She was rescued by school guardians (assisted by her bond with Rose), but he escaped from sight. Ivan Zeklos died a couple of months ago in a Strigoi attack, but Dimitri was present. Two months after the accident, he was assigned to Lissa. Dimitri's POV

After losing her fiancé Mason in a skiing accident Rose swore that she'd never love again; she didn't want to risk the heartache. After travelling the country for about a year, Rose returns home for the holidays - walls around her heart - and she meets Dimitri Belikov. In between the holiday cheer and festivities, she starts to see that maybe loving again isn't so bad after all. AH
