Veronica jolted awake to the sound of staccato gunfire. Beside her, a red beret sat crooked on the head of a wide-jawed face. Boone looked worried. This must be bad. She rolled onto her stomach and afforded herself a peek over their makeshift shelter. A small army of men clad in red kilts and shiny armor were running in the direction of a large hill. While they moved forward, another group of men were sending waves of lead at the barricade on the hill.

That's where Six was.

She lowered her head and stared at Boone, wide-eyed. The men were too far away for her power fist to be of any use. Even then, there were far too many for the three of them to take by themselves. That didn't seem to be stopping Boone, though. His rifle was already perched on the sandbags in front of them, and he quickly started shooting into the sea of red.

He was dropping them as fast as he could but it barely managed to make a dent. Although he did manage to grab the attention of the few legionaries equipped with guns. As they turned to face the unexpected threat, Veronica saw Six pop over his barricade wielding a strange gun. It looked like a kids toy. She remembered watching him buy it from one of the children in freeside and her thoughts froze.

With a look of grim determination, Six pulled the trigger and three bright lights beamed from the sky. They slowly spun, converging on each other. Veronica looked back at Boone, wondering if the man saw what was happening. He appeared content to continue shooting, mechanically pulling back the bolt of his rifle after each shot. She tackled him to the ground as the lights finally met.

As soon as they hit the ground a massive explosion sounded behind their tiny barricade. It was unlike anything Veronica had ever heard. As if God himself stomped on the legionaries. Boone stared at her with a strange look.

"Sorry, sorry. You just didn't seem to notice what was about to happen." Veronica said.

Boone grunted in reply and gently pushed her off of him, standing up to appraise the damage. As Veronica joined him her jaw dropped. In front of her was a mass of charred bodies. The smell made her gag and she quickly closed her mouth. There must have been at least sixty dead in the pile of corpses.

She heard The Courier yell for their attention and saw him wave the two of them over.

"Holy shit, that was way more powerful than I thought it would be." Six said, looking at Boone.

Boone shrugged and pulled a flask out of his pocket. "They told us it was powerful." He said, unscrewing the lid and taking a swig.

"Still though, I don't think I've ever heard something that loud. Look how wide the blast radius is!" The Courier replied. "It looks like I won't be able to use it for the next twenty-four hours." He added.

"If we're running into groups that big twice a day, we got bigger problems anyway." Boone said.

Veronica continued to stare at both of them, she would never get over how nonchalant Six seemed to be about everything.

As she thought about how strange he was, Six turned around, looking at the road.

"Let's get back to the Strip, I'm starving." He said, walking in the direction of New Vegas.

She looked at Boone, his face back in its usual scowl, and sighed. She was hungry too.

A/n: Woo! I'm back at it again. I hate writing action, it never feels right. Hopefully this isn't as awful as I feel like it is.
