The scene before her was somewhat perplexing to her. Not that it was any immediately obvious thing, no, it was subtle.
You see, normally Blake would keep a somewhat reserved distance from Wayle, and have obvious problems looking at him or talking to him, but now suddenly that distance had been reduced, not enormously, maybe just a decimetre or so, but still, and suddenly they had an animated conversation, although sometimes either of them would suddenly become embarrassed and look away.
Okay, so it wasn't much of a secret that Blake liked Wayle, although the exact extent of her feelings was more obscure, but Wayle himself had never shown any true indications that he liked or loved a specific person, a source of many a rumour and wild mass guess amongst the students, ranging all the way from asexuality to being in an active relationship with any and/or all females known to have interacted with him (however briefly or rarely). It didn't help that he tended towards a charming behaviour and extreme politeness.
But right now it looked like he was actually interested in Blake! It was enough to give any mischievous angel of love a headache, and Yang really couldn't say she was an exception. Not to say that she wasn't happy for her partner, no, on the contrary she was ecstatic, although she would very much like to know why their relationship changed overnight…
Although she had a vague memory of them leaving the room during the night…
Yang resisted the urge to grin perversely at the two of them, although if Wayle's sudden look in her direction implied anything it was that he had noticed something, although as always it was rather hard to tell.
Now if only her sister could find some happiness as well… Although, really? With who? There were none available around, at least not that she approved off, and Ruby herself seemed to have no one in mind either…
Yang's mind wandered slightly as she watched her baby sister having a slight argument with Weiss over her current diet, something about it being unhealthy…
Actually, why was Weiss suddenly so fussy about Ruby's wellbeing anyway? And did she just blush and avert her eyes when Ruby pouted? That is just weird.
"Yang?" A voice reached her ears. "Yang, why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?"
Yang startled to realise that it was Ruby, who had grown concerned over her staring,
"It's nothing, Rubes. Was just thinking is all." Yang dismissively waved at her. "More importantly, shouldn't you start thinking about love soon?" Yang winked mischievously.
Her words earned her a number of reactions.
Ruby panicked and waved her hands in front of her while blushing furiously and stammering out: "What are you talking about?!"
Weiss in the meantime blushed slightly at the sight of Ruby's adorable panic, while Blake looked at her startled while Wayle gave her a raised eyebrow.
"And what brought about such a sudden question Yang?" Wayle said calmly as he smiled.
"Oh, I'm sure you know why, Wayle." Yang replied with a grin.
"Well, I cannot say that I have looked into your mind Yang so I have no idea what you are thinking." Wayle's dry reply came.
"How about you Blake? You seem like you have an idea." Yang then turned to the raven haired girl next to Wayle and asked with a mischievous smile.
"I have no clue, Yang, really. What possessed you to think so?" The girl curiously countered while inclining her head to the left.
Yang shrugged and gave an innocent look. "I don't know, just really felt that you should have known."
"It seems that we are out of time, lessons start soon, so we should head over to the classroom." Wayle intersected, looking at the time while rising from his seat.
"Oh, you're right. We better hurry then." Ruby said and started to get up as well, seemingly having managed to calm down.
The others rose as well, letting a bit of haste enter their movements as they realised the time until class was running short.
-Break—
Wayle was studying a Dust crystal intently, turning it over in his hands, looking at every facet. He was also using the Force to further investigate it.
'It looks so innocuous, and yet it contains such power…'
It was a curious thing, possessing a level of atonement with the Force, able to respond to it. But it was unstable and volatile, and could easily be made to unleash the energy within, more often than not causing an explosion.
He idly pondered whatever it could be made more stable, but as far as he had been able to find out in books and from Weiss, there seemed to be no method for it on Remnant, possibly because nobody saw any use for it in such a form…
Then what if he used techniques not from Remnant? He knew a few tricks that they did not, as well as a few they could impossibly know. But to test any of those he would need some specialised facilities…
He rose from his seat, there was only so many ways for him to find out. He immediately set out for the teachers' office in search of a teacher to question.
After a short while of walking he made it to his destination, and after having knocked and received permission to enter, he found himself face to face with a somewhat troubled looking Glynda with no one else there right now.
"Ah, Professor Goodwitch. May I have a moment of your time?" He politely asked her.
Glynda cast a few glances around before forcing herself to become composed. "Yes Mr. Tyran, what did you want?" To her credit her voice contained no signs of discomfort.
"Yes, you see, I was wondering if there were any facilities for… how to put this?" Wayle considered how to best phrase his question so she could understand. "Refining Dust I suppose?"
"Why would you…? No, never mind. There is a few facilities with such capabilities, and we could arrange for you to use one if necessary." Glynda seemed a bit confused at first but seemed to decide that it would not be worth her time asking for the exact reason.
"Thank you, that would be most appreciated. You see, I want to experiment with the creation of Dust crystals." Wayle gave a slight bow as well as further explanation for his intentions.
Glynda raised an eyebrow but did not question him further. "I will see what I can do. Do you desire privacy for your experiment?"
"Yes, that might be prudent indeed."
Glynda picked up her scroll and looked at a few small details before giving a small nod, pressing a few buttons before looking back at him.
"There is a laboratory for student use that you may borrow, although you might want to note that someone is using it for another half an hour."
"Thank you Professor. Although… I will require some guidance. I do not know the way." Wayle gave another slight bow.
Glynda seemed to ponder the dilemma for a few moments before the door was opened and disturbed her thinking.
"Professor, here's the report you asked for… Am I interrupting something?" A female voice came from behind him.
Turning around he was met with a tall girl with short brown hair except for a longer wavy lock on the right side of her face that gradually transitioned into a combination of yellow and red. Her eyes were covered by sunglasses and on her head she wore a beret.
"Ah, Miss. Coco, excellent. May I ask you to guide Mr. Tyran here to the second laboratory? He has asked to use it." Glynda almost seemed to jump at the solution that had presented itself.
"You're actually going to use it? And here I thought our Velvet were one of the only. Sure, I can show him the way." The girl, now identified as Coco, exclaimed, seemingly astonished.
Still, the name Velvet did ring a bell, and therefore Wayle assumed that Coco was a member of Velvet's team, what was it again…?
Ah, yes, team CFVY. Then this person must be their leader. Yes, that matched up.
"Thank you, your assistance is most appreciated." Wayle once again gave a small bow as a show of his appreciation.
"Eh, think nothing of it. I'm going there regardless, so it's hardly any bother." Coco just waved her hand at him dismissively as she walked past him to deliver her report. As soon as she had delivered it she turned and left with a gesture for him to follow.
Wayle gave one last bow to the professor before following Coco out the door. He quickly caught up to her as she almost strutted forward.
"You're the first year that helped Velvet right?" She suddenly asked him.
"Indeed, I did." Wayle answered.
"Thanks, she never was much of a fighter, and we weren't there right then. Seems you managed to instil a bit of fire in her too." Coco voiced her appreciation for his actions that day.
"I just cannot abide by baseless discrimination, I judge people by their character, not their heritage." Wayle gave a small smirk. "Ultimately, she helped herself." He chuckled lowly.
Coco raised an eyebrow but did not ask. "You know, there's a lot of rumours about you."
"Rumours? While I am hardly surprised I myself have not heard any of them." Wayle stated in an intrigued tone of voice. "Not that I went looking."
"Really? They're all over Beacon by now. I'm honestly surprised you haven't heard any of them at all." Coco said with amazement in her voice.
"And? What was your intention in bringing the subject up?" Wayle queried.
"Well, there are some rumours that have circulated that you are involved with several women, although I know for sure that the one about you and Velvet is untrue I can't help but wonder…" Coco looked at him seriously.
"If I do not misunderstand the meaning of 'involved' in this case then there is only one that I am involved with. I will admit to having shown dubious behaviour, but never seriously. I hope you will understand." He gave a slight apologetic smile.
She seemed a bit unsure, but she did not broach the subject any further as they had arrived.
"We're here." She said curtly.
Just then the door opened revealing a rather happy Velvet. Although when she saw Wayle her expression quickly turned into confusion.
"Hmm? Oh, him. I just showed him the way here, apparently he's going to use it after you Velvet." Coco dismissively explained to the confused girl.
"Oh?! Really?!" Velvet said excitedly.
"Yes, I wanted to perform some experiments and was directed here." Wayle explained further.
"Wow! Good luck then! We need to go now, so… Bye!" Velvet happily wished him luck before waving as she left with Coco.
Wayle raised an eyebrow at the unexpected behaviour before he entered the laboratory. Making sure the door was properly locked so as to not allow any unwanted visitors, he surveyed the room he had entered.
Wayle contentedly noted that most of the things he would need were available, and the Dust he wanted to experiment on he had brought himself.
Striding to work, he quickly and efficiently set up the required equipment, drawing upon his memories for reference.
At first he simply made a crystal the normal way to confirm that he could do it. Having confirmed this, he started to experiment with various methods that he had learned in his own universe, although most of them required things that simply did not exist on Remnant.
After maybe an hour or two of experimentation he came to the rather sad conclusion that the normal methods could not stabilise the Dust.
Of course, he had not expected any success with the methods available to him.
Then there was only one thing remaining, Sith Alchemy. One of the many disciplines that Wayle had learned during his tenure among the Sith, it was something he preferred not to use, as it involved using the Dark Side to alter objects and creatures.
Still, he needed to try all possibilities now that he had committed to this experiment. Gathering himself and drawing upon the Dark Side, Wayle methodically and meticulously used it to reach into the Dust and alter its properties, forcing it to form a crystal that way, creating far stronger bindings than normal.
When he was finished he looked upon the result. The previously vibrant blue Dust had formed into a darker purple crystal, and touching it, Wayle could literally feel the Dark Side inside it.
He had basically just created a Dark Side artefact. An object that could very well corrupt those who held it for too long.
But had he actually achieved his goal? Tentatively he sent a bit of energy through it in the form of a weak Lightning. The crystal glowed and emitted the energy just a bit stronger, but it did not explode, something that a normal Dust crystal would have.
Wayle smiled evilly, he had succeeded in his goal. Now all that remained was some polishing of the technique, especially looking into reducing the overall Dark Side influence it exuded as well as some improvements in the speed and efficiency of creation.
But even so… This was quite useful indeed…
Author's notes: Sorry for the delay, inspiration fled me which caused a lack of work. So... what do you think about the chapter? Anything truly cringe-worthy that you really disliked or anything you liked particularly? Its fine if it falls somewhere in between but constructive criticism is the nutrition upon which authors like me grow, so yeah... I hope you enjoyed and that you have a nice day.
