Chapter One: Wait, What! A Satyr?

Ding!

Perseus' eyes shot open in surprise as the unfamiliar sound popped his bubble of sleep - a very good sleep that wasn't riddled by nightmares or had unfamiliar scenes that included a black-haired girl, 40-foot men, or a council of twelve 20-foot people. Shaking the remnant of sleep from his eyes, Perseus looked in shock at the floating blue words that were slightly serifed.

You have slept in your bed. All HP, SP, MaP, and MnP have been restored, due to sleeping in your bed!

This was quite the shocking start to the day, and Perseus could only say one thing. "Well, I've finally gone insane."

Ding!

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. This is just a new ability granted to you by a bored god that likes to watch the goings of your Earth. Good Luck!

Do you want to do the Tutorial?

Yes/No

Perseus could only see one solution that would enable him to succeed: he tentatively tapped the Yes as he wasn't sure if it was just a hallucination. With a Ding! the bolded words disappeared, and new words appeared.

Greetings, young Gamer. Your destiny at one point was straightforward and clear, but somehow the Fates became clumsy and your path was sent in a different direction. Your life has been pretty boring to watch, so I (A God of Creativity) have decided to let you take control of your own fate. The Fates will try to manipulate you, but I will be content to watch your life go by, pissing off a lot of people in a humorous manner. Now, Sayonara!

'This guy has given me these powers because he was bored watching my life? Well, it can't be worse than what I've already gone through, so let's see what this game has to offer.' Waving his hands over the message, new words appeared.

This is the tutorial. For your general information, say 'Stats,' 'Statistics,' or 'Info.' Shrugging, Perseus complied.

ADHD: Attentive Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - This makes your body constantly ready for a fight. This damages your reputation with teachers, and responsible adults, but improves your dexterity.

Dyslexia: Your brain has been hardwired for [Unknown] due to your father, and it is difficult to read other languages. This damages your reputation with teachers and makes it hard to read and write in English.

[Passive] Controlled Emotions: You tend to control your emotions to hide them from outside sources. Once your limit is met your emotions will overwhelm you…

Feats

Perseus Jackson is the son of Sally Jackson and [Unknown]. He currently lives with his step-father Gabe Ugliano. His life took a major change when his mother died in a car accident, causing him to become cold and distant. He hates Ugliano and wishes to get away from him at some point. He is age 12 and born on August 18.

He doesn't know anything about his heritage from his father, nor abilities.

Looking at the bizarrely accurate information he shook his head. Looking at the words that didn't have anything underneath Perseus clearly spoke, "Skills."

Skills - These are abilities that can be done by any mundane person. They can be leveled up with Skill Discs or by pure hard work.

Reading and Writing: General - Tartarian (-10 Understanding [with English]), Novice (5 Speed)

Swimming - Intermediate Novice (10)

Fighting - Novice (5)

Music - Tartarian (-5)

Perception - Novice (7)

Lying - Abysmal (-1)

Stealth - Wimp (3)

Reading and Writing: Ancient Greek - Godlike (MAX)

Looking at both of his skills and his stats, Perseus found that they all sucked - except for reading/writing in Ancient Greek, for some reason - but he was merely a level 1, anyway. Looking at his skills though - he didn't realize that he had so little. Hell, he didn't even have any school subjects that could be applied - while he could read college-level books there were still a lot of things that went over his head. Plus, it was only books about water subjects that he could read - the others would require a very large dictionary to even begin to comprehend. 'Well, that God was right - I'm basically a wimp.'

Ha Ha Ha! Told you so!

'Piss off!' He closed his eyes to try to calm himself down, but while trying to remove his excess anger by growling at the intangible entity that seemed to like watching his life, a loud Ding! only made his day worse. Opening his eyes Perseus looked at the new message.

Quest Alert! Don't Be Late, You Knucklehead!

'Arghh! That arsehole really needs to stop with all of these things - why can't he just pause the world or whatever? Stupid god that isn't very godlike. I'll have to delay my queries about this game, like what are MnP, SP, AP, or MaP, until later.'

Ding!

You have learned the skill Smartass (Lv 1). This skill allows you a chance to piss off your target. Due to your status as an [unknown], [Unknown target species] have a higher chance of going into a Raging Spirit

5 % chance of making adults angry (-10 relation with adult)

10 % chance of making teenagers furious (-5 relation with teenagers)

12.5 % chance of making [unknown] go into a Raging Spirit

'Not now! I have to get to class!'

Possible End of World

Yes/No

'Well, that doesn't sound too bad.' Perseus quickly packed all of his school supplies into his bag after pressing the floating Yes and ran out of his dorm, scuffing his shoes on the shining floors of Yancy Academy. As an afterthought, he muttered 'Other than the possible end of the world. Seriously, how would being late for a class create that scenario? It's not like Mrs. Dodds is a flying bat creature… On the other hand, she is somewhat inhuman in torturing me and Grover, so maybe that isn't very far off."

Ding!

'Again? At least it appears that nobody else can hear or see it. Now, all I need to do is make sure that nobody thinks that I'm insane, waving my arms around like a lunatic.' That was true - none of the other students that were also attempting to be on time didn't see the floating, blue, cartoonish box with words.

Quest Alert! Discover What Mrs. Dodds is!

Is Mrs. Dodds human, or not? She delights in torturing young children especially you with excess homework and punishment for no good reason. Who knows if she's actually human? Grover and you have joked many times about her supposed humanity. You may even discover more facts about yourself.

'That's a lot of failures - pretty melodramatic. Hey, you god of Creativity! Are you sure that you aren't the God of Amateur Dramatics, because this seems like a lot of pretty dramatic endings for such a simple quest. It only gives 15 XP anyways!' Shaking his head in amusement, Perseus turned the corner where was stalking the entrance to his next class - Mr. Brunner's Latin. Cursing, Perseus slowed down until he was slowly sauntering through the door.

As he walked into the classroom (Ding!), Mrs. Dodds whispered harshly in his ear, "I'm watching you, godling." That last bit was spat out so furiously that he almost couldn't understand it. Why did she call him godling? And why did her eyes briefly shine a murderous red? Alright, definitely probably not human.

Or sane.

Quest Completed:

Reward: 5 XP and +5 Reputation with teachers (except Mrs. Dodds)

Mr. Brunner's class, like always, was one of the more intense classes, mostly due to the occasions when he walked in and showed off his copper (perhaps bronze?) sword and shield, or the times when he handed out a pop quiz in which all the answers were letter B. Despite how interesting the class was normally, Perseus couldn't focus due to the implications of the presence of non-humans. In an attempt to find other hints about other possible non-humans he stared intently at Mr. Brunner, thinking that there was no way that he could be anything other than human…

'Huh. This really isn't bad, though the level isn't very high. Well, let's see what you have, Mr. Brunner.'

[Unknown] [Alias: Mr. Brunner]

'Wait, what?! His name isn't even Brunner?!' This revelation shoved Perseus out of his trance hard enough for him to kick the desk, which shook for a bit. The class turned to look at Perseus as his cheeks burned a bright red in embarrassment.

"Ah, Mr. Jackson, since you seem to enjoy this topic. Please, tell us what you know about ancient mythology from this area." That was just the sort of thing that Mr. Brunner would do since he seemed to enjoy choosing Perseus a lot as a volunteer. Because of this tendency of Mr. Brunner to talk about myths, Perseus read up on them.

Talking with a smooth, controlled voice Perseus recovered his bearing, saying, "The mythology of Rome originated from Greek myths, even going as far as to simply rename some gods: one example is Zeus - who was King of the Gods and Olympus - became Jupiter, whereas Apollo's name and roles remained the same. Their myths are different though, as clearly shown by the origins of Rome. In one story, the Prince of Troy after the battles of The Iliad traveled to where Rome is now with Aphrodite's blessing and founded the empire there, whereas another origin was the tales of Romulus and Remus, where they were raised by a wolf and sometime later Romulus killed Remus, created the City of Rome and that was the start of the Roman Empire."

"Well said, Mr. Jackson, well said. Now, let us extrapolate more upon the start of Rome. Ms. Bobofit, would you…"

The day passed by slowly, made all the more so by Perseus' unusual anticipation in learning more about the game that he was apparently the main character of. Finally, the last bell of the day rang, and Perseus walked quickly out of his English class. Outside there was Mrs. Dodds harshly scolding a couple of seventh graders. 'The perfect time to use my Perception skill is now,' he thought as he stared intently at the Math teacher.

You have gotten lucky! You can see two pieces of information she has kept hidden!

[Unknown] [Alias: Mrs. Dodds]

Reputation: -100/100

Info: Mrs. Dodds has been sent by her master to watch over Perseus Jackson, the son of one of his brothers. She believes him to have stolen something and is getting ready to fight him.

'Well, I wasn't expecting that to show up. She's planning on killing me!' A louder Ding! caught his attention, though. This one was lined in a green box, however.

Hint: Your Heritage has roots in ancient places, whose accounts are written in lore.

Well, the hint wasn't good at all, though it seems as though his father's lineage might be mentioned in myths or legends. After arriving in his room, he decided that it was time to figure out what those unusual letters mean. 'Hey, God of Unnecessary Acts of Drama, how do I get help in this game?'

Merely say Help [insert] to find out about what you want to know, young Padawan. Wait, wrong fandom - don't think about it, godling… Damn it!

'Again, with the godling… perhaps a code word? The myths are fake, that's why they're called myths. Other than the god who gave me these powers... Anyways, time to figure out what those letters mean. Don't think about pantheons.' "Help Points."

HP: Health Points: This shows your health. Current critical status is 10% of Total HP

SP: Stamina Points. These show how far you can exert yourself

MaP: Magic Points. This shows how much mana you have… don't ask why it's called Magic Points rather than Mana Points.

MnP: Mental Points. This shows how far your mind can be exerted.

EP: Endurance Points: This shows how much can be taken before your health declines.

XP: Experience Points: This is a means of increasing your stats. Every level you get 5 Stat. Points, every 2 levels you get 1 Skill Point, every 5 levels you get an Ability Point, and at levels 15, 45, 50, 75, 100 you get a Feat.

Perseus was now really shocked at what he could do - though he still didn't know what 'Abilities' or 'Feats' were. After looking back at his stat page, he realized that he was even worse than what he thought he was before. After breaking himself from the shock, he stated firmly, "Help Abilities and Help Feats."

Due to your lack of knowledge of your heritage, you are unable to know what Abilities are.

Due to your lack of knowledge of your heritage and low level, you are unable to know what Feats are. Please say "Help Feats" when your level is a 15.

The time on his alarm clock on the desk beside his bed caught his attention, and he realized that dinnertime (in which everyone had to be there) was going to be in a few minutes.

Walking back to his dorm in the dreary, grey halls of Yancy there was a small figure darting away, subtly drawing Perseus' attention. The thing that caught his attention was that the figure was his friend Grover, who only moved fast when enchiladas were on the lunch menu, and otherwise used crutches to get around. The dark-skinned boy was the source of many teasings because of his disability, and Perseus (while having a far darker history than most, if not all the students at Yancy had combined) liked the kid and taught him how to be almost invisible to the eyes of the tormentors. Sure, it may mean that others get targeted, but Perseus felt it better than some kid that he didn't know than someone he did know.

It was the fact that Grover used the techniques that Perseus taught him that caught his attention, mostly because he didn't know why he would risk staying out. A Ding! caused his attention to be diverted.

End of Western Civilization

The start of the Age of Bad Music (The Horror!)

Yes/No

'What? The Age of Bad Music? Now I know that he's being far too sensitive.' Dismissing the threats of the Apocalypse and Bad Music, Perseus used his own talents to follow Grover unobtrusively. He watched as Grover went into Mr. Brunner's classroom, and put his ear against the door. Because the school went cheap and used hollow core doors instead of the denser solid doors, Perseus could still hear what the conversation was about.

Grover's somewhat annoying voice was complaining to Mr. Brunner when Perseus put his ear against it. "Chiron, I don't know what to do! It's getting so hard to not cover in front of Perseus! His smell is so strong…"

Mr. Brunner spoke gravely, "I know. His aura is that of a soul that has faced many difficulties, but the power…. He is an extremely powerful demigod, and that is a cause for concern. He might even be another child of the Big Three. The King of Olympus broke his law 17 years ago, and you know especially what the Lord of the Dead did against his progeny. Now, one of his servants is in the school…"

"Chiron, do you know who the Kindly One is impersonating?" 'Chiron?'

"No, young satyr." 'Wait, what? Satyr?!' "I have my suspicions, though… Now though is the time for bed. You don't want Perseus knowing…" The young man in question figured that was about the time that he should be leaving, but the door opened suddenly. Perseus pressed himself against the opposite wall, wishing to become a part of the shadows intently. He felt a drain of something but didn't move even though it was uncomfortable. Grover and Mr. Brunner stepped out of the classroom, and as they went to their separate dormitories a pen fell out of the latter's pocket right in front of Perseus. A few Dings! had sounded, but Perseus didn't want to look at them until he was in private.

When the two were out of sight Perseus ran to his dorm that he shared with Grover - grabbing the pen first - making sure to use a little-known path that certainly wouldn't get him seen and would get him there much faster. Panting heavily, Perseus grabbed his nightclothes and went into the bathroom. While he was in there he splashed a bit of water on his face and felt the power that he had felt left him when the shadows somehow enveloped his return in a greater quantity. Frowning slightly Perseus said "Stats," and looked in shock at what they were now.

Heritage: You have a godlike lineage

Bombarded with the messages Perseus looked at them one at a time, ending with the quest rewards. Reading the heritage it was very easy to see exactly what/who was his heritage: a god/goddess with connections to the sea. According to Mr. Brunner, his father may even be the Lord of the Sea himself - Poseidon. With the apparent identity of Mr. Brunner, and the fact that Grover is a satyr - both of whom only appear in one mythology - he could only assume that the Greek Pantheon was still around. Which begged the question about the other pantheons, but he put that aside for another date.

He didn't have any problems with higher beings - he got these 'Gamer Powers' from an 'Elder God,' whatever that was. No, it was that there was an entire, living mythology in the modern world that somehow didn't know about it. There was the snake that he'd killed in his preschool, but his… mother… pulled him out right after he'd killed it. Plus, if Mr. Brunner was Chiron, then he was 'The Immortal Trainer of Heroes,' at least from what he could remember from the myths. That meant that there were more demigods, more heroes.

More people like him.

Except for the whole 'Semi-human Gamer' thing that Perseus had going for him.

(A/N) Hey again. Just wanted to let you know that this is my first published story, so please leave constructive criticism in the reviews!

As of this moment there are no romantic pairings - if there will be one. If there is, then it certainly wouldn't be with one of the gods - sorry, but from what I've seen in fanfics the gods are typically too childish. I also don't especially like the Percabeth pairing. Not that I have issues with either of them, just that they don't exactly fit together in my mind. On one hand, you have the studious, calculating, and experienced Annabeth; the other has the extremely active, brash, and talented Percy. They are pretty close to being opposites, and I think that Annabeth wouldn't fare too well with a rival. She seems to like stroking her ego, something canon Percy was all too willing to do - this Perseus won't be doing that and will be fairly critical.

So please review, and put up some pairings! Thanks again to Ronova150!
