Road to Redemption
Chapter Two
Molly
Molly was in their living room holding a photo of Charles, Sam and her on their wedding day, the way they were laughing and looked so happy made her a bit tearful at what they had lost. Everything was packed and she was ready to leave their home. She couldn't help but reminisce:-
.
When he came back from Belize with that horrendous leg injury she really thought he would pack it in. It was the same leg he had been shot in and just how many operations and pins could one leg have.
She knew something had changed as soon as she looked at him. He seemed furtive somehow. He had been slowly shutting himself away from her and not talking since Elvis was killed. She could see that they were both broken, him from losing his best friend and Georgie from not getting the happy end she hoped for, that they would finally get married.
But as the days and weeks of his rehab had passed their arguments got worse as she tried to tell him he had PTSD and needed to get help and as he was already in Headley perhaps he should take the opportunity to talk to someone if he couldn't talk with her. He had listened to her when she told of her concerns about Smurf but wouldn't listen when she voiced her concerns about him.
He had accused her of not understanding him, not supporting him, that she was the one with problems not him. He always seemed on edge, like he was looking for someone whenever a door opened and one day it had and 2 section with Georgie in tow came to visit him. She watched him like a hawk as his face seemed to light up when they came in. He hadn't smiled like that at her in months, in fact she couldn't really remember when he last did.
She had watched while his eyes followed Georgie wherever she went, how he smiled at her, the laughter and banter. She also noticed how Georgie didn't seem to look at her anymore. They had been good friends and she had supported her at Elvis's funeral and she had many late night chats with her when Georgie needed to talk. She wasn't sure what had passed between them when they were alone in the jungle but something had.
Molly knew she had always had trust issues mainly because of her father and his ridiculous scams, Artan and Proud Mary for what they did but she had never felt the need to snoop before and when she saw his phone on the table while he was off having physio she thought she would take a quick look.
To her dying day she would regret doing that, wished she hadn't. There was message after message from him to Georgie asking if she was all right and will she come and see him. The final one being that he had feelings for her, he meant what he said in the jungle and wanted to know if they were reciprocated. At least she had found out why Georgie couldn't look her in the eye, but why hadn't she spoken to her about it, asked if there were problems and as a medic why hadn't she highlighted to her that he might have PTSD. Both Brains and Fingers had commented he appeared to be out of sorts and they had had no training in spotting the signs of PTSD unlike her and Georgie.
When he came back she asked again if he was all right and it blew up in her face. He told her to stop visiting that he was perfectly fine and if she needed to fix someone go and fix herself as he was fed up with her insecurities all the time. Perhaps it was her that had the PTSD after all, she still walked around carrying that guilt about Smurf. He had never spoken in that manner to her before and certainly never brought the loss of Smurf into one of their arguments.
She had left in tears and it wasn't the first time he had made her cry and it wasn't often that she broke down like that. Once outside she had phoned Jackie and asked if she was up to anything and did she fancy going out for a drink when she got back to Aldershot.
"I know there is something wrong Molls, I can hear it in your voice" said Jackie "Get your glad rags on its Friday and we can have a few in the pub and go on to a club"
"Thanks, Jacs" she had to smile at her mate, even on the phone she knew that Molly was upset about something "see you later"
-OG-
Later that evening Jackie and Molly met in the local pub. They had always been friends since was stationed at Keogh then got really close on that first tour to Afghan when she had met and fell in love with Charles
"Come on then Molls spill" enquired Jackie "I know there is something wrong" and was horrified when she saw Molly's eyes fill with tears.
"What's happened? Is Charles alright, not more problems with his leg is there….I thought with the physio that he was getting better"
"No, it's not his leg" sighed Molly "I don't think he wants to be married to me anymore" her voice hitched "I think he wants someone else"
"Rubbish Molls" Jackie's eyes wide with this shock revelation "He's always adored you….you must be wrong"
"Nah! I'm not wrong" said Molly despondently and told Jackie about the arguments, what she had found on the phone, about his PTSD since Elvis died and that although she doesn't think he has been unfaithful yet, not physically at least but emotionally, he had feelings for Georgie.
Jackie had always thought that Charles and Molly had a very close and special relationship and could hardly believe what she was hearing.
"Well we will have to do a bit of digging then see if we can find out, you can't be the only one that has noticed the PTSD" she patted her friends hand and sighed "I'm so sorry Molls, PTSD can be an absolute bitch, change a person to be something they're not and do things they never usually would have".
"Don't tell Dangles any of this will you Jacs?"
"I don't know how you can even ask that, course I won't"
"Sorry….it's just that they served together and I don't want him to think bad of Charles" pleaded Molly "May as well just let people think the marriage went tits up, I expect everyone thought it probably would anyway with a gobby mare like me anyway or he'd get bored of me before too long, and it seems he has!"
"Oh Molly" sighed Jackie distraught for her friend and more than a little angry at Charles and Georgie for not sorting out their grief and PTSD sooner before it got to this.
"Well I thought we was going to paint the town red and get shitfaced" said Molly trying to paint a smile on her face and change the subject.
"That's my girl" smiled Jackie back "finish up and we'll hit the club"
They walked arm in arm to the local nightclub and sat on the high stools at the bar. Jackie's bright idea of trying Tequila slammers a good one, as far as she was concerned. Molly feeling decidedly mellow and for the first time in months laughing hysterically at the stories Jackie was filling her in with about some of the new medics.
Molly felt a tap on her shoulder and swung round ready to tell who ever it was to bugger off when she saw the bushy beard of Spanner, one of Elvis's men. Forgetting her high heels were wrapped on the bottom rung of the stool she stood to fling her arms round his neck and if he hadn't grabbed her quickly she would have ended up in a very inelegant heap on the floor.
His beaming smile faded a little as it was rare that he saw Molly in this state, he knew she could hold her own with drink but he had been sat at table with the lads watching her and Jackie knocking them back.
"Hello Molly, Jacs" he said his smile back in place "Why don't you both come and join us?…the Boss has just ordered up a couple of jugs of Long Island Tea"
"Ooooh Vodka and Tequila in one glass…perfect" laughed Jackie who hadn't been hitting the shots with the same fervour as Molly.
"Trouble in paradise" whispered Spanner to Jackie while Molly was collecting her belongings from the floor.
"You could say that" whispered back Jackie rolling her eyes and shaking her head
Spanner held out his arm for Molly and guided her to their table and she slid into the circular seat smiling at Jackson, Peanut and Dyno. The last man she didn't know but gave one of her beaming smiles anyway.
"Long time no see Molls" said Jackson as Spanner slid into the seat next to her and Jackie on his other side.
"Are you going to introduce these lovely ladies then Spanner" said the man with a smirk and a London accent
"Arrh yes" Spanner laughed "This is Molly James and this is Jackie Aston both medics".
"And you are?" asked Jackie thinking he looked tall even sitting down and had lovely grey green eyes. Although he did look vaguely familiar "I take it you work with this lot" she laughed jabbing Spanner in the ribs.
"Bones McClyde" he smirked "and I did up until today when I was told I had to babysit a bunch of untrained twits" feeling a kick to his shins he looked across to see Spanner shaking his head.
"So how is Captain James and his leg then Molls?" and looking away from Bones to Molly "You been to see him today?"
"Yeah along with all of two section" nodded Molly "Is anyone serving this tea then?"
Bones smirked again, having caught up with just who Molly was and picked up the jug to fill the glasses on the table. He hadn't had much to do with her in Sierra Leone and she looked quite different in civvies tonight. Not to mention that Spanner had introduced her as Molly James and not Dawes.
The evening wore on and the conversation flowed and Molly was actually having a good time but that was probably because she was on the wrong side of sober, her and Jackie getting up to dance from time to time and Peanut joining them on most occasions.
Towards the end of the evening the slower dances started and Bones asked her to dance with him.
"So, what has your husband done to upset you?" asked Bones while holding her close.
"Who said he had" she looked up at him with very unfocused eyes and he threw his head back and laughed.
"I'm SF, we notice things and I was the one that brought him and that idiot medic out the jungle in Belize".
"Do you know him?"
"Yes, we were at Sandhurst together but can't say we got along….cheated me out of the Sword of Honour"
"Did he, suppose it shouldn't surprise me"
"Do you think there is something going on between him and his medic?"
"I don't wanna talk about it Bones, I don't think he is very well but he don't wanna admit it" she huffed "and anyway I don't know you very well either so why would I talk to you about him especially given you don't like him"
"I didn't say I didn't like him but he wouldn't be on my Christmas card list" he smirked "But I like you so if you need help or want someone to talk to I am a good listener"
"Thanks Bones"
Bones shrugged "not sure, but when I saw him in Nigeria just after Elvis I would say he might have been having judgement issues, maybe PTSD"
"So, if you noticed and I've noticed how come his bloody medic hasn't?"
"As I said Molly if you need to talk or want help contact me" and with that he led her off the dance floor.

The day that Molly had decided to visit him in Headley after he told her not to would be something she would never forget. She walked through the complex towards the gym where the nurse had said he was training, she spotted another slight dark haired girl in combats heading in the same direction.
Her stomach rolled and she felt a bit sick as she slowed her pace watching Georgie Lane go into the gym. From outside she couldn't hear all that was being said, just that Charles was telling her that there were problems in the marriage and that Molly was thinking of leaving him. He even showed her the bloody texts she had sent. As Georgie was leaving she heard him ask her if she could ever love him, if he was a free agent. She hid in the shadows of the corridor so that Georgie wouldn't see her and pulled out her phone tears streaming down her face.
"Hi, it's me, can we meet for a coffee later?"
"Sure, Costa's on the High Street 16:00 hours do you?"
"OK see you then…..Bye"
Then left herself without seeing Charles, sure that Georgie must have left by now.
-OG-
Molly hadn't really known why she had contacted Bones but he was very kind to her at the club. Hadn't really slagged off Charles even though there was no love lost between them he had acknowledged that he might have PTSD and it wasn't her just imagining things. He also seemed genuine with his offer if she needed to talk. While she had Jackie, she appreciated another angle, she smiled at the memory it still felt like yesterday to her.
Bones was already sat at the table with a takeaway cup in his hand and another on the table.
"Spanner tells me you are a tea drinker so hope this is OK" he smirked. "Do you want to sit here and talk or go for a walk somewhere?"
Molly looked around the coffee shop and there was no one sitting close to their table so sat on the chair opposite. "Here will do" taking the lid of her cup and taking a small sip of the hot liquid before getting more sachets of sugar to add.
Bones just sat there staring at her and waiting for her to speak "How come you are here and not with SF?"
"Long story" he chuckled "Seems I pissed off the Brig in Belize and now have to babysit the under-five's in Pirbright" he rolled his eyes "I've got three maybe four months to get them ready for Bangladesh and they all look pretty flabby to me"
Molly couldn't help but chuckle and took another sip of her tea to check it had enough sugar.
"So, what's he done and what can I do to help Molly?"
"How do you know I need help" and huffed "and what makes you think he's done something?"
"You wouldn't have phoned me otherwise would you" he grinned raising an eyebrow
"I don't wanna go into the ins and outs but I think my marriage might be over but I'm not sure I want to keep facing them" her breathing rapid and voice hitching but there was no way she was breaking down in front of Bones "Do you think I should leave the army?"
"No, I bloody don't" he said sharply leaning forward on the table "Bloody hell you have an MC…..Is this about Lane?"
Molly shrugged "We're both medics and our paths will always cross, can't face that… my upgrade at every corner"
"Doesn't mean you have to leave…transfer out….change regiments" he said forcibly.
"Yeah! Right! Like what, where to?"
"Look anyone brave enough to earn an MC and walk back to base after being held up by renegades, is not a shrinking violet, why not look at SF?"
Molly's reaction was to burst into peals of laughter to which Bones frowned.
"Course why didn't I think of that" she laughed "all five foot two of me"
"It's got nothing to do with height and I'm not disputing not many woman make it through" he snorted a laugh "hell not many men do either" he looked into her eyes and she saw the sincerity "I'll help you, so will the lads, get your fitness up, run you through selection" he grinned "you're less likely to see them again in Special Forces"
"All very secret squirrel then" she laughed "Do you really think I could do it"
Bones shrugged "Yeah if you want it enough, won't lie Dawes it's going to be hard and you will need determination and I'll push hard"
"OK" she grinned "I'm in thanks Bones"
"Good, after all Who Dares Wins" he grinned back at her.
-OG-
Bones was true to his word in the months he was assigned to 2 section and before his deployment to Bangladesh put her through her paces. When he wasn't beasting 2 section at Pirbright he took her to the training grounds and had her jumping walls crawling through mud and even had her jumping into the coldest water she thinks she has ever been in.
Then there was the interrogation techniques where they tried to break her make her say more than name, rank, serial number. It was probably just as well that when Charles came back from rehab he didn't seem interested in her as she was covered in bruises. She had often watched that celebrity SAS show with Ant someone or other, the ex SAS soldier. She always thought it was staged for TV but it bloody wasn't. They really did expect you to do those things and so much more, she may be able to swim of sorts now but she still didn't like deep water much.
She had tried her best to get Charles to see that he wasn't well but it just caused more arguments and again she asked if he didn't want to be with her to just leave or she could if he preferred. While she now knew he had feelings for Georgie he didn't seem to be making any attempt to leave her, it was almost as if he wanted the best of both worlds – maybe both of them fulfilled something and he couldn't give up either.
He wasn't the man that she met on her first tour or the man she fell in love with and married, this was a shell of him, hiding behind his uniform. She now accepted that she couldn't fix him, he had to want to do that for himself. She had hoped he would pick her because she would always love him but if he didn't she was ready to move out of his orbit so that she didn't have to come across either him or Georgie.
-OG-
The time had eventually come when Bones left for Bangladesh with 2 section and Georgie. Charles had been distraught that he couldn't go with them but he was still having physio and not at full fitness, but he had come home from Headley. He didn't seem to think that anyone could lead 2 section the way he did but nothing would convince Molly that he was anywhere near ready to be on active service. But she watched him as he pushed himself hard to get there.
Three months into that tour the news came through that there had been an incident at some sort of banquet and Bones had been killed. Molly was devastated, while Bones may have seemed harsh and brash he really did have a soft centre. He had helped her immensely, even taken her with Spanner, Peanut, Jackson and Dyno on the SF fan dance to the Brecon's, a gruelling exercise that really did separate the men from the boys.
Over the months he had become a good friend, listened to her worries for Charles and given good advice. Supported her when she thought it was a ridiculous idea about joining SF. Gave her something else to focus on and concentrate on rather than the disaster of her marriage and Charles overwhelming urge to be with Georgie, who never did contact her to say she had noticed that Charles seemed to have a problem. Even Fingers had spoken with her again to say that he thought Charles was out of sorts before they left for Bangladesh.
-OG-
He hadn't noticed her at Brize when he left on the early morning flight. She was with Blue, Spanner, Jackson, Peanut and Dyno waiting for Bones, or what was left of him to be brought back on the plane that would land to a quietened Brize Norton so that respect could be paid to a fallen comrade.
Bones had turned out to be a decorated officer according to the funeral service and Molly talked with his family and realised just how much of himself he had kept hidden trying to be the brash SF Captain. He may not have been the comedian that Elvis was but he was every bit as missed by his friends and family. She knew she would forever be grateful for his support and friendship when she was feeling low.
She put the photo back on the mantle sighing and running her finger over his face, she wouldn't take any memories with her. Charles had made his choice, he had chosen Georgie, put the army and what was left of 2 section above her, so she needed to pull herself together and get on with her life. Her transfer out of the medical corp and into Special Forces had come through and she had packed up ready to leave, taking one final look around their home.

While legislation had deemed that women could be on the front line, in SF there was still a lot of resistance to it from male colleagues. She felt she had to work twice as hard, be twice a ruthless to prove she was worthy of Bones' faith in her that she could do this. The new Captain was Blue and wherever possible she was assigned to his team with Spanner and Jackson, depending on the operation Peanut and Dyno too.
Much to her absolute surprise she received a short letter from Bones after his death, one that they were all required to write. It was only a few lines but told her he was sorry he wasn't there to see that she made it into SF and he had every faith she would do it, to not give up. To not look back but forward, if she and Charles were meant to be then it would be so but in the meantime to live her life to the full.
Her Nan, Jack and Harry bouncers from the Earl, brought her stuff over to Hereford and she was now living in Peanuts spare room. Her Nan had got her a good solicitor someone that Elsie knew, that would make sure it was all wrapped up quickly. She missed seeing Jackie, Katy and Lauren all the time at Keogh, they had been together for years and it felt odd not seeing them every day, but Peanut was easy to share with. They had similar tastes, both not good cooks, so take-away's and ding meals were something they both enjoyed. She had even got him into Nutella on toast and they frequently watched a film splitting a family bar of fruit and nut. Spanner and Jenny often coming over to join them, or all the team going out for a meal and a few drinks.
She was devastated at the end of her marriage and his betrayal but knew there would never be anyone else for her, not like him anyway. She didn't know exactly why she knew that but in the early days after that first tour, how they were and when he got his fitness back and going off to Kenya, she genuinely believed him when he said he'd adore her for always. She knew she would him, she wouldn't have married him otherwise. But you can't look at life through a set of wing mirrors, you have to look forward Bones had told her that.
-OG-
She hadn't done covert operations before and they were different. So it wasn't long before they were all called into a meeting, they were due to go on an undercover operation in Libya. A trafficking ring sending people across to Italy. The Italian government wanting it broken up and the ringleaders brought to trial. They were going to be away for up to six months while they infiltrated the gang.
Blue called Molly into his office after the briefing "Is this going to be a problem for you? I know it's your first operation and you have personal things going on at the moment."
"No Boss" said Molly standing straighter, not wanting them to know how upset she was at the breakdown of her marriage "I can let my solicitor know I will be away and any paperwork that needs signing I can do it before I go."
"I'm sorry Dawesy if what I told you caused all this."
"Not your fault Boss, would have probably found out anyway, he was never good at keeping secrets" she gave a weak smile "He made his choices."
"For what it's worth I hear he is getting help."
"I'm pleased for him, glad he's finally doing it."
"Right" smiled Blue wanting to move on "You looking forward to your first op, is there anything you want to ask?"
"Well, there is one thing Boss" she grinned "It's definitely only pretend that Peanut and I are married ain't it, seeing as I'm still technically married?"
"Yes Dawes" he grinned back "As his wife you will be with him when he has meetings, serve the tea and food, mingle with the other wives, but no one will take any notice of you or look at you twice, so we are hoping you will be able to snoop about while the men are talking."
-OG-
Molly didn't know why she thought undercover work would be exciting but it wasn't it was bloody boring most of the time, sitting about waiting for things to happen. Peanut had brought out an old laptop with a DVD player and he and Spanner had brought a selection of films to watch.
"Did you think it would be like Ultimate Force or Strike Back or something, all action packed?" laughed Spanner.
Molly shrugged, "Why didn't you tell me you were bringing DVD's like this? I could've brought out some" she huffed as they were watching Man on Fire.
"Good reason for that Molls" grinned Spanner "We don't want to watch Bridget Jones, Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing"
"Bit sexist ain't it assuming I just wanna watch romcoms" both men laughing as she elbowed Spanner in the ribs.
"So, what would you have picked then?"
"What about Prometheus, Star Wars or what about Inside Job or 28 Days, or the Omen."
"Quite a choice there Molly" laughed Peanut "Perhaps we could let you bring some next time."
"Yeah and maybe Love Actually, the music's good" giggling then looking out the side of her eye "What about The Birds" and Spanner started sniggering and elbowed her.
"We can do that if you sit through Arachnophobia" grinned Peanut "Anyway how about The Italian Job tomorrow night?"
"The classic or the remake" answered Spanner.
"Classic of course" retorted Peanut.
-OG-
Months had passed on this op. They now knew who the ringleaders were, where they operated from, all their locations, they had planned a detailed operation to round them all up, the man at the top being the last to take and it was not an option to lose him.
They wanted them all caught and the Italians were providing the backup. The people being trafficked were the lucky ones if they were caught, those that got through would end up in sweat shops, slave labour or sex workers. Having to work to pay these people back, there would be no better life.
They went in hard and fast, rounding up the 2nd and 3rd in command of the traffickers, zip tying their hands as they caught them, Peanut leading them back to the waiting Italian Army to take them away. They were on target to go to the main house and the man they were after the foot soldiers and guards in the gang being taken on the way.
"Dawes" ordered Blue "Don't let him get away, we will be there soon" as Molly shot across the compound and into the house. After having come from the bright sunny compound the house seemed dimly lit as her eyes tried to adjust. She moved across the opulent hall and towards the stairs when she was grabbed from behind, hands around her throat, squeezing and she could see bright sparks as she struggled to breathe her gun kicked away as she dropped it.
"Dawes, what have I taught you" in her mind she heard Bones bellowing his orders "What do you do if you are attacked from behind"
She stamped on his foot, then elbowed him in the ribs as she felt the grip around her throat loosen a little. It was enough for her to swing round and head-butt him, her helmet coming into contact with his nose, bringing the palm of her hand up to his lower jaw. He still hadn't gone down as she went to lift her leg. "What are you doing Dawes, balance, not your knee use your leg, don't make him angry make him go down and stay down." She heard Bones directing her in her head.
-OG-
"Boss Molly is on her own in there" said Spanner as he zip tied one of the men "Go" ordered Blue as Spanner raced into the building to see where Molly was and if she was alright, not to mention they had spent 6 months here and needed to get this man.
"Peanut" started Blue "I can finish up here with the Italian Army go support Spanner and Dawes make sure there is no one else in there" Peanut nodded, and he shot off after his colleagues.
Peanut raced ahead and into the hall, as he drew up level with Molly and Spanner he saw the man they had been after for six long months on his knees on the marble floor clutching his groin his head on the cold surface of the floor moaning in pain. Peanut couldn't help but grin as he looked over Molly's head at Spanner who nodded grinning back.
"The Italian Job" said Spanner and Peanut sniggered while nodding.
"What are you two on about" huffed Molly, still a little shaken at what had happened her voice a little raspy. She didn't hear the footsteps coming up behind her, still looking at the man on the floor who had tried to throttle her. At that moment he rolled groaning onto his side and they could see the blood pouring from his nose.
"I think what they are trying to say is" smirked Blue behind her "What were your orders?"
"Apprehend him, don't let him get away Boss."
"Right" laughed Blue "So I expected to come in here and see him on his knees, hands behind his head" sniggering again "Or maybe up against the wall with his hands above his head and his legs spread"
"What about flat on the floor with his hands behind his head Boss?" sniggered Peanut.
"Yes, that was an option" said Blue straight faced and nodding "In all these scenario's you would be standing there with your gun pointing at the prisoner."
"Did I do something wrong Boss?" she asked tentatively still looking at the man on the floor clutching his wedding tackle and groaning his eyes tightly closed tears streaming down his face.
"No Dawes you didn't do anything wrong" grinned Blue putting his hand on her shoulder "I think they are alluding to a very famous line from that film."
"What's that Boss?"
"You were only meant to blow the bloody doors off" said Spanner and Peanut in unison laughing.
"Pick the bastard up and tell the Italians to take him to hospital" laughed Blue. "At the very least he has a broken nose" Spanner walked across the floor, first picking up Molly's gun and handing it back to her with a nod then he and Peanut took hold of one arm each to pull the prisoner to his feet virtually dragging him out the room and to the waiting helicopter. This left Molly and Blue in the hallway as she looked up at him.
"Sorry Boss, he took me by surprise and I dropped me gun."
"This was your first operation Molly, and you have learnt a lot" grinning "Maybe keep a tighter hold on your weapon in future" then continuing "I take it you used the technics Bones taught you?"
"Yes Boss" she grinned "And you too Boss."
"Well done Dawes" he nodded his head towards the door "Let's start organising getting back home shall we?" As they walked back to the quadrant and the waiting helicopter, Spanner and Peanut already inside and waiting their arrival as it lifted off taking them back to base, then on to Cyprus and finally home.

The guys appreciated all her medical training and had her back when they were on ops. While they wondered if she would have a problem killing someone they were a team she fixed them up if they were wounded and they covered her in combat and as time went on there was great trust between them as a group and whenever possible she was always with Blue and his men. She was very much part of the team and she loved working with them.
She didn't want Charles to know where she was living, both her family and his honoured her request. If he got the help she wanted for him, then maybe lady luck would be on their side, their paths would cross again, he'd come and find her.
-OG-
She thought long and hard as to whether she could ever forgive Charles for what he did with Georgie but then thought of Bones, Elvis and Smurf who had had their choices removed, their lives cut short without fulfilling the dreams they had.
Although she had the MC for crawling through a minefield to Smurf she couldn't believe that she was one of only a handful of women that had actually made it through the selection process to SF. Bones, bless him, had set her on a new path and his encouragement had given her new purpose and confidence in her abilities. Blue was honing that and she had been on many operations with the team.
She still kept in touch with Jackie and went out with her for a drink when she went to stay with her and Dangles and still had the odd Spa trip if they weren't on tour. She knew that Georgie had moved back to Stockport and was now in a training role and had moved up to Sergeant so whatever she thought she had with Charles hadn't lasted long.
She knew she would never forgive her so called friend for sleeping with her husband, for not coming to her to let her know that Charles was struggling when the rest of the team noticed and for not being the same friend to Molly that she was to her when she needed her. But she did understand the loss of a loved one as she had lost the love of her life too. Charles may not have died but he certainly changed enough to be a shell of the man she married, to lose his purpose and not notice that he was drifting from his family who would be or should be what grounded him.
-OG-
Molly was called into a meeting with Blue. They were being sent back to Afghan. There were leads on Omar who had organised the killing of Elvis amongst others. She still missed Elvis, his death had changed so many lives. The elections out there were corrupt and they were to protect a Doctor as she was one of the candidates.
Even after all these years nothing seemed to have changed out there and Molly couldn't help but think back to a conversation with Charles when they were walking up to the mountain CP when he told her she needed to have faith, that the higher ups knew what they were doing. Nothing had changed and the people were still no better off, really what had actually been achieved?.
Peanut wasn't on this mission with her so she left a note saying she was away for a while and packed the things she needed into her Bergen. She phoned her Nan to let her know she was leaving the country and then phoned Jackie to say that she was on her way back to Afghan and not sure when she would be back. Much to her surprise Jackie informed her that 2 section were also out there in Kabul and to say hello to Dangles if she came across him.
