Gotham City. There isn't a place quite like it. A city with a rich and storied history. This almost storybook history filled with everything you would find in a fairytale. Crooked and corrupt individuals. Monsters that take on different forms. The unlikeliest of heroes rising up from the shadows to save the day. Oh yes there isn't a city quite like this one. A city that has been fairly quiet over the last few years thanks to the return of the city's greatest hero.
The Return of The Batman. A headline she can still remember seeing long ago across her laptop's screen. A headline at the time had sent shivers up and down her spine and for good reason. The Batman was always feared. Especially by her and those she had once associated with and his return was no different. A Batman that was so similar yet different than the first. Brand new suit. Brand new gadgets. A Batman that underneath the suit was sporting a new face. A much younger face. The face of a protege. The next great hero to watch over the city and pick up right where the first had left off at.
A Batman that she had encountered on more than one occasion with every single time ending the same way. Ending with heartache. Ending with bruised egos. Ending with steel being applied to her wrists. A life that is long behind her now and there was no point in living in the past when she has a future to look forward to. A much brighter future. A future with the man kneeling by her side right now as they look down towards the very city they protect every single night or so that is what the old man wants them to do anyways. Why he always insists on having these patrols every single night was beyond her. Nothing ever happens anymore anyways. Not since crooks had wised up knowing The Batman was back. Fear that can be felt even now was the third hour of their patrol passing on by with no crime activity being reported. No break-ins. No robberies. Not even any Jokerz sightings. Absolutely nothing and it was starting to get on her nerves. The only good thing in her mind that would come from this would be having a long sleep in the following day without needing to worry about anything. No needing to worry about school. No need to worry about any prior engagements.
But still despite this. Despite knowing she will have all of her Sunday to sleep in and relax she can't keep the annoyed look from forming across her face. A look that can be clearly seen through her mask as she sits on the rooftop with her hands resting underneath her chin. A black mask. A mask quite similar to her companion's own. This mask that is suddenly pulled off freeing locks of blonde hair. Revealing these teal blue eyes that stare ahead with nothing but annoyance. This movement that is caught by another as he turns his eyes away from the city to glance down towards her with a grin forming underneath his mask.
Melanie Walker. The daughter of The Leader of The Royal Flush Gang. Once a central part in the gang's life of crime. A criminal now turned hero. Black and white ditched for black and yellow. Guns and knives ditched for batarangs and gadgets. The criminal once known as Ten long gone with another reborn in her place. A familiar figure that hasn't graced the city with her presence for quite some time until very recently. The Return of The Batgirl. A headline that quickly made waves. Quickly had helped quiet things down even more than they already were. Perhaps that is why nothing exciting has happened recently? The crooks and thugs were too scared to come out of hiding knowing there are two heroes now out there watching over the city.
And he was grateful. Not just because of the burden she helps ease every single night she comes out here with him. No it was much more than that. He was truly grateful to have her in his life. Ever since that night when they had been reunited everything in his life has just gotten better. An understanding girlfriend that would never ask him questions about what he does at night. Would never ask him why he has to leave so suddenly. Instead she would be right there by his side. Would be right there looking out for him on every patrol. On every single night they would in her words play trick or treat.
But it was much more than that. So much more. Because of her presence so much in his life has changed. This once rapidly declining relationships with his family were now never better. In fact they were stronger than he had ever. Though he had a couple of ideas why that is so. A mother that though hasn't said the words out loud from her actions alone shows she approves of his choice for a life partner though they haven't gotten that far yet. A little brother that once gave him such a hard time now idolizes him and tries his best to follow in his footsteps but the reason why was one that was easy to figure out. Especially since the night he had unmasked himself in front of him and watched his little brother's eyes light up in awe. Heck even his grades have improved. Yep everything has been going great.
" It's quiet. Yet again."
Suppressing the chuckle that wants to escape his lips nodding his head in agreement lowering the binoculars in his hands down slightly to look her way seeing nothing but her frowning down at the city looking as though she wants to be anywhere but here unable to help the smile that forms underneath his mask turning his head back forward Batman lowers his eyes once again to look towards the city.
" Too quiet."
Instantly feeling her eyes on him glancing over towards Melanie seeing nothing but her looking his way with a raised eyebrow raising his hands up in mock surrender with a nervous smile receiving nothing but a huff escape her lips Terry watches her turn her head back forward to look down towards the city leaving nothing but this intense silence between them. Silence that after a few seconds is broken when she sighs and gets up from the ground to stretch out her arms over her head. A sight he can't help but watch in silence. It was as though The Batgirl Suit was made just for her. The way it hugs her curves so perfectly. The way it just fits her like a glove as though she was destined to become the next Batgirl. Though Barbara Gordon might have something to say about that.
This sight he can't take his eyes away from even after she gets done stretching and turns to look his way with a predatory grin across her face as though she knew he was staring the whole entire time. A grin that only widens as she slowly starts to make her way back towards him swaying her hips seductively until she reaches his side and leans up to whisper into his ear.
" See something you like?"
Leaning her head back getting her answer from the way his eyes have glassed over unable to help herself from smirking gently turning his head with her gloved hands so that he can fully face her reaching up very slowly Melanie starts to lift up The Batman mask up revealing the bottom half of Terry's face. A motion that makes his eyes go wide in shock from being unmasked out in public for anyone to see but he wouldn't stop her. Especially when she leans forward with her intentions on display making him do the same with closed eyes. Only he doesn't feel her lips connecting against his own. Instead he feels nothing but her hot breath hitting his exposed skin.
" Good because as fun as this was we're going home."
Snapping open her eyes to stare at her with shock that does nothing to faze her feeling his hand being grabbed putting up no resistance whatsoever with a tug Terry feels himself being pulled by Melanie back towards the edge of the rooftop. Truly the only rooftop that could overlook most of the city. There was no doubt in his mind about it now. A rooftop none would ever suspect to find them standing on. That is if anyone could even see them from the far down below anyways.
Feeling his hand being released glancing down seeing Melanie snatching up her mask from the ground reaching up to fix his mask following in her example moving to stand on the edge of the rooftop just as he is about to leap off this sudden static coming from his earpiece makes Terry share a look with Melanie and from the look in her eyes he knew she wasn't look quite pleased underneath her mask.
" No you're not. There is still work to be done."
Yep there would be no mistaking it now. From the way her eyes harden. From the silent sound of her gloves cracking as her hands clutch into fists by her side. She was definitely not pleased and he couldn't blame her. Everything that she has stated is true. These every night patrols were pointless. Stupid even. Why should they continue to do this every single night when nothing happens? Nobody was stupid enough to pull anything knowing there was the possibility they would run into Batman and Batgirl.
" Oh yes we are. We have already wasted our Saturday night sitting here doing absolutely nothing and I would like to have at least one day to myself with my boyfriend before we have to go back to school on Monday. And don't even think about hitting that little kill switch of yours. I swear to god if you try that crap on me, I'll personally put you in a nursing home."
Ignoring the growl she can hear from the other side of her earpiece glancing over towards Terry to give him a quick wink earning her another look of shock that quickly turns into a grin returning the look deciding she has heard enough with a flick of her index finger Melanie turns off her earpiece and nods her head down towards the city down below.
" Shall we?"
Nodding his head reaching up to disable his own earpiece with the grin returning to his face Terry motions Melaine to go first with his right gloved hand.
" Ladies first."
Rolling her eyes taking a tiny step forward so that half of her foot is off the rooftop glancing over her shoulder Melaine gives Terry a knowing look despite the pleased smile across her face.
" Enjoy the view."
Without giving him a chance to respond Melanie leaps off from the rooftop causing Terry to take a few steps forward before she suddenly reappears in his vision as she soars off into the horizon making him shake his head with a wide grin forming across his face.
" God, I love that woman."
Staring at her retreating form until he can no longer with his grin only widening with a leap Terry takes off into the sky and goes soaring across the city in the same direction she had just gone.
