"Alright" puffed Bakugo, "I'm done" Izuku stood up straight, wiping sweat from his brow. Bakugo and Izuku training together was no new thing, in fact, the duo trained several nights a week since mid-last year. Usually All Might would be supervising them and with a teacher present they could use a gymnasium to practice in, but without a teacher they were restricted to a clearing several hundred meters from their dorm.
"Already?" mocked Izuku with a sly smile shot Bakugo's way. He was tired himself and still out of breath, but everything became a friendly competition between them these days.
"Bed time" shot back Bakugo with a glare. He would never admit defeat, but he would never ruin his perfect sleep scheduled for it.
"Right" replied Izuku, dragging the word out with a roll of his eyes to which Bakugo released an explosion from his upturned palm, a warning to stop pushing it. Izuku smiled to himself, amused.
The boys returned to the dorm, Bakugo leaving straight away for a shower then bed while Izuku's stomach rumbled. He hadn't yet eaten dinner and decided it best to do that first than risk showering the same time as Bakugo, something that could piss him off all over. The shared living space was still bustling with classmates, groups of them chatting away on and around the couches. Izuku slipped by and headed to the fridge to see what he could put together for himself, choosing something he closed the fridge door only to find Todoroki standing silently on the other side watching him. Izuku jumped from his sudden appearance, fumbling the eggs he had picked out, one escaping him and falling to the ground.
"Todoroki, you scared me" he commented with a nervous chuckle.
"Sorry" he replied flatly, squatting down as he started to pick up the broken pieces of egg shell. Izuku moved to place the remaining egg he had down on the bench, ensuring it didn't roll, before wetting some paper towel and joining Todoroki on the floor to clean the mess.
"You don't have to clean it up" commented Izuku as he wiped the floor.
"No, it's my fault for startling you" he replied without looking up from his work. They worked in silence a moment longer before Todoroki spoke up.
"So, what did the teachers want this afternoon?" he asked while he picked up the last piece.
"Oh, it was a mistake actually" replied Izuku as he finished wiping and the boys stood back up. Todoroki looked to Izuku, he was never the most expressive of people, but Izuku knew him well enough now to see that with the slight tilt of his head and the glimmer in his eyes that Todoroki was curious.
"Turns out one of the new students has the same family name as me" continued Izuku as he deposited the dirty paper towel in the bin and returned to his remaining egg. He could feel Todoroki's eyes on him now.
"That's odd" he commented
"Yeah," smiled Izuku, "turns out it's my sister"
"Oh, I didn't know you had a sister" replied Todoroki. Izuku glanced over to him. He looked to the ground, was it hurt he glimpsed there. Was he hurt because he thought Izuku had kept it from him?
"Haha," laughed Izuku, bringing Todoroki's attention back to him, "Well neither did I till today" he smiled at Todoroki and with that realisation Todoroki gave a small smile back.
"What, you have a sister!" cried out Ashido from across the kitchen bench. Neither of the boys had noticed her coming towards the kitchen and she was beaming, clearly excited by the news. Her loud words had caught the attention of the remaining students in the lounge and they all bustled over excitedly, asking questions over the top of one another from the other side of the bench. Izuku, still clutching his egg, felt suddenly overwhelmed, but he smiled, warmed by their excitement. Beside him Todoroki stepped closer, the only other student in the kitchen, and took the egg gently from Izuku's hand. With a small smile to him he turned away towards the stove with the egg, a silent offering to make his food for him while he dealt with the curiosity of his classmates.
"I didn't know your mum was pregnant. Congrats" called Yaoyorozu
"How old is she?" added Kirishima
"When did you find out?" asked Uraraka
"Wait, did you say you only just found out today?" interjected Iida
"Does she look like you?" queried Kaminari
"Is she cute?" drooled Mineta
Izuku glared down at Mineta who had climbed up onto a stool. Filled with the sudden urge to protect he put every fibre of menace he could muster into his look. It worked, as Mineta's face dropped and he looked away.
"Does she go here?" asked Tokoyami from the back of the crowd, bringing Izuku's attention back.
"Ah, well," he began, "I met her today for the first time. I'd say she's about 15 and we share the same dad. She's a student here, but I don't know what class"
"What, how do you not know?" called Kaminari
"I only ran into her by accident," replied Izuku with an awkward smile as he recalled their brief meeting, "I didn't really get the chance to talk to her"
"That must have been a shock" commented Uraraka from opposite the bench. Izuku looked to her. Her face showed friendly concern for him, seemingly the first person to understand how shocked he must have been. He smiled to her reassuringly and nodded.
"Right, well let's not all crowd around here" announced Iida, waving an arm at the crowd he had taken the time to step aside of, "I'm sure Midoriya will tell us more when he knows it. Now let's give him some space so he can eat in peace" the huddle of classmates sighed and groaned in complaint as they slowly turned back to the couches. Uraraka shot him a excited smile as she left and Iida, the last to leave, gave him a curt nod paired with a smile as he turned away.
"You'll have to let us meet her real soon!" called back Ashido before she flopped down onto the couches.
A hand touched Izuku's shoulder lightly and he turned to see Todoroki smiling at him gently. He placed a plate down on the bench in front of him before turning to leave also. Alone at last Izuku looked down at the dinner Todoroki had made for him. It was a simple meal, fried egg on toast with seasoning on top and some sadly cut spring onion, but he couldn't help but the smile to himself as he looked down at it, tears of happiness pricking the corners of his eyes. He had a sister now, and was reminded how much his friends meant to him, their excitement and support filling him with warmth.
A few days had passed since Izuku's first encounter with his sister and he had hoped to run into her again, but their paths never seemed to cross. Finally he turned to All Might for help, asking if he could find out what class she was in so he could find her more easily. With a teachers help he found out that Izumi was in class 1C, the additional hero course class added this year. He was filled with excitement at the thought that his little sister wanted to be a hero too and he had so many questions for her.
The school bell rang to end the school day and Izuku had rushed out of his class, apologizing to his friends as he went by that he wouldn't be walking back to the dorms with them today. He hadn't the time to explain where he was going, but they smiled and waved as he shot past and ran down the hallways till he reached the large door marked 1C. The door was already open, with students filing out and milling around in the hallway. He didn't spot Izumi out in the hallway and as he approached the door a student blocked his path. She had been on her way out, almost bumping into Izuku before he stepped back to let her pass. She looked up to him, her eyes narrowing suspiciously at him.
"Who are you?" she asked flatly. She was tall for a girl her age, although still shorter than Izuku who, like most in his class, had had a small growth spurt over the past year, but the top of her white head still came up to Izuku's eye level. She stared at him with red eyes, waiting.
"Uh, I'm looking for Izumi Midoriya" replied Izuku nervously. The girl's intense gaze paired with her appearance made him fell uneasy, like there was something to be feared about her.
"Why?" pushed the girl, stepping forward, her brow furrowing. Izuku took a step back.
"I'm her brother" he replied. She seemed to relax a little, Izuku realising that she must have had the wrong idea. She looked him up and down, her brow still furrowed.
"I don't see it" she commented simply before stepping out of the doorway to let him pass. She turned and left, Izuku wondering if he should feel insulted or not. Choosing to ignore her he turned his attention back to the classroom which still had several small clusters of students inside. Still standing in the doorway Izuku surveyed the room until he spotter Izumi. She sat at a desk with a pair of students before her. Both students had golden hair with rounded cat ears poking out from the top of their heads. One of them, her medium length hair pulled back into a high ponytail, bounced up and down excitedly on the spot while the golden headed boy beside her smiled as he watched. Izumi watched them both with a large smile on her face.
No longer in shock like when he first met her he couldn't help but feel the white haired girl was right, they didn't look that much alike. She had black hair that stopped just above her shoulders. The top of her hair was tame in comparison to Izuku's, though they became wavy and bounced at the ends when she laughed. Her eyes were wide with joy, but while Izuku's were green, hers were a russet brown. The only obvious tell-tale sign that could connect them as siblings were their freckles. While Izuku's clustered on his cheeks, hers ran across the bridge of her nose and were paler than his.
Her eyes met his across the room and she beamed at him, excited to see him and beckoned Izuku into the classroom. Her golden haired friends turned to look to him as he entered and several other pairs of eyes in the classroom turned to him, surprised to see an older student coming in. Most went back to their chatting, some whispered about his presence and one dark haired loner at the back of the class went back to reading his book.
"Izuku, I didn't expect you" beamed Izumi, standing up at her desk as he reached her. Izuku returned her smile, if a little nervously as her friends clustered around her desk looked him over. Izuku went to reply, but the golden haired girl spoke up.
"Ooooh, Izumi, didn't expect this from you. Hasn't even been a full week yet and you've already gotten yourself an older man" she spoke boldly, winking to Izumi and nudging her with her elbow before laughing loudly.
"No, it's not like that" retorted Izumi, her smile fading as she glared at her friend.
"Yeah sure, you don't have to lie about it" retorted her friend with a smirk.
"It's not" spat back Izumi. Her friend laughed and went to speak again, nudging the boy beside her to join in when Izuku raised a hand across the desk between them, both girls turning to look at him.
"I'm her brother" stated Izuku with a awkward smile. He had a feeling misunderstandings like this were going to keep happening.
Her friend's jaw hung open, looking him up and down again making Izuku to feel somewhat self conscious. She turned back to Izumi and mouthed with a shocked expression that's your brother. Izumi chuckled at her friend.
"This is Izuku" she stated, nodding to him.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Tisha" spoke the girl cheerfully, reaching out a hand for Izuku to shake. She beamed to him, still amused by herself, "and this is my brother, Kita" she added, nudging her golden haired brother beside her who shot Izuku a shy smile. Izuku could see it now, the siblings were so alike; the same messy golden hair, the same rounded cat ears atop their heads, the same deep tanned skin, identical golden cat like eyes and each had black beauty spots on their face, although slightly different in shape, Tisha's taking on more of a small crescent moon shape under her left eye while Kita's beauty spot was a smaller full circle. Their eyes were lined with black, Kita's being thicker and stretched from the inner corners of his eyes to touch the side of his nose.
"These are the Paka twins" added Izumi, "they transferred over here with me from Hokkaido" she smiled at her friends as Tisha poked at her quieter brother.
"You came from Hokkaido?" blurted out Izuku, shocked.
"Yeah" replied Tisha, "Our school was attacked soon after we started and closed down so some of us came here. Although we came here just to follow Izumi" she smirked at her friend and leaned over to nudge her side again, Izumi playfully pushing her away. A trio of students walked past the desk to leave the classroom, reminding Kita of the time. He reached forward and touched his sisters shoulder. Tisha looked to him then let out a sigh.
"Well we gotta get going. We promised Ms. Umi we would help her after school" she turned on her heel, scopping up books from her desk beside Izumi's and turned to leave, waving goodbye cheerfully to the Midoriya siblings, her brother following her out. With just the two of them standing there Izumi turned to her brother.
"Did you need me for something?" she asked him.
"Oh, ah, no not really. I just came to see you" replied Izuku a little panicked. The idea of a sister was still new to him. What did siblings do together? Was it normal to just want to hang out? Was it weird to offer to walk with her back to her dorm? All he really wanted to do was talk to her and get to know her more, but he hadn't stopped to consider if she was busy or not.
"If your busy, I can come by another time" added Izuku
"No this is fine" she smiled back warmly, "let me get my things and we can go" Izuku stepped back as she swept up her notebooks and pencil case, pushing them messily into her bag and lead the way out of the room, Izuku in tow. They walked together through the hallways, the silence starting to weigh heavily on Izuku. Finally he spoke up.
"I didn't know you were from the Hokkaido Academy," he began tentativly, "I heard about what happened there" he wasn't sure if it was a sensitive subject or not, but the incident was at the for-front of his mind after hearing about it, "you didn't get hurt did you?" he asked with concern.
Beside him Izumi looked thoughtful as she walked as though she were recalling the event, although she didn't look upset or uncomfrotable with the conversation.
"I was fine. The teachers did a really good job protecting us. My class didn't really see anything and we didn't encounter any villains, so we were pretty lucky" she smiled to herself, "anyway, I don't think anyone would have been able to get past Ms. Umi"
"Is she that strong is she?" asked Izuku, a smile growing on his own face with releif that his question hadn't upset her.
"Oh yeah she is. She's practically a one woman army" she raised a fist to the air, proud of her teacher's ability. "Who's your homeroom teacher?" she asked as they exited the main building into the spring weather outside.
"Mr. Aizawa is ours" replied Izuku.
"Never heard of him"
"Well thats kinda the way he likes it" Izuku knew his teacher was strong, but his personality didn't make him easy to get along with for most. A moment of more comfortably silence passed between them before Izuku spoke up again.
"So why did you pick U.A?" asked Izuku curiously. There were plenty of hero course schools between Hokkaido Academy and U.A. Izuku's train of thought was cut off by the sound of Izumi chucking to herself. She stopped on the path and turned to face Izuku, a warm smile on her face as she looked up to him.
"I came here to find you obviously" she replied before turning on her heel to continue down the path. Izuku stayed standing where he was for a moment more. He hadn't expected her response and he was again reminded with an uncomfortable twist in his gut of their difference in upbringing. She grew up knowing all about him, while he never even knew of her existence, a fact that made him feel a little guilty, even though he knew he couldn't be blamed for it.
"How did you know I was here?" he asked, rushing to catch up to her and she walked confidently towards the path that lead through the trees.
"I saw you on TV last year for the sports festival" she replied, looking back at him, "you were a complete mess" she laughed softly, "I sure hope you're better than that now"
"I-I am!" called Izuku, suddenly wanting to prove himself to her. She only laughed more, but Izuku felt warm inside from her laughter. He felt like he could get closer to her like this.
"And what about you then?" spat back Izuku in mock indignation, "your in the hero course too, what's your quirk then? You better be strong too if you think you can pick on me" he crossed his arms as he walked to add effect.
"I can teleport" she spat back, sticking her tongue out at him, "bet you can't do that"
"Teleport! For real?" asked Izuku excitedly, his mock attitude falling away as his inner nerd came out. Izumi jumped a step ahead of him, spinning on the spot to stand before him, she dropped her bag to the ground and held out a hand to him in offering. The smile on her face invited Izuku to take her hand.
"Close your eyes" she said as he took her hand. A moment later Izuku's body lurched and his eyes shot open, Izumi let go of his hand and he staggered forward a couple of steps before falling forward and landing on all fours on the path. He felt queasy, feeling like he had just stepped off of a rollercoaster for the first time. Izumi stepped closer and crouched down beside him, carefully tucking her skirt under her. Izuku lifted his head to look at her. Her face clearly showed she was trying to hold back laughter and she lifted a hand to point further down the path. Izuku's eyes followed and his breath caught for a moment as he saw her bag about a hundred meters back down the pathway.
"Trust me you would feel a lot worse if you hadn't closed your eyes" she added, the hint of a laugh still in her voice as she rose back to her feet, offering a hand for Izuku, he hesitated.
"I'm gonna help you up not zap you back to my bag" she added with a smirk before Izuku finally took her hand and she helped him up, "geez your heavier than you look too" she added. She left Izuku where he stood and disappeared, reappearing less than a second later down the path to pick up her back and was back again before Izuku could blink.
"Did it make you feel that sick too when you first started?" he asked as she fitted her bag back over her shoulder.
"For sure it did, I was sick a lot, but I've gotten used to it now. If I do it too much though I'll still puke" she said as she started to walk down the path again. "Aside from that little side affect, I can only move as far as I can clearly see, so I can't just zap myself to class whenever I want, annoyingly"
"That's still cool though" commented Izuku, still feeling slightly nauseous.
"Yeah, but Ms. Umi says I rely on my quirk too much. I'm not really good at anything else, like fighting or anything" she went on more solemnly.
"You'll get better at it" added Izuku
"You're a pretty good fighter though" commented Izumi more brightly.
"You taking that just from the sports festival?" asked Izuku warily, if that was all she knew of his capabilities then he probably didn't look too great in her eyes.
"Well, yeah" she replied, "but even then you could hold your own in a fight. I have an idea!" she beamed excitedly, "I could train with you" she looked to him expectantly as they walked. When Izuku didn't reply right away she went on, "surely you don't want your little sister out there in the world unable to defend herself" she added trying to act all cute and defenceless.
"You could always just run away" added Izuku flatly.
"Wha!" she cried out and threw a fist into Izuku's shoulder, "and what sort of hero would I be if that's all I can do" she spat. Izuku laughed at her attempt to throw another punch at him, catching her fist easily in his hand, her first punch not doing much to even bruise him, or maybe he was just used to it these days. She narrowed her eyes at him playfully and he realised his mistake. He moved to let go, but before he could he felt his stomach drop again and a second later they were standing further up the path. His hand dropped and he fell to his knees again. Without the warning to close his eyes it was indeed worse, he rolled onto his side on the ground and cradled his gut, trying to keep down his lunch. Izumi stood back triumphantly.
"Why would you need to fight when you can just do that?" croaked Izuku from the ground.
"I want to be better than that" she replied more seriously, "now admit your defeat and agree to teach me!" she demanded with a more playful tone again, "or I'll take you all the way back to your dorm this way"
"Alright, alright" called back Izuku as he staggered back to his feet, his head spinning. She smiled to him triumphantly, her hands on her hips as she watched her brother try to steady himself. Training together was a perfect way for them to spend more time together and she looked forward to it.
