Week 13-16: Friends and Family
Week 13
"You didn't tell me that thing could fly!" James whisper shrieked, hunched over, hands on his knees. They were standing in a shady looking muggle trailer park. It was lit only by a flickering streetlight and the few trailers that had outside lights on. There was a dog barking a couple trailers over, and a couple screaming at each other right next door.
"You did tell me you'd help me test it. No complaints…"
"Two things, Sirius… Two things." James muttered straightening up, "One, that was before I was pregnant. Two, I was expecting to go through the city, at city speed limits… not get into a police chase, with the muggle police."
There was a snort, and both James and Sirius slowly turned to see a group of teenagers walking by, they were side eyeing the two men, before one muttered 'wackos…' and they settled at the trailer across from where James and Sirius were standing, and started talking and laughing loudly, despite it being past two in the morning.
"Oh! Make that three things!" James exclaimed after a moments silence between the two men. "Three, you could have at least warned me before the motorcycle
started flying!"
"I seem to recall that you like flying." Sirius joked, ignoring the fact that his brother in all but blood was one word away from slapping him. Or bursting into tears. You couldn't tell with James these days.
Neither man noticed as the teens quieted, and one whispered to another, 'You wanna go wake up old Mr. Harold Scrubb?'
"Well, I do like flying!" James said loudly, over the sound of the couple next door arguing loudly. "Just not when I'm not prepared for it."
A door slammed open.
Everything seemed to go silent, even the arguing couple, as a grumpy looking old man came storming out of his trailer. A sudden, loud "Damnit Tobias! Now look what you've done!" came from the trailer next door, but not near as loud as the arguing before.
"Shut it!" He screeched, "Shut it! All of you!" Then, he proceeded on a rant about how 'his Eustace Clarence would ever have acted like this!' and how 'his family hadn't always been this poor! But then those damn Pevensies came along!' it went on like this for several minutes. The deranged old man ranting about how these Pevensies ruined his life. Before he cut off mid-sentence, as if he'd forgotten what he was meant to be doing, and turned to walk back to his trailer.
There was a dead silence for several minutes before a whispered, "Sirius. How do you live here?" Came from James, as everyone started up their pre-Harold Scrubb rant, activities.
Week 14
Petunia didn't know why she had invited her sister and brother-in-law to the family gathering. She guessed it was because a part of her wanted someone there that wasn't a Dursley.
And, sure enough, her sister's, blue, beat up, 1953 Ford F-350 truck, clunked its way down the street and into a parallel park in front of their house. Their father had left it to his youngest daughter in his will. If she recalled correctly, her sister had been driving her own car, last time she saw her, which was a nice, white, 1975 oldsmobile that Lily had saved up for and bought when she was 16. Just as Petunia swung open her front door, and started to head out to ask her sister why, exactly she choose to drive that piece of junk, the couple stepped out of the truck, and headed towards the house.
Petunia noticed three things.
One: James was driving, she didn't know he even could.
Two: The couple actually looked cute together (unlike her and Vernon), in their matching emerald green and black outfits.
Three: While Vernon and James were dressed very differently, with Vernon wearing a short sleeve plaid button up shirt, and tan slacks, and James in and emerald green long sleeve button up and black slacks (Which he was what? 12 weeks along? Shouldn't he be showing by now? Petunia had been(He was, but they'd bought pregnancy clothing from Madam Malkin's, that hid pregnancy (Specifically male pregnancy) for up until week 20)), Petunia and Lily were wearing very similar dresses.
Petunia's dress was knee length, it was light blue with a white belt just below her bust, she had white flats, a cross necklace, and her sapphire wedding ring.
Lily's was much the same only she was wearing it correctly, as she wasn't pregnant, it fell past her knees because of her shorter height, and it was emerald green, with a black belt, and she was wearing black ankle boots. She had on an old pearl necklace, and her dainty diamond wedding ring.
Petunia felt jealousy rising. She had looked at that very outfit, but they didn't have it in her size. Vernon's parents hadn't left much to him and Petunia (that pearl necklace was obviously an heirloom), she and Vernon had barely had enough for her wedding ring, let alone one like Lily's.
She felt an ashamed flush rising in her cheeks, before she pushed it down. Surely it wasn't normal to be jealous of your freak of a sister.
She did want to fix things with her sister, but Lily had to act normal for once. That's all she wanted. For her sister to be normal.
xXx
Marge opened her mouth as soon as Lily and James had headed back to their hotel room, the old truck roaring to life.
"Can you believe them?" The large woman sneered, "I can't believe those- those- that boy was saying-" she paused hiccupping, "that boy was saying that he had been a- a- a police officer trainee, I asked him, you see." She paused again, "said he dropped out because of 'health issues'."
Petunia couldn't exactly argue with that, she most certainly wouldn't want to have a job as dangerous as law enforcement right now. Apparently, Vernon had something to say, but Petunia shut him up with a single glare.
"That boy is a wastrel, I tell you." Marge continued, then looked directly at Petunia, "And that sister of yours!" Marge exclaimed, loudly, making Petunia startle. "She was fine with it! She was-" The woman paused again, hiccupping, and bending down slightly to pick up her beloved puppy name Ripper, "She was fine with it! With being the sole source of income. CNA she said, they had the Potter family fortune, she said."
Ripper growled, Petunia side eyed him, she never was a fan of animals, Marge continued, shaking her head, "I tell you. That girl's a bad egg."
The only thing keeping Petunia from rolling her eyes at Marge's drunken rambling was that she was still watching Ripper warily.
Week 15
It was Frank who had suggested the group photo. He had a love for photography, and it was one of the few times they were all at an order meeting.
"We should… probably tell you something." Lily said at the end of the meeting. "Especially, in light of the prophecy Headmaster Dumbledore," she looked right at the headmaster. "decided to tell us about."
"What is it, Deary?" Molly asked. The only reason she and Arthur were there was because Order meetings were held in their house.
A few seconds silence, as Lily tried to figure out what to say, James glancing at her before he blurted, "We're pregnant." And Lily let out the breath she'd been unconsciously holding, as most of the women, Molly specifically (that woman needs to decide what she thinks about certain things), squealed in excitement.
"More specifically," Lily added, shooting a look at her husband, "James is." She paused. "And, we're telling you this now, because we're due August first."
Week 16
Lily was jerked awake at the sound of the floo in the living room going off. She immediately reached for her wand under her pillow, and cast a lumos, to make her way to the light switch. Looking back to the bed, she saw James pushing himself into a sitting position and shoving his glasses on his face, before going to stand up. "Stay here." She told him quietly, before leaving the room, shutting and locking the door behind her.
Reaching the living room, she found Arthur Weasley standing by the fireplace. He immediately raised his hands where she could see them, and muttered, "Fawkes." Which was the code word for the Order.
"Arthur? What's wrong?" She asked crossing the small living room in a couple strides. She heard the bedroom door quietly open, and James stumble out of the bedroom and down the stairs. Yup, she knew he wouldn't stay up in the room.
"Lily… Could you come watch the boys?" He asked, looking slightly panicked. "Molly's gone into labor."
