The wind blows, sun shining brightly above, golden rays cutting through the thick carpet of clouds rolling by. Mountains reaching for the sky, their outer layer covered in dense trees and grass. Lakes untouched, rivers running smoothly. A small group of pidgies fly by overhead, their swift wingbeats keeping them aloft. There is a loud roar, the pidgies have to dodge out of the way, a pillar of wailing flames launch up past their flock. Down below, a duel is coming to fruition, a young man defending himself with his feet anchored in the draws covered ground. John grits his teeth, feeling his heart sink. His Charmeleon roars in pain, a large stone bashed it dead in the chest. Only a few meters away, and Aggron stands firm, its light blue eyes locked on its opponent. Standing just behind the steel and stone behemoth, an older man grins wide, tapping his chin thoughtfully.
"Looks like this is going to be easier than I thought." "Shut up!" I shout, before pointing angry at the Aggron. "Charmeleon, use blaze!"
His Charmeleon shouts out its own name, before its red body begins to glow. Flames rush out of its body, before sailing at Aggron. The man shouts. "Aggron, use stone edge!" Aggron roars, smashing its stiff arms into the ground. The ground rumbles violently, spikes of stone burst out of the floor. It travels in a wave, punching through the flames. The fire hits Aggron dead on, but it doesn't flinch. Rock spikes strike Charmeleon in the underside, tossing him around, wailing. John has to jump out of the way as the wave continues, nearly being struck by one himself.
Charmeleon collapses to the ground, the flames disperse from Aggron, smoke slowly rising from the holes in its head. Reluctantly, John has to call Charmeleon back, the unconscious Pokémon glows red, being sucked back into the open poke-ball being held in John's hand. He clicks it closed, before pushing himself off the ground. The man finishes stroking his chin, his smile couldn't get any bigger.
"Have any more little friends? Or are you ready to submit." That's two now, John only has two left. He brushes dirt off his knees, reaching for a certain poke-ball. It's back in color, with yellow lines running down past the button. He doesn't want to use it, but it's either bring out his trump card, or submit to defeat. John whispers to himself, almost being drowned out in the wind. "Forgive me dad."
He opens it, letting loose the dragon inside. He takes a deep breath, it feels like cheating. "Haxorus, I choose you !"
Red light jumps out, crashing onto the ground. It takes shape, the smile from the man fades away. Black and red colors come to life, a towering beast with blades jutting from its jaw comes to life. It's thick tail whisks back and forth, dark armor covers its body. Aggron growls, Haxorus returns the growl. The man shouts, genuinely disturbed. "But, you're just a kid, how did you get your hands on a shiny dragon type!?" Haxorus isn't native the the Kanto region, but neither is Aggron. So it's fine to break some rules. John doesn't dare smile, he didn't catch this Pokémon anyway. It was his father's it was a gift, before he left this world. But it's the key to victory. John doesn't answer the man's question, but makes a fist.
"Haxorus, use Guillotine!" The Pokémon's axes begin to glow, it charges. The man panics. "Aggron, use meteor beam." Aggron opens its sturdy jaw, light glows between its stocky teeth. It doesn't fire in time, Haxorus's blade hits a stationary target. It cuts deep, the light from Aggron's mouth disappears. It roars, before collapsing. The man opens his mouth to shout, his face frozen in a state of fear. He calls Aggron back, Haxorus struts back to John. But the man quickly regains himself, his grin returns as he pulls out a different poke-ball.
"Lapras, I choose you!" The water and ice type comes on, wailing while swaying it's head around. Without a second to breathe, the man shouts again. "Lapras, use Frost breath!" The Pokémon exhales, shards of ice fling at Haxorus's back. It roars in pain, John jumps. Haxorus swirls around, its back covered in needle thin spikes of ice. The man laughs, before pointing straight at John. "What now, your dragon type has no chance!" A smile finally comes through for John, Haxorus shifts like she know what's about to happen. "Haxorus!" John gets low to ground, ready for the ground to break. "Use Earthquake!" "What!?" Haxorus leaps into the air, before slamming onto the ground, with a meteor like speed. The ground vibrates violently, Lapras is tossed around. It wails, being smacked into an uprooted wall. It falls between the opening cracks, Johns vision is doubled. Dust billows out fo the ground, flying Pokémon nearby take off, startled by the big jolt.
A few moments go by, the dust slowly clears away. John stands up, Haxorus remains standing. The Lapras is stuck, it's neck is limp. The man, with scapes and bruises, calls Lapras back, before falling to his knees. "You win." He fishes for something out of his pocket, before throwing it at John. A wad of poke-dollars, bundled up and stuffed in a bag. Haxorus sniffs the bag, John picks it up. He laughs, one filled with joy. "We did it!" He hugs Haxorus by the face, dispute its blood red eyes, and menacing appearance, Haxorus's closes its eyes, letting out a noise that sounds like purring. The man sulks away, defeat written all over his form. "With this." John says in excitement. "We won't go hungry tonight!" He holds out the ultra ball, aiming it at Haxorus. "Ready to go home?" Haxorus shakes it head, sauntering away. "Oh yeah, you like out of your ball." John shrugs, stashing the bag of money in his backpack, rolling Haxorus's away from the battlefield. "Well, lets get home, mom will be worried for us."
They travel home, as the sun blazes by overhead. But, unknown to them, something is thrown out of the sun's gravity well. An asteroid, sent sipping back into space. It passes by Mercury, barely missing Venus. It's in a direct collision with the Earth, and nothing will step in to stop it.
