Adam's gaze was alertly seeking any signs of his opponent coming out of the dust cloud surrounding the site he had been knocked into. The combat had been fierce, and his strength was being sapped by several wounds, bruises and pure exhaustion both physical and in terms of Aura.
As the dust settled he finally found his opponent, standing there, clothes scuffed and a few bruises accompanying a gash over the chest. A gash that was healing right before his eyes, although a slight wince told him that his opponent felt discomfort.
His grip tightened around Wilt as their eyes locked. He could see his opponent's grip tighten around his own blade as the chamber rotated once again…

Wayle had to admit, he had sorely underestimated the abilities of Adam Taurus, and had as such suffered unnecessary damage. It really did go to point out that holding back too much was really bad for him.
Not that his life was in any danger, he wasn't holding back that much, although he supposed that was a moot point.
Wayle focused on the man before him, thinking of various methods with which he could win this battle. Distantly he registered a large explosion as well as the sound of something barrelling through buildings. It didn't matter, it was a battlefield out there, it was futile to attempt to keep track of everything. No, for now he would focus on Adam…
Tremors and a loud roar interrupted his thoughts as both combatants found themselves distracted.
'Now what?' Wayle thought. Then he felt something familiar. Grimm. Even as that realisation was settling in the tremors grew stronger until suddenly a huge Grimm barrelled through a nearby building, heading straight for them.
They both jumped back to avoid the massive beast, a quadruped with a long snout, two massive tusks and large ear flaps. Its skull was covered in the typical bone mask of a Grimm and along its back bony spines jutted out.
It could easily rival a Rancor in terms of size and ferocity and Wayle couldn't help but be impressed by those traits. Idly he considered if he could use it as a mount, but quickly discarded the thought as attempting it would be too dangerous.
Realizing that his attention had wandered he quickly attempted to locate Adam, only to find that he had seemingly run off. That, or he had somehow erased his Aura, something Wayle quite frankly doubted the man could.
Of course, that didn't mean he would dismiss it entirely, as he had long since learned not to assume something impossible. Especially not in this world.
His musings was cut short as the massive beast decided to take offense to him ignoring it, attempting to trample him. He simply jumped away, sending lightning into the beast.
Unsurprisingly the beast's size meant that it simply shrugged it off, trying to retaliate with its large trunk. Wayle jumped above the appendage even as it tore apart the nearby scenery. Landing on one of the tusks he quickly leapt again, this time onto the beast's back, slashing with his sword as he ran along.
While it did leave gashes in the hide, it did little to harm the beast and it simply trashed about, forcing him off by virtue of the sheer violence in the motion. Before he had even hit the ground the massive tusks came sweeping as the beast turned, seemingly trying to hit him mid-fall.
Well, Wayle would have none of that, and simply used the Force to jump in mid-air doing a spinning slash against one of its legs before leaping off another. Repeating that pattern he became a whirl of blades, cutting into the beast even as it thrashed about, trying desperately to interrupt his assault.
Then it simply decided to storm off, and although Wayle avoided being hit, he was also left behind. Landing on a nearby rooftop, Wayle surveyed the beast even as it started turning, redirecting its charge back towards him.
Gathering his power Wayle attempted to stop the beast's charge and crush it. He reached out and grasped it, trying his best to halt its forward momentum even as he pressed against it with all his might.
But the beast's size meant that it wouldn't be crushed, even Wayle's might unable to perform the feat, at least in his current condition. Furthermore, it wouldn't stop either, and soon he found himself needing to leap away as the beast barrelled through the building he had been standing on.
He frowned. The beast had proved most resilient, having shrugged off all his attacks up till now, its thick hide stopping most of his attacks from actually doing damage, and the beast wouldn't let him just wail away at it with impunity.
He needed to change tactics. He spun the Dust chamber on Gram, selecting green Dust and activating it, causing a green glow to envelop the weapon. Then the colour distorted, mixing in other colours that could not quite be identified before merging into a darker and lighter green as electricity started crackling along the blade.
The beast, that Wayle had a vague inkling telling him that it should be a Goliath, charged at him again. But this time he didn't jump out of the way. No, this time he leapt towards it with fearsome speed, blade flashing a combination of darker and lighter green and crackling with electricity. They collided, blade meeting bone.
And then the bone gave way as it could not withstand the further sharpened blade combined with the beasts own momentum, driving it onwards with, the massive beast killing itself on the sword.
The sword exited on the opposite side of the beast, leaving a massive gash that caused the beast to flounder and crash, dead before it even hit the ground.

Ruby dashed across the rooftops, leaping between them whenever necessary as she tried to find some way to deal with her current problem, a Giant Nevermore that was either swooping at her, wrecking the buildings she was standing on, or launching barrages of razor sharp feathers at her.
She had no idea what happened to Emerald after the Nevermore showed up, nor did she have any idea why a Nevermore showed up, although having run about for a while she had realized that the city's perimeter had been breached, allowing large amounts of Grimm to enter.
She had thought the incident with the train was bad, but it paled in comparison to the current one. For the first time in years the Goliaths had launched an attack, managing to reach the city walls and promptly destroying them. Turns out that Vale wasn't quite as safe as previously thought, although under normal circumstances the Grimm would have been detected and countermeasures deployed far earlier.
She really hoped this wasn't the White Fang's plan… speaking of which, if Emerald was an enemy then did that mean that…
The likelihood that they weren't was really low, and might even explain a few things… Besides, thinking back… that girl (woman?) named… what was it again? Cinder…?
Yeah, that was probably it. She had looked familiar, and suddenly Ruby realized that she must have been the woman in the Bullhead back before she joined Beacon, as well as the person she fought in the CCT…
If she hadn't been running frantically for her life she would have hit herself for being stupid, but as it stood she really didn't have the time…
She dashed again, using the recoil of Crescent Rose to propel herself out of the way of the Nevermore once more.
Even if she had improved, she still couldn't take on the gigantic bird, as, while she could damage it with her scythe, getting close enough to use it was no trivial task. Surviving might also be a bit tricky.
That was when she heard a boom and a familiar joyful voice as an orange-haired missile flew by, a hammer smashing into the birds head, causing it to drop from the sky.
Ruby could only gape at the cheerful Nora as she landed by her, followed immediately by Ren and Yang.
"Yang! Thank goodness you're okay!" Ruby immediately hugged her elder sister.
"Yeah, me too sister… me too…" Yang said soothingly.
"I'd hate to ruin your reunion, but the Nevermore is still alive." Ren calmly pointed out.
Ruby quickly disentangled herself and turned towards their enemy. It was slowly recovering, trying to get back up.
"Yang! Nora! Smash it!" Ruby quickly shouted.
The indicated people immediately sprung forth readying their fist and hammer respectively, Yang's hair starting to glow as she released the pent up energy from her earlier fights.
The two hit in a pincer attack, each delivering a blow to the sides of its head. The sheer force of their blows sent both of them flying back while the Nevermore's mask cracked with a sickening noise. Ren quickly dashed forth and delivered a strong blow, causing the skull to cave in, killing the beast instantly.
Scanning the area to make sure nothing else attacks them they regrouped, Nora and Yang brushing dust of their clothes after having crashed into buildings.
"That went better than last time." Yang said with a grin.
"Yeah-"The rest of Ruby's reply was cut off as the ground tremored, causing all of them to look towards the source to see a Goliath charging before being met by a person leaping towards it.
Fierce energies seemed to be released as the person's blade cut through the massive beast. He then proceeded to fly a slight bit further, landing in a roll into a crouch not far from them.
That was when they realised it was Wayle. Who had just singlehandedly killed a Goliath, one of the largest Grimm she had ever seen. A whistle of appreciation could be heard, but Ruby was too distracted to figure out who had done it.
Once again she was really glad to be friends with him as, quite frankly, he was terrifyingly powerful. Then the thought struck her that last time she had seen him he was facing off against Adam Taurus, and she could see no sign of him anywhere.
"Wayle! What's going on? What about Adam?" Ruby questioned him as she ran up to him.
Wayle looked up at her, and for a few moments she could see his eyes having taken on an unnatural golden look before it faded and they returned to normal, a slight hint of Wayle supressing something apparent.
Yang looked at Wayle confusedly before looking at her sister and then back again.
"Wait, what's going on? Why is Wayle here? Wasn't he supposed to be out on a mission far away from here? And what's this about Adam?" The confusion was apparent in her voice as she looked at them.
"To answer your questions, I am here because I came back sooner than they expected, as was the plan. As for Adam, he and I were having a battle when our large friend decided to interrupt it. Adam ran away in the confusion." Wayle answered calmly. "How about you Ruby? What happened to Emerald?" He then turned to question Ruby.
"She got away when a Giant Nevermore showed up." Ruby looked down.
"Wait? Emerald? What's this now? What's going on here?!" Yang's confusion, that had been momentarily alleviated returned with a vengeance.
"Oh! Right… forgot to tell you…" Ruby shuffled her feet nervously before taking a deep breath and steeling herself. "Turns out that that green haired girl, Emerald, is working with the White Fang. She tried to kill me when Wayle interfered, and then when Wayle was about to take care of her Adam interfered. And then she tried to run away so I chased after her, but just when it looked like I had gotten her that stupid bird showed up." Ruby started explaining, almost rambling towards the end.
Yang looked at her and nodded her head a little while she processed the information before realisation struck her like a bolt from clear sky. "THAT BITCH! I'm going to kill her! I'm going to turn her into little pulp for trying to hurt my little sister!" Then she roared. She didn't shout, she didn't scream, she roared, her hair seemingly setting on fire and her eyes turning red.
"Yang, calm down, we have greater problems, amongst them a massive breach through which the Grimm have been pouring into the city. They will need to be dealt with, soon." Wayle's eyes narrowed as he looked into the distance. "So many, too many to deal with normally…" The last part was muttered lowly, most likely not meant for them.
Things might have started to stabilise, but the situation was still precarious. Something needed to be done, or they would be overrun…
Author's notes: Over forty chapters. So much has happened, and I very much appreciate all the favourites and reviews, thanks guys! You're awesome! I hope you will continue to appreciate my story and give more feedback. Because feedback is really nice.
I have noticed Necrofantasia going on about Wayle's Lightsaber, but quite frankly I feel like Wayle would find Gram more useful. Sure, the Lightsaber has higher cutting power. What it doesn't have is Dust that enables it to create ice or fire or any other of a myriad effects. That's not to say he'll never use it of course, just that using it isn't really superior to Gram. I just wanted to put that out there, not just for Necrofantasia but also for anyone else who wondered about it. And no, Latune does not have Wayle's Lightsaber, that's a new one.
Also, last chapter I tried to ask a question about my ideas for new stories, mainly wanting input on what sounds better. Although I can understand if there is insufficient information about the two ideas for any proper opinions. Should I just start a pool? Explain the two ideas somewhere and have a pool? Or I could just do whatever I want to I suppose...
But I digress, I hope you enjoyed and that you have a nice day.
