A couple of weeks after the excavation group had set up camp on the island, they were already getting good results.
"The perimeter is clean sir, we are the only things here," said a soldier to Jim as they stood at the dig sight.
"Good, make sure the men stay on guard and call in every thirty minutes, we don't know what could be on this island," said Jim.
"Hey, we have gold over here!" said a worker who was in a trench.
"Can you get it out?" asked Malcolm as he ran to him.
"Going to have to dig more uphill, this thing is huge," said the worker as he stood before a bowling ball size piece of gold that was still stuck in the ground.
"Get some workers up on top of that hill and work your way down," said Malcolm.
"So that's what gold looks like," said Abedabun as she stood next to Malcolm.
"Hey, I just found diamond over here," said another worker who was twenty feet down from the gold.
"You're closer to the surface, try and dig it out by yourself for now," said Malcolm.
"We really could have used more workers than four," said Jim.
"We didn't count on all of these minerals being basically on the surface, but when we take the first batch back we'll put in a request for more people to come back with us for the next wave," said Malcolm.
"And when will we be returning?" asked Abedabun.
"As soon as the diamonds are out, the gold will have to wait for a bigger boat," said Jim as he looked at crates full of other minerals.
"We only have enough boats to take four thousand pounds across at a time," said Malcolm.
"And this thing is more than that," said the first worker as he and the others found that the gold went another several feet under the ground and was big enough for three people to stand on.
"Might have to cut it into smaller pieces," said a shocked Malcolm.
