Chapter 57: A day to remember

For some reason when they woke up this morning, they thought that it would be a good day to do some training. Maybe, go out on a date after they finished their training at the new fancy restaurants that opened in district 5. Heck, even when they heard the door open up to show her coming in, they didn't think anything was wrong. But when they said that Ino had claimed a room and spent the night, that's when they felt that the day was about to go bad. At least for Ino

"Mind telling me what you mean about you claiming a room here?"

Ino and Naruto were in a seiza sitting position as they kept their head low as they were reprimanded by an irritated Hyuga. They could feel the gaze on them as if they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar…well more Ino than Naruto

Ino looked up to see the dark look of Hinata and gulped 'where did this come from? Hinata has never acted like this before!' Ino thought about what could have caused this and she soon came to a realization. 'She became like this when I said I stayed the night in my newly claimed room…...oh I see'

Naruto looked up at Hinata as she continued to look at Ino "Hinata-chan, let's just calm down and talk about this…."

"Be quiet Naruto."

"Yes ma'am." squeaked out Naruto. It didn't even register to him that she had not used a suffix. He just felt unable to handle Hinata as she was right now

"Lion unleashed."

'Not helping Tou-chan.'

Ino could not help but giggle at this. 'We both have power over him. At least we know who will really be in charge in this relationship. Females have the power!'

"Well, Ino?"

Ino looked back to Hinata to see that she had crossed her arms and was looking at her expectantly. Even seeing this Ino could not help but smile. "It's like I said, I claimed one of the guestrooms as my own and slept here for the night."

"And what made you think that you could do that?"

Ino, ever the bold one, just moved over and wrapped her arms around Naruto "well he didn't try to stop me. He even said he expected this so why couldn't I claim one to be mine. This is now my home away from home."

Hinata turned her gaze to Naruto causing the boy to feel a little nervous "is this true Naruto?"

Before Naruto could say anything Ino cut in

"What's the problem Hinata? You can do the same thing, you know." she then let go of Naruto and sauntered over to Hinata "or is there a reason your upset about what I said

Hinata blushed at what Ino said as she tried to say something "well...I…" Hinata felt her resolve drop by the second until she felt Ino come up from behind her and wrap her arms around her waist

"Is it because you were jealous of me getting to move in first?"

"I um…."

"Aw that's the reason...you wanted to be the first to move in with Naruto, right?"

Hinata could not stop her blush from showing as her face became red and she lowered her head so her bangs hid her eyes. After a few seconds of silence, Hinata gently nodded her head because she wanted to be the one to move in with Naruto first but she was beaten to the punch by Ino. "I...I w-wanted t-to be the first."

Ino smiled at Hinata's admittance. "I'm not trying to steal him for myself. The three of us are staying together. Nothing is going to separate us." she then surprised the Hyuga girl as she pressed her lips on her cheek. "Remember Hinata that I care about you as well. I know that the feelings you and I have for each other are nothing compared to how we feel about our favorite blonde. But I do care about you. I wasn't doing this to get more time with him, it was kinda just a spur of the moment. Please forgive me?"

Hinata felt her heart skip a beat when she felt the kiss on her cheek but she nodded as she wasn't truly made at Ino. she just felt a little jealous.

Naruto watched his two girls and thought about what Ino said. 'Nothing will separate us…..yeah.' he then thought about something he wanted to do. "Hey, you two!"

Both Hinata and Ino looked up at Naruto as he got up and walked to them

Once he was directly in front of them he smiled "what do you say we gather everyone and have the time of our lives?"

Ino and Hinata looked at each other before looking to Naruto with smiles on their faces. They nodded as they really liked the idea.

~Later~

The three had met up with everyone together and they all agreed to join them for a free day. They all then spent the day doing things each rookie enjoyed.

~Lee~

Lee's enjoyable hobby was simple: training.

Everyone but one had agreed to this, so all but Lee and Naruto were watching the two spar.

Naruto had spent a lot of the spar on the defensive since Lee was the more proficient in taijutsu.

Lee sent a kick into Naruto's chest, sending the blonde skidding the ground before coming to a stop. Lee stood in his stance waiting for Naruto to get back up and come at him

Naruto wiped his chin as a speck of blood fell down. 'How the hell do I still have blood? Didn't I lose my heart?'

"It's not blood. It's just chakra that looks like blood. It's chakra that you lose due to injury and due to it being a dark color and heavy, it comes out as a sort of liquid."

Naruto looked at the liquid that he had on his hand and noticed that it was more a purplish red rather than just red. If Kurama didn't tell him what it was, he would have just thought it was blood. He licked it up as he thought that he might regain the minuscule amount of chakra. Getting up he looked at Lee with a grin. "Nice one Lee. but don't think I'm done yet."

Lee grinned at Naruto "yes Naruto. Show me your youth!"

Both charged at each other and threw a punch at each other only for their fists to meet each other creating a small shockwave

Everyone watched the two fight as they couldn't help but think that Naruto has made big leaps and bounds since the academy days.

Neji who was leaning on a tree, watching, could not help but make a comment "he is holding back."

Everyone looked at the Hyuga boy with Shikamaru asking "what do you mean? Isn't it obvious that they are holding back since they have their weights on."

Neji shook his head "no, I mean that Naruto-san is holding back much more than Lee is. Yes, Lee has his weights on but Naruto looks to be pulling back his strength before his attack makes contact. It looks like he is straining when he attacks. Much different from someone who uses their strength at full."

Shikamaru nodded as he watched the fight continue and he did notice that what Neji said was true. "Troublesome."

Ino sat in awe "I need to train more if I wanna catch up with him."

Kiba grumbled to himself as he watched. He didn't want to admit it but he knew that Naruto and Lee were beyond his skill level. Sure he might be able to put up a fight against the two in a taijutsu fight but if they pulled out heavier stuff than he would lose straight up. "damn. I need more training."

*Arf*

Everyone else couldn't help but nod since Lee was a taijutsu specialist. Naruto may not be a taijutsu specialist but the skill they see in his style and what they had seen in the Chunin exams as well as the retrieval mission, they knew that he was leaps ahead of all of them. They were all good but he was the powerhouse of the group. Especially since he doesn't ever seem to tire.

Naruto jumped up and was now in a handstand on Lee's shoulders before he let his body fall behind Lee and using his grip on the green-clad shinobi' shoulders, he had Lee spinning in the air after throwing him away.

Tenten sighed "Naruto! Don't turn this into an actual fight!"

"Sorry, Tenten!"

~Kiba~

"Why are we here again?!" Sakura asked as she looked at the ones surrounding her.

Kiba smiled at the pinkette. "Hey, blame Naruto. He's the one saying we should all do something we each like."

Sakura glared at Naruto who had his foxy smile "I'll get you back for this….aaaahhh hahahahah stop that tickles." she found herself being tackled by a group of puppies that began to lick her face

Each of the rookies were playing with the canines of the Inuzuka compound.

Tsume and Hana watched as the younger generation had some fun with their pups.

Tsume looked to Naruto, who was having a staring contest with one of the older canines before the blonde lost because the canine jumped on top of him and began to lick him. "Pup knows how to bring smiles."

Hana nodded "it's kind of his thing. He has had a rough childhood, I guess this is why he tries to put smiles on his friends' faces."

Tsume looked at Hana with a quirked brow "since when did you get psychological?"

Hana shrugged her shoulders "it's just something that I've seen him do a lot. I just think he subconsciously wants people to have better lives than he has had when he was younger."

"Pups a good kid."

"Yeah...he is."

~Haku and Sakura~

"AAH!" Kiba fell to the ground and felt his nose hit the ground hard

"Told you I'd get you back."

Kiba looked up to see Sakura and Haku skate dancing away as Sakura had a cocky smile on her face. "Damn it!" he then felt the weight on his head

*arf!*

"Oh shut up! I've never been Ice skating before!"

Haku and Sakura had led the group to the lake that they had their date at as Haku did the same as he did before. He froze the lake and they all began to Ice skate with skates made of Ice.

Naruto skated around as best he could as it was similar to his water gliding but a little more slippery.

Karin skated next to him as she smirked at her cousin "so how goes your Kekkei Genkai training?"

"Not bad. Still trying to make it last longer but I'm getting there."

"Well, you did activate it much later than usual Uzumaki do."

"Meh, it's fine. It's fun to try and get it to work anyway."

"Coming through!"

Both Karin and Naruto looked back and moved in time to avoid getting bulldozed by Ino and Sakura as the two seemed to be in a competition.

Haku came up next to them as he made sure they were ok "are you two alright?"

Karin glared at the two competing females as she growled out "just fine!"

Naruto looked to Haku and asked, "what are they competing for anyway?"

Haku smiled as he looked to Sakura and Ini "something about 'like they used to before'."

Naruto nodded his head as he smiled

~Shino~

Everyone was in the forest, gathering insects for Shino's collection. He had wanted to gather a few more specimens to have and observe so he asked if everyone could help him out in this.

There were two who did not join them, however.

Ino sat outside the forest everyone went into with her arms holding her legs and her head on her knees.

"Come one, don't feel bad about it."

Ino looked to her right, to look at the smiling face of Naruto. "How can I not. This was supposed to be a day where we all hang out and do one thing everyone likes to do but …."

"You still can't handle swarms of things."

Ino nodded her head. "Not only that but you chose to stay with me."

Naruto bumped her shoulder with his "don't forget that Hinata-chan asked to do the same."

Ino sighed "yeah...but you convinced her that she should help out her teammate with this while you still stayed behind. Kinda feels like you spend more time with me than you do with her."

Naruto rubbed the back of his head "actually I kinda spend more time with her than I do with you."

"What do you mean?"

"When we weren't talking with each other…."

Ino couldn't help but flinch a bit at that

"Hinata and I spent a lot of time together. We trained together, we went to eat together, we messed with Hanabi-chan together."

Ino couldn't help but snort at that.

"Overall I spent a lot of time with Hinata and no time with you. You could say that I'm trying to make it up. I missed you during that time Ino and it hurt me."

Ino felt bad now "I know I hurt you…"

"No not that. I mean yeah it hurt when we had that fight but it hurt me more when I stayed away from you. I wanted to go up and say sorry to you but I figured that you never wanted to talk to me again."

Ino smiled as she tipped herself to the side so she leaned on Naruto "you dork. I said that out of stupid anger and when I got home after that I cried. I realized what I did, for what reason and I wanted to slap myself for causing that fight. I wanted to say sorry but I thought you wouldn't want to talk to me since I was such a bitch to you."

Naruto rolled his eyes at that last bit "oh please Ino. you've seen the crap I go through."

Ino slapped his chest "I know that now. But I didn't back then."

"Fair enough."

Their conversation ended when they saw the other rookies coming out of the forest. Both got to their feet as they moved to meet up with them.

Naruto spoke up when they were close enough "so how'd it go?"

Shino brought up several insect boxes that showed several different kinds of insects. "We found many for me to use. Hinata was a big help during our search."

Kiba smiled "yeah! She was able to see them with her Byakugan."

Neji nodded "most impressive to be able to see these tiny insects with her eyes."

Hinata blushed at the praise "...thank you."

Naruto smiled as he moved to Naruto and wrapped his arm around her. "Come on Hinata. It's ok. They're just saying how awesome you are."

Hinata blushed even more as she shrunk a bit more and nodded

~Shikamaru~

Everyone was at the park, laying on the ground, looking up in the sky and relaxing. They were all really enjoying this moment as they soon got an idea as to why Shikamaru did this.

Kiba, however, was grumbling quietly to himself as he turned his head to look at the sight.

Naruto was lying on the ground with Hinata and Ino in his arms. With Ino being on his left and Hinata on his right.

Kiba turned the other way to see Sakura with her head on Haku's chest with a happy smile on her face. He turned his head to look at the sky as he grumbled "man why can't I get a girl to snuggle with me?"

"You mean like that Suna girl you keep hanging out with every time she comes to the village?"

Kiba sat upright and glared at Tenten who had a smirk on her face "no way! Why would I want her to snuggle up with me?!"

"Cause you like her duh."

"I do not!"

*grr arf!*

"I don't need you agreeing with her!" he laid back down and glared at the sky 'I don't want her to snuggle up with me. I can get any other girl I want!' his mind however started to imagine Temari with her head on his chest looking up at the sky with him. He could not help the blush from forming on his face and a small smile appearing.

Shikamaru sighed at all this "troublesome."

~Choji~

Choji's activity was something they all could agree on since it was time to eat. Go to an all you can eat buffet

They all sat at a large table with their helping of food, talking about random things from old missions they went to training methods.

Naruto looked at Tenten, Neji, and Karin "so what do you guys want to do after this?" he asked as he took a bite out of his pork since he already finished his ramen.

Tenten took a bite out of a rice ball and swallowed before she answered, "my thing is simple so we can do it right after this."

Neji took a bite of some grilled fish as he gave his answer "I am content with what we have done today. No need to concern yourself with me."

Karin took a swig of soda before she took a bite out of her okonomiyaki "I'm actually enjoying my time off from the hospital so I'm good."

Tenten then looked to Naruto "hey Naruto, I've been meaning to ask. I heard that during the retrieval mission you did some sort of water skating move…"

"I call it 'water gliding' but 'skating' works too." he took a bite out of his food and enjoyed the taste of it

"Anyway, I wanted to know how you did it?"

Everyone looked to Naruto since they were all interested in knowing how it was done.

Naruto swallowed his food before he began to explain "well it's kind of like getting the Water walking right while getting the tree walking wrong."

"...huh!?"

"You know when you do tree walking and if you put too much chakra in your feet and it launches you off the tree?" seeing everyone nod he continued "well I wanted to see if the same is done with water walking. So I tried it out. Although it threw me into the air a bit it also made a large splash. After I did that I started to think 'what would happen if I put that at the back of my feet. Would I fly forward? So I tried it out and it kind of did. Threw me forward and into the water but it gave me the idea of using it to move fast on the water. I then practiced channeling chakra to my heels and keeping my feet planted on the water and soon it became water gliding."

Everyone was impressed with how he came up with a way to move quickly on the water.

Tenten gave an impressed whistle "I've got to try that. Your chakra control exercise also sounds pretty useful."

"Thanks. It also helps that I have a water affinity."

Kiba looked thoughtful at that last bit "damn. I gotta learn my affinity too. Could prove useful."

Ino nodded in agreement "it would help us in getting stronger."

Everyone nodded before they continued their meal

~Tenten~

Naruto would never admit fear of anything. He was an awesome shinobi that had faced many enemies that a normal genin should never face. So he was definitely not afraid right now

"How can you be afraid of something like this?"

Naruto looked over the shoulder of the person he was hiding be….person he was using for cover to pounce on any enemy. "I'm not afraid Ino. I'm...just having Hinata cover me."

Ino shook her head at the childish behavior the boy had or the paranormal. They were at the moment in a shop that sold paranormal items. She was surprised to see that Tenten had an interest in these sorts of things. But to each their own. She was looking through a shelf that had a few things that seemed interesting but she had no clue as to what they do. 'Why would someone need a shrunken hand anyway….that isn't real right?' she went to poke it but she shrieked a bit when the hand moved to grab her finger

Choji came up next to her as he asked "what's up Ino?"

Ino just pointed to the hand "it's alive."

Choji saw what Ino was looking at and laughed a bit "oh come on Ino." he moved closer to it as he reached out for it "it's nothing more than a prop…AAAAAHHHH" Choji began to scream when the hand grabbed his and wouldn't let go

Naruto hid behind Hinata as she looked around the shop.

"Naruto-kun, you don't need to be so afraid of these things. They won't harm you."

"I'm not afraid…..I just….want to be prepared…"

Unknown to Naruto and Hinata, Kiba was sneaking up behind them with a skeleton hand in his grasp. Once he was close enough, he placed the skeleton hand on Naruto's shoulder

Naruto turned his head to see what landed on his shoulder but the second he did, he lost all color in his face and sweat poured down his face. "Hi-hi-hi-hi-hin-hina…"

The skeleton hand moved

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Naruto ran ou tof the shop with hinata chasing after him and Kiba on the groud laughing

All the while Tenten moved to the cashier, who was an elderly woman who looked the part of the witch "I'll be buying these tarot cards."

"Ah, Tenten. Good to see you here and with many of your friends."

Tenten looked behind her as she saw them do their own thing in the shop. Looking back she shrugged "some of them might become normals here."

The elderly woman nodded as she brought up the price of the cards and completing the transaction

~Ino~

Most of the rookies were surprised to see what Ino had chosen for her activity. Most of them had assumed that it would be a shopping spree, which Kiba grumbled out which got him a nice welt on his head for his troubles.

Ino's activity was…..

Ino had finished her song "U can do it". Many of them were surprised that the girl could sing since none of them had ever heard her sing before.

Everyone had a turn, with a few flops and a few decent sessions but they all had fun doing it. With Sakura and Haku doing a duet, which surprised the rest

The only ones left were Naruto and Hinata

Ino looked at the two before tossing it to Naruto. "Come on Naruto you're up."

Naruto looked at the mic in his hand while rubbing the back of his head "I don't know Ino. Should I?"

Kiba snorted as he said "can he even sing? He doesn't sound like he has the voice for singing."

Ino promptly knocked him in the head

"Ow!"

Ino glared at Kiba before looking at Naruto "come on. You know you sound good."

"That's because I cheat."

Ino got in front of him and did the dreaded Puppy-eyes no jutsu "ple~ase."

Naruto sighed at this "alright, alright just stop that jutsu. It's not fair."

Ino fist-pumped at this "yes!" before she sat down in between Shikamaru and Hinata while watching Naruto go up to the machine to make his musical selection

Shikamaru leaned over to whisper to Ino "can he really sing? I don't want to sound rude but he really doesn't have the voice for singing."

Ino smiled "he actually has a nice singing voice but for songs that he can't do with his own, he uses a jutsu to compensate."

"Really?"

Naruto made his selection and moved to the spot so he could be seen. "Oh boy." he heard the music start and brought the mic to his mouth and waited for his cue. Taking a deep breath he began

Everyone was stunned at how good Naruto was singing and sat in awe as he continued

The music stopped and Naruto looked to the others to see their stunned expressions, except for Ino who was smiling wide at his performance

Sakura broke out of her awe as she spoke in a bit of a stutter "s-since when c-can you s-sing?"

Naruto dispelled his clones as he shrugged his shoulders "I was bored one day in the academy and heard someone singing in a small karaoke bar once. I tried it out and found it fun. Ever since then I would sing on occasion and found a way to use my henge to change my voice. Ino caught me singing in the park once when no one was around and got me to sing more but I still kept it to myself."

Tenten was impressed by this little tidbit "wow, you're just full of surprises."

Naruto smiled at this "I try." he then moved over to Hinata "your turn."

Hinata looked at the mic and immediately shook her head "Oh n-no I can't."

Naruto lowered himself so he could be eye level with her "come on. It's just us here. You don't need to be afraid Hinata."

Ino got up and gently grabbed the Hyuga girl's hand. "Come on." she pulled the girl to her feet and led her to the machine while also grabbing the mic from Naruto's hand.

Hinata looked back to see Naruto giving her an encouraging smile and she felt a little more courageous from this. Steeling her nerves she looked for a song she knew and would be able to sing. She found one and gently took the mic from Ino. she moved to stand in the same spot that the rest took and took a breath before she began with the music

Ino could see that Hinata was extremely nervous and just singing that first part had taken all her courage. On impulse, Ino grabbed the second mic, moved to stand next to Hinata, and joined her.

Both girls stopped and enjoyed this little bit of music. Hinata though, was in her own little world as she enjoyed singing in front of her friend but more than anything: she loved singing in front of Naruto

The two ended their performance smiling, panting, and hyped.

everyone clapped at the two as they were in awe at how well they did

Both Ino and Hinata felt happy with the praise but their eyes landed on Naruto who had the biggest smile on his face before he gave them a thumbs up

It was the end of the day and every one of the rookies had enjoyed the day doing something they wanted. Unfortunately, it was time for everyone to go off on their own.

However, Naruto found himself in the company of his two girls as they made their way to his compound.

Hinata had chosen to sleep over at his place since Ino had chosen that she still did not want to go home yet. She gave Neji a message to give to her family before they left.

They had arrived at the compound and Ino had taken Hinata to the guest rooms so that the Hyuga girl could stake her claim on one of them.

Hinata had chosen the one just across from Ino's so they were both about the same distance away from Naruto's room.

Naruto felt a bit nervous having the two he cared for the most in the same house as him but his mind suddenly became serious as he remembered his reason for the day's events. It was late at night and he couldn't sleep at all. He had tried to get comfortable in both the bed and his pile of pillows but no matter what he just couldn't sleep. He thought back to what he had discussed with the Hokage the previous night

~Flashback~

"The Akatsuki are getting ready to move."

Naruto looked to Jiraiya as he spoke to him.

"Our informant has told us that they are still after their funds but in about a year and a half, they will start moving. We don't know when they will come after you since we don't know if they will be going in order or not but your life will be at risk at that time."

"So….they will be coming around that time."

Tsunade steepled her fingers as she sighed "we assume this. Our informant's information is extremely reliable but there is always the unknown factor that could make it so they move out faster or slower."

Naruto thought about this as he understood the fact that the Akatsuki are almost ready and he along with the other Jinchuuriki are soon to be in danger. "So…..what do we do?"

~flashback end~

Naruto stood under his Sakura tree while looking up through the breaks in the sakura petals at the moon. He wasn't able to sleep with the Akatsuki on his mind. A group of S-rank shinobi after him and the other eight jinchuuriki. "What are we even supposed to do when they come after us?"

"Naruto?"

"Naruto-kun?"

Naruto turned around to see Ino and Hinata walking up to him while rubbing their eyes to wake up a bit

"Shouldn't you two be asleep? It's like 3 AM."

Ino walked close to him as she finally got out of her sleepy state "We would have been asleep if it wasn't for you standing here. I got up to get something to drink and saw you standing here. I want to get Hinata cause I get the feeling we both need to be here" Once she was a few feet away she looked into his eyes "what's up?"

Naruto sighed as he moved to the swing that was still up from when Asa was staying over and sat down. "It's fine you two…..." he began to swing a bit as both girls took a step to the side to avoid getting hit. "It's something that you don't need to worry about."

Ino watched as Naruto went back and forth on the swing. She couldn't help but remember the very first thing she ever said to him "you know if you go too high you might fall and hurt yourself."

Naruto couldn't help but smile when he heard this as it was the first time they ever said that line. "That was kind of random don't you think?"

Ino shrugged as she moved to sit against the tree "felt right to say when I saw you swinging. It just brought back memories."

"...yeah it kinda does."

There was now a comfortable silence with the only thing being heard was the tightening of the ropes as Naruto continued

Hinata knowing that something was off looked at the swinging boy "Naruto-kun…..what's wrong?"

"Why do you think something is wrong?"

Hinata gained a serious look as she spoke "back during the academy, every time something sad has happened to you, you would sit on the swing and just watch everything around you as if nothing matters. When you swing on that swing, you usually have something serious on your mind and you do this to try and focus on the problem."

Naruto slowly came to a stop before sighed and got up. He took a few steps forward and looked up at the moon through the petals "I was told that a group of people are after me and I have about a year and a half until they start coming for me."

"Who's coming after you." Ino didn't even bother trying to hide the concern in her voice

"A group of S-rank rouge shinobi from every village. They want what I have inside of me." he placed his hand on his stomach despite the fact that the seal no longer exists

"Why?"

"Don't know."

Both girls moved to stand next to him and looked at the moon as well.

Hinata looked to Naruto with a look of sadness. "There was another reason you wanted to be with everyone today, wasn't there?"

Ino looked shocked at hearing this and gave Naruto an incredulous look "and what would that be?"

Naruto lowered his head as he tried to find a way to tell them what he has on his mind

Both girls hugged the boy as Ino spoke "come on Naruto. Tell us."

'Here it goes.' he took a deep breath as he said "...I'm leaving…."

Hope you readers enjoyed the bit with the rookies as I thought it was fun to do. The singing bit was something that I just felt like putting in. don't know if any of them could really sing but I made it so Ino, Hinata, and Naruto could sing
