Best Laid Plans-Ch 25
Sarah had managed to slip out into the hall and call her mom and let her know that Savannah and the baby were both going to be alright. Fran was a little surprised when Sarah had told her that Derek had agreed to stay with Savannah for a few minutes to keep her calm.
Derek stayed by Savannahs side for several hours before the pain in his ribs finally proved to much and he agreed to let Sarah take him back upstairs. When he got back into bed he looked at Penelope and said, "the baby is going to be okay, she just started having sharp pains in her stomach and it scared her".
Penelope said, "I'm glad that both Savannah and the baby are okay", Derek sighed and said, "yeah, me too sweetness, me too" as he intertwined fingers with her. Sarah said, "now that you're back in bed I'd like to know what you meant earlier", Derek said, "Sarah it's really nothing so can we let it drop"?, she said, "no, no we can't".
Derek said, "fineeeee, earlier today when I was still down in therapy the doctor had stepped out for a few minutes, well that was when Savannah decided to pay me a visit". Fran said, "what did she want"?, Derek said, "she wanted to let me know that she was having an ultrasound tomorrow and wanted to know if I would go with her".
Penelope said, "what did you tell her"?, Derek said, "I told her no", Sarah said, "I think she tried to make things seem more serious than they really were". Penelope said, "what do you mean"?, Sarah said, "when Derek agreed to stay with her a huge smile came to her face and she clutched his hand in hers and held on tight".
Fran said, "what do you think baby boy"?, Derek said, "I don't know momma, it all happened so fast but I will agree that things happened really fast, when she was here earlier she was fine and then suddenly she started having pains, it does seem a little convenient but things can happen really fast when you're pregnant I guess".
Penelope said, "how long does she have to stay in the hospital"?, Derek said, "just overnight for observation and if she's doing okay in the morning they'll release her". Desiree said, "are you alright big brother"?, Derek said, "yeah Desi, I'm okay, I'm just glad that everything with the baby is okay"
Derek felt Penelope pulling away and reluctantly let her hand go and turned to look at her, Fran sensing that Derek and Penelope needed to talk looked at her daughters and said, "come on girls let's go get your brother and Penelope some dinner", the girls nodded their heads and stood up and followed Fran from the room.
Penelope said, "Derek I" and he said, "I know what you're going to say and I won't let you do this, I won't let you pull away from me". He looked lovingly into her eyes and said, "I love you Penelope, I always have and I always will, please don't give up on me".
She said, "Derek maybe it would be better if we keep things between us friendly until you get the results of the paternity tests, then we can" and Derek said, "no baby girl, I know what you're doing and it's not necessary". Penelope said, "you were so worried when you found out she had been brought in because their is a chance that baby is yours".
Derek said, "yes but" and Penelope said, "I love you, I always have and I always will but right now your heart isn't really in this, right now you're focused on the baby". Derek said, "I can't lose you, I can't and I won't", she said, "I'm not going anywhere, you're not getting rid of me that easily, I can't promise that I'll move in with you after I get out of here but you're not getting rid of me".
Derek sighed and said, "we've got plenty of time to talk about this, we've got several weeks left in here so please don't think that I'm not going to do everything I can to convince you to change your mind". She grinned and said, "I would expect nothing less handsome", he brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it and said, "I love you so much and nothing or nobody is going to change that".
Penelope nodded her head yes in agreement and said, "I know, I know" as they laid there looking lovingly into each others eyes.
