Title: FSOG: From Heartbreak to Happiness?

Chapter 43

***Monday Noon***

(Kate is currently at work. She is about to take her lunch break when Elliot surprises her at her workplace)

Elliot: (smiles) "Hey, babe."

Kate: (chuckles) "Hey, stranger. What's up?"

Elliot: (casually shrugs) "Thought I'd take you out for lunch. Hope that's okay."

(Kate gets up from her desk chair and walks around the desk to her man, pecking him on the cheek. She faces him happily)

Kate: "That's more than okay. It's perfect. Where to, Mr. Grey?"

Elliot: "How about the café? It's close to here, so we can take our time eating then chat a bit."

Kate: (nods) "Sounds awesome."

(He offers her his hand, which she happily takes. They walk hand in hand with Kate occasionally snuggling close to an ecstatic Elliot. After reaching their destination about five minutes later, Elliot helps his girl into her seat before sitting in his spot. The waitress comes to them with a cheerful smile)

Waitress: "Hello, I'm Bianca and I'll be your waitress. What can I start you off with?"

Elliot: "An iced tea with a slice of lemon on the side."

Kate: (grins) "Ooh, I like that idea. I'll have that, too."

Elliot: "A cheeseburger with pickles and ketchup and fries."

Kate: "I'll have a chicken burger with mayo and lettuce on it, along with fries."

Waitress: (nods) "Sounds good. I'll bring them out to you when it's ready."

(Once the waitress leaves, Elliot and Kate engage in small talk. Elliot looks down in sadness now and then, which Kate notices. She tilts her head with worry)

Kate: "What's wrong, Elliot? Did I say something wrong?"

Elliot: (shakes his head & smiles politely) "No, you're fine. You're perfect. It's just that…"

Kate: (concerned) "Talk to me."

Elliot: "I admit that I miss talking to you. We haven't seen each other much lately. I enjoy getting to know you. From what I've seen so far, you're feisty and I love that about you. I just…I just don't want the relationship to be doomed before we really even start."

(Kate sighs in unhappiness at Elliot's confession. She hated hearing that, but it was the truth. She shakes her head in sorrow as she spoke)

Kate: "I miss talking to you, too. You're fun to be around and I miss that. I feel bad because I've been so busy with work. Ever since I started this job, it's like it's taken over my life." (shakes her head in determination) "No more. That stops now."

Elliot: (nods) "To be fair, I haven't done my part. Work and school have kept me busy, as well. Like you said, though. That stops now. You're a fun part of my life, Kavanagh. I don't want to lose that."

Kate: (shakes her head) "Me, either." (smiles) "You're the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. Yes, I've had other relationships. However, the one I have now…with you…I've never been happier and prouder of it. You bring me so much joy." (somewhat sadly) "I don't want to lose that."

Elliot: "Neither do I."

(He offers her his hand that's on the table and she accepts it by resting her hand in his)

Elliot: "I vow to you, right now, I'm going to make more time for you, for us, so we can get to know each other better."

Kate: "I'd like that, too. I also promise to make more time for you, too. Yes, I love my job. I enjoy getting to know you, too."

(Their food arrives, so they dig in. They laugh now and then when they talk about silly things. Him and Christian protected Mia one time when she was getting bullied at school. They pretended she was a princess and they were the princes and they were protecting their princess. Vowing to kick the boy where it hurt if he didn't leave Mia alone. Kate couldn't contain her laugh. One thing she enjoyed about Elliot was his sense of humor)

(Kate told Elliot a sick joke that her and Ana played on another girl that was being mean to others. It was Halloween and the kids in class were supposed to share candy with everyone. Kate and Ana opened up the candies that they were going to give the mean classmate and spit on them, then closed it back up. Elliot was shocked at the joke. Kate shrugged and said that once the classmate discovered the icky candy, she knew someone played a cruel joke on her to teach her a lesson in hurting others. The teasing then stopped. Elliot joked that he better not mess with Kate otherwise she'll turn on him, too. Kate laughs and winks at her beau)

Elliot: "What do you like to do for fun?"

Kate: "Even though I do like to joke around, I'm a romantic at heart. I love a good romance movie with a happy ending. I enjoy to be spoiled now and then with flowers and candy."

Elliot: (smiles & nods) "Good to know. I enjoy comedy movies, but I don't mind a romance movie if it's a good one and it catches my interest. I enjoy football and hockey."

Kate: "Ooh, hockey games are good. Depending on the team, I can get into football."

Elliot: "When the school year isn't so busy, I'm a cook at 'The Olive Garden'. It pays the bills and I'm able to save some afterwards."

Kate: "How long have you been working there?"

Elliot: "It'll be five years this July."

Kate: "I can't remember if I asked you. What is your major at school?"

Elliot: "Computer Information Technology. I've always been fascinated with computers. When I was younger in my teens, I'd tried taking computers apart and putting them back together."

Kate: (raises her eyebrows) "Oooh, you'll be a computer whiz by the time you're done with college. I'm very impressed."

Elliot: (laughs) "I hope to be one. I'll be done with school in another year if it all goes well. I spoke to Christian that once I'm done with school, I'll be able to fix his computers. He won't have to hire anyone."

Kate: "What'd he say to that?"

Elliot: (playfully rolls his eyes) "He wanted a professional, the one he's had for years."

Kate: "That's Christian for ya. Too funny."

Elliot: "When did you finish school? Being you're an Editor now?"

Kate: "About six months ago. I've always enjoyed being an Editor as I was one in high school for my high school newspaper. It came easy to me."

Elliot: "You and Anastasia both went to school for the same thing, right?"

Kate: (nods) "Yep. We started at our jobs around the same time, too." (tilts her head) "It's June right now. When do you go back to school?"

Elliot: "In August."

(Kate squirms a bit as she prepares to ask her next question)

Kate: "Where do you go to school?"

(Elliot knew where she was going with this. She wondered how often she'd get to see him when he went back to school in the fall. He smiles sweetly as he answers her question)

Elliot: "Here in Seattle. I wanted to stay close with my family. Mom was obviously happy, but she didn't ask me to stay close. She was hoping I'd choose to stay close on my own."

Kate: (nods & smiles) "You made your mom very happy."

Eliot: (smirks) "And you, too?"

(Kate blushes, causing Elliot to chuckle at his new girlfriend)

Elliot: "To be honest, I'm glad you'd miss me if I'd have school outside of Seattle. I'd miss you, too. But, there's no reason to miss me, Kavanagh. I'm not going anywhere."

Kate: (exhales) "Thank God."

(They both laugh at Kate's confession. They decide to get dessert being they have some time left. They split a piece of cheesecake and continue getting to know each other)

Elliot: "I have a question for you, Kavanagh."

Kate: "What's that?"

Elliot: "We've had a few lunch dates, but not an official first date." (smiles) "Would you like to go out with me, Miss Kavanagh?"

Kate: (smiles happily) "I thought you'd never ask, Grey. I'd be honored."

(They grin with pride at each other before finishing their dessert. Afterwards, he walks her back to work once he pays the bill. They were both excited for what was to come)

***Monday Night***

Ana: "So, how did your lunch date go with Elliot? You mentioned earlier he surprised you with one."

Kate: (nods) "It went well. We both had fun." (smiles) "We joked around and got to know each other better. The more I know about him, the more I wanted to know. He goes back to school in the fall, but his schooling is here in Seattle."

Ana: (grins) "Yay for you. I'm happy for you, girl."

Kate: (nods & smiles) "I'm happy for me, too. I enjoy getting to know Elliot and he feels the same way. How about you? Has Christian said when your next big date is?"

Ana: "He said he'd let me know later in the week." (playfully rolls her eyes) "He did say he had a surprise for me. I have nothing against surprises, but I told him I don't want him to go overboard."

Kate: (points out) "You DO know he's loaded, right, Steele? Of course, he's going to want to surprise you with gifts." (tilts her head) "Besides, that's probably one way to show you how he feels about you."

Ana: (sighs in defeat) "I know. I guess being Jose didn't do anything, I don't expect Christian to."

Kate: "Ana, Christian is nothing like Jose. Christian loves you for you. He enjoys doing things for you and I'm going to guess he expects nothing in return."

Ana: (moves her head in circles) "Okay, you're right. I guess I need to learn to accept things from others, even if it feels weird. I'll get there eventually."

(Kate shakes her head and laughs)

Kate: "Can you believe it that we're dating brothers?"

Ana: (chuckles) "I know. I've never known anyone like Christian, who's warm and generous."

Kate: "I can't get enough of Elliot." (winks) "Who knows? Maybe Christian will invite you over to his place this weekend or sometime soon."

(Ana's eyes widen and waves her hands at Kate)

Ana: "Whoa! Hold on, Kavanagh. I don't know if we're there yet. I love him, yes, but I don't want to rush things."

Kate: "But, you WANT to take the next step, right?"

Ana: (sighs) "Yes. I admit I want to make love with Christian. I just don't want to go too fast."

Kate: "When you're ready, you'll know. Go at your own pace. I'm sure Christian will be fine with that. If he's not, he's an idiot." (chuckles dryly) "How are things going with the bitch?"

Ana: (raises her eyebrows) "Elena?" (nods) "Oh, I confronted the skank at her place. I told her to stay the hell away from me and Christian. He doesn't want her and she needs to accept it. She tried to taunt me about his so-called love for her. I told her straight out he doesn't love her anymore."

Kate: (smirks) "I'm guessing she didn't like that too much. Who likes to be told that they can't go after their hearts desire?"

Ana: (shrugs) "I don't give a shit. She had her chance with him. Now, it's my turn. And you know what, Kavanagh? I don't intend on giving him up." (smiles proudly) "He's mine for life."

Kate: (nods) "Damn straight. It's time Elena the bitch got off her fucking high horse and realized that she's lost him for good." (smiles) "He's all yours now."

(They high five each other and nod in satisfaction)
