I do not own the characters. Just the plot.
I hope you enjoy the Melody of the Heart Chapter 5!
Nico
I sit at my desk, feeling the anxiety close in around me.
'Why am I so nervous about a coffee date, I am a grown man I should not feel so on edge'
I just keep glancing at the clock and trying to get my legs to stop vibrating on the ground.
"Oh, my gods Nico! Can you please stop that annoying ass tapping!"
Percy practically screams, across the room. I jump in my seat.
"Shut up Percy, there is no way I am bothering you all the way over here! Stop disturbing everyone." I yell back, what a stupid kelp head.
Percy is glaring at me until Jason comes stomping out of his office. Telling us both to knock it off, and to just get back to work.
I mumble a few more insults and shot a glare at Percy, before trying to go back to my work. I end up resuming my watching the clock. It felt like a century before the clock hit five-forty. I get up to leave, 'I do not want to be late'.
"Hey, why are you leaving so early Neeks?!"
Percy teased as I sling my bag over my shoulder.
"I have a life, unlike some people!"
I could feel him glaring at me as I walk out. I send him the bird over my shoulder, as I walk into the elevator. I stand there waiting for the doors to close and fiddling with my keys.
'Why am I so nervous?'
I feel a presence standing near me, I turn around and am met with Jason smirking down at me.
"So, how's it hanging Neeks?"
"Pretty good, I got all my work done. I only have to go to a few more concerts this week."
His smirk turns into a devious smile, making the small scar on his lip noticeable. The door dings and finally closes, it is me and Jason and some random people from different floors. I shift my attention back to him, he starts saying,
"Hey, if you don't have any work or plans; would you like to come over to my house? Piper is making lasagna."
"Can't tonight I have plans, how about a raincheck."
"You have plans? With who?"
I can feel my cheeks flush. Thank gods for my darker complexion, otherwise, it would be way more obvious.
"It's not a big deal, just getting coffee with a new acquaintance, you wouldn't know them."
"Do I sense a date? Did some prince finally come to sweep little Neeks off his feet?"
Jason's smirk has gotten so big, he looks like the Cheshire cat.
'Do my friends think that I just sit at home, eating ice cream'
It is not that rare for me to go out, even if it isn't very common.
"Tough it is none of your business Grace…"
'I can feel myself getting frustrated'
"…it's just with a musician who wants to talk about their music. I'm acting as more of an associate."
I mean, some of that's true, we will probably talk about music.
'Gods, why am I so embarrassed?'
The elevator finally opens to the lobby, and I rush out ahead of Jason. I do not want him prying any further into my business.
I hear him yell behind me,
"Have fun on your date, Nico!"
As I head out of the building, towards Olympia.
I calm a little, as New York's evening air hits my face. I look down at my watch and it reads five-fifty. I have ten minutes to walk two blocks, 'oh gods why was I in such a hurry to get out of work.'
I walk slowly and a few minutes before 6 I make it to Olympia's doors. Anxiety riddles my body; I try to push it down as I open the door. The smells of vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and most importantly coffee wash over me.
It smells amazing, I feel slightly less worried as I look around for Wills blond mop of hair. I do not have to look long because a waving hand catches my attention.
I make my way over to Will, trying not to bump into anyone or spill any coffee. I can feel Will's eyes on me. It makes the blood rush to my face.
"Hello, Nico!"
The sounds of my name on his tongue are like a cat's purr. It sends a shiver down my spine.
"H-hi Will, have you ordered yet?"
"No, I was waiting until you got here. Lead the way!"
A small smile spreads across his face as I put my bag on the chair. I can feel his eyes on my back as I head to the barista's counter, it is making my stomach do cartwheels. If he keeps looking at me like that, I am going to have a severe problem with my hands.
He orders a very sugary frappe, while I get red-eye, 'what Hazel doesn't know won't hurt her'. After Will insists on paying, we walk over to the pickup counter. I can hear Will humming; a very familiar tune, my blood instantly turns cold.
'Is this a hint to tell me he knows who I am? Is it a coincidence? Or what?'
We get our coffees quickly and head back to our table. As we sit down, Will smiles at me.
"So, Nico di Angelo; would you like to play a game?"
"Depends on the kind of the game, so what kind?"
I asked skeptically.
"A question game, one of us will ask the other a question. You must answer, then the questioner also must answer. It's an effective way to get to know somebody."
"Okay, but you have to ask first."
"Yay, okay. Let us start easy. What is your favorite color?" Will looks at me, expectantly.
"Black."
"Nice, not technically a color but I'll let it slide. I love yellow!"
"Who is your favorite musician?"
I say because it's the most obvious question, as I bring my cup to my lips.
"Well, for the longest time it was this pianist. Lately, though, I have been obsessing over an Italian piano and violinist duo, named Melodia."
I choke on my steaming coffee, I started coughing.
