Best Laid Plans-Ch 20
The next morning came to fast, especially since neither Derek or Penelope got much sleep, all they could think about was Savannahs visit from the day before when she claimed to be carrying Dereks child. Penelope loved Derek, she loved him with all of her heart, she always had but she couldn't and wouldn't stand in the way of him having a relationship with his child no matter how hard he tried to fight her.
Derek sighed as he watched Penelope, she hadn't slept much and he bet that it was because of the bomb his ex dropped on them all, he still couldn't believe that she was trying to say that the child she was carrying was his. He knew that the child growing inside Savannah wasn't his, he didn't believe her claims for a minute and he couldn't wait for the baby to be born so he could prove it to Penelope and everybody else.
Penelope and Derek looked up as a nurse walked into the room, she stood at the foot of their bed and said, "Derek, we need to take you down for some x-rays this morning, we need to check those ribs out and make sure they're healing". Derek nodded his head and said, "oh, okay, do you know how long it will take"?, she said, "not really because we're backed up, it's been a busy morning" as she pulled the wheelchair over to him and helped him up from the bed and into the chair.
Derek looked at Penelope and said, "I'll be back soon sweetness", she smiled and said, "I'll be alright handsome, just go and get those ribs looked at and I'll be here when you get back". Derek winked at her and said, "I love you", she said, "I love you too sugar" as she watched the nurse unlock the wheelchair and turn it around and disappear out into the hall.
She laid there for a few minutes and closed her eyes as a wave of pain rolled over her, she grabbed her ribs with one hand winced, she then opened her eyes as she heard somebody step into the room. Standing there in front of her was her ex Kevin Lynch, he walked over to her and said, "morning plum, I mean Penelope, how are you feeling"?, she said, "not too good Kevin, what are you doing here"?, he said, "I came to visit a friend".
Penelope said, "we're not friends so please just go, I'm not in the mood for this right now", Kevin walked over and sat down beside her bed and said, "Penelope we might not be together anymore but I still care about you". She said, "Kevin if you cared about me you wouldn't have cheated on me, now please go" as she pointed to the door.
He shook his head and said, "I'm not going anywhere Penelope, we need to talk", she blew out a deep breath and said, "about what"?, he put his hand on hers and said, "I want another chance, I'm sorry that I hurt you and I want to try again". She pulled her hand out from under his and said, "no way Kevin, I don't want you, I'm where I want to be, I'm with Derek now".
Kevin laughed and said, "you can't be serious, he's a player plum sauce, sure he acts like he wants to be with you but after he gets you in the sack he'll toss you aside just like he does the others". Penelope said, "you know nothing about me and Derek, we love each other", Kevin rolled his eyes and said, "Penelope I know that you love him but come on sweets just look at yourself, their is no way that a man like Derek could ever or would ever love you, not the way you want him too".
Penelope said, "GET OUT", he said, "calm down Penny, calm down, getting excited isn't good for you", Penelope said, "you don't know what's good for me Kevin now get out". He said, "I love you Penelope, I always have and I always will", Penelope said, "Kevin you don't know the meaning of the word love, you wouldn't know what love was if it bit you on the butt".
Kevin said, "oh and I guess you think your beloved Derek does"? Penelope nodded her head and said, "I know he does, I know he loves me just as much as I love him and nothing you can say or do is going to change that". She looked at Kevin and said, "please go Kevin, I don't feel good this morning and I need to get some rest".
He stood up and leaned over and kissed her forehead and said, "I love you plum sauce, I'll go for now but I will be back", as he walked away she took her hand and wiped her forehead and said, "don't bother because you're not welcome here". Kevin turned and smiled and said, "maybe not but I will be back" and then turned around and headed out of the room leaving Penelope alone with her thoughts.
As he headed toward the elevator he smiled and said, "seed planted" knowing that he had given her some food for thought and hoping that it was enough to make the gap between them big enough to cause more problems between her and Derek. All Penelope could do was lay there and think about what Kevin had said, was he right, could a beautiful man like Derek love a fat, geeky nerd like her, she shook those thoughts off and said, "don't doubt him, he loves you, he loves you" and she closed her eyes as the tears freely slid down her cheeks.
