Chapter 1: Differences
Las Vegas, 2021: The wormhole opened and KARR drove through. Two people climbed out, a man and a woman. They were Michael Arthur Knight and Trinity Jean Knight. They had just escaped an altered 1941 where Adolf Hitler had taken over the world and WWII as they knew it had not enveloped the whole world and included the United States, and they had barely escaped. Now they found themselves in a new altered United States but it looked at least the same to them. Michael glanced at a newspaper that was on a door stoop. It bore the date of September 11, 2021 and it detailed the recent rebellion that the Nazi States Of America had started and declaring themselves free from Nazi Germany. Michael looked around and saw buildings either closed off or boarded up. He also saw poles with microphones attached. He then glanced into KARR and saw the internal clock show the time as 7PM as the sun was setting. They then heard a pre-recorded voice intone, "It is now curfew time. Please be indoors as any theft or beatings of you or your personal belongings is in violation in Code 672. This is Mayor Blackburn and hail these Nazi States of America," the voice said and then repeated it. Trinity saw a garage with the Knight Industries/SP+ logos. She looked at Michael and gestured to the garage. They then climbed back into KARR and drove up to the garage's card reader. Michael tapped his access card and the automated gate rolled up and the vehicle rolled in and the gate rolled back down and they saw charging ports for electric vehicles with gasoline nozzle shaped handles and he reached under the dash and he switched the car from the hydrogen fuel stocks and switched over to the electric fuel stocks. "Can we hack into the satellites to discover what the hell is going on," Michael asked. KARR responded, "Affirmative," and the car broadcasted from the front scanner a detailed scan of the world and tagged nations dominated by the Nazi cause. He noted that Russia was coded blue. They heard outside the garage various gunshots and windows shattering. They saw KARR zoom into the Nazi States Of America and how in all cities, crime was up and martial law had been placed into effect. Common people worked during the daytime but at night curfew was in effect where criminals were free to run with permission of the Federal government. They then heard the repeating pre-recorded message come through speakers in the garage.
"This isn't the America I grew up with. We've got to stop the corruption in this nation, " Michael suggested. Trinity gave him a look of desperation and frustration on her beautiful face.
"And how do you recommend we do that, Michael?" She asked. He then embraced her to console her.
"We'll find a way. We have to. We're both products of Wilton Knight, right? What would both of your fathers say?" He asked her. "Wilton I never got to know because Elizabeth kept me from him. The closest time I saw him was when he worked on his prototype vehicle. He was so obsessed with leaving a legacy for not only his children but the world. Jennifer hated him and my brother Garthe was obsessed with twisting that legacy into something corrupt, but I doubt even he would like this world," Trinity said. "KARR, search for Garthe Bishop please," Michael said after a minute. KARR began to scan worldwide and discovered an "underground" rebellion being led by Garthe. They were broadcasting a message of hope on the Foundation frequency to the people. "Tap into that, please KARR," he requested. Suddenly they heard Garthe's voice come through the vehicle's speakers. "Michael? Is that you?" He said.
"Yes, sir. What's going on," Michael asked. "We're at the old FLAG house. Gabrielle has taken over LA and Vegas. You've got to come to us and help us," he said. Michael then nodded, and he nodded to Trinity who climbed behind the wheel and Michael climbed in the passenger side and she had ordered KARR to turn on camouflage mode and the vehicle instantly became invisible.
The FLAG house-Michael nodded at everyone, but he noticed his wife Bonnie Barstow wasn't there. "Hey, RC, where's Bonnie?" He asked. The black-skinned man shook his head, "I'm sorry man. She was killed running parts for KITT here. We got the parts, but she didn't make it," RC said. Michael then fell to the floor as he felt his whole world shatter to hear that Bonnie was dead.
"Who killed her?" He finally asked RC. "Gabrielle Elizabeth Knight," RC said, anger in his voice. He then noticed for the first time, big screens up on walls as they were monitoring the civil war against the Nazi Empire.
"Where is KITT?" Michael asked. "You parked a prototype similar to him. He's under a tarp," RC said. They walked into the garage where KARR sat idly by, scanner tracking back and forth, it's color amber. They then saw a tarp that covered a vehicle. Underneath, Michael saw as they pulled the tarp off was a 2020 Dodge Viper with a modified dash and a scanner in front with a blue color.
"We're going to need to outfit him with some offensive weaponry that Bonnie was able to send us before she was killed," RC said.
"Does KITT come equipped with cloning technology?" Michael asked. He remembered meeting & working with a CIA operative named John Reese on a case prior to the Tonya Walker case and the man had been known for keeping up with the latest technology. Michael had recently met the man again and his mysterious employer Harold Finch who had given him the coveted cloning technology which had been installed in the last version of KITT that Knight Industries had created by Michael and Bonnie and Trinity before their arrival into the past.
"Yes, We bought that technology from Finch Industries who also funds our rebellion along with a cousin of Wilton Knight's. A man named Warren Knight," RC said. "Where is he?" Michael wanted to know. "He's upstairs in Devon's old office," RC responded. The three then went through an old secret tunnel that they didn't know was in the house, and they came out near Devon's front door of his old office. Michael saw a plaque on the wall and one predominant name was Bonnie Barstow-Knight.
"He's in a meeting with the rebellion's leaders, but we should be able to go in," RC said. They walked in and saw Warren who was debating with 2 men and another woman. They left and RC respectfully walked up with Trinity and Michael.
"Warren, this is Michael Knight and Wilton Knight's daughter-" RC said but he was cut off by the man.
"Yes, the daughter of Wilton and Elizabeth Knight. I've kept my eyes on her from England," Warren noticed. Trinity offered the man her hand and a smile. She did not like the man but he was a Knight and just as cold and calculating as her father ever was. Michael smiled at the man.
"I need to refuel KARR," Michael said as he walked out of the FLAG house. He saw the sun rising as he climbed into KARR and powered up the vehicle and he drove to a nearby gas station. The vehicle was switched from his hydrogen fuel stocks,to his backup gas stocks. He then glanced at the attendant. He recognized the man. It was Tino, whom he had recognized from his past.
