It was a sunny afternoon in Ontario. Dongwa was planning to visit Yeh-Yeh and Nai-Nai
"Gosh, I can't wait to visit Yeh-Yeh! I wonder what he's doing!" He said happily.
He left his room, but when he passed Sagwa's room, he heard his sister crying her eyes out. He turned to Sagwa's room in concern.
"Huh…? What's going on with Sagwa…?" he thought.
He slowly approached Sagwa's room and opened the door. He found her lying face down in her bed sobbing. Her pillow was stained in tears. Dongwa gasped and rushed over to her
"Sagwa, what happened?!" he asked.
Sagwa lifted her face which was stained in tears. Her nose was also running because she was crying so much. She wiped whatever she could off her face.
"It's… It's Yeh-Yeh… He's not going to be around here for much longer…" She whimpered
Dongwa was confused
"What do you mean, sis…?"
"H-He's dying… He was getting really old… I was playing with him this morning and he collapsed and couldn't get back up…!" Sagwa sniffed.
Dongwa gasped in shock. Tears began to well up in his eyes.
"W-Where is he now…?" he asked
"I-In the comfort of his own bed… But I don't know if I want to see him for the last time… I don't want to see him die in front of me…!" cried Sagwa.
Dongwa's heart sank. He held his sister's paw
"Let's go see him together…" He said.
Sagwa was hesitant at first, but she quietly agreed. She and Dongwa went over to Yeh-Yeh's room where Nai-Nai was at her husband's bedside. Yeh-Yeh looked very unwell. He looked over to Sagwa.
"Sagwa… My granddaughter…" he said weakly.
Sagwa grabbed his paw.
"Yeh-Yeh… I'm here…" she said trembling.
"I'm afraid my time has come… for me to cross the rainbow bridge…" said Yeh-Yeh.
Sagwa's eyes widened with tears.
"N-No…! I don't want to lose you…!" She cried.
Yeh-Yeh felt really bad about leaving Sagwa like this, so he put his paw on Sagwa's cheek.
"Sagwa… Please don't be like this… I may not be with you in person… But I'll always be with you in your heart… Just think about it… You have a long life ahead of you, and I want you to make the most of it… I love you, Sagwa…" said Yeh-Yeh.
Sagwa didn't know what to say. Yeh-Yeh slowly closed his eyes and took his last breath. Sagwa snapped and tried to shake him awake.
"No! Yeh-Yeh! Please! Wake up!" she sobbed.
Nai-Nai held onto Sagwa tightly.
"He's gone, Sagwa…" She said sadly.
Sagwa was horrified. She felt as if someone was pulling her heart out of her chest. She burst into tears and hugged Nai-Nai while crying really hard. Nai-Nai hugged her close as tightly as she could.
The next day, the family was attending Yeh-Yeh's funeral. Sagwa was trying really hard to fight back a waterfall of tears. Nai-Nai held her paw as Yeh-Yeh's casket was lowered into his grave. And then it was buried. This was the last time Sagwa would ever see her grandfather alive.
After the funeral, Sagwa was suffering from depression from the loss of Yeh-Yeh. She barely ate, she hated how life was unfair, and she was crying herself to sleep every night.
One night, Sagwa went to visit Yeh-Yeh's grave with a bouquet of roses to give him. She places the bouquet down and sits down in front of the gravestone.
"Hello, Yeh-Yeh… It's me, Sagwa… I've been suffering from depression ever since I lost you…" she said.
Her voice was trembling and she was trying to fight back her tears.
"I hope you have been resting well… I miss you so much and I love you every day…"
Suddenly, she heard Yeh-Yeh's voice.
"My granddaughter… I love and miss you too…"
The spirit of Yeh-Yeh appears in front of Sagwa. Sagwa's eyes widen with awe and tears.
"Y-Yeh-Yeh…? Is that you…?" she asked with a trembling voice.
Yeh-Yeh's spirit nods and takes Sagwa's paw. She could still feel Yeh-Yeh's touch.
"You've been such a wonderful granddaughter to me all of these years… I'm so glad I've spent my whole life with you…" He said.
Sagwa wanted to cry, but she kept fighting back her tears.
"Here… I want you to have this…"
Yeh-Yeh holds out his paw, which forms a ball of light. A Multi Moon appears in his paw and floats down into Sagwa's arms. He puts a paw on Sagwa's cheek.
"There's no need to hold in your tears any longer, Sagwa… I know you're a strong child and you can do this… I'll be watching from above… Always…" he said as he faded away.
Sagwa stared at the sky for a while, then she burst into loud crying, holding the Multi Moon close to her chest.
"I'll miss you, Yeh-Yeh! I'll stay strong for as long as I live!" she shouted.
Meanwhile, Giovanni, who was out for a night stroll, heard Sagwa's cries and turned to see her. He rushed to her to make sure everything is okay.
"Sagwa, what's wrong…?" he asked.
"I-It's my grandfather Yeh-Yeh… I'm visiting his grave…" Sagwa said with a trembling voice.
"Aww… I'm so sorry to hear that… You need a hug…"
Giovanni hugged Sagwa as tight as he could. This made Sagwa cry even harder as she hugged him back.
"There there, Sagwa… I'm sure Yeh-Yeh will be watching you from heaven… Just like Campanella is watching me from heaven too…" said Giovanni.
Sagwa couldn't stop crying, but that's when her tears began to sparkle. With every tear that hit the ground, a flower sprouted from the grass. Sagwa noticed this.
"Huh… Where did that flower come from…?" she asked.
Giovanni noticed it too and then realized something.
"Oh… You're crying Star Tears… When you cry Star Tears, flowers will bloom and wounds will be healed…" he replied.
Giovanni was right. Sagwa's broken heart was starting to heal. Sagwa gave a weak smile and began to let her tears fall and sprout more flowers.
"Yeh-Yeh's right… He may not be with me in person, but he'll always be there in my heart… I'm gonna do as he told me… To stay strong and keep going…" she sniffed as she held onto Giovanni.
Giovanni smiled back.
"That's the spirit, Sagwa… I'm sure Yeh-Yeh would want that…" he said happily.
The next morning, Nai-Nai was sewing something for Sagwa.
"Hey Sagwa, can you come here for a second?" she called to Sagwa.
Sagwa rushed over to her.
"What is it, Nai-Nai?" she asked.
Nai-Nai showed Sagwa a plush doll of Yeh-Yeh.
"This is for you." She said.
Sagwa eyes widened as she slowly takes the doll and then cuddles with it.
"Thank you, Nai-Nai…" she said smiling.
Nai-Nai picked up Sagwa and put her on her lap.
"Yeh-Yeh will always be in our hearts, Sagwa. I know he will." She said.
"I know." Sagwa whispered happily.
THE END
