Chapter 2

Three hours had passed since Dean had left to do laundry and to pick up lunch. He pulled into the parking lot of the motel and took a spot in front of their room. He pulled his duffle from the backseat and slipped it over his shoulder before grabbing the bag of food.

"Sammy, you hungry?" Dean called as he pushed the door open. He looked around when there was no response, making his senses go on high alert. He looked in the bathroom to find it empty. Dean sat the food on the table and headed out the door to check the pool area.

Dean let out a deep breath of relief when he saw Sam stretched out on a lounge chair asleep. He stepped to his sleeping form unhappy at how easy he walked up on him.

"Hey Sammy, wake up," Dean called to him, giving his leg a soft kick making him jump and groan as he woke up.

"Dee…" Sam slurred as he squinted and looked up at Dean.

"What did I tell you about falling asleep out here?" Dean chastised him. "Your face is pink, does it hurt?"

"No," Sam replied wrinkling his forehead and nose as he sat up thinking it felt a little tight.

"I got lunch, let's go eat."

"Okay." Sam stood and rolled his shoulders as he stretched his back before following him back to the room.

"Got your favorite and some chips."

"Thanks, need to use the bathroom first."

"Okay. Do you want water, soda, or a beer?"

"I'll just have a water."

Dean pulled the sandwiches from the bag and went to the mini fridge for a water and beer. He sat at the table and opened his beer to take a long draw from it. The coldness and slightly tart taste washed over his taste buds and down his throat. He looked up when Sam stepped back into the room and thought he looked a little better with the pinkness in his cheeks and a more alertness in his eyes.

"Looks good," Sam noted unwrapping his sandwich and checking it out. He picked up half of it and took a small bite, slowly chewing. He knew he should be hungry, but really did not feel like eating. Sam took another bite noticing Dean was watching him but looked down at his food when Sam caught him. Sam knew he was worried about him and felt bad about it but did not want to say anything for fear Dean would want him to stop using his powers. If he were honest with himself, Sam didn't know if he could. Now that he saw what he could do and how he could help, how could he not use them to save lives.

After a few more bites, Sam wrapped the rest of his sandwich up and put it in the mini fridge for later. He did not want to waste it and it was enough for his dinner.

"I'm going to take a shower now, okay?" Sam announced like he was asking permission when Dean plopped down on his bed and found the remote.

"Fine with me, do what you want," Dean mumbled his attention on the big screen as he quickly flipped through the channels. "Now we're talking…" he grinned when he found a marathon of Dr. Sexy, MD playing on a channel. He settled back on his pillows and tuned out everything else.

Sam sighed knowing he sounded weird when he told Dean he was going to shower. He knew he did not have to ask for permission, but it just came out that way. He was glad Dean did not make a big deal about it or tease him. He picked up Dean's duffle and sorted the clothes, putting his clean ones in his duffle but leaving out clean sweats, briefs, and T-shirt to put on. Since he didn't plan on going back out today, he wanted to be comfortable.

He gave the screen a quick glance and chuckled to himself knowing Dean would not be moving from his bed any time soon. He never really understood Dean's attraction to that program. But as he thought about it, it was a soap opera with a lot of sex and hot chicks. What more could Dean want.

Sam turned on the shower and adjusted the temperature to his liking. He stepped into the tub and under the hot spray, sucking in a short breath as he adjusted the temperature of the water. He turned the shower head as high as it would go and let the water wash over his face for a moment before tilting his head to wet his long hair. Sam ran his fingers through his hair before squirting shampoo into his palm and started washing his hair. He massaged his scalp thinking it felt good and then rinsed to add conditioner.

The water pressure was good and beat hard against his shoulders and back easing some of the tension from them. Sam was going to take his time and enjoy the shower. He soaped his body and stretched each muscle group as he went. After rinsing off, he stood under the spray for several minutes before rinsing his hair and doing another good once over to be sure he had gotten all the soap off his body. His last step was to cool the water as cold as he could stand it and let it cascade over him, cooling himself down quickly.

After turning off the water, he reached out for a towel and began to dry himself and then his hair. Sam felt tired and drained, but hot showers did that sometimes. He ignored his weakness as he slipped on his clothes and combed his hair before stepping from the bathroom back into the main room. Dean was still sacked out on the bed engrossed in the soap opera and ignored Sam.

Sam found his jeans and dug out some money to go get something to drink. He did not bother asking Dean since Sam knew he would not answer him. He figured on grabbing a drink he liked and bringing it to him. After picking up the room key, he let himself out and stepped into the sun, shaking his damp hair before running his fingers through it. He let the rays of the sun partly dry his hair and continued to the vending machine.

Sam looked over his choices for several minutes as his mind wandered before he shook his head and fed money into the slot. He punched a button and listened to the drink fall before adding more money and making another selection. He reached down and snagged two cold drinks to take back to the room. He paused at the other machine filled with snacks and candies and smiled as he fed money into it punching the number for peanut M&Ms. With his treasures in hand, Sam strolled back to the room and let himself in.

"Got you a snack," Sam offered tossing the drink and candy on the bed beside Dean.

"Thanks bro," Dean mumbled feeling around without taking his eyes from the screen as a sexy nurse strutted across it with Dr. Sexy following her.

Sam grabbed his laptop bag and went to the table to sit down. He pulled his laptop out and opened it up to turn it on. Once the desktop came up, Sam went online and used his bookmarked search engines to browse the internet for any possible cases. He knew they were staying at least another day at the motel and wanted to find something to keep them busy once they left. They were across the country from Bobby's and decided it would not hurt to pick up a hunt along the way there. He tagged several articles to review in more detail as he continued his search.

A couple hours later, Sam sat back and rubbed his tired eyes casting a glance over at Dean seeing his eyes were closed and he was snoring softly. He stood and stretched his back, hearing popping and grimaced. He did not realize how much time had passed and moved to the bed to wake Dean.

"Hey Dean, better wake up or you won't sleep tonight," Sam called to him, giving his leg a hard shake.

"I'm up," Dean growled out sitting up quickly and looking around for a moment before collapsing back onto the bed.

"I still have part of my sandwich from lunch to eat for dinner. You want me to order a pizza or something?"

"Yeah, that'll be good, wanna do that while I wake up?"

"Okay." Sam turned to find his jacket to get his cell and wallet out. He found a pizza place nearby and put in an order to be delivered to the motel.

"I'm going to walk across the street to the convenience store for a six pack," Dean told him as he put on his boots and tied them. "I'm going to get some lotion for your red face while I'm there. Don't need you to start peeling and looking all gross." He got up and snagged his jacket and room key before leaving.

"Okay," Sam answered with a wave as he ordered a pizza for Dean.

"Man! Now that hit the spot," Dean sighed, leaning back and rubbing his stuffed stomach. He had devoured the meat lover's pizza and polished off a couple more beers. He looked over at his brother who had eaten a small piece of his sub and still had some left over. "Sammy, you need to eat more. You need the calories to keep your strength up."

"I ate all I wanted Dean, I'm just not that hungry," Sam replied, keeping his eyes downcast as he wrapped the remainder of his sub again. He did not know if his stomach had shrunk from not eating or if it was something else.

"Maybe you should eat more often and smaller meals."

"Yeah, maybe, I'll give it a try." Sam got up from the table, ending the topic for now. He wiped the table and got his laptop back out.

"What are you doing there?" Dean questioned.

"Looking for a case. I figured we could pick one up on our way back to Bobby's."

"Have you heard from Dom lately?"

"Not for nearly a week. He was checking out a possible case in Missouri last I talked to him. Dom said he might have spotty reception until he was done and then we were out of cell range too. I figured I'd try him again tonight to see if things went okay."

"I'm sure he would have called if he needed backup on the case."

"Yeah, you're right."

"Of course, I am. I'm back to the marathon," Dean grunted moving to the bed and dropping on it. He found the remote and raised the volume so he could hear it. He smiled happily as the show continued to play out on the screen.

Sam got out the notes he had made previously and read over them before pulling the website up to search for any further information. He had found articles on several killings in a small town called Dryersburg in Tennessee, about five to six hours from their current location.

The articles reported the murders that were done by family or friends and when they were arrested and questioned, none remembered the incidents or why they did it. Sam wondered if they had been possessed by a spirit or demon that made them do it. It posed enough questions for them to check it out. He made additional notes and checked directions to the town since they would be leaving in the morning.

A/N: After a little down time, the guys are heading to another hunt. Will Sam be able to make it through it or will his weakness cause problems? They will be getting help with the case. It seems this story is not going over well, but I do hope more readers will give it a try. Thank you for taking this journey with me. I do like reviews. NC
