I trust you

"Now let's take a look at that" Delbert said while leaning Amelia back on the strange tree like vegetation, concern written all over his face. After a very rough landing trying to escape the pirates it was evident Amelia sustained an injury worse than she was claiming she had.

"It's nothing doctor I've already told you it's merely some bruising I'll be fine when we get off of this bloody planet" Despite this statement Amelia couldn't help the groan as a wave of pain wracked through her body, grasping her ribs in an effort to dull the ache.

"Please Amelia. I cannot stand sitting here watching you suffer. Let me help you." Delbert placed a hand on Amelia's shoulder looking at her straight in the eye and watched the inner conflict take place. A defeated sigh escaped her lips.

"Fine. Do what you must. Just do not hang around" Amelia looked out into the surrounding foliage, turning her head so Delbert wouldn't see the blush spreading across her cheeks. Her hand went to instinctively grasp her necklace, as she always did when she was stressed. I shouldn't be doing this. I shouldn't be betraying you like this. At least if I die on this stupid planet, I'll see you again. As Amelia thought to herself, she came to the startling realisation that if she dies then she wouldn't be able to pursue whatever this was that she had with Delbert. Do I want a future with Delbert? More importantly would he want one with me. Maybe I should open my heart up again. The moment we had before Mr Hawkins interrupted was so serene and peaceful and the way he looked at me, like I was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. If I make it off this planet, I'll take the plunge no matter how hard.

Delbert noticed a slight pink tinge on the captains cheeks but put it down to an oncoming fever. Slowly he unbuttoned her jacket and went to slide it off before he noticed her gloves would need to come off first. Cautiously he lifted her arm and slid the glove off, as he lifted her second arm a howl of pain escaped Amelia.

"I'm so sorry. Please Amelia calm your breathing. I really didn't mean it I was just trying to get your glove off and I didn't realise your arm was h-hurt".

"Delbert stop talking. It's alright. I didn't even know I'd hurt my arm until now. There's no point crying over spilt milk" Amelia removed her glove and put a comforting hand on his arm and nodded to him urging him to continue.

He gently leaned Amelia forward to remove her jacket and folded it up next to her. Next, he got to work on her blouses buttons his face tinging red at seeing Amelia in a low-cut tank top.

"I'm going to have to roll up your top. Is that alright?" Amelia nodded at him and looked away. A gasp escaped her lips the moment Delbert touched her skin.

"Sorry. Did, did I hurt you again?" Delbert asked pulling back, acting as if her burnt her.

"No, your hands are cold. Actually, it felt quite nice" Amelia answered smirking slightly. Delbert slowly placed his hands back where they previously were and lightly skimmed up her skin, relishing in how soft it felt under his hands, craving to touch more of her.

"Nothing feels broken, but you may have fractured a couple ribs. We'll get you dressed and make a sling for your arm to keep it in place. I think that is just bruising it doesn't feel dislocated". Without looking in each other's eyes Delbert redressed Amelia, and when they did look at each other they both quickly looked away again.

"I didn't think you had a medical degree Delbert" Amelia said, breaking the silence that had fallen upon them.

"I don't, but I'm one of four siblings and when watching Jim grow up, he had a lot of solar surfing accidents. Sometimes it was easier just treating him at home than taking him to the hospital. I guess it finally came in handy. Although it did help my ex-wife was a nurse, she shared some tips" Delbert answered, chuckling to himself over the memories.

"I'm glad you're here with me. It's hard learning to trust new people. I think I made the right choice choosing to trust you". After this statement Amelia reached out and touched Delbert's hand. As she went to pull away, she felt his fingers close around hers, a soft smile on his face.

"I'm glad you trust me. It-it means a lot". They both started to lean towards each other, Amelia's hand coming to rest on his face. Just as their lips touched a robot jumped out from behind the tall grass straight onto Amelia causing her to fall onto her side and cry out in pain.

"B.E.N get off of her she's hurt". Jim shouted as he came running through the clearing, pulling the robot off of the injured woman.

Delbert rushed forward and slowly eased Amelia back up into a sitting position, brushing strands of her hair out of her face.

"Are you okay?" Delbert asked anger clear in his eyes. Amelia managed a weak nod, whilst leaning on his shoulder trying to get control of her breathing.

"Jim. Explanation. Now." Delbert gently lifted Amelia's head checking her eyes to see if she was still in pain. Noticing there to not be any Delbert looked round to Jim.

"Well. I was out scouting and I ran into B.E.N. He was Captain Flints navigator. He lives here on the planet and has a place we can hide out in. It's not too far. Captain, do you think you can make it"

Gently Amelia raised herself to her feet leaning on the tree behind her. Delbert had his arms outstretched in case she fell. She took a shaky step and found herself in her doctors arms. Without hesitation Delbert picked her up bridal style.

"Lead the way Jim" Delbert said determination in his eyes. Amelia looked up at him in shock.

"Delbert you can't possibly carry me the whole way. I'm too heavy". At this statement Delbert shook his head.

"Amelia, I'm sorry. I know you don't like being told you can't do something. But not only would you walking aggravate your injuries more, but there's no way you would be able to make it. Besides you're not that heavy and you're comfier to carry than what I'm used to". Realising what he said Delbert abruptly stopped talking and let out a sigh of annoyance at what he just said. Amelia let out a breathy laugh.

"I'm glad you find me comfortable in your arms Delbert. Perhaps we should make a habit of it" it was too easy to make the good doctor squirm. As Amelia watched his face turn a few different shades of red she was surprised to see him smile.

"Perhaps we should". Amelia was shocked at his response. As they trekked on into the unknown, Amelia fell into a comfortable slumber, the gentle jostling of Delbert carrying her was strangely comforting, making her feel safe. Before falling completely asleep Amelia had one though. So, this is what complete trust feels like.
