Already the evening had smeared the sky with twilight, shutting down the rays of sunshine totally. Stars were rising there one by one. Still, the flow of the crimson sunlight was reddening the murk though it was on the verge of getting smothered within no time. Birds had returned to their nests; done with the day. But the hospital was showing no sign that the day was about to end. Ambulances were in a row beside a large banyan tree, surrounded with a red brick-rimmed podium. Patients were still going in or out, so were the doctors and nurses. Standing at the corner where the stretchers were gathered, ward-boys and other members were waiting for the emergencies. At another side, oxygen tanks and masks were also arranged.
Soon, a microbus stopped there as two workers rushed there with a wheeled stretcher, guessing that it was an emergency. The redhead and the blunette carried the limp, almost-cold body of the VP. The handkerchief tied around his wrist was drenched, losing it unique whiteness into the ruthless red long ago, some scarlet liquid dripping from his fingertips. His breathing was shallow, irregular. Forehead was sweaty; the shirt was clinging to his body due to perspiration. While placing him on the stretcher, the letter fell down from the pocket of his jeans. Noticing it, the American blonde picked it up but didn't read it immediately. Another worker placed an oxygen mask on his face to get his breathing normal. Tala, Julia, Kane and Salima rushed inside the hospital with the capstone, trying to encourage the unconscious Kai. Max and Daichi remained outside.
"I'm going in," Max advised, "If possible, please inform Hilary and give her courage. I think you should return now."
"I was thinking to do the same," The dwarf redhead nodded, "Stay with Kai. If needs be, contact me. Don't worry, everything will be fine!"
Not even finishing his words properly, leaving the blonde behind, Daichi ran towards his car to reach Tachibana residence. Soon, it should be informed to Hilary.
Almost at the same time, in her room, sitting against the bed and placing her head on it, the chocolate-haired girl was asleep. The linear marks of the dried tears were evident on both of her cheeks, melted kohl tarnishing the lower area around her eyes. Ever since her boyfriend had been abducted by the pet terrorists of her father, she didn't stop shedding tears for a single second until she got fatigued. Sometimes, opening the door, the maids kept the plates of the foods on the side-table but she didn't even drink a single bead of water throughout the whole day, let alone eating. The messy locks splayed on her forehead and face, the loose bun and her fingers which were clutching the bedsheet even though she was sleeping were saying how tired she was.
Someone pushed a lockpick in the hole of the deadbolt which unlocked the room as the door went straightly open. Entering, the redhead shook the shoulder of his mistress as gasping, the latter stood up like a spring, rubbing her eyes. Seeing her secretary, the brunette asked, "Dai…Daichi?"
"Boss is not at home now," Daichi's voice was nearly inaudible, "Come with me, ma'am. Fast!"
"Where?" Hilary gulped.
"Hospital," Her secretary breathed, "Kai has been taken there. His…his condition is quite critical. You've to come with me….."
Somewhere, a thunderbolt crackled, Hilary dropped to her knees on the floor, clutching her head. She felt as if she herself had been responsible for this tragic and dreadful consequence of her lover. The news pricked her soft heart badly, her eyelids got clasped as snug as they could be, rippled tears brimming there.
"Ma'am….this is not the time to mourn," Daichi helped her stand up somehow, "Kai needs you at this moment. Badly."
"Y…yeah…." Realizing, the brunette shook her head quickly, "L…let's go."
Rushing out of her room, Hilary came at the top of the stairs and was about to descend it but stopped again as another person roared, "Halt!"
The chocolate-haired girl looked down and discovered her father who was gawking at her with anger-filled auburn orbs, occupied with abhorrence. But those glares could not scare the girl anymore. She'd already experienced the scariest things and news that day. Now, nothing could make her flinch a single inch away from her motives.
"No, dad, don't stop me today!" Hilary cried, stepping down, "Only…only for you, my Kai is fighting with his death on the hospital bed! Your pet dogs nearly killed him!"
"If needs be," Hachiro pulled out his licensed pistol from the pocket of his coat and pointed it at his daughter, "I'll kill you too! Go back to your room!"
Daichi's jaw dropped at the unexpected threat of his boss. He'd never chided his daughter, let alone raising hand on her or hitting her. In his selfishness and wrath, Hachiro became so blind that his hands weren't shaking a tad to hold the pistol to kill his own child. Clenching his teeth, he silently cursed his own master. But the female brunette didn't seem surprised a bit. Rather, she grinned as if she'd expected the same from her father. Obvious it was, she'd already known the true colors of the evil politician. She also knew that he could do anything to cherish his selfish and cruel motives. That's why, she sneered which literally kicked at the teeth of the shrewd, brown-haired political leader.
"Dad, I don't know whether you really have the audacity to shoot your daughter with your own hands or not," Hilary popped the penknife from the pocket of her orange jacket and placed it on her throat, "But this Hilary Tachibana does have the courage to slay herself!"
The open mouth of the secretary went wider as it was more unexpected to him. Finally, the pistol-held hands of Hachiro started shaking uncontrollably as he looked at the stern image of his daughter as well as her frank, yet, bold outburst. He was merely blackmailing her, thinking that she would fear for her life and step back. But his own plan backfired; Hilary Tachibana was indeed a brave and cunning girl. Staying with Kai, she'd learnt how to stay immobile even at the gunpoint. Besides, it was the same penknife which he had gifted her on her 16th birthday so that she could protect herself. Therefore, he didn't have the idea that she could use his gift in this way. Grasping the knife against her throat in the same way, the brunette climbed down the stairs as Hachiro kept shaking his head continuously.
"No…." He bit his lips, "You…you cannot do this, Hilary…."
"Leave my path, dad!" The university-girl hissed as her grips on the knife became stronger, "Otherwise, I'll commit suicide right here, in front of your eyes and nobody will be able to stop me! Get lost from my way!"
Hachiro didn't have any other way except stepping away from her way. Still clasping the dagger against her throat, Hilary retreated, not hesitating to use herself as a bait and ran away through the open entrance door of their mansion. Daichi chased her, pretending in front of his boss to calm her down and bring her back. When the manor became empty, in the fury of a defeat, the brown-haired politician kicked on the ground, gritting his jaw.
"Fuck!"
"Kai Hiwatari speaking here.
Yes, I'm the murder of Tyson Granger, my own junior who respected me more than an elder brother. Yet, I didn't hesitate a bit to take his life with my own hands. Reasons?
My face which is visible to the general students is a trivial mask. They haven't seen my real face yet. I just want to keep sticking to my position which is the highest rank in the central students' union of our university, at any cost. But the honorarium paid to me is not that handsome. That's why, I do some illegal tasks to get extra money. Just like: Supplying drugs and beautiful divas to rich political leaders. Julia Fernandez, my classmate and the girlfriend (Say bed-partner) of my best friend is involved too. She's gained the chair of the assistant general secretary at the cost of one-night stand with me and another political leader. This thing was kept as a secret but one day, Tyson saw the tape.
When he interrogated me about it, I had to confess but I requested him not to inform anyone about it. In return, he also wanted a night to sleep with Julia. But the Spanish hoe wasn't ready because Tyson couldn't do good on bed. I proposed him to do it with Ayaka, my sister even but that bastard was immovable from his decision. He kept threatening me to get me exposed before the general student body and the directory board.
So, I have no option left on that day. Kane, Tala and Max were also with me, helping me kill Tyson though they still don't know the truth. I felt so relieved after removing Tyson from the world but now, I cannot sleep in peace. Whenever I close my eyes at nights, Tyson's restless soul come to me and say that soon, my secrets will get exposed. I tried drugs, cigars, alcohol, music, even whores but I failed to remove the scenes from my head.
That's why, I'm ending my life today, revealing all my dark secrets and crimes that I've committed ever in my four-year long student life in TIT. Those who are reading this note, forgive me. Otherwise, go on and keep cursing me. But don't send my body to morgue for an autopsy. You'll get nothing. Consider me as my last wish.
Sincerely,
A leader (With the mask), a criminal (Behind the mask)."
The page fell from the hand of the American as he stepped back, trying to get a hold on the hospital wall. Julia immediately buried her face under her palms and knelt down on the floor, not able to accept such a heavy burden of humiliation and fake allegations. When they had been being read before her, hearing each and every word, she'd been feeling to puke. It was true that she had a great bond of friendship and understanding with Kai but the VP had never laid a hand on her, let alone laying her on the bed and jumping on her. Everything of the Spaniard was only for the scarlet Russian though they hadn't slept together yet, letting those parts be for their life after marriage. Salima shivered, looking at her blue-haired boyfriend with suspicious eyes as the latter picked up the letter from the floor. The redhead kowtowed beside his girlfriend, enfolding her shoulders comfortably.
"Tala…." Julia stared at the Russian, her emeralds said to him how broken she was, "I…."
"Relax…" Tala placed a finger on her lips and whispered, "You need not say anything, Jules. I know that you're innocent, so is Kai. You both can do nothing wrong. Just relax, okay?"
"Thank you so…so much, Tala…." The dual-haired girl sniffed as he helped her stand up, she rested her head on his shoulder, "I knew that you would believe me."
"Hey…" Tala stroked her head, enveloping her in a gentle hug to his chest, "I love you and Kai is my best friend. I know both of you far well. You can never do it. Why not to have trust on you? After all, it's the base of love and friendship."
Amidst the cascading tears, a smile was formed in her lips. Leaning her head on his broad chest, she started sobbing. Her emotions drenched his t-shirt, he gently patted her back, comforting her. While thinking about such insult of his girlfriend and best friend, his blood bubbled. Though he didn't have the clearest idea, he could guess who'd done it. He wished he could have broken their bones into powder. But his girlfriend needed his support to stay strong at that time. Besides, the condition of his best friend was too critical for him to ignore. He couldn't leave him in the hospital in that state.
"But…" Salima was still wondering, "If Kai and Julia are innocent, from where the hell did this letter come in Kai's pocket? Besides, there was a bloody dagger in the right hand of Kai, remember?"
"Kai and I are childhood friends," Still hugging Julia, Tala looked at Salima, "Kai can never commit suicide, as far as I know him."
"Hmm…." Kane gritted his teeth, "It's a fake suicide note."
Everyone turned their stares at the blunette, silently demanding an explanation. Coughing, he began, "I know the handwriting of Kai far well. Once he sent me some pictures of a few necessary notes for an exam. I studied them so well that I even memorized Kai's handwritings. But this letter wasn't written by Kai, I'm more than sure of it."
The rest of the people gulped at the sharp, deep speculation and the visual memory of the blunette. Their eyes went widened at his skills; they couldn't help praising his acute senses. That's who he was, a student with an IQ of 200.
"Who told you to study engineering?" Salima gently slapped on his shoulder, "You join FBI, this university doesn't deserve you."
"I came to this university only because of you," Kane seductively whispered in her ears, reddening her, "My love for you pushed me to study engineering."
"Guys!"
Pondering, the five saw the brunette girlfriend of the VP coming to them running desperately. Her cherry-head secretary was following her but failing the gain the equal speed. Stretching a hand, he was trying to stop her mistress, screeching, "Wait for me, ma'am! Wait for me ma'am!" which was, of course, annoying the working doctor and nurses around. But the chocolate-haired girl wasn't in a state to calm down when she herself needed to do that. Auburn locks were still messy, the bun was about to get unbound within no time. Panting, she reached her friends, placing her hands on her curved, unstable knees.
"K…Kai…" She was failing to speak between breaths, "Where…."
"Relax, Hil…" Breaking Tala's embrace, Julia neared her swiftly, holding her for support and balance, "Kai's in ICU now."
"Julia…." Her voice was ragged as she grabbed the arms of one of her roommates, "How…how's Kai now?"
"Don't know…." The Spaniard sighed, "Several minutes ago, he was taken to ICU. The doctor hasn't let us know anything yet."
"Oh….." Hilary shortly breathed, her head hung low and bangs covered her eyes so that they couldn't be seen. Invisible to everyone, her pearl-bead tears seeped down, crossing her chin and dripping from there little by little. She was weeping silently but her back convulsed; entire body vibrated. She didn't want to remember them but the flashbacks where her dad had thrashed the VP and his goons dragged him away were coming again and again in her mind. Julia kept stroking her head in order to comfort her, Salima joined her too. They both made her sit on a steel-bench, she didn't stop shedding tears.
"Hey, you're brave, Hilary…" Julia consoled her, "Don't cry, Kai will be fine."
"What…what happened to him by the way?" The brunette wiped a bead of tears, "Why is his condition so critical?"
"He's lost much blood," Tala took a breath, "After Kai had left the campus, Daichi came there back and told us everything. With his help and analysis, when we found Kai out, we saw a deep cut on his wrist and another hand holding a blood-covered dagger."
"Besides, this suicide note was also found in his pocket," Kane showed the brunette the paper, "Although it's fake."
"Surely!" Hilary furiously nodded, agreeing with the blunette, "Kai can never commit suicide, he's being framed! When he came in search of me in my manor, I was locked in my room. In…in front of my eyes, dad slapped him and that bastard Masefield took him away…."
She sobbed, lowering her head as Julia and Salima kept consoling her again. Glancing at her, Tala gnashed his jaw, "It means…Kai didn't take any suicide attempt. That bastard Brooklyn just tried to frame Kai again. This time, with the attempt of destroying the dignity of someone else."
Very carefully, Julia wiped her eyes. Following the conversation, a doctor came out from one of the cabins of intensive care unit and the young people surrounded him, not letting him go. Hilary asked restlessly, "Doctor, how…how's Kai?"
"Not good, I'm afraid to say that," The physician replied, "Along with the cut on his wrist, he got a head injury too."
"What?" Everybody shrieked in unison, yet, totally confirmed of the fact that Kai's injury wasn't self-caused at all.
"Yeah," The doctor nodded, "But about the head injury, there's nothing to worry about, it was not that fatal and we have taken care of it. However, due to severe blood loss, he may have got into a hemorrhagic shock and blood transfusion is needed for overcoming the shock."
"Kai's blood group is O positive," Tala worriedly articulated, "But…none of us has the same blood group here, well, as I know."
"Did you call Mrs. Hiwatari?" Julia asked.
"Um…yeah…." The redhead replied in the affirmative, "Only a minute ago. They'll reach here soon but I don't think we have enough time."
"If the blood transfusion doesn't take place soon," The doctor stated, "There are possibilities that the patient may slip into a coma. Unfortunately, there is no O-blood in our blood bank."
Tala frustratedly punched in the air, not able to decide what to do. Hilary wept; the girls kept comforting her. Daichi was confused, so was Max. Kane remembered that Kai'd donated blood to him once when he had been a fresher and fallen into a road accident. The memory made him feel helpless, crippled, unable. Even their blood groups weren't same, Kai's one was the universal donor. He felt like to cry in his powerlessness then. Going to him, Salima slowly brushed her fingers on his back to sooth him but he didn't respond back to the affectionate touches of his girlfriend. Since when did O positive become such a rare blood group?
"Doctor Wren?"
The physician turned back, seeing his attendant as the eyes of the students also fell on him. Around Kai's age, he had long black hair tied into a ponytail with golden eyes. Wearing a white apron and taking a register book in his hands, he approached his boss, "Here's the data of Mr. Hiwatari. His blood pressure is very low now, so are his pulse rates."
"Hmm…." The doctor checked the reports.
"Has the blood been managed?" The attendant asked.
"Nope, Ray, not yet." Disappointed, Dr. Wren shook his head.
"Never mind," Ray looked at the friends of the patient who were more concerned than previous, "I want to donate the blood."
The doctor screwed his brows; the engineering students felt much relieved. The boss of the determined neko-jin asked, "But...you donated blood before 50 days to another patient, right? The cycle hasn't been completed yet. Then why…."
"It's important now," The raven-haired worriedly watched the students, "Don't worry about me, I can recover."
Staring at his attendant for a few moments, Dr. Wren permitted, "Okay, but be careful. I'm arranging the preparations for blood transfusion, then, I'll call you."
When the physician rushed inside the ICU, looking at everyone, Ray tried to give a sympathetic smile and start a conversation to lighten the heavy atmosphere, "Hey, my name is Ray Kon. I'm a final-year medical student, doing a part-time job here. You all must have come with Mr. Hiwatari, right?"
"Hm," Salima nodded on behalf of her group, "But I must say, Mr. Kon. You've done such a great job by agreeing to donate blood. Thank you so much."
"Uh…call me Ray, please…" Pink hues encircled the tanned face of the neko-jin as he looked at the beautiful scarlet, scratching his head bashfully, "It was my job, Miss. Besides, pretty ladies shouldn't thank or feel sorry, you know."
The redhead nervously gulped, being flirted surprisingly on the hospital floor. Ray was being lured by her serene and majestically beautiful appearance. The blood-red hair and black-diamond orbs casted a spell on him. Though she was tranquil enough, her beauty raised a restless storm in his heart. Kane's eyeballs became sharper than a dagger all of a sudden which started piercing the neko-jin without even hurting him. Hilary was so tensed and depressed that she didn't have the ability to notice it but Tala and Julia, nonetheless, enjoyed it. When Julia secretively nudged the scarlet-haired girl and gestured her to have a glimpse of Kane once, her nervousness grew more.
Meanwhile, a nurse came and informed, "All is ready. Ray, now you can come for blood transfusion."
"Sure," Nodding, Ray again moved towards Salima, "Don't worry about me, Miss. I'll be fine, okay?"
Not even waiting for Salima's response, quickly rotating his face, he straightly walked towards the chamber, keeping the redhead baffled. When he was gone, the blunette seethed, "Who the hell will be worrying for him? We all are worried for Kai, why will we take extra pressure for him? Hmph!"
"Something is burning." Julia sniffed.
"Julie, it's not the time of joking, you know," Tala sighed, "Just look at Hilary once. She hasn't spoken a single word after knowing Kai's condition. Go, calm her down."
The Spaniard sat on the bench by Hilary's side and pulled her head on her shoulder. Within a few moments, Misaki and Ayaka arrived there too. The raven-haired woman was desperately weeping, her cheeks went swollen and eyes were bloodshot. The sky blue-haired girl was also sobbing, holding the hand of her mother. She could remember that she had told her brother before a few days that she didn't want to lose him too like Tyson though she did never have the slight idea that her fear would come true so soon. Misaki was in more shock than her daughter. Almost in the same way, before 16 years, she'd lost her husband. If something happened to her son also, she wouldn't be able to live.
"Mom!" Hilary dashed to the mother of her boyfriend and embraced her tightly, bursting into tears as their speed got doubled. Both they cried together, fearing to lose the light of their life which came from the same candle in the utter darkness.
"Hil….my girl…calm down," The mother was stronger, "He's Kai, my son. The son of martyr Susumu Hiwatari. He…he can never be weak. He'll be alright within no moment. Have faith on God."
"Only…only I am responsible for all of these," The brunette sobbed, "Kai got hurt only because of coming in my search and freeing me…..I…I don't deserve his love at all, mom!"
"Don't blame yourself, my child," Though Misaki was heartbroken, she wasn't deviated from the path of reality and truth, "You have done nothing. Now, only pray to God. Nothing but prayers can do miracles."
"Hilary, you stay here with Mrs. Hiwatari and Ayaka," Tala said, "The blood transfusion must have been done by now. We're going to meet Ray and thank him."
"S..sure…" The university-girl nodded, "But we'll also come."
"Okay then," The redhead allowed, "Let's go."
"Riah, this is the nth time I'm saying that I'm not thirsty," In his half-lying state on the hospital bed, the raven-haired complained, a bit annoyed, "How much water will you make me drink? My bladder will explode!"
"Only this glass, Ray," The pinkette, wearing a white apron, gave him the glass, "As a medical student, you should know that you have to get yourself hydrated after a blood donation. Moreover, the time duration between this donation and the last transfusion is quite short. That's why, you need extra care. Got it?"
"Wish everyone could have a girlfriend like you…" Chuckling, Ray took the glass and sipped from it, forgetting that he'd been complaining before a while. Mariah's care it was called.
"Nope, they wouldn't have." Mariah sat beside him, "Because everyone is not Ray Kon in this world. Honestly speaking, you've done such a great job today, taking the risk and saving a bright life. I'm so proud of you."
"You're the only source of my inspirations, Mariah," The raven-haired guy sighed, "You know, when I was a child, my parents died. I completed my schooling staying at the home of my uncle where I had to do almost all the household chores. When I stepped in university life, you entered in my territory. Even seeing my impoverished state, you accepted me wholeheartedly, Riah. This Ray Kon could never be Ray Kon without his Mariah."
"Stop blabbering, Ray," The pinkette's face adopted the color of her hair as she poked the arm of her boyfriend, "Now just relax, okay?"
"May we come in?"
The pinkette and the raven looked at the doorway where the students from the engineering university were standing. Nodding, Ray permitted smilingly as the group entered there. Hilary was still sobbing, unable to thank the neko-jin though her heart was filled with respect and admiration for the life-savior. Wiping her eyes, Misaki spoke in a broken voice, "Son, I-I don't know how to express my gratitude. Today, you haven't only saved the life of Kai, but also removed the piles of tensions from the heart of a mother, a sister, a bunch of friends and a doting lover. I'll be grateful to you forever!"
"No Ma'am, don't be so formal," Ray sat up, "It was my pleasure. If my attempt to save the life of Mr. Hiwatari comes successful, I'll really feel very glad."
"It's for you." The female scarlet handed the neko-jin a bottle of juice, "Fluid is needed a lot after blood donation."
"Hehehe…." Again, Ray turned pinker than the hair of his girlfriend, "Thanks, my lady."
Both the pinkette and the blunette murderously glanced at the neko-jin. Yet, the male one was more intelligent and calm-headed. Coughing, he spoke, "Hey, you're a medical student, aren't you?"
"Um…yes."
"Thank goodness!" Kane protectively held the shoulder of his girlfriend, "You know, medical girls are so nice and gentle to handle. But, don't know why, what the engineering girls think of themselves! As if they were the presidents of Japan!"
Ray frowned but Kane continued, watching the blush-ridden face of the scarlet, "They all are very dangerous and bossy! When they will talk to you informally, you will get the feeling of getting whipped! Especially when you are a doctor, they will eat all your head, not even leaving a single crumb of your brain. Only the engineering boys have the courage as well as the capability to handle the engineering girls, that's a reality!"
Swallowing, Ray looked at Salima once who was admiring each and every word of Kane, gazing at him filling her eyes with love. Immediately, the neko-jin understood why Kane was saying those words to him. He felt that someone had put his heart under a hydraulic press and the small piston was crushing it. He got the fits of cough; Mariah came to him for soothing him by stroking his back.
'Got your eyes stuck at another girl, huh?' The pinkette whispered in his ears, 'Guess you'll never change.'
Ray gave her a horrified look, Salima silently praised her boyfriend for his sharp IQ and common sense that, once again, protected her from the eyes of a potential playboy. Right then, a nurse entered the chamber and asked, "Who are with Mr. Hiwatari here?"
"We." Leaving the neko-jin and the pinkette, all hurried.
"Dr. Wren is calling you all to meet him." The nurse left the room. Looking at Ray, Hilary finally spoke, "Thank you so much, Mr. Kon. I'm so grateful to you."
"Hey…" Ray smiled at her like a brother, "No worries, Miss. Your love will be perfect within no moment, he's strong."
"Yeah…." She blushed, tucking her tresses behind her right ear. Giving another thankful smile at the neko-jin, they all departed, leaving the duo in the chamber, thus, providing them with some privacy. When there remained only those two, Mariah poked him again and pouted, "What was going on with that fire-head?"
"Hey….I'm sorry…." Ray scratched his head, "Actually…"
"Hmph!" Mariah turned her face away, "Now manage me!"
"I know how to manage you." Ray pulled her closer by the arm as she landed on him.
"How?" Mariah flushed, feeling her heartbeats rising gradually but unstoppably.
"In this way."
Cupping her face firmly, the raven-haired crushed her lips with his, making her totally stupefied as well as calming down her annoyance with the fiery, hot-pink kiss.
.
"Doc," Misaki asked worriedly, "How's my son now?"
"We hoped that he would be fine after the blood transfusion," Dr. Wren put off his spectacles, "However, it is way more complicated than our thoughts."
"What do you want to say?" Tala was impatient and eager.
"The blood transfusion and other treatments are successfully done but the patient isn't responding still, sorry to say," The physician declared, "Still, he has the risk of losing his life. I guess we have to wait till tomorrow morning. If he doesn't regain his senses, I am afraid that...anyways, just have faith on God."
Another thunderbolt dropped on the head of Misaki, Hilary and Ayaka. The raven-haired woman was shaking violently, the dual-haired girl held her. Hilary felt that her heart stopped without giving any warning like a defunct clock. The blunette asked, "Doctor, may we see him once?"
"Hm," Dr. Wren permitted, "But you have to watch him from outside. Come with me."
The physician led them and stopped before a room. When he entered there, they all looked inside through the window. The slate-haired patient was lifelessly lying on the white hospital bed, covered with a white sheet till his chest. Various tubes and wires were connected to his body, saline tubes and the sack of blood hanging from the bed-stand. He became paler than his usual skin tone, almost overthrowing the color of the bedsheet. Eyes were closed, breaths were shallow still, despite having an oxygen mask on his face, the transparent surface of the mask getting blurred due to his painful exhalations. The heart monitor was showing his ECG graph:
"Beep…beep…beep…beep…"
Though Misaki had the confidence and faith, still, her eyes couldn't bear the vulnerable and weak sight of her ever-brave, ever-determined son. She sniffed, getting comforted by his friends but the brunette didn't come there to soothe her. Her eyes didn't move a single inch away from her lover, at the other side of the glass window. Her fingers travelled on the glass surface as if they'd been trying to touch him, penetrating the barrier. The transparent, yet, impregnable barricade was hard; hit her hard like the tough reality. She tried to reminisce his image of their first meeting. He'd been so strong, fierce then. Was he still?
No no, weakness was 180-degree opposite to Kai.
Silently, he was lying on the hospital bed. He was always wordless, at least, most of the time of the day. It was his choice, Hilary knew it. That's why, she used to enjoy his silence. But on that day, his bizarre muteness was piercing her like a knife. She was bleeding quietly, invisibly. Already her tears had dried. Instead of grief, emptiness occupied her heart. Now, if she stepped on the glass shards and walked along them, barefooted, they couldn't bleed her feet. Then she had no feeling. Not the emotion of shedding tears at the comatose state of her lover. Not the urge to badmouth her father. Nothing. So numb she went.
"Ty…Tyson…." Kai mumbled in his unconscious state, tilting his head a bit. Hilary couldn't listen to him but from the movements of his lips, she effortlessly understood what he was saying. Other doctors and nurses became busy, jabbing some needles in his arms. He gasped; his pulse rate lowered more.
The blankness of her heart started to occupy her brain too. She had eaten or drunk nothing throughout the whole day. Weeping and crying, she had also lost nearly all her energy. The sight of her unconscious boyfriend started getting faded before her eyes, white smokes claimed that place. Unknowingly, a lot of sleep was landing on her eyelids, literally crushing them. She didn't know how to stop such a heavy flow of slumber. Suddenly, her weight decreased to herself a lot. Feet shook, so did her heart. The ground crumbled underneath her feet, she felt that she was falling, deep, deeper, way deeper in the ground….
"Thud!"
"Hilary!" Her friends swiftly neared her limp figure fallen on the ground. She fainted very badly due to her fatigue and starving. Thankfully, two nurses were there. They lifted the brunette and shifted her to a spare cabin, jabbing a needle in her arm, providing her with some instant glucose solution. The students, Misaki and Ayaka watched her anxiously as a doctor checked her heart rate and pulse.
"She'll be fine," He declared, assuring the people, "She's just collapsed due to exhaustion and the lack of food in her stomach as well as a temporary dehydration. When she wakes up, she needs to eat something as soon as possible. Let her rest for tonight."
The night was spent by the brunette through a deep sleep but the other people in the hospital were awake. Nobody really had the wish to eat or drink anything but when there was Daichi, everyone had to accept defeat before his stubbornness. Max also joined him, trying to cheer the elders up and lighten their mood. However, sleep couldn't invade anyone's eyes. Leaning against the walls or the benches, sometimes striding around, they kept themselves busy as if their siesta had been snatched by the lovebirds. They were in peace the most. Well…were they really?
The slate-haired young man found himself on the brink of a river. His ruffled hair blew in the gentle breeze of the spring though he couldn't guess which season it was. In the same rhythm, the emerald leaves of the nearby tree were wafting, fanning him and giving him shade. White clouds were swimming in the ocean of the blue horizon. The river was narrow and shallow but the water was so clear that the colorful pebbles under the surface were visible to him, along with the tiny flamboyant fishes which were waggling their tails playfully. The water was flowing like a curvy silver ribbon. By another edge of the river, who was standing?
"Tyson?!"
Kai wrinkled his brows as the navy-haired guy turned back, their eyes clashed. The dual-haired guy measured the depth of the water level. He could cross the river on foot, very easily. But when he was about to dip his feet in the water, Tyson stretched a palm before him, raising his eyes. Those auburn orbs were always cheerful, vibrant. From where did so much calmness came there? Kai was shocked.
"Don't come here," The blunette whispered which, of course, wasn't inaudible to the VP, "There is no seat reserved for you yet."
The leader stopped, Tyson continued, "It's not for you, Kai."
"I thought death was for everyone." Kai muttered.
"It is," The navy-haired replied, "But your time hasn't come yet. Still, you have to do a lot of tasks."
The slate-haired remained still at his position, Tyson continued, "An accident can occur for the first time but not the second time, Kai. You have to go back and accomplish your job. Though this place is peaceful here, I am not happy at all."
"Why?" Kai couldn't find out why Tyson was sad even in a peaceful place where there was no pain, no grief, anger, hatred or sins.
"Do you wanna know why?" Tyson's voice split the air, his outburst exploded in the discreetness of the heavenly environment, "Then listen! Those goons stabbed me from behind at that night when I was coming to your room, dealing with them! On the hostel ground, I was lying on my chest, helpless, alone, mis…miserable! Blood was flowing from my wound; I was losing all my energy. Breathing was getting difficult for me. Whenever my eyes were on the verge of getting closed in pain, I-I could hear those devils laughing the blood-freezing laughter of their wild exultation of snatching my life ruthlessly from me! Kai, I…did nothing to them. I had no fault. Yet, I had to sacrifice myself! What was wrong with me, Kai? What was my guilt? What was my crime?!"
The dual-haired young man bent his head low; he didn't have the courage to answer. Sniffing, Tyson continued, "I committed no crime, Kai, nor did you. An injustice happened with me. Why will you again let it be with you? Kai, you were born to remove injustice from the society, not to suffer from it. Besides, this Tyson Granger deserves justice. If he doesn't get it, he'll get the feelings of being crippled in a dark, congested prison even in this open field or riverbank."
Taking a breath, the blunette restarted, "Kai….you'll give me justice, won't you?"
"T…Tyson…" He mumbled…
When the imaginary conversation was going on between the late blunette and the dual-haired in the nightmare of the latter, the doctors were calming him down, putting sedatives and other stuffs, trying to get his condition improved. Soon, they noticed the change in the ECG graph, appearing in blue on the screen of the heart monitor…
Along with the sunrise, the brunette rose, opening her eyes and facing the white ceiling from the hospital bed. The headache was still sheer, throbbing around her brain and nerve cells. Clutching the bedsheet and squinting a bit to get her eyes adjusted with the sudden amount of light, she tried to get up as a pair of hands caught her back.
"You're awake!" Julia was relieved, "Thank goodness!"
Just then, the female scarlet rushed in the room, panting, with her knees bent and palms flatly positioned on them. The brunette and the twin-haired gave her confused stares.
"Salima?" Julia stood up, leaving Hilary's side, "What happened?"
"K….Kai…." She was failing to finish her words. The brunette gulped, her grasps on the white bedsheet went tighter.
"Salima…." Hilary whispered blankly, "What…happened to Kai?"
*Gulps* What will happen to Kai? Will be revealed in the next chapter. I'm expecting it to complete it on 12th chapter.
Besides, about the KaneSalRayRiah part...hehehe, guys, old habits never change... ;P
RaySal fans: You bloody cheater, betrayer! We thought that you were our sister *Chases me with brooms and shoes*
Misty: *Runs and hides behind Nain and Nia*
But honestly speaking, feeling much glad after writing a RayMariah scene after a long time because they were my first-ever OTP, I liked them even more than KaiHil when I joined this site. Will publish a RayMariah AU one-shot soon, plotline in the medieval era which kinda matches a play directed as a scene of a famous bollywood movie of Madhuri Dixit, quite based on dance and culture.
Dear Chiya, I hope you've liked it! :D
And dear readers, there comes a poll: Should Kai get killed too? Or not? The next chapter's outcome may be based on the poll result. :P
After everything, do read and review. Pardon the grammatical and spelling errors. Take care and stay safe :D
