Almost done with the backstory. Can't believe I'm this ahead in the story. Soon, you'll be seeing the story from the other side.

Chapter 13: The Last of the Past

Konohakure no Sato

All the people took a few minutes to clear their minds out and prepare to either tell or listen to the next course of events.

"When we got the news of Jiraya-sama's death, we immediately knew that we would have to hide them somewhere," Kakashi explained. "But, we didn't have the time, freedom or privilege to do so without giving the council and at least a few others to catch on to what was going on. That's why we had to wait till after Pein attacked."

"Soon after the attack was over, we started to think of where we could move them immediately. Plus, with Danzo's eyes on Naruto, we knew that letting her live with the kids might cause an issue. So we had to hide them in the cave with the rest of us taking turns at watching them. Later, when we had gone to the Summit for Naruto to ask for the Raikage to let go of the hunt for Sasuke," Sasuke drew in a sharp breath, "we met with the Sand Siblings. They warned her of what might be coming next. Gaara suggested taking the kids into one of Suna's hideout. But we had to decline as it would still be hard to hide them there and leave them without any protection. That's when Temari suggested just taking them to a different world for the time being."

"We decided to ask the toads and see if they would allow it. They agreed. So we sent the kids along to Mount Myoboku. Even the toads offered to take them in as they were the descendants of two of their summoners. Plus, they favoured Naruto. They offered protection to the kids and anyone else Naruto sent with them. We sent them with Teuchi, Ayame and Kurenai to take care of them and we knew that no one would be able to enter that place without the toad contract. The Ichiraku's disappearance wouldn't make anyone suspect as we were anyway clearing people out to different locations. Konohamaru denied going. He wanted to remain here and protect the people he loved and be ready if required for the war. Instead, he too took the toad contract as suggested by Naruto. This allowed Naruto and Konohamaru the access to visit them anytime without anyone suspecting as well."

"We let them all remain there until everything here was settled", concluded Kakashi.

"After Hokage-sama and the other Kage made an Alliance and Naruto was to be sent to the turtle island with Gai and I, she visited Mt. Myoboku all the time. It was actually funny that she always left the rest of us to act as decoy even though she could have taken poor Gai and make him suffer less from the sea-sickness." Yamato added.

"Ay! No need to worry my dear friend. I had the power of YOUTH with me. Naruto-chan had to go back to check on the adorable chibis so that they continued to rise with their power of Youth!", stated Gai.

"The toads were gracious enough to allow me to stay for the time period of my pregnancy and even after giving birth," Kurenai added. "It allowed Asuma and Kono-kun to thing clearly and not worry about Mirai-chan and me. Kono-kun bought in Asuma and Shizune for the birth and even Naru-chan came by for some time. Then everyone headed off to the main battle while we remained hidden."

"Gamakichi-kun and Gamatatsu-kun kept us updated about the battlefield and the war." She continued. "Only after the whole mess had calmed down and everyone had been awoken from Kaguya's spell were Teuchi-san, Mirai-chan and I bought back to Konoha."

"Hm. We decided to leave the kids in there and Ayame decide to remain with them until Naruto-chan was healed and cleared to go and meet them", Asuma added.

"Yeah!", Genma also decided to add. "It was kind of funny seeing Naruto act like a kid and throw a tantrum to go and see Ume-chan and Kaede-kun. It had been a long time since she did that for real and not as an act for her mask".

All the other Jōnin, including Neji who had come back in during Konohamaru's story, also put in their different opinions and thoughts about Naruto and the kids. The other Rookies, including Sasuke, just stood by and listened, trying to absorb in all the new facts.

Just seeing how everyone address Naruto and how much they stood up for her, the Rookies realised just how special she must have been to all of them. They had all protected Naruto and her kids with their lives and all their power. They had kept the secret knowledge that they might be targeted even more for it. Even though they all had experienced first hand on how much Naruto could sway and inspire people to follow her and how easily she took a place in all their hearts, they had most likely experienced only a fraction of it. They called it fraction because the effect she seemed to have on the rest of the people in the room seemed to be a lot more than they had ever witnessed.

In one way or another, they had been there for Naruto. They had supported her, been there for her and protected her more than most people realised. They had seen her at her most vulnerable position and at the same time at her strongest. They had seen her grow in age, strength and as a person. They were proud of her achievements. They were like her family. Something she had always wanted.

Now that they had all learnt the whole truth, the Rookies wanted the answer for the question that they had first come in to ask the Hokage. Some had their own theories. But they still needed a final confirmation.

"So where is she now?", asked Kiba, bringing back the rest out of their light conversation.

Ooooohhh... Where is Naruto? Any guesses?
