Best Laid Plans-Ch 18
Derek couldn't keep his eyes off of Penelope. she had been very quiet since Savannah stopped by and dropped the big you're the daddy bomb on him and everybody else in the room. He reached over and intertwined their fingers and said, "sweetness"?, she looked at him and said, "sorry, did you say something handsome"?, he said, "baby girl I need you to listen to me, okay"?, she nodded her head yes.
He said, "I've been in love with you since the day I met you, you are the best thing that's ever happened to me and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, please tell me that you believe me". Penelope said, "I do believe you sugar it's just" and Derek said, "it's all because of Savannah isn't it, her dropping that bomb on me, on us"?, she looked down at her hands and nodded her head yes.
Derek said, "I can't lose you Penelope, I just can't", he felt her pulling her hand away and he gently squeezed it and said, "I love you so much", she whispered, "I love you too but I won't be that woman". Derek said, "what woman"?, she said, "that one that keeps a father away from the life he's suppose to have with his child, I can't and I won't do that".
The second she pulled her hand out of his he said, "if it's proven that this child is mine I will be there for him but that doesn't mean that I have to be with Savannah, we broke up for a reason sweetness and baby or not we're not getting back together". Penelope just laid her head back and closed her eyes, she didn't know what to do or what to say, she loved him with all of her heart and she didn't want to lose him but maybe he was never hers to begin with.
Derek said, "I can read you like a book and I won't let you push me away", she turned her head away from him and he said, "do you hear me, I won't let you push me away, you love me and I love you and we will get through this together". Tears streamed down Penelopes face and Derek said, "please don't give up on me baby girl, please don't".
The room was quiet for a few minutes before she said, "maybe you should move back to your room, maybe some space will help", Derek said, "no mam, I won't move out, I love you and by your side is where I need and want to be". She looked at him and said, "I'm trying Derek, I really am but right now it's just to hard, my heart is breaking and I know yours is too but I don't know what else to do".
Derek reached over and intertwined their fingers and said, "just promise me something", she said, "promise you what"?, he said, "that no matter what happens that you won't push me away and that you won't stop talking to me". She blew out a deep breath and grabbed her ribs and whispered, "I promise, I promise" causing him to smile for the first time since Savannah left.
In the cafeteria Reid said, "by now Penelope is doubting her place in Dereks life, she's going to push him away, or try to", Sarah said, "Derek isn't going to let her do that, he'll keep pushing back, he's been in love with her for so long and now that he's finally got her he's not going to just let her go", Reid said, "I agree".
Fran said, "this is breaking my heart, first they are in an accident that isn't an accident, they almost die but their love for each other brought them back and then they get together and then this crap with Savannah". Hotch said, "Derek and Penelope will fight for their relationship, I believe that, I totally believe that but right now Penelope is afraid that if she's with Derek that he won't be able to have a relationship with his son, a relationship that she knows Derek would want".
Desi said, "is their anything we can do"?, Dave said, "right now all we can do is be there to listen and to let them know that we are here for them" and everybody nodded their heads yes in agreement. As they sat there Reid knew their was more to Savannahs visit then just letting Derek know she was pregnant, her visit just happened to be the day they started sharing a room together and they decided to be together".
He sighed and said, "their are no coincidences, her visit meant more than just the reveal of the baby, but what"?, JJ said, "I never liked or trusted her", Emily said, "me either and we have to do everything in our power to keep Savannah from splitting them up". Hotch said, "we will Em, we will, she won't win, she can't win" as they then sat there deep in thought wondering what could be done about the Savannah situation.
