A/N:
This is a short drabble I was planning to use in another story, but it eventually didn't work out. On the other hand, I also don't want this to go to waste, so here I am posting it as it is.
I know it's short, but I hope it's still sweet!
For context, Hiccup and Toothless are walking down the longest stairs on Berk until they have an accident, lol. I don't even know if Berk has stairs these long, but just imagine that part, okay!

Stoick had called Hiccup to come help him out with some traders at the docks. Hiccup had already guessed that his dad didn't really need his help at all, Stoick was the perfect at doing what he does best alone after all. But knowing his father, he probably wanted to take his chances to show his son how a chief would handle trading now that the foreigners were actually here. Since Hiccup was going to take over that role in the future anyways, he had to gain some experience first.
But the heir didn't care whatever reason his father had, he was going to assist him either way.
So, after leaving the acedemy to the rest of the Riders, Hiccup and Toothless eventually arrived at the outer side of the village where the stairs to the very bottom end of the island began.
The two sighed, well... Hiccup was the one sighing and Toothless snorting. These stairs were a looong trip to the docks. But, hey, they both could use a little workout. Sure, they could fly their way there and arrive within a minute or less, but were they really going to lose their bet against Snotlout? The bet that meant they weren't allowed to fly for a whole week anymore?
Of course not! Hiccup was determined to win, 'cause it would mean the loser, in this case Snotlout, had to go on cleaning dragon dung duty for an entire week. And, oh boy, did Hiccup want to see that muttonhead suffer.
So, stairs it was...
Said stairs were circled around the base of their island, starting up at the right side, ending down at the left. In other words; very long. But obviously, there were pillars holding them up and an amazing view to encourage the daily viking to keep on walking.
Beginning to walk down they did in silence, a peaceful silence. Hiccup admired the view of the bright blue-ish sky and the feeling of the cold wind brushing his bangs in various directions away from his eyes. Revealing his forehead.
Toothless looked at the sky too, but rather focussing on the dragon flying in said sky. There was a purple tinted Deadly Nadder doing all sorts of tricks in the air, chirping happily as she did so. She must feel very comfortable and free. Toothless wailed softly, his big green eyes dilated immediately as he watched the Nadder enjoy the sky.
"Hmm?" His friend's voice sounded suspicious. "You want to go flying, bud, don't you?" Hiccup glanced back at his buddy. Toothless turned his head around to him and gave him an unamused scoff as if to say 'duhh, obviously'.
"Yeah-yeah, me too. Just two more days left and we'll win the bet, bud." Hiccup patted his scaly head softly.
Toothless' pupils narrowed slightly, ignoring the comforting gesture. He clearly didn't like anything that was related to the bet his best friend and Snotlout had. Hiccup could understand that fully. "But once we win, I promise you, we'll go flying the entire day." He confirmed with a confident smirk planted on his face. This relaxed Toothless, a lot in fact. Knowing they were going to be flying soon made him excited, despite the fact that he had to wait two more days.
Sensing the mood drifting off, Toothless thought about spicing up their journey to the docks since it was already getting so boring. A gummy grin formed on the dragon as he had formed his simple plan in his mind. Slowly, he began fasting his pace, looking identical to a dog running down the stairs for lunch.
Which Toothless was, basically.
Hiccup didn't bother and walked faster too, he had guessed Toothless was growing bored over their earlier slow pace. But once the boy noticed the dragon smirking triumphantly at him as he was in the lead in their nonexistent race, Hiccup couldn't stop but feel outplayed.
"Oh, you're on!" He laughed, trying to catch up with the Night Fury.
They began sprinting faster and faster, to the point they were actually running down the unstable stairs. It had been a while since they had ran like this, mostly because they always had to run away from danger. But this time was different, they were running because they wanted to do so, that made it extra fun. Skipping many steps on their way, huffing and puffing, they both laughed and cheered in their own human and dragon way.
"Hyah! Whoo-hoo!"
Hiccup had more difficulty with balancing himself than Toothless did. But he still managed to ignore his gut telling him to stop before something would go horribly wrong. He just couldn't resist feeling the fresh air, watching the sun shining, and most definitely laughing at his dragon friend whom stuck his splitted tongue out at him. "This is amaziiing!" Hiccup cheered, watching his steps and simultaneously looking excited at the all well nearing end of the stairs.
Finally, they weren't running for nothing after all.
They'd probably be exhausted by the time they would reach the docks, but who cares. At this moment, the two buddies were free to do whatever they wanted. Well... except for flying, that would break the bet Hiccup was trying to win.
Toothless was obviously also having fun, and he chose to show it. The familiar high pitching sound of a Night Fury getting ready to fire got Hiccup's attention back to his buddy. Toothless shot a purple blast into the sky that echoed around them. The boy was a bit confused at first, yet he cheered nonetheless. Another blast filled the air, this one a bit more blue, meaning it was stronger. The dragon and boy shrugged when the wave of air hit them both.
"Okayy!" Hiccup grimaced slightly. "I think that one was a bit too hard, bud—"
But another high pitch sound interrupted him. A light blue color filled the dragon's mouth as he moved his head back and shot it into the air. Hiccup quickly covered his ears again as the much bigger, blue, sparkling plasma blast was fired in the air, a bit too close to them. Then realising he still had to concentrate on his running, Hiccup noticed he was already too late. The shock wave of the blast on top of the reckless running resulted in the boy tripping over his damn peg leg, tumbling his way down the wooden stairs.
Much too fast for a little sized boy like him.
"EEYH! AAH! OW-OW-OW!"
Toothless' eyes widened guilty as he saw his friend rolling down the stairs faster than he himself was running, which said a lot since he was running pretty fast.
"OUCH! OW! AAH! EEYH!" Hiccup grunted, shouted, exclaimed, yelled - everything, as he was rolling down faster and faster. How he could possibly stay conscious for this long was a mystery for sure. "ODIN HAVE MERCY-Y-Y!" Hiccup pleaded between beats from the steps, now rolling down horizontally. "OW-OW-OW!" Each and every step was another pain in the ass.
Literally speaking.
Toothless jumped up, hovering a bit to excelerate his speed before he landed on the stairs and ran further.
"TOOTHLE-E-E-SS!"
He managed to catch up with the help of his natural Night Fury speed, quickly getting ahold of his friend's prosthetic. It stopped the tumbling, that was good. Very good in fact. But Hiccup's momentum still caused his upperbody to slam into the steps further below.
Unfortunately, Hiccup's jaw had seen better days. Ironically, it was mimicking the blue shine they had seen from Toothless' plasma blasts before.
Grunting and murmuring unhearable things, Hiccup tried standing up. He had tumbled down so fast that they had ended up just a mere three steps away from the docks. "How- how long d- did I fall, Tooth—" He asked with his finger pointed absent-mindedly to the sky, but soon that hand went to cover his mouth. Because the cheeks of this poor one-legged viking were full of... you guessed it.
Toothless scrambled back up the steps, eyeing his friend both confused and worried.
Because, yes, Hiccup was indeed about to throw up.
A/N:
The end! I know it's pretty weird and unpredictable, but I had fun writing this, like, three months ago. If there were any grammatical errors that bugged you, I'm sorry!
Feel free to leave a review of you'd like to, I don't really think you can say much about this story anyways. But still, reading comments is always so fun!
I wish you a good night/afternoon/evening/morning or whatever time period you're in now!
