Chapter 8

Dean pulled into the parking lot of the motel and around to the back to park near his room. He got out and headed for his room, calling to Dom.

"Go check with the front desk and see if they have seen Sam," Dean called over his shoulder to Dom.

"Alright, I'll come to your room when I am done," Dom replied before heading for the office.

Dean unlocked the door to his room and stepped inside. He started to call out for Sam when the cold steel of a blade pressed into his neck as an arm went around his chest to hold him in place. Dean froze as he felt the sharp edge of the blade nick his neck sending a trickle of blood down it. He frowned when a female stranger walked out of the bathroom and came to stand in the middle of the room. He glanced sideways enough to see Sam's face over his shoulder.

"Sammy? What are you doing?" Dean asked as he stiffened in his arms. "I guess I know who you are," he spat at the siren.

"Too bad you were not careful enough, I pegged you for a hunter the first time I saw you and your brother," she sneered at Dean.

"Sam, you're stronger than her, you need to break her hold on you."

"She has no hold over me," Sam said. "I want to be with her forever. I love her and you're standing in our way of being together." Sam pressed the knife tighter to Dean's neck making him arch backward away from it.

"Why are you doing this?" Dean asked the siren.

"Have you ever watched someone kill for you? I have to say that's the best feeling in the world! But even better is to have two manly guys fight over you." The siren opened her mouth and squirted her venom into Dean's partly opened mouth affecting him too. "You can let him go Sam."

Sam dropped his arms from Dean's neck and chest and stood there looking at the siren.

"Alright guys, I think you two have some things you want to tell each other and work out. Whoever is the last man standing, well, they can have me," the siren preened, stepping back out of the way of the brothers.

Dean turned to Sam and balled his hands into fists before speaking, his body tense and ready to react.

"You never even tried to find me when Cas and I disappeared. You gave it all up, for what? Some apple pie life?" he growled at him. "You were forgetting your past life…and me. Did you want to forget me too? After all we've been through, you just throw me away like that?"

"I wish you had never come back!" Sam yelled at him, not backing down. "What did you expect me to do? I was alone, alone with no one to turn to. Yeah, I stopped hunting. I started a new life for myself. I found someone I loved and made a home with her. I was finally getting a chance at having a normal life," he ended.

"Did you hate me that much?"

"Why couldn't you have stayed away?"

Dean launched himself at Sam, knocking his hand away making him drop the knife. He punched him hard making Sam stumble backwards. Sam got his balance and rammed into Dean sending them both backwards onto the bed to roll off it. They both had drawn blood from the other and showed no signs of stopping. Dean threw Sam against the wall near the door and rammed into him making them fall to the floor where each tried to get the upper hand.

"That's it, who wants me more?" the siren goaded them, excitement in her voice as she egged them on.

Dom was walking across the parking lot and onto the sidewalk toward the brother's room. He glanced in the window and saw a female stranger standing in the middle of the room. Dean and Sam rolled into sight still fighting. The woman was grinning evilly as she watched the battle. Dom knew this was the siren, he could see the true form under the disguise.

He ran for the door as he pulled a brass knife from his belt. Dean had left the door unlocked and Dom barged into the room. He threw out his arm pinning the siren to the wall with his powers. Dom stabbed Dean in the arm and quickly turned to throw the knife at the siren, burying it in her chest. He did not want to get close enough to be infected by her.

Dean and Sam stopped fighting and looked at each other for a moment before getting up off the floor, breathing hard. They looked at Dom and then to the woman that was wailing as she slid down the wall to collapse on the floor. They watched as the body seem to slowly crumble in on itself and break away into a pile of dust and clothes.

"Thanks," Dean mumbled pulling his bandanna from his pocket to wrap around his arm.

"Are you okay Dean?" Dom asked.

"Yeah, barely bleeding."

"Dean," Sam said quietly as he remembered what he said while under the siren's spell. He knew he had hurt Dean with his words and was not sure how to fix it.

"I think I'll let you two have a little time," Dom suggested stepping away from the brothers. He could sense the tension in the air and wanted to give them time to work it out. He reached down and retrieved his knife from the pile of dirt. "Why don't you call if you want to go get some dinner later?"

"Yeah, we'll do that," Sam mumbled as he gingerly touched his bruised face and wiped the blood from his chin.

Dean looked over at Sam who was looking down at the floor with a guilty look on his face. He thought of the rash words he threw at Sam and what Sam had said to him. Was that what Sam really thought of him? Did he really wish Dean had not come back?

"Dean, we should talk," Sam spoke first. "What I said…I didn't mean it…It was the siren's influence… I'm…"

"How 'bout a beer? I think there's a couple in the fridge." Dean walked over to the fridge to pull two beers out. He looked behind him to see Sam still standing in the middle of the room. "Sit down Sam." Dean sat a beer on the table and opened the other one. He gulped two large swallows before sitting down himself. He winced as a cut on his mouth burned from the contact of the beer.

Sam looked Dean's way and drew in a deep breath before moving toward the table and pulling out the chair to sit. He wrapped his hand around the cold beer bottle and looked at it before twisting the lid off and taking a sip. The tart, coldness tasted good and wet his dry mouth.

"I'm sorry," Sam whispered not able to look up at Dean as he spoke.

Dean took another swallow of his beer and listened to Sam talk staying quiet.

"Are you going to say anything?" Sam questioned casting his gaze upward to stare into Dean's brooding eyes.

"I know Sam, I know you're sorry," Dean responded. "Same for me. What was said is said. So, can we move past this and not dwell on it? Maybe we both still have some issues to work out, hell, I don't know. But it's over now, let's drop it."

"I want to. Can you?"

"Yes, what's in the past needs to stay in the past."

"I know I made the right decision to come with you Dean. If I had to do it over again, I would make the same choice."

"Alright. Enough of that," Dean said, his voice stoic and determined.

"Here, let me look at your arm and put a bandage on it," Sam told him, getting up to get the first aid kit from a bag knowing their talk was over and he shouldn't try to continue the conversation. Sam knew Dean wouldn't forget what he said and he knew it hurt him, but if he was willing to see past it, so was he.

Dean undid the bandanna from his arm and slipped off his jacket so he could roll his shirt sleeve up to expose the small wound on his arm. Sam sat back down and looked at the cut before opening the kit and pulling out an alcohol wipe to clean the injury.

"It's not that deep. I'll put a butterfly on it to keep it closed and tape a pad over it."

"Alright. Are you okay?" he asked looking at the blood on Sam's face.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just need to clean up."

"Do you want to take Dom up on his offer and go have dinner with him?"

"Alright, I'll call him and wash up." Sam got up and put the first aid kid away before heading into the bathroom.

"You might want to shower before we go out," Dean told him. "You stink of sex and Sammy, I know you were under her spell. You couldn't help yourself."

Sam had the decency to blush a deep red as closed the bathroom door. He knew Dean was right because he could smell her on his skin. Sam stripped out of his clothes and turned the water on letting it get as hot as he could stand it before stepping under the spray. He grabbed the soap and began to scrub his skin, wanting to get any trace of the siren off him. After scouring his body, Sam did a quick wash of his hair and shut the water off. He grabbed a towel to dry with and cinched it around his hips before stepping from the bathroom and searching his duffel for clean clothes.

Dean got his cell out to make the call to tell Dom they would meet him outside in thirty minutes When Sam stepped from the bathroom, Dean looked over at him seeing the blood was gone, but there was bruising already beginning to color Sam's face. His face was slightly flush from the scrubbing Sam had done, but Dean did not say anything.

"Give me five minutes," Dean told him picking up a clean shirt and stepping into the bathroom.

"Okay." Sam stuffed his dirty clothes in his bag and found his jacket.

The brothers and Dom walked into the diner and waited to be seated. It was early so the place had only a few patrons getting an early dinner. A hostess took them to a booth against the wall and left them with menus to look over.

A waitress stopped at their table to get their drink order and came back with a basket of hot rolls and their drinks. She took their orders and dropped it off at the kitchen to be filled.

"Do you have any plans now that the case is finished?" Sam asked Dom as he buttered a roll.

"Not really, thought I'd play it by ear."

"Why don't you follow us to Bobby's? You haven't met him yet. He's one of the best resources for the supernatural around."

"Well, I don't want to impose."

"You wouldn't be," Dean said. "We could take a few down days and you could work with Sammy."

Sam looked over at Dean with a surprised look that he would suggest that.

"I don't see a reason I can't. Yeah, I'll go with you."

They stopped talking when the waitress brought their food and divided it out among them and checked to see if they needed anything else before moving away to help someone else. They all started eating, commenting occasionally on how good the food was. Dean kept an eye on Sam to be sure he ate.

After they were finished and the bill paid, they headed back to the motel. Dean decided it would not hurt to get a night's sleep and head out early in the morning for Sioux Falls. They parted ways in the parking lot with the agreement on whoever woke up first was to call the other so they could leave.

A/N: The hunt is over, and the brothers came to terms with what they said to each other and the fight. It couldn't be taken back now, so they needed to move on. Dom is going to meet Bobby and get acquainted. Thank you for taking this journey with me. I do like reviews. NC
