"Hurry up ya guys! I am starving!" Natsu urged the two as his stomach rumbled once more.
"You know for a- " Gray dramatically paused, he almost said the word 'prince' there!
"For a what?" Lucy asked, looking expectantly towards the ravenette. She could see him swallowed a lump in his throat.
"For a noble guy, he's got no shame!" He announced.
"Hey!" The pinkette was about to protest but Lucy quickly rushed in between the two.
"Nuh-uh! I refuse to allow you two to fight in the middle of a crowd. You guys will draw attention. Do you want that?" Lucy shouted in a whisper, looking at both of them.
The two guys stayed silent as they roamed their eyes around. Sure, they're indeed surrounded by a lot of people and their disguise will be useless if they attracted attention. Especially, Natsu was still wearing his suspicious hooded cloak that hid the extremely pricey attire beneath. Gray, on the other hand, left his hood down. It's as if it's fine by him to act more exposed. He was also wearing a cloak though, probably to hide his clothing too and that sword. Lucy knew it was still somewhere under his cloak.
She still shivered every time she would remember that someone once pointed their sword at her. But she wondered why was Natsu not removing his hood that blocks his sight? Maybe he wanted to hide away his hair? His locks that looked like cherry blossoms? It was odd for a guy to have that kind of hair color but to Lucy, it was still charismatic. She still thinks that Natsu is handsome and cute despite having those features. It's not even bad a thing in the first place. So why was he hiding?
She froze, did she just say that the pinkette is cute? Brushing the silly thought off and back to what was she thinking before, she stared at the two guys afront. They're honest to claim that they came from an aristocratic family but why are they this cautious? Her curiosity grew bigger but she didn't push it further. At least they're not the bad guys, that's for sure, and that's why she can tolerate the thought of disobeying her mother's words to not approach the nobles.
Honestly, she didn't know how they managed to convince her to go and hang out with them. Was it the fact that the two guys have saved her life and she owes them lunch? Or that fair bargain that Natsu had offered, telling her that he would pay for the flowers that she threw at the guys earlier. Or could it be that the real reason why was because he looked at her with his irresistible smile and eyes that bore huge hope in them that she would agree to go eat with them? If she's going to be honest, she might say yes to those reasons she listed out earlier but maybe the main reason why she agreed in the first place was that the pinkette called her his friend.
She didn't really expect that cause they only met each other twice but it seemed that Natsu was one friendly and carefree guy. He had trusted her because she helped him once. He believes in her a lot that he considered her as his friend now. Gray was nice too but she could still sense his wariness towards her. It puzzled her why would he think that she's some kind of a witch or something that was sent to kill Natsu. Lucy fully understand where the ravenette was coming from though. Natsu was gullible. Maybe there's a lot of times already that he was almost got harmed because of giving too much trust and Gray was just making sure of the pinkette's safety.
"Hey, weirdo? How long will you stand there and stare at us?" Lucy heard the pinkette, waving a hand in front of her face while standing right beside her. She didn't notice it was soon dawned on her that he was too close! Way too close!
Immediately, Lucy took a step back to create an acceptable distance between them and pouted, her brows creasing. "What weirdo? You're weirder than me for wearing that thing on your head"
The pinkette turned his head towards the ravenette "Told you it looks bad!"
Gray sighed "Whatever, I am hungry and I don't want to listen to your barks about that hoodie" He said, walking ahead of them. He stopped soon after, looking back at the girl "This is the restaurant where we'll eat right? Magnolia flavor... heh sounds cheesy"
"Who cares if it was! Let's just go and eat! Nyaha!" Natsu immediately ran inside the shop, forgetting to argue back at Gray because of the smell that his sensitive nose had caught. It smelt delicious to ignore and it was coming from the eatery.
But, as soon as the prince stepped inside, the workers blocked his way, telling him to go somewhere else because they can't accept suspicious people in the restaurant for the safety of other customers.
"Hello madam" Lucy greeted, standing beside the speechless Natsu, it was the first time for the guy to be denied. In his kingdom, they'll always welcome him with a smile. The restaurant recognized the blonde girl right away and calling her by that cringe nickname they invented, she asked if the girl was with the two gentlemen.
Lucy nodded and that's all they needed to finally let the three dine into their restaurant.
It was not what she expected. Sitting across from her, Natsu was still sulking in the corner and Gray was reading a book. They're both lost in their own world. She cleared her throat and awkwardly picked the glass of water from the table. She was thinking if she should start a conversation with the two but before she could even decide, the pinkette had his eyes on her already as he propped his elbows against the wooden surface of the table. He was smiling. It still surprised her how quick the guy's mood could change.
"So, your real name is flower girl?" He asked and Lucy almost choked on the water she just took into her throat. He apologized and fumbled through his pocket in panic. Soon enough, he handed his handkerchief to the coughing girl.
Lucy, although embarrassed to take the cloth, slowly grabbed it from his hand to wipe her mouth. God, she could definitely tell that her cheeks are turning red. The hanky smelled so- manly and oddly sweet. It pleased her nose somehow.
After calming herself down, she found Natsu still looking at her, waiting for her answer. Gray was also anticipating her response. What should she tell them? Lucy was in a hot seat and thanked the heavens for the arrival of their orders just in time. The pinkette easily got distracted by his food, eating like there's no tomorrow and the ravenette just shrugged and went on to eat his food as well. They probably knew she wasn't gonna answer that and she was thankful for the two for not pushing her. She was able to eat peacefully.
In her mind though, she was already wondering if she should break another rule that her mother had set for her. Should she tell them her name? Her name doesn't mean that much anyway. It wasn't the prettiest either. Lucy knew they're kindhearted nobles. The reason why her mother didn't like her going near the aristocrat was because the nobles are known to have an ill attitude towards the commoners right? But these two guys in front of her were the complete opposite. They actually saved her and even treated her lunch and promised to buy the flowers. She was very thankful for that. So, could she really trust them now and properly introduce herself this time?
Lucy stared at the two, still unable to decide. She realized that she's still got time before evening and told herself to make the decision later before they separated once more. The thought made her sad though. All her life, this was the first time that someone treated her as a friend. This was her first time eating with other people outside too. It's a new feeling but she was definitely liking the idea of spending time with people you call friends. Sadly, this might be their last meeting cause by the looks of it, Gray and Natsu are on their way back to where they came from. There's no way for them to go all the way back here in her town to visit her.
She decided that it's her last chance to repay them. Of course, the girl was aware that she doesn't have enough money to buy them something fitted to their high status and figured out to give them an experience that they have yet to encounter. Maybe even treat them the best selling magnolia's cotton candy.
"Hey" Lucy called.
"Hm?" The two males hummed, looking up at her as they both set their spoon down on their now empty plate.
"Let's have a tour around our lovely town? I'll be the one to treat food this time. I'm sure you'll like the well-known rainbow cotton candy" She beamed.
"Sounds girly. I don't like it already" Gray stated, earning a death glare from the pinkette.
"I'm in! As long as it's your treat, flower girl!" Chirped Natsu.
And with that, the ravenette couldn't fight back. It's two against one battle and he doesn't wanna waste his time arguing with Natsu if he continued to disagree with the maiden's plan. He didn't want to admit it yet but he could already see that the flower girl was harmless. Still, he can't just trust anyone especially that he's with the prince. A careless close friend of his.
They spent the rest of the afternoon roaming the town and visiting various shops and trying out food unfamiliar to the three. Natsu was enjoying all of it, mostly because he was with this girl. Somehow, she's got that effect on him. It's like he had known her all this time already and he could call her a pretty precious friend. Like literally pretty. He was overwhelmed with joy when the blonde finally handed him a food that looked like clouds with rainbow colors.
Lucy saw the bewildered expression of the two when she gave them the cotton candies and she couldn't help but giggle.
"I'll eat it first, just in case there's a poison" She jested, taking a bite out from her sweet treat.
The guys were soon to follow and they both blinked in surprise as soon as the sweet flavor exploded inside their mouths. Seriously, this is why nobles are missing a lot of good things in their life. They couldn't eat just anything.
"Whoa! It's nice!" Natsu enthusiastically took another bite from his food, enjoying the unfamiliar taste that's spreading across his tongue. He doesn't like sweet stuff but maybe he could make an exception for this foreign delicacy.
"You are right. This dessert is kinda weird looking but tasted good" Gray agreed, eating his own cotton candy.
The trio continued to eat on their way out of the town. The sun was already setting and they knew it was time to go. They stopped right in front of the waiting wagon for Natsu and Gray. The ravenette climbed up first, thanking Lucy before disappearing inside the vehicle.
"Are you sure you don't want us taking you home flower girl?" The pinkette asked in concern, looking at the maiden before him. He couldn't ignore the fact that she was looking so breathtakingly beautiful the way that the faint glow of the disappearing sun brushed upon her skin.
He was unable to stop himself from wondering how can a person be that ethereal. He met a lot of beautiful women already, mostly princesses, all trying to throw themselves at him but this girl right in front of him was different. Very different from them.
"No need sir Natsu. My house is nearby and mother wouldn't want to see me with guys" noblemen, no less. She thought. Lucy then smiled at him, reassuring him that she's going to be fine.
"Alright. See you at the rainbow cherry blossom festival then?" Natsu inquired once again, making Lucy pause for a moment.
She struggled to let the words out of her mouth but eventually managed, staring at him in shock "You know about that?... "
"Yup! I'd like to go this year and I am hoping to see those magnificent looking tree with you. You're my new friend after all!" He grinned, before adding that Gray would also be joining them but he can bring others too if Lucy would like to meet another girl who's probably in her age.
Her heart jumped in joy at how thoughtful this man was. She just couldn't keep being unfair to him anymore. It was too late when she had realized what she just told the man.
"Lucy..." She saw him raised his brows "My name is Lucy" She added, smiling at the man. There's no going back anyway. She had already broken the rules. Her mother's rules.
Happiness washed over Natsu's demeanour. His eyes twinkle in joy. Finally, he's got her name!
"It suits you" He remarked, smiling "You are glowing like a gentle light in the darkness"
"Light?" She asked in confusion.
"Your name means light"
She only smiled at this while watching Natsu climb up onto his carriage "See you soon, Luce!" He waved at her through the window as the wagon started to move.
Lucy could see the pinkette slowly lost the original color of his face as it turned to purple. She felt bad for not bringing a purple flower to soothe him at least but she made sure to give him some the next time she'll see him.
A month from now, they will meet again, to celebrate the festival she loved a lot together.
As soon as the carriage had disappeared from her sight, she started walking in the opposite direction towards her house.
She already can see her home went the air suddenly went still. A voice of a woman echoed in her head. It scared her how familiar the voice sounded like despite being sure that it was the first time she ever heard it.
You will be the light
