J. K. Rowling owns absolutely everything, I am just writing the story.
Chapter 3
Three days had passed with no change in Hermione's condition. She did not have any sign that she had been in any sort of accident, which was strange to say the least. Over the last few days Severus had eyed her warily as she slept. He had spent the last few nights perched in the chair by her bed watching over her for reasons that escaped him. He usually crept in late at night so that only Madam Pomfrey saw him with the girl. He knew Madam Pomfrey would not tell a soul. Poppy did not shy away from berating him about the bad habit he was developing of sleeping in a chair every night, the little sleep he got that is. He could not help but be drawn to the place for every night when he tried to resist the temptation to travel to the hospital wing that horrible feeling that something just wasn't quite right came back to plague him so he just gave into it.
On the third night as he settles into his chair for another long night Poppy approached him
"Severus, I know you have taken quite a liking to sleeping in that uncomfortable chair every night to watch over the girl so I feel as if there is something you must know"
Snape eyed her sceptically, not liking the insinuation that he cared for the girl but desperately wanting to know what it was Poppy was about to reveal to him.
"I have been quite curious as to why despite the extent of her injuries Ms. Granger does not have any scaring or redness at all on her body"
Severus sat up to attention now as he too had been very curious as to what was going on with the girl laying in the hospital bed.
"So, I started to cast some charms on her to see what was going on and…."
"Yes, Poppy go on I don't have all day!"
It made his heart ache to speak to such a kind woman in such a way, but he had to do it.
"Well it would appear as if Ms. Granger here had been experimenting with her charms as she has managed to cast a glamour charm on herself so strong and so different to a regular glamour charm that not even I am able to break it, so I was hoping that you might be willing to give it a try."
"And why on earth would I do that Poppy?"
"Severus Snape don't think for one second I have not seen the way you have been watching over this young woman every night since she landed here without fail. You can lie to yourself, but you cannot lie to me and what I can so clearly see. She is your student and Gryffindor she may be, but it is obvious that you care about her in some way shape or form. So please Severus all I ask is that you try."
Severus grumbled something under his breath which sounded an awful lot like "horrid witch", but Madam Pomfrey just rolled her eyes.
Severus stood up and pulled his wand out from his pitch-black robes and proceeded to wave it over Hermione's body. Poppy was right this charm was very powerful, like nothing he had every seen before. He knew Ms. Granger was intelligent and excelled in all her classes, but he did not know just how powerful her magic really was. He could feel it pulsing through her body fighting against him as he tried to remove it. Sweat was dripping down his face as he strained against Hermione's charm. Eventually the charm pushed back so much he was forced to give up and collapse back into the chair he was sleeping in the past few nights.
Madam Pomfrey ran to her office and got a bottle of pepper-up potion to try and replenish Snapes energy. Snape accepted it and drank it all in one feeling utterly drained. He looked over at the young woman on the bed with utter confusion written all over his face.
"Poppy I will return tomorrow night to try again but for now I will retire to my chambers and attempt to rest."
"Thank you for trying Severus I will see you tomorrow, goodnight"
Snape nodded to Poppy and swept out of the infirmary robes billowing behind him as usual. It was around midnight, but he knew the late hour would not dissuade the headmaster one bit.
He walked up to the headmaster's stone pets and whispered the password. They moved out of the way and revealed the staircase. He pushed the door open and entered Dumbledore's office.
"Ah Severus my boy, what brings you here at this hour, you don't happen to know what that very strong magic I just felt do you?"
"Yes, I do. You are aware of the incident involving Ms. Granger a few days ago yes?"
"Of course, Severus"
"Well Albus it would appear as if Ms. Granger has been able to cast a very advanced glamour charm that I just tried to remove but failed hence the strong magical signature you just felt."
"Well well, she is a formidable force indeed which will be very helpful in her aiding Harry"
"Is that really all you can think about Albus? Harry-Bloody-Potter. Not everything revolves around him. What about Ms. Granger are you not even curious as to what she could be hiding under that glamour charm?"
"Well of course I'm curious Severus and concerned too but as you know Harry is the most important thing right now."
Severus rolled his eyes.
"Yes of course nothing else matters. Can you help me or not Albus? I would very much like to be finished here."
Dumbledore called a very ancient book into his hands and gave it to Snape
"You should find your answers in here."
"Thank you Albus"
And with that he stormed back to his rooms for a long night of research.
