Kate wakes up and can't help but wonder what had woken her when she hears the clicks on a keyboard beside her. She turns to look and sees her husband fully focused on the screen in front of him. Her lips pull up in a smile at the concentration in his eyes. He's most likely woken up in the middle of the night with a scene imprinted in his mind and not been able to fall back into his slumber unless he wrote it down immediately. He sometimes keeps his laptop on his bedside table, especially when he's home again after a book tour. It was her idea after waking up and him being gone after a book tour, that time he'd also woken to an idea which he'd gone to his office to write, not wanting to wake her. Problem had been she'd gotten worried about where he was, and that was when she gave him the idea to keep the laptop by his bedside. Because she would rather wake to his fingers dancing on the keys than waking up to him gone.
That's why she's smiling now when she looks at him. It's why she's snuggling closer to him and kisses his arm closest to her, laying her head onto it and facing the screen.
"'M sorry," he says, kissing her head, "didn't mean to wake you up."
She lets her fingers caress his arm while she hugs him. "Don't worry about it, you know I rather have it this way."
"Yeah, I know," he hums as she feels his lips in her hair again. She closes her eyes with her body still snuggled close to her husband. "Now that you're awake though…" she can't help but groan at that.
"Not another one of your nightly questions," she mumbles and he chuckles.
"Oh come on, you love them," he teases and she groans into his skin. "What element are you?"
She wrinkles her forehead and glances up to him. "What do you mean?"
"I mean what element are you? Air, earth, water or fire?" he asks.
"How should I know?" she questions and he chuckles.
"Of course you don't." She rolls her eyes as she sees him bring up a new tab on his laptop and searches 17 November element. Before she can comment on it the answer stares her right in their eyes. Water.
"Hmm, interesting," he mumbles and before she can say anything he adds why. "Mine is fire, we're quite literally opposites."
She chuckles, "I could've told you that already." Then she thinks about it more. "But I gotta admit it's quite weird you're fire, and I'm water."
"Why is that weird?" he asks somewhat offended and she chuckles more.
"Because I'm the one with the firearm, I'm a cop, with a gun," she says with a shrug. "And you're the one following me."
"Exactly, I'm following the flow of your water," he says and chuckles at her growl.
He puts away the laptop after saving the document he's been writing on and lays down to pull her closer to him. She doesn't hesitate to let her leg wrap around his thighs when that's where his hand puts it.
"You're stupid," she mumbles and melts when his lips claims hers in a passionate kiss.
She doesn't stop herself from pulling him with her when she lies down onto her back, her leg still around him and now her arms sneaking up with her fingers landing in his hair as she hugs him closer. They soon pull away in need of air.
"You love it though," he says and she chuckles with another roll of her eyes.
"I don't love it, but I love you," she teases. "Now, shut up and kiss your wife, she's missed you during your damn book tour."
He smirks at her before leaning down to kiss her again, their hands soon finding familiar places to tease. She's so glad he's home.
THE END
