Best Laid Plans-Ch 21
Kevin walked through the door of Savannahs apartment and tossed his keys on the counter, he walked over to the bar and poured himself a drink and was just sitting down when she walked through the front door, thus slamming it behind her.
She said, "well Kev, please tell me that your visit did the job it was suppose to do"?, Kevin took a sip of his drink and said, "it sure did, I planted the seed of doubt in her mind". He then looked at Savannah and said, "and from your mood I'd say that your visit with Derek didn't go as planned"?, she sighed and said, "no it didn't but don't worry I'm not going to let a little hard work come between what I me and what I want".
At the hospital Penelope looked up and sighed as the nurse pushed Derek back into the room and helped him get back into bed, he smiled at her and said, "are you okay sweetness"?, she said, "yeah, yeah I'm fine but shouldn't I be asking you that"?, he said, "I'm sorry about Savannah but don't worry I told her not to come back".
Penelope said, "she has every right to be here, you are the father of her child and", Derek said, "stop it Penelope, stop trying to push me and Savannah together, because it's not going to work, I don't want to be with her, I want to be with you, with you baby girl" as he reached over and intertwined their fingers and sighed happily.
She said, "Derek you and Savannah are going to have a child, a son and you need to focus on that child, on that child, not on me", Derek said, "Penelope I love you with all of my heart, you are the love of my life and we belong together, you and me not me and Savannah, please understand me, please believe that I love you, believe in me, believe in my love for you".
Penelope said, "I don't doubt that you love me handsome but" and Derek shook his head and said, "no buts, I'm going to tell you what I told Savannah a few minutes ago in the atrium and I want you to listen to me and really really hear me when I say this", he blew out a deep breath and said, "when this child is born and if and that's a big if, if this child is mine then I will be in his life, his life but not in Savannahs".
She started to open her mouth and Derek said, "no, let me finish", she nodded her head and he said, "I've been in love with you for so long baby girl and now that I know you feel the same I'm not going to let anything or anybody keep us apart" and to make sure she got the point he gently squeezed her hand and said, "okay"?, she sighed and said, "okay, okay".
Derek smiled and said, "I honestly don't think this baby is mine", Penelope said, "Derek" and he said, "no baby, I'm serious, every time we had sex I always, always used something and we hadn't been together for months before we ended things", Penelope said, "well I guess we'll just have to wait until he's born to be sure", Derek shook his head and said, "I don't need to wait, their is no way that baby growing inside her is mine, no way".
Penelope sighed and realized that this was a battle that was going to have to be fought after the baby was born and all she could do was hope and pray that he was right. She had to admit something, she had to admit now that her and Derek were "together" that it was pretty convenient that suddenly Savannah was pregnant, so maybe, just maybe Derek was right and now only time will tell, well time and a paternity test.
