Yaz was the first one to the console room. She couldn't believe it, it couldn't be that easy. Martha and Mickey looked up at her from the makeshift workbench, and grinned at her.

In his hands, Mickey was holding the blood tracer. He had somehow attached a satnav to the device, and it was flashing. Graham and Ryan came crashing in a few moments later, just in time to see the flashing lights.

'She's not far,' Martha said, handing over the device to Yaz. She looked at the map. A red dot was pulsing, indicating The Doctor's location. She looked closer, scrutinising the dot.

'That's all the way across town. Holbrook Industrial Estate. We've gotta go now! What are we waiting for?' Yaz made to go, but Mickey pointed out the obvious.

'Hold on a sec, we've got to get kitted out first.'

'With what?'

'Protective gear. We're going into battle Yaz. We've got to be prepared.' Yaz hadn't even thought of that.

'Right, yeah, of course. What have you got?'

'Combat gear, some alien tech, trackers, and couple of guns…'

'The Doctor doesn't do…' Ryan began to preach, but Mickey put up a hand to stop him.

'I know, but desperate times, desperate measures.' He paused, clearly seeing the disapproving look on his new friends' faces. 'They're just a precaution. I never use unless absolutely necessary.'

Yaz might have admonished him normally, but he had a point. They didn't know what they were facing. And when it came to The Doctor, she would do literally anything to get her back. That thought should have scared Yaz; but it just didn't.

'Mickey?' Martha piped up. She had been looking down at something on the workbench, and something had dawned on her.

'Yeah babe?' He asked, moving back to her side. He looked confused, trying to work out what she needed.

'The pendant, what does it remind you of?'

'Just a necklace? I don't know.'

'Not the jewellery part, but the teleport part.' She paused, waiting for him to catch up. 'The light, it reminds me of a dimension jump.' Mickey looked at her, realisation dawning on his face.

'You don't think it's from the parallel world, do you?'

'I don't know, I don't think so. But I wonder if the characteristics are similar?' Mickey took it from her hands, scrutinising the pendant closer.

'Yeah, you're right. I reckon it's a similar mechanism. Probably takes time to recharge, before you can use it again. Maybe 20 minutes, given its size.' When it came to teleports, Mickey knew his stuff. He had learned a few things jumping across dimensions, after all.

'But how many people can use it at once?'

'Two, at most, given the size of the teleport. Won't work if more than two people use it.' She moved as if to take it back from him, but he held it back from her slightly.

'Yaz and I could use this, to get to The Doctor quicker, and you and the lads can follow up as back up in the car.'

'But…'

'Babe, Yaz is a police officer and I'm the hacker, we're the perfect combo.' He looked over, winked at Yaz, and grinned back at his wife. 'Besides, it's my turn to get in on the action.' Martha huffed affectionately, and then said.

'Okay, fine, let's get you ready.'

Once they were all kitted up (Yaz was impressed with how much tech the couple actually had), they were ready to go. Mickey was holding the pendant in his hands, and he gestured to Yaz to take his arm. She did so gladly.

'So, just one more time. You and Yaz are going to track the Doctor, get her out, and find somewhere safe to hide. We will follow up as back up. Once the teleport is recharged, whoever is closest to The Doctor will teleport back to the TARDIS with her. The other will find their way to the car, and we will get away quickly.' Martha paused, clearly not happy with the plan. But what choice did they have? She glanced at Yaz.

'Are you sure you want to do this? I can go instead, you hit your head quite hard…'

'Nope, it'll be fine. Besides, I've got local knowledge. I know the estate, especially as I've been around there a few times on shift.'

Martha smiled at her almost-mentee.

'Yeah, I know you will.' She paused, before leaning up to Mickey and pecking him on the lips. 'Take care, you. Need you back in one piece, yeah?'

Mickey grinned at her.

'Likewise babe, likewise.'

With one last look at Graham and Ryan, Yaz raised her hand in a small wave. They looked nervous for her. She knew Graham wasn't happy about her going onto the line of duty, but out of the three of them, she was the most qualified in this arena. They waved back, smiling encouragingly, their eyes betraying their fear. Mickey turned to Yaz, anticipating their next move.

'Ready?' He asked her. She nodded back at him.

'Ready,' she affirmed more confidently than she felt. She pictured The Doctor; bright, intense and shining. She imagined her smiling, bathing Yaz in a sense of sudden calm. We're coming to get you, Doctor.

With that, Mickey activated the locket and they were bathed in blue light, transporting them all the way across Sheffield.

Mickey and Yaz landed outside of a warehouse, the darkness luckily shrouding them in secrecy. Feeling the similar dizziness of teleportation, Yaz couldn't help but stumble a little.

On instinct, Mickey grabbed Yaz by the arm and pulled her forcefully against the side of the building with him. She was about to exclaim at the pain, but he shushed her. Catching on, Yaz kept quiet, pushing herself back into the shadows of the warehouse as much as possible. She had to trust Mickey's instincts on this.

Sure enough, two guards appeared from around the corner of the building, patrolling the area with heavy guns. Mickey and Yaz waited with baited breath. Looks like this was going to be harder than they'd originally thought.

Yaz looked at Mickey anxiously, but his gaze was fixed firmly on the guards. Yaz's heart accelerated. They were so close, the mission couldn't fail now!

Yaz couldn't tell if Mickey was going to pounce, or if he was going to wait it out. Her own instincts were screaming at her to stay put, wait for them to pass. But again, Mickey had seen more combat than her, and she knew to defer to him on this. Luckily, his instincts aligned with hers.

The guards moved out of sight fairly quickly. This was a good sign; they hadn't been seen. After a few moments, Mickey turned to Yaz and let out a sigh of relief.

'That was a close one.'

'Good thing you pushed us back,' Yaz whispered in return. Mickey glanced at the blood tracer map (scanner? Yaz wasn't sure what to call it).

'Just the smartest thing to do, but I could hear footsteps so had to be quick.' He paused, taking in the tracer's readings. 'Okay, so you see the blinking point? That's The Doctor, right there. It looks like we're pretty close…'

Yaz glanced down at the tracer, and could see the blinking light. Wow, Mickey was right. The Doctor was really close. Precisely, she appeared to be about 50ft away. Yaz glanced up, into the direction the tracer was indicating. Sure enough, ahead of them were several mechanical huts, all only a few metres wide and tall.

'That's great! Let's go get her!'

'Hang on, Yaz, something feels off…'

'What?' Yaz whispered impatiently. They were running out of time, what was Mickey playing at?

They both peered into the darkness. The mechanical huts appeared to be dormant. Yaz squinted, and just beyond them, she could see a fleet yard of looked back down at the scanner. It blinked back at her, knowingly.

'She's in one of those vans,' Yaz announced quickly. Mickey squinted down at the screen, then looked back at the fleet.

'Spot on, that's where we've gotta head.' Yaz was about to head off, when Mickey stopped her.

'Wait a sec.' She turned back to him expectantly. He reached out to her and handed her the teleport. 'Here, you better take it.'

'You sure?' She asked, hesitantly. She didn't want to leave Mickey without an escape method.

'Yeah, The Doctor knows you. Should you get to her first, its better you get her out.'

'She knows you too!' Yaz whispered hurriedly. The Doctor never forgot a face. Mickey smiled wistfully.

'It's alright Yaz, no need to sugarcoat it. Let's just get in, get out, and get her back.' Normally Yaz would want to interrogate him further, but he was right; they had a mission.

Together, they looked at the tracer to determine which van to aim for. After a couple of seconds, Mickey worked it out.

'Okay, it's that one,' he whispered, pointing to the one slightly to the left of the hut in front of them.'

'You're sure?'

'Definite.' Mickey paused, listening again. He tentatively looked around the corner, checking for enemies. 'When I count down to three, you head to the left, and I'll head to the right. We cover our bases on each side of the van, get in and drive it away. We'll get the Doctor out once we're a safe distance away.'

'But we don't have a key?!'

'I'll hotwire it. Now on my count, run. 3,2,1, go!'

Yaz had no choice but to run.

She sprinted away from the safety of cover, and into the shadowy comfort of the mechanical hut in front of her. She didn't turn to see if Mickey had made the first hurdle, but she could hear him to the side of her. The wind rushed past her face, as she hurtled into the shadows. She'd had to run from the previous hut to this one, and now she had to make it to the van.

She didn't stop to catch her breath. Mickey had said run, so she did so. The van was directly in front of her now. Her heart leapt into her throat. The Doctor was in there, and she was about to break her out. That thought alone kept her going.

Yaz made it to the van, just before Mickey. Relief overtook her. She put a quick hand on the van, knowing The Doctor was in there. She mentally sent The Doctor a message, hoping she could somehow hear her.

'I'm here.'

Yaz would have said more, when she suddenly heard yelling. The guards!

She shrunk behind the van, keeping low, and headed towards the passenger's side. She had no idea if Mickey was the other side, but she kept going with the plan. She climbed quietly onto the side of the van, holding onto the side mirror to pull herself up. She was about to pop her head up into the window when she heard gunfire come from the other side. Mickey!

As if on cue, she heard him yell out. At least he was alive.

The driver's side door suddenly slammed shut and the van rumbled into life. Shit, they were about to move!

Yaz kept her head down, clinging onto the side of the van as it began to speed away from the fleet yard. The wheels squeaked as they sped away and onto the road leading out of the estate. Question is, was it Mickey driving them to safety, or another guard taking them to a worse place?

Yaz answered her own question as she looked back. The van turned the corner, and she now had full view of Mickey taking on the guards left behind. He looked a bit preoccupied, with three on one battling it out.

So, Yaz was on her own. Great.

Nope, that's not quite right. She's with The Doctor. Even if she isn't aware, this is the closest they've been since The Doctor's disappearance. Summoning her inner strength, Yaz began to think.

Should she cling on, until the van reached its destination and then strike? Or should she stop the van right now, but with more guards that could pounce at any moment?

The advantage she had was that back up was on it's way in the form of Martha and the boys, but who knew when they would get here? She also had the advantage of local intel. She knew this estate fairly well – enough to be able to hide The Doctor if she could free her until the others arrived.

Problem was, the van was already reaching 40 miles per hour, and was headed towards the exit to head onto the motorway. There was no way Yaz would be able to hold on at 70 miles per hour. She made her decision.

Carefully reaching for her handgun, she pulled it out of her waistband and held it in her right hand. She quickly pushed herself up, allowing the driver to see her. He didn't see her at first, but as soon as she brought up the gun to the window, he jolted in fear. The van swerved as he cried out.

'Let her go!' Yaz screamed at him through the window, hand shaking as the gun pointed at the driver. Panic emanated from his eyes, and that almost made Yaz pause. But The Doctor's life was on the line. Nothing was more important than that.

Unfortunately for Yaz, her moment of surprise wasn't enough to make him stop. Instead, he panicked further. He twisted the wheel sharply to the right, causing the van to spin violently. Yaz couldn't hold on at that speed.

She was flung from the van. She screamed, the air ripped from her lungs as she hit the ground hard.

Yaz felt everything at once and then not at all. She fell on her right arm, and heard it snap under her. Her body skidded several metres, before coming to a stop.

The van screeched, as the driver manically steered it in to the direction he had just come from. He'd done so much of a 180 that in his panic, it was the only way to go.

Despite the concussion, scraped limbs and questionable arm, Yaz didn't falter. She coughed, blood worryingly seeping from her mouth, but she didn't stop. Her desperation to save The Doctor drove her forward.

She dragged herself up, hobbling in an attempt to run after the van. Picking up the gun in her left hand, she began to shoot at the wheels of the van. If she could stop it in its tracks, Mickey could then get to The Doctor. He could at least protect her.

Her efforts were fruitless. The van sped off onto the other side of the estate, turning a corner and going left. The van was out of sight, but she could still hear it. Her heart plummeted, knowing that she'd failed.

Except, local intel may just save them. As she stood there, bashed, broken and bleeding, she remembered something the van driver hadn't in his panic. The exit he was presumably aiming for was closed. The only exit was the original one he had been aiming for – the one he would have to pass her for.

Yaz grinned. This wasn't over.
