Phoenix And Dragons

Chapter 3:

Previously on P&D: "Sorry for scaring you all but I'm glad your okay Kari I will speak with you all after the race with my master." The shadow then moved through the trees and branches like a monkey until he leapt into the crowd disappearing from their sight.

"Who was that?" Ken asked. "I mean he knew Kari's name so she might know him." Sora shrugged and turned towards Kari who shook her head. Davis then looked into the crowd and wondered, This is weird where is Tai? Who was that and more importantly his master? Then the chaos began.

Now: The chaos had indeed begun as the bell starting the race had rung and a stamped of Hybrids and Digimon covered the sky. Davis found himself and Ken in front of the girls as they were pushed and tackled by the deadly parade. "Wings up!" He shouted as he flapped his dragonoid wings and took to the sky followed by the others. He caught a glimpse of the 'shadow' and a bigger one next to it a few yards away watching them before turning and flying into the crowd. So that's his master, so what are they up to. Trying to kidnap the princess? Or something much bigger. He didn't get a chance to think any further as Sora and Kari shot past him followed by Ken flying towards the rest of the racers.

"Come on Davis!" Kari shouted at him. "First one there gets to be captain of the team!" Without anymore hesitation he shot after them focus on winning the race first then deciding to interview the 'shadow' and his master at the finish line.

As they came upon the back of the crowd Sora could've sworn she heard a couple explosions and cries from the center. That's right, they said we could attack our opponents between the start and finish. "Okay guys we're gonna have to use some firepower to get through!" She called to her friends who had found themselves in a similar situation.

"Attack the center!" Davis ordered and they shot off their most powerful moves into the middle of the crowd. They're all ultimate or higher in there so we won't kill anyone. Sora prayed hoping she was right.

"Shadow Wing!"

"Desperado Blaster!"

"Heaven's Charm!"

"Hell Masquerade!" Their attacks blasted through the crowd like butter as they quickly scattered to avoid the combined blast leaving room for the four to pass through before getting caught in the center.

"Shit!" Davis swore as his spears appeared out of his gauntlets as the crowd quickly surrounded them. He turned his head and saw that Ken had done the same and had sheathed his spear as well while Kari had a couple of her arrows of light pointed at the crowd. He looked to his other side and saw Sora covered head to toe in flames, her hair aflame underneath the bird mask. "Hit them quick and hard! We need to keep heading forward!" He shouted and they all nod their heads ready to strike when a shadow came from above. Davis looked up and growled. It's him, that shadow! Though his cloak was exposed he still couldn't see the inside due to him blocking the sun. The 'shadow' started spinning and pulled out several shiny objects. Davis' eyes widened in realization. He's gonna snipe the whole crowd. He turned to Ken who had also figured it out and they grabbed Sora and Kari and pulled them underneath the shadow as he started attacking.

"Kunei Wing!" His body was in full spin now as purple wings sprouted out from underneath his cloak and a mix of kuneis and feathers began to rain down on the other racers injuring anyone it touched. Kari watched in horror as the 'shadow' had proceeded to knock out half the racers with his attack. She heard a couple gasps and turned to Sora and Ken.

"What's wrong?" She asked the older girl.
"That attack."
"What about it?" Ken turned to her and shook his head.

"That was the signature attack of Peckmon, a Champion level Digimon." Kari's eyes widened as she took in the news, Davis was in a similar state next to her.

"Are you sure Ken, cause that 'champion' just took out two dozen Ultimates with one move." Davis asked, he now knew how dangerous the 'shadow' truly was.

15 minutes had passed since the 'shadow' saved them from the giant crowd and they were in the lead behind the very thing that saved them and his master and behind them was the rest of the racers who didn't get caught in the attack. They had gained the lead by following the 'shadow' as he left the center of the crowd to return to his master's side a bit away from the pack. Davis watched the two hybrids with great intensity, thinking of strategies to overtake them and win the race without issue. It then hit him. We know all of his attacks now and according to Ken we're out of his range but, he's not out of ours. He then proceeded to tell the others about his discovery.

"That's actually a good plan Davis." Sora said when he was done. "If they counter attack then we can find out what kind of thing his master is and if they don't we can smack them out of the sky." She concluded, and after some decision they decided to have Kari blast them as her attack hit faster and broader than the others.

"Heaven's Charm!" Kari watched as her attack silently sored towards the two 'shadows' in anticipation. She was surprised when her attack hit the smaller one causing it to fall from the sky with the bigger one diving after it. She felt bad instantly but followed the others when Davis took off towards the finish line which had come up on the horizon.

"We're almost there!" Davis shouted as he beat his wings.

"Whelp I'm gonna win!" Sora shouted as she zoomed past him towards the finish line Ken on her tail.
"Hey! Wait up!" Soon they were all racing, laughing, and smiling as they hit the last hundred feet and in front of them was the colosseum. Davis couldn't believe it. He had overtaken his friends and was just about to reach the finish line when a giant boom hit his ears. He turned his head to find the Shadow on the back of his master fly right past him using some kind of attack to propel themselves forward. The impact of the attack however had blown the master's orange tail out of his cloak and Davis took his chance. He grabbed the tail and with all his strength steered the cloaked man towards the ground where the three of them crashed a few inches away from the finish line. Davis slowly got up and tried crawling towards the finish only to be greeted by Sora's hand as she pulled him over the line.

"Nice job." She said before a smirk crossed her face. "5th place." She then laughed when she heard the maroon-haired boy throw his helmet and start swearing about how unfair it was that she won the race when he did all the work. She then heard shuffling and turned around to see the 'shadow' being carried by his master across the finish line.

"Hey you okay kid?" He asked him as he slowly put him down on the ground. Sora gasped at his voice feeling a moment of recognition. She was about to approach him when Davis plowed by her on a warpath towards the two only to be ignored when the master moved right by him towards Kari.

"Hey don't ignore me! You two took out half of the racers with one move and got into a fight at the beginning of the race. As captain of the royal guard I Davis Motomiya demand what you want with my friend!" Davis then grabbed him by his left arm and was shocked when he touched solid metal. Taking advantage of his confusion the master pulled his arm away and continued on his path.

"Not now Davis, I need Kari to heal my friend over there after you guys attacked him." There it was again! Sora swore she heard his voice somewhere before. Then she realized she has. It was the same voice of her friend's, the same one who came back from being deleted, the same one who saved the dragon kingdom, the same one who made her and Kari cry for hours.

"Tai?" She whispered but he was already on the other side of the field with Kari who looked just as shocked as she was while he kept talking with her. The rest of the racers had started to pile in and soon the award ceremony was on its way. The seven Hybrids stood on a pedestal with Sora at the front with the rest following after her with the 'shadow' at the rear. The queen stood in front of them with a warm smile on her face.

"I would like to thank you seven for joining us and fighting for our kingdom. Even at such a young age you all have gone through and reached a level that some can not achieve. So I would like to let you know one thing before we depart next week. Never give up on your hopes and dreams as we will not give up on you." She then turned to Sora. "We never will." The two then embraced each other causing everyone around them to smile at the sight. "Now go enjoy your day and brag to your heart's content." With that Sora nodded and gave a knowing smirk to Kari who replicated it instantly. Davis had never seen such an evil look from the two his whole life and it scared him. Within twenty seconds he watched the two girls grab the 'shadow's master and drag him off with the former quickly going after them. What the hell is going on today Kami. He flapped his wings and soon he and Ken were off.

"We're here!" Sora called out as she and Kari dropped the cloaked male onto the hard stone floor of the palace garden. The male sat up growling and grabbed at his right arm still under the cloak before covering it up and saying.

"Totally deserved that one huh." He then started laughing until Sora came up smacked him upside the head making him bust into even more laughter until he slowly calmed down to then stare at the floor.

"Where have you been Tai?" Sora inquired. "You leave out of the blue without consulting anyone about it. You left your own sister behind only deciding to give her a freaking letter, and now you come back with some kid who calls you his master! Where have you been?!" She let it out. She had been holding it in ever since she read his letter three months ago. She watched as he continued to look at the ground and was about to chew him out some more when Kari stepped up in front of him.

"Hi Tai."
"Hi Kari."
"Can you tell me one thing? Can you tell me why? Why you couldn't take me with you? Why you've been avoiding me? Avoiding us?" She gestured to Sora Behind her. Her brother kept staring at the floor avoiding her eyes finding it more interesting than her at that moment. "Please Onii-chan?" He sighed as he looked up at the two girls with guilt and shame.

"Fine then you girls want to know why?" They nodded. "Well Kari, it's because I love you. As your big brother it's my job to protect you, help you, and teach you when you need it and I couldn't do that out there." He took off his cloak and shivered when he heard their concerned and fearful gasps. "This is exactly why I didn't let you come with me. It was to dangerous for you to come and before you start talking about Keenan, he knows Stegomon Mountain like the back of his hands so I didn't have to worry about him. Like I worry about you guys." The two young women were in shock at the state of Tai's right arm. It was bandaged up with leaves and vines but the peaking skin black with infection of some kind of force. Kari had recovered first and tried to inspect his arm so she could heal it though Tai quickly jumped away from her. "You can't heal black digitron Kari. I also don't want you to be infected by it either which is why I tried to keep away from you." She looked up at him sadly before she backed away. They watched as he put his cloak back on but noticed he didn't pull up his hood.

"How did you get infected?" Sora asked. Tai turned to look at her and then looked up towards something behind her. She followed his gaze and saw Davis and Ken restraining a boy with dark blue hair and looked about Kari's age, she watched with amusement at the struggle he had with the twin dragons.

"When my master finds out about this he's gonna tear you limb from limb!" The boy shouted at the two.

"Yeah right. Who is your master anyway?" Davis scoffed then his eyes widened when he caught sight of Tai. He unconsciously dropped the boy who flew and hid behind the older male. "T-Tai?"

"Hey Davis I see you met Keenan here."

"Master! Master! Those two are trying to take me to jail!" His friend shouted. Tai laughed as he pat him on the head.

"How about we talk about it inside alright?" Everyone nodded and they walked inside the castle, well Ken did Keenan and Davis ran inside after each other arguing like 5 year-olds. This left him Kari and Sora once again alone outside. He sighed as he turned to look at them. "Look, guys I'm sorry. I worried you both for three months and I should've told you about it beforehand." He paused taking in another breath about to continue when Sora spoke up.

"We accept your apology Tai just don't make decisions on your own again alright. You're too stupid for that." He laughed before a smirk slid up his face.

"No promises." He then let out a hearty laugh. The two girls sighed before pulling him into a hug.

"Welcome home Tai. Welcome back."
