Wayne Manor. It was just like how she remembered it. Empty rooms littering the second floor. The sudden chill you would feel whenever you started to walk around. This almost dead atmosphere that fills the air and for good reason. A mansion that once had been filled with life from time to time. A small family torn apart by tragedy. A new family formed over the years only to drift away and go their separate ways leaving this mansion once again barren. Leaving this place once again dead of any life. A terrible way to live. A way of life that even now as she silently walks side by side with his hand gently within her own, leading him around the outside of the mansion she could never imagine herself living. Just the thought of him being alone for so long inside of this place plays with her heartstrings.

" I'm sorry about Alfred."

Alfred Pennyworth. Bruce's long time butler. A man that she herself respected. Not just because he wasn't afraid to share his opinion. No because of his dedication. Because of the way he had sworn to the late Waynes that he would take care of their only son no matter what. And he had done just that to his last breath. MacGregor's Syndrome. A rare disease. So rare that only a few cases of it have ever been reported. One being Nora Fries. A disease that attacks the lungs making it incredibly painful to breathe. A disease that with his health history and age left him little to no chance of overcoming it. A terrible way for such a great man to go.

Without glancing in her direction with a subtle nod Bruce feels his hand being gently squeezed not catching the brief look of concern being directed his way.

" He died peacefully. It was the best we could have hoped for."

And he was right. It was better than what he could have hoped for. That The Batfamily could have hoped for. Despite catching the symptoms early there was nothing that could be done except give him the support and comfort that he would need in his time of need. He could still remember it like it was yesterday. Despite still being in his last years as Batman he could still remember how helpless he had felt. The proclaimed world's greatest detective. A man that has defied against the odds could not beat one thing. Could not solve the answer to one problem. Time. He couldn't beat it. Nobody can and it had been Alfred's time to go despite everyone's wishes.

Nodding her head turning her head back forward manoeuvring him down a small dirt path leading him after Ace down towards the shores below suddenly feeling as though he is staring in her direction glancing back over towards Bruce as she sees him looking down towards their joined hands as though trying to piece the puzzle of their matching scars letting out a sigh without letting go of his hand Diana comes to a stop and brings herself to face him. The moment of truth. A moment she has thought about for so long. Has thought about how she would break everything to him. But despite all of her planning the moment she had gotten here. The moment she had seen his face all that planning had gone out the window.

" Before I can answer the question that is on your mind you must answer one for me. Answer it for us."

A statement that she can see have instant results as his eyes go wide. Us. Such a word that could always describe them in secret. They may have never been an item officially. At least not in front of others but a selfish part of her thought otherwise. They were always an item in her mind. Since the moment they met in The Justice League there had been instant chemistry between them. Though their personalities differed from each other one thing was shared in common between them. Their sense of justice. This overwhelming need to ensure everyone no matter the issue would have their justice. Perhaps that was the reason why she fell for him so hard? She has often thought about this over the years. Over the long years back home on Themyscira. When it happened she was still unsure but one thing still remains the same. Despite the years apart from each other that feeling still remains and from what she has seen. From the look in his eyes whenever she has caught him looking at her that feeling remains mutual.

" Have you ever looked back at things only to find them blank like a piece of the puzzle is missing?"

Looking her way with nothing but confusion invading his mind just as he opens his mouth Bruce is quickly silenced when Diana brings her index finger up and presses it against his lips. But an retort he might have had disappears when he sees the sad smile coming across her face. A look he has never seen before making his confusion deepen especially when she shakes her head sadly at him.

" I know you. I know you better than anyone. I know how truly stubborn you can be but please answer this one thing for me. I want you to think. Really think about this. When you think back doesn't it seem at times some events have been glossed over? Even erased as though they never truly existed in the first place?"

A rather bizarre question to be asked but a question he knew he would have to think about from the look in her eyes. This pleading look to do as she asks. This look he has received a few times before and his response to this look is just like it has always been. To look away from her and towards the shores and ponder her words as she stands silently staring at him waiting for his response. Shores he has often found himself staring at remembering how things had been long ago.

Remembering everything. Remembering every little detail about his parent's death. How he felt at that moment. How empty he had felt when he had seen them not moving on the ground. How at that moment he started to see the world in a different light. A moment that truly defied him and helped mold the idea of The Batman in his head. An idea that wouldn't become real until many years later after returning back home to Gotham City from his years long absence. Didn't become real until Talia had broken off their engagement leaving him with no explanation allowing the last roadblock in his way to be cleared away for him to wear the cowl. Such a thought that suddenly makes Bruce pause mid thought with an even more confused look across his face. A look that doesn't go unnoticed.

Wait? That's not right.

He knew that wasn't right. Something deep inside of him was telling him this. His instincts have never failed him and these same exact instincts are screaming at him at the moment. But why he wasn't sure. This frustration that is briefly seen across his face before it is schooled into a blank look but she had seen it. Diana had seen it and can't help but look at him with concern. Such concern that goes unnoticed as Bruce is lost in his thoughts continuing to remember back to the days of old. Remembering the defining moment in one Dick Grayson's life. Remembering watching The Flying Graysons take the stage their one last time before falling to their deaths. Remembering how that one moment had caused Dick to fight side by side with Batman as Robin. The dynamic duo that would become a trio when Barbara Gordon would soon join them as Batgirl. A trio that took center stage fighting against the worst that Gotham City had to offer. A trio that would be joined by an emerging Talia from his past to face off against The Joker. To face off against Bane.

Stopping once again in mid thought, unable to hide the clear frustration on his face shaking his head slightly before he can dig deeper into his thoughts a hand gently coming down on his cheek snaps him out of his thoughts as he feels his face being turned to look into Diana's concerned eyes.

" Do you understand now? Things are not the way they seem. I swore to never speak a word of this to you. We all did fearing what would happen if we spoke the words but I can no longer sit idly by with the guilt still burning deep inside me."

Feeling her hand suddenly leaving his cheek immediately missing her warmth in silence Bruce watches Diana take a couple of steps away from him towards the shores.

" It happened one night when you went missing on a patrol. No one was able to get in contact with you. Not Barbara. Not Tim. Not even Dick. They searched the whole city for you. Fearing the worst they contacted me knowing our history together but I couldn't find you. The trail had run cold. I questioned everybody, I could find. All the inmates of Arkham. Every thug, I could get my hands on. It took me weeks before I could find a clue to your whereabouts. There had been a sighting of an unknown figure in the city. Someone that didn't want to be seen. If Barbara and Tim hadn't been trading off surveillance of the feeds of The Batcomputer chances are we wouldn't have gotten to you in time."

Paying a glance over her shoulder seeing Bruce rooted to his spot with nothing but confusion taking a deep breath steering herself for what she knew his reaction would be Diana turns her head back forward to look out into the horizon.

" You were being held underground in the sewers under heavy guard. Member of The League of Assassins. She….she did something to you. When we fought our way through we found you strapped to some sort of machine in a comatose state. A device i've never seen before but knew what it was made for."

Hesitating to reveal the new part taking a chance to look at his face seeing a mixture of shock and confusion that just resolves her issue taking a deep breath Diana looks Bruce in his confused eyes.

" I don't know how but somehow she fractured your mind. She took old memories and implanted them with new ones designed to achieve her ultimate goals."

Such information that she can see having a clear effect on him. The disbelief in his eyes. The shock across his face truly believing what she is saying isn't possible but he would be wrong. She had lived it. They had lived it. Eyes that after a few seconds she can no longer look into and instead decides to focus on the ground below.

" We tried everything we could think of to restore your mind. I called in favors from all my contacts in The Justice League. I researched everything I could think of looking for any kind of solution but only one solution could be found. One closer to home."

Turning fully away from him with Bruce watching her silently Diana makes her way across the path and comes to stand on the shores as nothing but the sound of the ocean hitting the sand is heard. A calming sound that for a few seconds eases her deep inside before she whispers out so quietly Bruce has to strain his ears to hear.

" There was a ritual. An ancient amazonian ritual. One in which hadn't been done in centuries. Amazing enough it had been my mother to suggest such a ritual. The requirements and preparations were easy enough to achieve but the sacrifice…."

Hearing her voice starting to crack silently making his way over towards her reaching out gently Bruce lays his free hand down on her shoulder causing Diana to take a shaky breath. A sound that makes his eyes widen as he can feel the tension underneath his palm.

" Diana?"

" It had been great. Far greater than i had ever imagined."

Barely processing the last statement moving his hand up from her shoulder towards her face gently as he turns her head to look at him instantly Bruce's eyes go wide as saucers when he finds tears silently trickling down Diana's face. This sight that plays with his heartstrings. Makes his heart ache as his hand comes up to mimic an action she has done for him so many times before. To come up and lay gently down on her cheek causing her eyes to shut and for him to feel her lean into his touch.

" I was able to restore fragments of your mind but not all of it. For the cost of saving your life your precious moments….our precious moments were the price that needed to be paid."

Unaware of his eyes going slightly wide from the remark keeping her eyes closed reaching up Diana lays a hand down on top of his own pinning his hand in place on her cheek.

" Diana? I…."

" It's okay. You didn't know but it's time that a wrong is righted. We've already lost so much time together and i'm not willing to waste a second more."

Opening her eyes seeing slight confusion within his own maneuvering her hand so that she can interlock their fingers together a pleading look can be seen forming in her eyes.

" There is still much for me to explain but please? Please come with me back to Themyscira. Please come home with me. I need you there. We need you there."
