A week had past since Alex had her eyes opened to the struggles of being an alien and Alex was growing impatient with the way the aliens were being treated. She'd gone through and met several of them, they each had a unique story for how they survived whatever struggle they went through. Kara Zor-El she learned was a Kryptonian princess. While the Martian she now new as J'onn J'ones was known as the manhunter because he worked with the Martian police for to prosecute criminals the same way they did on earth. Overall she had met over a hundred aliens in that time, she now understood Hank Henshaw had to be stopped and the hundreds of innocent aliens their government was holding prisoner.
It was a bright Monday morning when Alex got to the DEO facility, she knew Hank was out and her plan was to begin taping her conversations with J'onn Kara and the other aliens, she was prepared to begin with a meeting between her and the Kryptonian. First things first she lowered the shield "There's no tracking when it's been lowered, I figured this was better meant for a face to face meeting." She explained as ." She explained as the Kryptonian seemed intrigued by what the woman was doing "The facility is empty, cameras changing tapes, come on we can go for a walk." She explained as the alien climbed to her feet happily following her out.
They left the containment system so Kara could have a look around, after a minute of walking they stopped at a large door with a keypad "What's this?" She asked curiously half hoping it was what she thought it to be.
Alex's smile widened as she reached out putting her palm on the pad "This, is what our sun feels like." She commented as the door opened revealing the almost blinding light that Kara hadn't experienced in nearly a decade. She was hesitant when she crossed the doorway, the light almost blinding her for a second before she adjusted "this is where you have a choice, like I said I can convince them that you escaped but you won't have the same freedom your cousin does, you'll be a fugitive chased to the ends of the earth by our agency. I won't stop you if you want to leave, but I still believe I can convince our government you and others aren't threats, maybe get you citizenship so this can be your new home. You can carve out a life for yourself here, how's that sound?" She asked curiously watching as the girl thought her statement over for a second.
Kara seemed conflicted, after this trip into the sunlight she never wished to return to her cell, but the strange human was right, if she stayed she may have a home after all. For that reason and that reason only she nodded "I understand, Alex, if you truly think I can have a life here then I trust you as long as Kal-El does." She explained showing the highest amount of faith she'd shown since Alex had met her.
Alex returned the nod and spoke clearly into the tape recorder "First recorded conversation with prisoner 4265, also known as Kara Zor-El of krypton, cousin to superman. So Kara, would you please tell me about your home world?" She asked curiously as she sat cross legged on the ground with Kara repeating the motion.
Kara to her credit had been easygoing so far with the human, but the recorder made her slightly nervous. She'd not seen one and wasn't sure exactly what it's purpose was, Alex had explained how she was being recorded so the governor could understand she wasn't a threat to earth. With heavy hesitation she spoke in response to Alex's question "Certainly, agent Danvers, I hail from the planet krypton as you know, we were a peaceful people. We had the power to defend ourselves but rarely had to use it. Our capital city Argo city was where my cousin Kal-El and I were born. I was sent away when I was 12 while he was sent away as a baby. Argo city was a big spacious city where the buildings reached the sky. There was little crime, poverty was something that just didn't exist. We had advancements in technology that America would consider witchcraft." She finished her explanation taking a breath as Alex processed what she had to say and began to ask her next question.
Alex smiled reassuringly in response to her statement, for some reason she really had taken a liking to the two aliens she'd spent the most time with, Kara was a lot of fun to be around(much more fun than any of her colleagues) and J'onn was wise like her father. With that in mind her next question was going to be interesting for her own knowledge "And if I may ask, how many languages do you speak? I've always been curious about how some aliens tend to know English already." She explained the reason behind her question as Kara seemed to be really wracking her brain on this.
She had not really counted before, but Kara was fluent in many different languages spread across the galaxy. She simply gave a shrug "I've never counted before and I don't see myself ever counting them, it's a lot though, as for why we know English it's because many races send ambassadors to other planets to learn of their culture, for example krypton had an entire division specifically intended for this type of stuff. We have copies of books which I know I studied a lot as a kid, overall we spent a lot of our time learning from other races. Although we've never seen any movie tv show or anything of that matter, the ones that were brought back wouldn't work with our equipment." She explained honestly as she sat cross legged, the idea of a Kryptonian trying to figure out a DVD player made Alex laugh inwardly.
Alex began to ask her next question when her phone buzzed, shutting off the recorder she jumped up "Crap, we have to get you back, my phone just alerted me of an escaped alien." She saw the hurt in the girls eyes momentarily before she spoke "Not you, if it were you I would delete it and continue. This is something serious and we have to get back inside." She explained as Kara got up with her and the pair moved inside. Just when they turned the corner Alex suddenly doubled over in pain "u-ugh! What's happening! It feels like a thousand knives are stabbing at my brain!" She cried out as another alien stood down the hall from them, he was dark pink with a bright glowing pink crystal in the middle of his forehead 'N-no… It's Jemm, but who let him out…' Alex thought for herself as she kicked the door shut knowing it would keep him from effecting Kara who had stopped behind Alex.
Jemm was a smart creature, he knew the value of his freedom above all else and when a strange man offered it to him he was ready to kill the other pathetic human for him "Is this her?" He asked curiously as the agent in question turned the corner wearing a power dampener around his forehead protecting his brain from Jemm's psychic attack.
"One of them. I believe you owe me the other one too Jemm." The voice of Henshaw came everywhere so closer as he bent down before Alex looking both smug and hurt "Oh Alex, you had so much potential, I thought you to be my successor one day. What have I always said? Fraternizing with these creatures is strictly against our policy and is just plain wrong. But now you let one out? I'm afraid the punishment for treason is steep. You see struggling isn't going to do anything, right now Jemm is using psychic waves to attack your brain, soon you won't know what's up and what's down." He spoke in a calm collected fashion as Jemm seemed annoyed by his first statement but held his tongue. "Now I know what you're thinking, you think I'm a murderer, getting ready to kill a fellow agent, but I hope you'll come to understand this is for the best, you see making friends with them is a gateway to a life not worth living so I'm simply closing that gate. And no I won't go down for this, you see the equipment of Jemm's cell failed, probably sabotaged by you, and he escaped turning on you and your new friends killing you in the process before escaping off world. Now for the witnesses, Jemm please go find her so we don't have anything else to worry about today." He instructed as the alien finally turned hostile towards Henshaw.
He turned towards the director as Alex felt his grip loosen off of her and tighten on him, suddenly Henshaw was the one doubled in pain "I don't take orders from you, pathetic human, I didn't before and I still don't. Did you really think that device would work against a divine being such as I? I'll use my gifts on whoever I choose." He explained as suddenly the grip on both Hank and Alex was released as Jemm was sent flying back across the hallway, the culprit? The foot of an angry Kryptonian. Jemm rose to his feet "They've been nothing but a nuisance to you, yet you protect them? The rumors are true, your race is weak minded and you are no exception." He sneered as he stepped up towards her.
Kara stood in front of Alex and Hank making sure they were shielded "Nobody has to die today, but if you disrespect my homeland again I'm more than happy to knock you around a bit." She commented as it became noticeable that Kara was floating, it seemed she was beginning to get the hand of her powers, as soon as her feet touched the ground she used it as momentum to launch herself at the psychic, just looking at him she assessed that he wasn't quick on his feet, at least not to the level the Kryptonian was. But to her shock her own head began throbbing much like how Alex and Hank's had making her stop in her tracks.
The Son of Saturn stood over her now marveling in his own work, he'd brought a powerful Kryptonian to her knees, the fear mixed with pain in her eyes made him smirk "Foolish girl, challenging me was not sma-" his statement was cut off when he was suddenly hit with an uppercut from the Kryptonian.
Kara rose to her feet watching as the man dropped back "Don't get cocky, my race isn't known for its fighting prowess, but that doesn't mean I can't fight." She explained in a firm tone of voice as she stayed back just a bit wondering why his psychic attack stopped affecting her, the woman's answer came when Jemm suddenly fell flat on his face, looking up she saw Alex had slipped through a hallway leading to where the cells were, once there she released J'onn who Kara guessed was blocking Jemm's psychic waves. Kara turned back noting Hank still hadn't gotten up, walking across the hallway she extended a hand "Get up director, we're not going to hurt you." She promised as he begrudgingly rose up scuffing at the offer of help from the Kryptonian.
Before Henshaw could berate her Alex stepped up showing confidence "Listen, they don't belong here. Director setting aside the fact you just tried to kill me I want to help you keep living." She paused at his confusion "Her cousin, you know, the one who wears a cape? He knows she's here. If he were to find out what you've been doing with her I promise you'd not enjoy whatever emotional response he had." He seemed to be contemplating what she'd said, Hank was far and away against aliens, he hated Superman with all his being but he knew the world loved Superman while most didn't know he existed "As for J'onn, he just saved your life while he didn't have to. Not all aliens are bad Director." She explained as Hank seemed to actually be contemplating what she had to say.
Hank seemed to be deep in thought as he turned back to Kara "You look like us, and your cousin has been doing some good I suppose so I think I can set aside my feelings towards aliens and let you go." He explained as Kara seemed to be pretty upbeat before he turned to J'onn "As for you, you did save my life with that alien psychic trick. But there's just no way I can justify releasing you." He paused noting the anger on everyone except the Martian's face "Listen, look at him? That won't exactly blend in and right now I'm not the only one who generally can't stand aliens. So for the time being you'll remain here but I'll see to it the accommodations are more adequate. That's the best I can do." He explained honestly as J'onn seemed to be content with that but Alex certainly was not.
Alex was fuming with anger, he shouldn't be locked away because there are people that don't like him for how he looks and Alex wanted to make sure that wouldn't be happening to him. She spoke clear and firm "Find a way to let him go or I'm speaking with Director Hanaway about how you treat these beings." She explained firmly as the man seemed slightly impressed with her attitude.
He shook his head lightly "Take him, but just know agent Danvers I don't fold easily, and I certainly don't change easily. Aliens will always be outsiders and whether there are a few good ones or not my job is to capture them and that's what I'll do. If I catch ether of you doing anything, then saving my life won't save yours." He promised as he blew them off aand began dragging Jemm back to his cell.
Kara was the first to speak when they were left alone "So… what now? We're free? Now what do we do?" She asked curiously as Alex put an arm around her shoulders, the smile on the woman's face made it seem like she had some ideas.
Meanwhile, miles away in a darkened room on an equally darkened space ship a woman in straight black spandex and with brown hair seemed to be lost in thought when the automatic doors opened "It appears she's been released general, the time is almost upon us." The young lady explained as the woman in black shooed her away still lost in thought.
Finally she stood up "The time is coming Kara, soon you and I will help this race avoid the same disaster that befell our home. Together we will save humanity." She spoke mostly to herself as the young Kryptonian's picture showed on the computer in front of her.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this! I really like this story and I think it gives me a chance to be creative and change some stuff about the show and certain characters! If you have any feedback please review I would be ecstatic to hear from you!
