Best Laid Plans-Ch 1
The day had finally arrived, today was the first of the many many family barbecues that Dave and Fran Rossi held every year and everybody especially Henry and Jack were excited for the fun to begin. Derek Morgan smiled as he looked over at his co-pilot for the trip, one very beautiful Penelope Grace Garcia, who was not only his best friend but the woman that had stolen his heart the first day they met.
Derek and Penelopes mission was to pick up ice, more soda and ice cream, the two friends were currently discussing their love lives or lack there of considering both were single and had been for a while. Penelope and Kevin had broken up 6 months ago and Derek and Savannah had broken up for 2 months.
Penelope looked over at Derek as he said, "so sweetness wanna tell me what really happened between you and Lynch"?, Penelope blew out a deep breath and said, "the spark just wasn't there anymore handsome, not that their was much of one to begin with". Derek said, "why did you get with him baby girl if their was no spark"?, she said, "that my sexy best friend is the question but my answer is a selfish one".
He looked at her and said, "selfish, how is your answer selfish"?, she said, "well I wanted kids and Kevin was my last shot at a family with the kids I've dreamed of since I was a little girl". Derek shook his head and said, "goddess Lynch wasn't your last chance, you are beautiful, vibrant. smart, sexy, fun loving, sexy and one of the best people I've ever met".
She laughed and said, "handsome you said sexy twice", he said, "that's because you are a very sexy goddess", she said, "spoken like a best friend trying to boost my spirits". Penelope said, "now speaking of lost loves, what happened between you and Savannah"?, Derek shook his head and said, "I made a mistake baby girl".
Penelope said, "by breaking up with her"?, he said, "no with every getting together with her", Penelope said, "awwww sug, why do you say that"?, he said, "well when we got together I was just trying to fill a void". Penelope said, "I don't understand angel, what void"?, Derek said, "I too want a family sweetness and you know that my momma keeps talking about those grandbabies soooooo I".
Penelope finished sentence by saying, "got with her thinking that maybe she was your Mrs. Right"?, Derek said, "pretty much but getting together with her was the worst mistake I ever made". She put her hand on his and said, "I'm sorry angel fish, I didn't know that things were that bad between the two of you".
Derek said, "we've been broken up for 2 months and we hadn't been together for months before that, I just, well I just couldn't", Penelope said, "what a pair we make huh hotstuff"?, he said, "sad but true baby girl, sad but true". Derek felt his heart racing and he said to himself, "it's now or never, tell her, tell her how you truly feel".
Derek said, "sweetness", she said, "yeah handsome", he said, "the reason that I was with Savannah was because I couldn't have my number one", Penelope said, "your number one"?, he opened his mouth to tell her that she was the one he'd always wanted when out of nowhere a car hit them from the side.
Things were happening in slow motion as they spun several times before coming to rest near a telephone pole, Derek moaned and winced in pain as his eyes focused on an unconscious Penelope. He reached over with his right hand and said, "baby girl, baby can you hear me"?, she made no movement but he was able to see that she was breathing.
He tried to get free but couldn't, everything started getting fuzzy and he heard voices getting closer and closer to the SUV, he heard a voice say, "hang on sir, help is on the way, help is on the way". The last thing Derek did before losing consciousness was slide his hand on top of Penelopes and whisper, "I love you baby girl".
