A/N: Yet another collection book lol. This one's inspired by the tweet created by /KBRCAlways along with the continuing conversation with /KateMB and /TheFifthSister and myself. It'll be very very short shots with late night thoughts from Rick Castle to his wife Kate Beckett.
Beckett awakes to the rustling of the bed and feels her eyes clench shut, her wrinkled forehead already showing the annoyance of being disturbed in her sleep.
"Beckett? You awake?" her husband whispers behind her, his fingers gently starting to stroke her arm.
"Hmm," she hums, knows he won't give up until she's answered him.
"What if…" he starts and she secretly groans inside of her head. Not again. "...aliens find you as extraordinary as I do, and they come to get you while we're sleeping, and they were invisible… like only you could see them since they're coming for you… what would be our code word?"
Beckett sighs, rolls her eyes, at her husband's ridiculous question. It's not that she believes they're the only living creatures in the whole wide universe but she feels it strongly dislikely that aliens would find and want to visit Earth.
"How about I just shoot them instead? You know I sleep with a gun," she mumbles and she feels his fingers stop at the realization.
"You're right, good idea," he says and when he goes quiet again Beckett shuts her eyes and relaxes. Thinking he was done for the night. "But what if you're not able to reach your gun, and what if they switch you out, a doppelgänger who looks like you and sounds like you… how would I know it's really you?"
Beckett sighs heavily and pushes backwards to lay on her back, which results in him having to move a bit to let her have the space. She looks up at him before she's grabbing the hand now resting on her belly.
"If you ever find me as weird as you need to check then just ask me something only you know," she says in a duh-kind of voice.
"Like what?" he asks and she groans.
"I don't know. Just please, go back to sleep," she pleads but can see it's still haunting him. He won't be able to sleep until she's decided on a word. And so she sighs once again. "How about tiger food? Because we almost ended up as that once."
She can see the delight in his eyes and nods once in satisfaction of her own. When his eyes reach hers he smiles big.
"Thanks."
"Mhm, now go back to sleep," she turns around again and soon feels his arm go around her, hugging her tight.
"Night," he whispers in her ear, kisses her head in an affectionate way before he's relaxing into her.
They both fall asleep as quickly as they woke.
THE END
