Arlington in the Fall

The sleek silver corvette drove slowly through the familiar streets of Arlington. The park was filled with children. Boys were playing basketball on the court, some still in shorts and sleeveless shirts while others were transitioning to the weather with long sleeve jerseys and sweatpants. Girls stood to the side with thin leggings and long-sleeved shirts watching the boys while pretending not to notice them at all. Parents and grandparents sat on benches watching the younger children on the swings, teeter totters, and slides as they laughed.

The tree lined streets were starting to show the color changing of the season. Green leaves mixed perfectly with the golden reds and browns of the foliage swirling down into the yards of the neighborhood. Fences painted white; doors decorated from everything from residents refusing to let go of summer to the cooler transitions into fall.

The driver parked across the street from a lovely two-story house with a white fence and long driveway. Stepping from the car, the driver leaned against the corvettes closed door, folding her arms, to stare at the house. The yard scattered with gold and brown leaves from the tall tree in the front yard. The front door held a fall foliage wreath. The edge around the steps sat a small bale of hay with a small scarecrow perched sideways against the small bundled.

A smile bloomed over her face as a small boy with blonde curly hair bounce out the door with her parents following close behind. "Mommy!" He yelled upon seeing her racing to the fence to open the gate for her.

"Amber" her fathered smiled at her just as her mother the child fidgeting with the lock, "how was England?"

Kissing her parents while picking up the four-year-old squeezing her neck in greeting. "Very British but I'm extremely glad to be home. How was this little man?"

"I'm good, I put the crows out." Jack smiled at his mother while his grandfather ruffled his hair.

"I used to put the crows out too when I was little. I can't wait to see where you have put them."

"Mommy I put them all over, even on Papa's desk chair." His giggles as Amber looked to her father.

"Yes, that one was interesting." Lee said as he rubbed his backside.

The small group walked into the house, the smell of apple pie baking and cinnamon candles burning. Taking a deep breath Amber smiled, "I love Arlington in the Fall."
