Chapter 2: Michael's past catches up with him
Tino walked up to the man, not recognizing him immediately. He had been a gypsy most of his life, until he had lifted a stolen watch off of some crooks and his life had changed when he had met Michael Knight a long time ago. He then recognized him. "Hey Michael, long time no see," the man said. Michael embraced the man.
"Tino! How are you doing man," He said as Tino walked around KARR. Michael began fueling up the vehicle. "Great. I got my GED and opened up this gas station. My sister passed away last year due to cancer and I am still paying off hospital bills," Tino said, sadness in his voice.
"Is this KITT?" He asked. KARR then growled his engine. "No, I am certainly not," KARR said indignantly.
"Oh, sorry. This is the Knight Automated Roving Robot, a prototype design based on an earlier prototype of KITT," Michael said. Tino smiled and said, "I think I like KITT better." Michael just laughed. Tino smiled at the man who was someone he trusted. He walked around and saw the amber colored scanner.
"What can you tell me about what happened in the 1940's?" Michael asked, leaning against the car, his arms folded over his chest. Tino smiled at the man.
"Come in the shop, and your car as well. I've got some old books I need to show you," Tino said, with that gypsy smile on his face that usually told Michael that he had something worthwhile up his sleeve. KARR rolled in and Tino closed the roll gate for his shop just as the probes/drones began scanning for vehicles that were unauthorized to be on the road. Michael saw Tino grab some old history books that were "history" for this alternate reality that was 2021.
Tino pointed to an old black and white photo showing Adolph Hitler holding a tablet.
"That technology is not supposed to be available in the 1940's. It needs to be destroyed," Tino said matter of factly. Michael nodded. "Okay, but I'll need to plan it out with my friends," Michael said. He motioned towards the history book. "Can I borrow this?" He asked. Tino nodded. "It's yours," he said. The two men shook hands and Michael climbed into KARR.
"Don't get caught. There are drones out during the day," Tino reminded Michael. "The Empire will not even see me," KARR said as he activated camouflage mode and he became a military vehicle. Michael guided the vehicle back to the FLAG house. He grabbed the history book and walked in. He saw Warren briefing his troops for an attack on Nazi forces.
"I have an alternate attack we need to try," Michael said as he brought out the history book and KARR digitized the pages. He brought up images of the tablet.
"What is it?" Warren asked. "A piece of Kryptonian technology copied from my great-grandfather. My history encompasses two different stories of two planets. I am a product of Krypton and Earth. That tablet is a copy of the original built to exacting standards and enabled Hitler to conquer the world allowing him to annihilate Jews, Christians and everyone who doesn't fit his ideological worldview. Allow Michael and I to do this while your forces attack Washington DC," Trinity suggested.
"You certainly can't do it here, as the Chancellor is in Berlin," Warren countered. "Hence the reason why we will go back in time and destroy it," Michael said quietly, sadness in his voice. "It's certainly better than seeing our loved ones destroyed," Matt Stryker, Warren's second in command said. "How do we send you back in time?" Warren asked. "KARR has a time displacement program but his batteries need to be recharged," Trinity said. Warren then nodded and Michael and Trinity walked into the garage to see KARR plugged in but his heads up display was lit up a green-yellow color. Michael climbed in to see files being transferred to the alternate KITT.
"How much longer until your charge is complete?" Michael asked.
"57 minutes until charge is complete, Mr. Knight," KARR grumbled.
"What crawled up your butt and died?" Michael asked KARR. Trinity leaned in and looked at him. "He doesn't like time travel. It drains his batteries," she said. "We'll keep you in solar mode in the 1940's," Michael reassured the vehicle. KARR growled his engine. He saw the battery charge lit up green and Trinity climbed into the passenger seat and Michael pressed the Pursuit Mode button and on the heads-up display switched from the red-colored Normal Mode to the green colored Pursuit Mode and he left the car in park but Trinity moved the shifter from Park to Neutral and and the car built up speed and it was gone….
