that the bitch can't get a clue."

(Kate shakes her head angrily)

Kate: "What pisses me off is that, in the end, Christian has a weakness for the bitch. He admitted he's drawn to her. Does he want her? No, because he has you. But, she's like a damn drug that won't fucking go away. He needs to make it clear to her that, under no certain terms, does he want her. I don't believe

he's done that. At least, not to my knowledge."

Ana: (sighs) "I agree. Kate, I feel…and I've told him….that, when things get rough between us, he will go back to her. What if I upset him or don't satisfy him in some way, he'll go back to her. Am I wrong?"

Kate: (shakes her head) "No. When he admitted to you his faults, he put doubts in your head. No one is perfect. I'm not, you're not, and he certainly isn't. But, he didn't help matters by not kicking her out right away. He gave her hope that they may have something."

Ana: (scoffs) "He pleaded with me to believe in him, in us. Kate, how the hell can I when he told me what happened? I want to believe in him, more than anything. However, I'll always feel like I'm not enough. Elena was his first love. He told me I'm his soulmate, but am I?"

(Ana lowers her head and briefly closes her eyes)

Ana: "I love him. I love him so much, Kate. But, I will NOT be someone's second choice. I refuse to be that.

Kate: (serious tone) "I don't blame you and I wouldn't want that, either."

Ana: (shrugs) "So, what happens now?"

Kate: "I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to confront the jackass about hurting you. I warned him not to hurt you: otherwise he'd deal with me."

Ana: (sighs) "Kate, he's probably at work."

Kate: (unbelievable look) "I don't give a shit. Steele, he hurt you! He deserves to pay for that. He needs to answer for that. He doesn't get a free pass for that." (sighs) "Ana, you know I would never betray your confidence. But, when someone hurts you, they hurt me. I know it goes both ways."

Ana: (nods) "It does."

Kate: "I'm going to go to his office as soon as we finish talking to the asshole. He needs to know that he hurt you and you don't deserve that."

(Ana nods in response. The best friends share a hug before Kate gets ready to go to Christian's office)

***Grey Enterprises***

(Christian ordered a bouquet of red roses with a card that said 'please forgive me. I love you' inside the envelope. He was looking out the window in an attempt to get some clarity on the mess of a situation he was in. He almost didn't hear the knock at the office door. He had called Taylor earlier and asked him to stop by. Christian had not only wanted an update on Taylor's talk with Elena, but he desperately needed a confidant. Taylor goes in with his hands folded in front of him)

Taylor: "Does it give you peace at all when you do that?"

Christian: (chuckles slightly) "For the most part, yes."

(Christian turns around to face his confidant as well as friend)

Christian: "Thank you for coming."

(Christian picks up his office phone, calls Courtney, and tells her he's not to be disturbed until further notice. After putting the phone down on the receiver, he gives Jason his full attention)

Christian: "How'd things go with Elena?"

Taylor: "At first, she refused to listen to reason. I told her to leave you the hell alone as you're with Miss Steele. That you moved on and are happy. She claimed that she could make you happier. Then she asked why you're not there telling her all of this. I told her point-blank that you tried telling her, but she wouldn't listen. She started finally getting the picture as I got more blunt. I could tell I was hurting her feelings. I also told her if she doesn't quit harassing you, you'd go the legal route. She asked what that meant. I commented if she doesn't leave you alone, she'll find out. I walked away and left."

Christian: "I'll bet she didn't like the visit too much."

Taylor: "Nope, she didn't."

Christian: "Did she ask you what legal route you were talking about?"

Taylor: (shakes his head) "I didn't give her a chance to ask. She's not too happy with me right now. Like I give a shit, though."

Christian: "I hope that she gets the picture and leave me the hell alone. As for Anastasia, I still want a guard on her incase Elena tries anything or any other threats that may arise in the future."

Taylor: "Meaning Hyde or Rodriguez?"

Christian: (nods) "Yes. Also, who knows what life has to throw at her."

Taylor: "If Elena doesn't get the hint and tries going after Ana, are you prepared to take action against

her? You two do have a complicated past."

Christian: "I lost all respect for Elena the day she spoke ill against Ana. The woman doesn't know how to get the fucking picture."

Taylor: "Speaking of Miss Steele, how did your talk go with her last night?"

(Christian chuckles dryly, causing Taylor to raise his eyebrows)

Taylor: "That good, huh?"

Christian: "She feels that she won't be enough in the end, especially where Elena's concerned. Anastasia is everything I want in a woman. I tried telling her Elena means nothing to me. I fear that it fell on deaf ears. Oh, Jason, I'm afraid that I've lost her. She asked for space, which I'm giving her. She called Courtney this morning, saying she's working from home."

Taylor: (weird look) "Is she technically allowed to do that?"

Christian: (shakes his head a bit) "No, but I allowed it today. Considering that she probably doesn't want to see me, I'll give her a day or two alone."

Taylor: "Think she'll come in tomorrow? Tomorrow's Saturday, but maybe she'll want to make up for missing today."

Christian: "I'm sure she'll be in on Monday." (sighs deeply) "Oh, Taylor. I fear I really fucked up this time with Ana."

Kate: (spits) "Yes, you most certainly did, you fucking asshole."

(Christian and Taylor jump a little at Kate's sudden entrance)

Christian: "Miss Kavanagh."

Kate: (angry look) "I think it's time you and I had a little chat."
