Best Laid Plans-Ch 16
Derek looked at her and said, "I'm not the father of your child", Savannah said, "Derek honey" and he said, "don't Derek honey me Savannah, we both know that I'm not the father of that baby growing inside of you" causing the smile to fall from her lips.
Savannah said, "how can you say that Derek, when we were together we were making love all of the time, some nights we made love all night". Penelope looked down her hands and then slowly glanced up to meet the smile that was once again on Savannahs lips.
Derek said, "Savannah we have been separated for two months and before that we hadn't been together in 4 months so we haven't been together for 6 months, 6 months Savannah". She put her hands on her hips and said, "how far along do you think I am Derek"?, he said, "I don't know, 4 maybe 5".
She shook her head and said, "nope, 6 months, 6 glorious months I've been pregnant with our child, your child", he shook his head and said, "that child isn't mine, their is no way Savannah, no way at all" and she said, "Derek this little boy growing inside of me is part you and part me and their is nothing that you can do about it".
Derek said, "when this baby is born I want a paternity test and then if it is proven that this baby is indeed mine then I will be part of his life". She smiled and said, "that's all I want, that's all I want", Derek said, "but let me make it perfectly clear, I'm with Penelope now" and he took her hand to add a point.
He said, "I'm in love with Penelope and I have been for years and if that child is proven to be mine I will be in his life, his life Savannah, not yours". She said, "that's your choice", he said, "that's right it is but let me ask you something".
She said, "you can ask me anything", he said, "why wait 6 months to tell me you're pregnant, why not tell me right away"?, she said, "well we were split up and I know with your life and your past that a child probably wasn't what a man like you would want".
He said, "a man like me, what does that mean"?, she said, "oh come on Derek, before we got together you were with any woman that would look at you". He said, "I regret the way I acted in the past but my heart belongs to Penelope, it always has and it always will and the sooner to accept that the better".
Savannah said, "well I'll go for now, I just wanted you to know about your son", Derek said, "we will be talking again Savannah". She smiled and said, "of that I have no doubt lover, no doubt at all" before she turned around and headed toward the door.
She turned and said, "I am glad that the two of you are doing better", she then stepped out into the hall and headed toward the elevators with a huge smile on her face. As she stepped onto the elevators she said, "round one to me" as she realized that everything now laid with Penelope and her sense of family.
Fran looked at her son and Penelope and then at the others and said, "we'll step out for a few minutes and give the two of you some time to talk". Derek nodded his head and said, "thanks momma", they then watched as their family stepped out into the hall.
Derek looked at Penelope and said, "baby girl please look at me", she looked at him and he said, "that baby isn't mine, their is no way that that child is mine". Penelope said, "Derek you dated her for several months, things were very serious between you so maybe" and he said, "NO PENELOPE, NO THAT CHILD ISN'T MINE".
He said, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to raise my voice at you", she said, "that's alright", he said, "no, no it's not. you Penelope Grace Garcia are the love of my life, the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with". She said, "I I I want that too but if you are this babies father"?, he said, "if I am this babies father, which I doubt then I will be in his life but I don't have to be in her life to be a father to my child".
She said, "Derek I" and he said, "please baby, please believe me, believe in me, believe in us", she sighed and weakly nodded her head and whispered, "always my love, always". He said, "you are the woman that I belong with and too, you, Penelope, you, not her, never her" and he could tell by the look on her face that they would be having this conversation again and very soon.
