A/N: This is the first fan fiction I ever seriously wrote. It's from 2014, so season 3 was still airing! So this was before Kuroko's actually birthday party was shown, hence many of the liberties I took. I did some editing now, but the majority of this story comes from my 16 year KnB obsessed brain (not much has changed in 6 years though!) I had recently found it on my old laptop and wanted to share it with the world. Regardless, I hope you enjoy this version of Kuroko's celebration!
January 31st. The last day of January, marking the close of the first month of the year. Other than that, it was just an ordinary day, filled with the ordinary routine. Except for the past 16 years, it hasn't been just an ordinary day.
January 31st Kuroko Tetsuya's birthday.
In middle school, the only people at school who remembered his birthday were the Generation of Miracles. They always tried their best to give their beloved shadow the best celebration possible, given that most of his classmates had no idea.
This year, the Seirin team had prepared a party for Kuroko in the school gym. It had enough space to house all of the people who would probably end up coming and all of the antics that were bound to ensue. The party check list went as follows:
Entertainment: Izuki's puns and Nigou performing cute little tricks.
Food and drink: Kagami and Mitobe, with very limited assistance from Riko. The first time she tried to help, the cake exploded. Guess it was the bomb. ("Shut up Izuki!")
Decorations: Furihata, Fukuda, and Kawahara, with assistance from Tsuchida and Hyuuga.
Invitations: Kiyoshi.
Supervisors: Koganei and Riko.
"Is everything ready? It's almost time for the party to start!" Hyuuga yelled to his team.
"Everything's ready, but Kuroko isn't here!" yelled Koganei, oblivious to the fact that his statement shocked everyone.
"NANI? Oi, Kiyoshi, you did invite Kuroko to his own party, right?" At this point, Hyuuga was boiling with rage. He wouldn't be surprised if his simple-minded teammate had forgotten this one important detail.
"Ehh? Of course I invited him, Hyuuga; I'm not stupid!" the gentle giant Kiyoshi exclaimed.
"Ano, excuse me, I'm right here," Kuroko suddenly appeared, scaring his teammates.
"Oi, Kuroko! When did you get here?" Kagami shouted at his shadow. He was mainly upset at the fact that he didn't notice Kuroko.
"I've been here the whole time, Kagami-kun."
"If you were here, you should have said something, Kuroko-kun~," Riko said deathly sweet, as a dark aura appeared around her. Kuroko paled. Kamisama, please don't let me die on my birthday.
Izuki laughed nervously. "Well, let's get this party started!" (If anyone has a pun for this pls help)
"Ehh, wait! Don't start without all of your guests!" Kise suddenly burst into the gym out of breath, dragging a disgruntled Kasamatsu, "I had to outrun my fans as fast as I could, but you started without me!" the blonde fake cried.
"Kise, shut up before I kick you!" Kasamatsu yelled.
"So mean!"
"Ah, Kise-kun, Kasamatsu-san, what are you doing here?" Kuroko asked.
"Kurokocchi is so mean! Your senpai invited me and Kasmatsu-senpai and the rest of our old team-ssu! It's going to be so much fun!"
"I'm sorry Kise-kun, but I had no idea that Kiyoshi-senpai invited you or the others," Kuroko deadpanned.
"Funny, I didn't know that either Teppei~," a dark aura that rivaled Riko's engulfed Hyuuga.
"Wait a second, I invited you?" Kiyoshi, as usual, was slightly confused. "Oh yeah! I forgot to tell you Hyuuga but I thought it would be cool if we invited Kuroko's old friends and other players, you know!"
Hyuuga was about to go off on Kiyoshi, but before he had the chance, the newest guests began to speak.
"Happy birthday Kuroko, Kise wouldn't shut u—" Kasamatsu began to say, before being cut off by the eager blonde who leaped onto the shadow.
"Kurokocchi, happy birthday-ssu! I love you sooooooo much! Here's your present, I hope they all fit!" Kise shouted as he handed Kuroko numerous bags, all filled with clothing. Kasamatsu watched on, looking disgusted with his junior's..enthusiasm.
"Well thank you Kise-kun, and thank you Kasamatsu-san, but I don't know if I have enough room in my closet for all of this," Kuroko was not sure how to react, after all he knew that Kise had lavish taste but had not expected an entire new wardrobe.
"I can come over and help yo – ah, Midorimacchi! Takaocchi! Come in here-ssu!" Kise yelled to the green haired teen who was awkwardly standing at the door way, while a familiar hawk eye laughed.
"Shut up Kise, I was about to come in," said the tsundere. "Happy birthday Kuroko, this is for you nanodayo." He handed Kuroko a medium blue scarf that was in between the shades of Kuroko's and Aomine's hair.
"Thank you very much for the gift, Midorima-kun," Kuroko said politely.
"B-baka! It's just your lucky item for today nanodayo. [tsundere noise]" Midorima was blushing furiously.
"Happy birthday Kuroko! Don't mind Shin-chan, he's just too happy to be invited to tell you he spent 2 hours examining the scarves the shop had to make sure he got the exact right one!" Takao piped up, throwing a huge grin up to the frozen sharp shooter.
"Shut up Takao!"
"Ok can we get started yet? We want cake!" Koganei proclaimed impatiently, earning a nod from Mitobe.
"We have to wait for Aominecchi, Momocchi, Murasakicchi, and Akashicchi to come before we can have cake-ssu!" Kise stomped his foot childishly. When it came to birthdays, he didn't mess around, especially when it was for his beloved Kurokocchi.
"Okay, okay, whatever; does it even matter if they show up?" Kagami was not looking forward to being stuck in a room full of the weirdos known as the Kiseki no Sedai.
"Kagami-kun, they're my friends. They have a right to come," Kuroko used his signature pout on the boy with the split eyebrows, while holding a happy Nigou. "Arf arf!"
"Gah! I'm sorry Kuroko, we'll wait for them! Just get that mongrel out of my face!" Kagami yelled, shaking. His fear for Nigou had yet to subside.
"Ah~ Tetsu-kun!" Suddenly, a loud girl's voice was heard entering the gym. "Keep it down, Satsuki, you're hurting my ears," was the only response heard.
"Oh, Momoi-san, Aomine-kun, I'm glad you could come today," the small boy bowed slightly.
"I just wanted to see Tetsu-kun on his birthday~! Happy birthday! I made you this card... I hope you like it!" Momoi blushed heavily, suddenly nervous around her middle school crush.
"Thank you very much, Momoi-san. I will treasure it always," Kuroko replied, a rare serene smile on his face as he read the card. Momoi instantly fainted with a nosebleed, but quickly recovered to monitor her ganguro best friend.
"Yeah, Tetsu, happy birthday. The only one who can give you a gift is me, so here you go," Aomine handed over a box filled with mysterious magazines.
"Aominecchi, you aren't allowed to hog Kurokocchi like that-ssu! So mean!" Kise cried again. Suddenly, he was on the floor, a loud THWAP! rang through the gym.
"Kise, stop crying! It's Kuroko's birthday so everyone wants to talk to him!" Kasamatsu yelled, his foot still on Kise's back.
"S-sorry senpai..." Kise muttered, tears flowing down his cheeks. "I just miss Kurokocchi sooo much!"
"Ki-chan, don't worry! Dai-chan is just in a good mood today! But I'm sorry Tetsu-kun, I tried to tell him you weren't a sweaty ganguro pervert like him!" Momoi tried to be peacemaker as usual, but couldn't resist a dig.
"Aomine-kun… I'm not sure what to say honestly. Thank you, I think," His gift was not what Kuroko expected, although he really couldn't be too shocked.
"Nice, right Tetsu? I figured you'd like Mai-chan as well!"
"You shouldn't have. Really."
"Oi!" ("See Dai-chan! A woman's intuition is always correct!")
"Oi, Ahomine, you think Kuroko is in to the same pervy shit as you?" A shout was suddenly heard from Kagami, who had been cowering in a corner after his interaction with Nigou.
"Say that again, Bakagami! Mai-chan is perfect! You'd never understand the love of big boobs!"
"My, my, freshmen sure are getting bold these days," the bickering trio was suddenly enveloped by a dark miasma from Hyuuga.
"I'm sorry!" ("Hyuuga, you're right but calm down! It's not clutch time!")
"Ehhhhhhh, what's all the fuss in here~?"
Everyone turned to see a 2 meter class titan appear at the gym door (wait wrong anime. Crap). The tall beauty Murasakibara had finally arrived and was making a beeline to the food table. Himuro followed in, shaking his head at his teammate's simpleminded ways.
"Oi Murasakibara! What are you doing?!" Aomine yelled at his childish ex-teammate.
"What? Even though he invited me, I came for the snacks. It all looks really good~," Murasakibara said with his mouth full.
"Yes, thank you so much for inviting me as well Kiyoshi-san, if only to make sure Atsushi arrived safely. The food looks excellent as always, Taiga," Himuro smiled.
With a huge grin from being complimented from his pseudo big brother, "Thanks Tatsuya! I couldn't have done it without Mitobe-senpai's help!" The silent second year flushed and bowed, happy that his junior acknowledged his role in the food preparations.
"Murasakicchi, aren't you forgetting something-ssu?" Kise glared at his tallest friend.
"Eh, what are you talking about Kise-chin?" He looked around. "Oh yeah, today is Kuro-chin's birthday, I forgot~. Sorry Kuro-chin, happy birthday!"
"It's alright Murasakibara-kun. Thank you," Although the two didn't get along very well due to their differing views of basketball, he was still a friend, and Kuroko was not one to hold grudges.
"Ara~, I forgot your present..." Murasakibara said, patting his pockets. While his tone seemed indifferent, those who knew him well knew he was distressed by this.
Himuro sighed, reaching into his bag. "Remember, Atsushi? You gave me his gift so you wouldn't lose it. Here you go Kuroko-san, it's from both of us. Happy birthday!" The beautiful man smiled radiantally. Inside the wrapping was a package of vanilla umaibo, vanilla pocky, and a gift card to Maji Burger for vanilla milkshakes.
"Oh yeah~ Muro-chin is so smart! I wanted to bake for you, Kuro-chin, but I couldn't get to a kitchen in the dorms," Murasakibara replied, munching on a bag of chips he pulled out, making his words a bit mumbled. ("Atsushi, its rude to talk with your mouth full!" "Sorry, Muro-chin.")
"Ah, thank you Murasakibara-kun, Himuro-san!" Kuroko's face lit up happily. For some, this was the most emotion they had seen him display, but it was not surprising. Everyone knew his extreme weakness to vanilla.
"Eto, the only person left is Akashi-san. Is he going to be here soon?" Furihata inquired nervously, still terrified of the Emperor of Rakuzan. He was answered by the sound of scissors whizzing through the air and landing next to the boy who had just turned to stone.
"I'm apologize greatly for my lateness. I had to get my team settled into their practice here in Tokyo, but I made sure to come swiftly for my beloved Tetsuya. Happy birthday," Akashi said, rather elegantly, as he hugged his shorter friend. "Here is a box set of your favorite mystery novels, as well as an unreleased extra novel that I was able to acquire." Everyone in Seirin looked suspicious at Akashi's ability to get unreleased material. Just who is this guy? The Generation of Miracles and Momoi were unphased, used to their previous captain's power. Kasamatsu, Takao, and Himuro all looked at each other and shrugged, knowing the first year prodigies had their fair share of eccentricities.
"Thank you very much, Akashi-kun. I look forward to reading this." Those who did not know of the shadow's obsession with mysteries were shocked at the pure joy he displayed.
"EHHHHH?! Akashicchi, no fair! You can't hug Kurokocchi like that-ssu! He won't let anyone hug him!" Kise wailed, causing everyone to see cover their ears.
"Kise..." Kasamatsu growled, getting ready to strike.
"Eep!" Kise cowered, hiding behind the next closest person, Fukuda. He nervously looked over to his year mates, but Furihata was still frozen and Kawahara could only shrug his shoulders. He looked equally as terrified as Furihata, but was still able to emote. Kuroko was oblivious as he skimmed the summary of the unreleased novel. Kagami was too busy glaring at Aomone.
"Ryouta, I am absolute, so I may hug Tetsuya if I please. If I told him to accept a hug from you, Shintarou, Daiki, Satsuki, or Atsushi, he would, and it would be very joyous. So please refrain from whining like that." During Akashi's slight speech, Kise swore he saw a glint of metal in Akashi's pocket. Then tell Kurokocchi to let me hug him!
Just as Tsuchida was about to announce it time to sing to Kuroko and cut the cake, a small fight broke out between the idiot duo, Aomine and Kagami. ("Ehh, Mine-chin I wanted cake now!" "Taiga…")
"You wanna fight me, Ahomine?! Play me 1 on 1!" Kagami yelled.
"Bring it on, Bakagami! The only one who can beat me is me! Your light is too dim for Tetsu!"
Everyone sweat-dropped as they watched the basketball idiot duo begin playing. But then again, the room was filled with basketball idiots, so it didn't take long for mini teams to be formed and numerous half court games to commence. Using his misdirection, Kuroko avoided the fray and sat on the closest bench to watch all of his friends battle it out for who loved him the most. At least, that's what Kise proclaimed.
Holding his puppy close, he spoke quietly, "What do you think Nigou, is this the best birthday I could have asked for?"
"Arf!"
