"He asleep?" Kate looked across from her place on the couch
"Out like a light the minute his head hit the pillow" he smiled sitting at the end of the couch
"Thank you" she brought her mug up to her lips
"Please, I'm the one who offered" he smiled awkwardly
"I.. I know we agreed to not tell him so soon" she shifted placing her mug down
"Yeah about that, I'm pretty sure it was your idea to keep it a secret just until we got the test done"
"Yes thank you for that"
"So what made you say it?" he questioned
"Heat of the moment, we had a fight and it just…"
"Slipped out?"
"I'm sorry.."
"It's okay.. I guess now we won't have to go through the drama of him finding out" he smiled sadly
"It's not exactly how I wanted him to find out" she brushed her hands through her hair
"I guess I never really thought about it, I mean up until six hours ago I didn't even know I had a kid" he picked at the loose thread on the cushion
"I tried to find you, you know" she turned to face him
"Really?"
"Went back to the same park for a week.. then when I found out I was Pregnant I went back again"
"I…"
"What we did… I never… I mean.."
"Me either" he knew what she was trying to say,
"And if I'm being honest it never really hit me that you'd be Navy"
"What I don't look it?" he teased
"Back then? Or now?" she grinned
"Ouch" he laughed softly.
"Jai… he's a pretty extraordinary kid" Mike answered after a few minutes of silence
"When.. when he was born he was in the ICU for a few weeks due to breathing difficulties I thought I was being punished for not trying harder to find you, for not telling you.." she began tearing up
"Kate…"
"I'm sorry.. just full of so much emotion right now" she sniffled wiping the tears off her face
"You don't need to apologise, maybe if I'd stuck around things would have been different" he moved closer
"Who knows maybe we'd be married with two point five kids" she smirked
"Maybe" he slowly placed his hand on hers
"Maybe…" she repeated turning her hand over, he interlocked his with her's
"Kate I.."
"It took two people to get into this position Mike, we were both drunk and…"
"I don't regret it" he answered quickly
"No?"
"No, not once" he shifted closer,
hovering his head in front of hers he brushed a piece of hair behind her ear in comfort
"Is this a good idea?" she rested her free hand against his chest
"Probably not" he angled his head meeting her lips.
Running her hand up his chest and to the side of his neck Kate smiled against his lips when he pushed her back into the couch his hand pushing under her shirt
"Wait…" she pulled back from the kiss
"I'm sorry…" he looked down at her sadly
"No… it's just…"
"We shouldn't rush this.."
"I think we need time to get to know each other.. I mean we don't.."
"I understand" he nodded
"Besides you still owe me a first date" she playfully shoved his chest
"I thought we did that" he grinned brushing his hand across her hair
"I don't do third base on the first date"
"Well…"
"Okay, that dosen't count" she shook her head
"What about second base?" he began leaning down
"Hmm-I think we can organise that" she smiled resting her hand against his cheek,
"I sail tomorrow morning…" he pulled back before their lips met
"Oh…"
"I'll be gone for a few days but… maybe when I come back we can do that date" he asked hopeful
"I'd like that"
"Goodnight Kate.." he kissed her on the cheek before moving off the couch to stand
"Goodnight" she smiled grabbing the pillow and placing it under her head,
she watched him leave a small giddy feeling rising in her stomach.

"That's all signed" Mike held out the clipboard for Swain
"Any idea where we're sailing too?" he looked down at the supply list
"Some local island" he shrugged
"Looks like you've got some visitors" he pointed, turning around Mike smiled when he spotted Kate and Jai
"Dad!" he ran towards him
"Hey Mr Monkey" he knelt down giving him a hug
"Jai wanted to give you a little something before you sailed" she pulled out a piece of paper from her handbag
"What's this?" he took it and looked down at the drawing of a stick figure family
"For your cabin, that's what Mummy said it was called" he smiled
"It's great thank you Monkey" he moved to stand when Jai shifted to go see 2Dads
"I hope you don't mind.. Monkey wanted to see you before you sailed" Kate stood there awkwardly
"And you?"
"I may have also wanted to see you" she grinned
"We still up for that date when I get back?"
"Absolutely, Maxine has agreed to babysit for me"
"Huh, the perks of having a cute kid hey"
"Oh absolutely I can use him to get special favours with the Boss"
"Thanks for coming" he smiled placing Jai's picture in his pocket
"I may or may not have convinced security I was your fiancé"
"Really?" he stepped closer
"The bastards wouldn't let me in even with…" he stopped her by kissing her softly "Jai…" she breathed when he pulled back
"I'm not sure if I can wait two days before that date" he rested his hand around her waist
"Keep kissing me like that and we might not even make it"
"Hmm" he grinned leaning back in when a figure showed up next to them
"Ahh.. excuse me Sir?" he cleared his throat
"Yes.. Dutchy" he pulled back to look at him
"The supplies are loaded and we're ready to sail"
"Great, I will be right there"
"Sir" he nodded making a quick exit when Mike gave him a look,
"Wow.. not the first impression I really wanted to make on your crew" she rested her head on his chest in embarrassment
"Please Dutchy has had his fair few of kisses of the docks"
"Thank you for the valuable information Sailor" she moved her head back
"Sailor?" he raised an eyebrow
"Sorry.."
"No.. I like it although if the crew finds out I may not be the big tuff CO anymore"
"I promise to keep it between us" she smirked when he pulled her into a hug
"I'll see you in two days" he whispered in her ear
"Not a minute longer" she laughed softly when he kissed the side of her neck before pulling away,
"No put me down" Jai giggled from 2Dads arms
"2Dads enough riling up my son and get on board" Mike spoke
"Ah.." he put him down with a look of confusion
"Bye 2Dads" Jai ran across to Kate once his feet were on the ground again
"Bye.. I'm sorry did you say son?" he pointed to Mike
"Yes and the money you've won, it can go into the Christmas club" he patted 2Dads back
"I.."
"On board, now" he pushed him towards the gangway
"Bye Daddy"
"Bye Monkey!" he waved following behind 2Dads,
"Are you and Daddy kissing now?" Jai looked up at his Mum as she waved to Mike
"Enough from you Mister, lets go swimming" she looked down planting a kiss on his head
"YES!" he laughed running off,
Kate took a quick glance back to see Mike still on the deck watching her.
