Mitchie was sent home a week after she woke up. Her parents didn't allow anyone to visit her till she was home. They didn't want word to go out that their daughter had an overdose. Connie and Steve were very private and liked to keep this 'perfect' image to their name. Mitchie hated how her parents made her feel imperfect when she made the smallest mistakes. That's why she learned to be the best of the best. And if she wasn't, she made it a game to become it.

Life had a funny way giving Mitchie an inch but she expected a mile. She sighed as the car ride was tense, she wasn't allowed her parents sight. She had to go back to school in a few days. She was to report to every teacher at the beginning of the class and end, they had to sign a paper stating she attended the class. Mitchie tried to argue that they were being a bit excessive. But until she wanted them not to press charges, she had to oblige their ridiculous rules.

Shane paced the coffee shop, something told him that she was going to show up today. He was in the back taking inventory to stay busy, Nate was in the front training the new girl Ella.

Shane felt his phone vibrate on his pant leg, he dropped the clipboard on the box and pulled it out. He sighed in frustration.

"Formal is this weekend. Are we going together or not? -n"

Shane's thumbs quickly responded with a cold 'no.'

Natalia heard from Eric that Shane was going to ask her to formal and was on Shane's case about her proposal. Shane dodged her, trying to visit Mitchie but her parents were not completely sold on the idea of him. Especially since Mitchie wasn't letting them in about who she bought the drugs from.

Shane checked his phone one more time, he had twenty minutes before they closed. He started to lose hope. Maybe his gut feeling wasn't right this time. He sighed as he heard Nate show Ella how to clock out on the system and that she was done for the day. He heard the bell of the door ring as Shane reached up to grab the large cups off the shelf and coffee beans he had to set up for the morning crew.

"He's in the back." Ella said shyly as Shane rounded the corner.

He had to do a double take to make sure his eyes weren't playing a joke on him. Her hair was one tone, and longer since he last saw her. Her black ripped skinny jeans hugged her legs perfectly. The flannel and jean jacket look was more casual than he was used to seeing her in. Only Mitchie would make converse look dressy.

Shane opened his mouth to talk, he set the things down on the counter and he walked towards the front where she stood.

"Hi." She spoke.

"Hi."

"How are you?" Mitchie asked as his hands intertwined with his.

Shane smelt of coffee and cologne. Her favorite scent.

"How am I? Only you would go through hell and the first time we've seen each other since that day you'd ask how I'm doing." Shane teased.

"Well i can take it back." Mitchie snipped.

"Don't. I've been worried."

"The giant has feelings?" Mitchie teased.

"I'm not made out of iron." Shane blushed.

Mitchie laughed, softly, almost like she was afraid to do so.

"I like your laugh." Shane blurted.

Mitchie rolled her eyes and tried to take her hands back, Shane's hold only got tighter. He was scared of letting her go, he felt like this was a dream.

"Why are you worried?" Mitchie whispered.

"I was worried I wasn't going to see you again. And the fact that we close in ten minutes, I really have to get things done. Are you going to be around when I get off?" Shane said as he pulled Mitchie towards him.

She bit her lip as she fell onto him softly, shaking her head slowly, "I had to convince my parents to let me come here on my own. They compromised and are waiting outside in their car."

Mitchie pointed towards the street with her head, where Shane noticed high beams shining into the shop. He coughed as he stepped away from her. Mitchie chuckled as she pulled him back into her as she stood on her tiptoes.

Her lips brushed against, as she moved to plant a kiss to his cheek, "it'll get better."

Shane wondered what she meant by that. He felt the cold air hit his warm chest, his eyes followed her till she hopped into her parents car. She had rolled the window down and smiled at him. Shane waved back.

"Earth to Shane." Nate said coming in front of him, "you still have a job."

Shane chuckled as he threw a dirty towel at Nate. They closed up and were locking up twenty minutes later.

"Hungry?" Shane asked his brother as they walked towards the public parking lot. Shane was running late and someone had parked in his usual spot.

"I could always eat." Nate shrugged as he jumped into the passenger seat.

"Good cause I need advice." Shane smirked as he started the truck. He drove towards the best drive thru burger joint.

"Aw man, i hate this. You know i'm not good at this shit." Nate groaned.

"Well you're smarter than i am. And your relationships actually last longer than a few months." shane stated.

They ordered their food and picked it up at the second window. They gave them carton trays so they could eat in their car without creating a total mess.

"Don't you think you should, i don't know, talk to one of your best buddies about these things? Not your younger brother."

"You know Mitchie isn't a subject you want to talk to with anyone. Especially people who go to school with us. If they knew what could happen between us, the whole school would talk again. And who knows what she'd be capable of doing this time around." Shane shook his head as he took his last couple of bites.

Nate sighed as he took a big gulp of his drink.

"Okay so what's the problem?"

"We kissed a week ago. She hasn't really texted me back even though I've texted her a few times. I don't know if her parents have her completely under supervision or if she's just stringing me along."

Nate chuckled, "you sound really pathetic right now. Let me just soak this moment up."

Shane glared.

Nate put his hands up in defense, "I've been Mr. Smooth talker's brother for as long as I can remember. It's nice to hear you're like everyone else."

Shane laughed sarcastically, "stop fucking around or you'll be walking home."

"It is a nice night out."

"Fuck off!" Shane jokingly, but not really, punched Nate's shoulder.

"Fine! Fine. Ruin all the fun."

Nate looked over to his brother and saw him tugging on his hair and he instantly knew he was no longer joking about the situation. He knew that Mitchie was something different. He's only seen himself get this worked up about a girl and that girl's name was Natalia.

"She's the real deal huh?"

"I know you've heard this before. But it's different with Mitchie."

"Is it because she's a virgin and that's drawing you more to her?"

Shane stayed quiet.

"Dude! Then I'm definitely not helping you and I'm walking home."

"No! That's not the reason. Mitchie is different from everyone here. She's independent. She's actually funny. She does this thing with her eyes when she's annoyed, they kind of squint like she's trying to blow your head off. It's funny. And the only look she's ever really given me.`` Shane laughed.

"It's also turned my world around when you told me you saw her with Devin. Never did I think a girl like Mitchie would ever need Devin's services."

Nate sighed, "I didn't know who to tell or if I was seeing it correctly. I really wanted to talk to her before I opened my mouth to you. But when she overdosed at work. I needed to tell you. I knew you'd tell her parents."

"I didn't though. It wasn't my story to tell. That's her decision to make. Not mine."

"So her parents don't know who provided the drugs?"

Shane shook his head no.

"Devin's been out of town for a week now."

"Who do you think told him to fuck off? He's back in Nevada with his dad. I don't think he'll be coming back."

"Don't tell me you beat that dude up. And I missed it." Nate jokes.

"No. I actually had a civil conversation with him. He told me he was shocked at the news and that he didn't know his new buyer that well but trusted a buddy who recommended him. He paid his dues and left. I think Devin was more afraid of Mitchie's life than getting caught."

Nate finished his food and wiped his hands clean, "so you didn't give him a parting gift to his face?"

"No. I'm trying to be different. I don't think me beating the shit out of Devin would have helped Mitchie's case of not ratting him out."

Nate sat back amused. This was different from his ex girlfriend.

"Alright alright, enough of the mushy talk."

"Help me."

"Ask her to formal."

"Dude I wasn't planning on going. And I dont think being around all those people is the best decision right now. Plus her parents have her in complete lock down."

Nate slumped back in his seat, racking his brain for some kind of lightbulb to go off. He focused on the light outside the parking lot, it was flickering, kind of like his brain at the moment.

The light flickered on at the same time he came up with an amazing idea.

"I got it." Nate smiled wickedly.
