Chapter One
Gio was a very lonely boy, had been for as long as he could remember. He believed it was his mother's reputation that scared people away, they feared her ire more than they desired his friendship. So he didn't think it was worth his while trying, his butler was nice company though the man was too old to play games with so Gio didn't count him as more than an acquaintance. Usually, the boy could be found playing with the local Pokémon in the City, Viridian had stray Pokémon in abundance. But today he was waiting outside of the new Pokémon Professors lab, bouncing eagerly on the balls of his feet.
For today was the day he would be finally set out on his journey to becoming a Pokémon Master, well Pokémon Trainer really, but he wanted to be the best of the best. So he got up early, his mother had left on important business the day before to the Unova region, slid down the rails in his hyper state despite the old Butlers protesting.
"Come on Albert! We have to get to Pallet town before all of the Pokémon are gone!" Gio hollered behind him excitedly as he ran past the old man in the entrance hall, who shook his head in a fond sort of exasperation. The boy heard his butler mutter something under his breath about his carelessness, Gio rolled his eyes he knew Albert meant well, but he was finally going to leave Viridian! He didn't have time to walk down the stairs when he could miss out on getting a starter Pokémon if he showed up too late.
Without changing out of his Meowth patterned pyjamas, Gio sped out the door and practically dived into the limo, waiting impatiently for his butler to fetch the driver. He didn't know why the old man didn't just drive him himself.
They arrived in Pallet Town just before noon despite having left early hours in the morning. Albert sighed fondly with an eye roll, when he saw his young master passed out in the backseat, drool dribbling down his chin and his previously neatly combed dark brown hair was now a chaotic mess sticking up all over the place.
A smile crept onto the old man's face when he pictured his young master's mother with a horrified expression on her face, as much as he cared for the boy he loathed his mother.
Madame Esme Boss wasn't known for her compassion, and Albert didn't care much for her he had been hired by her husband, an old war companion of his. The boy's father had passed away when his young master hadn't been much older than two years old, he figured that was when the woman turned sour—well more bitter than sour. He stuck around out of duty at first, then love, caring for the boy like a grandson he never had.
After waiting for about ten minutes for the child to awaken Albert prepared himself for a grumpy Boss child. Only instead Gio just pushed passed the old butler still excited over the prospect of getting a Pokémon. He shook his head again and trailed after the youth climbing the stairs at a far more sedate pace than his ten-year-old and hyper charge.
"Come on! Hurry up, Albert!"
"I'm coming to Master Giovanni." The boy despite his eagerness scowled at him and pushed the door to the Professor's lab open.
"Don't call me that. You sound like my mother." Gio pouted as they rounded a corner passing a few of the lab assistants on their search for the prodigal young professor Samuel Oak.
Gio twisted the fabric of his pyjamas nervously between his fingers as he scanned the room for the professor. His eyes landed on a person slumped on a desk as if they had fallen asleep there. Grinning Gio announced his presence loudly startling the man from his slumber.
"Huh?! Wha—oh. H-hello there. You must be Giovanni Boss, Madame Boss's son. Forgive my ah…" he trailed off gesturing to his current state his light brown hair looked windswept despite only having fallen asleep on his desk and his lab coats collar was half up and half down looking quite comical.
The professor turned his attention to the table in the middle of the room that held what looked to be three capsule-like red and white balls. Though two of them were open and Gio felt his heart sink. What if the Pokémon he wanted wasn't there? What if he was too late? He chewed his lip looking between his butler and the kind professor.
"Unfortunately that is the last Pokémon I have on hand. Go ahead take it, it's yours." The professor encouraged him.
Gio bobbed his head, his palms suddenly felt very sweaty as he shuffled over to the table holding the ball. He reached out slowly hesitant to actually grab it, not wanting to be disappointed if it wasn't what he wanted. He shoved down the feeling of doubt, determined to love the pokémon no matter what it was, and wrapped his fingers around the ball and brought it close to his face to inspect it, before slowly pressing the button. The Pokéball popped open releasing a red flash that formed into the shape of lizard mid-air.
Gio fumbled with the capsule as he caught the orange fire-type Pokémon in his arms and held it at a distance studying its eager expression with a narrowed stare. Making the adults sweat, hoping that the youth wouldn't be too disappointed with the Starter he received.
When the young Boss grinned brightly at the Charmander both Professor Oak and the boy's butler released a breath, relief flooded their bodies as they visibly relaxed. Something that went unnoticed by the child as he swung the equally ecstatic Pokémon around in his arms, hugging it close to his face.
"I love it!" Gio exclaimed as he stopped spinning around stumbling slightly with dizziness and made his way back to where Albert was standing with his bag.
"Him." Professor Oak corrected.
Gio paused and blinked down at his companion who looked up at him with a sharp-toothed grin causing Gio to grin back. "Cool! Thank you, Professor!" He called behind him as he ran from the room with the fire-type still in his arms leaving Albert to apologise to the poor man for the child's abrupt departure before leaving in search of his charge.
It was nearing the afternoon when Gio finally set out on his journey. After changing out of his pajamas, Gio and his partner Charmander—who sat comfortably in Gio's backpack—waved goodbye, in Charmander's case Gio insisted on hollering his farewell for the rest of Pallet town to hear.
Giovanni had insisted on starting from Route 1 as the other trainers from Pallet Town had. Like his father had before him. Or so his mother said, Giovanni's father hadn't just fought in the last War in Orre region he had been Kanto's last champion. One of the greatest Pokémon masters to ever walk the Earth. Pietro Boss was a legend and the hero of many aspiring Pokémon trainers, his son being no exception despite having never met him in person. Gio wanted to be just like his father, not whatever it was his mother was trying to force on him.
"Come on Charmander! Let's go! Bye Albert!" Gio said as he and his Pokémon head out to begin their journey together.
A/N: In Pokémon Origins Giovanni's starter Pokémon as a child was a Charmander and the first Pokémon he ever caught was a Weedle. I don't know where he got his Persian but I'll assume that he saved it as a Meowth(or had it given to him from his mother) over actually battling it in the wild, mainly because the two have such a close relationship and Persians are usually very temperamental. The rest of his team will be the same as his Gym team though it will take longer for him to get to them in this story. Also, I was too lazy to actually think up an actual surname for him and just went with Boss cause why not?

I hope this was decent sorry I have been away. I promise to continue with my stories but I really wanted to share this... mostly because I didn't want to forget about it and eventually lose it.
