Chapter 5: A World of Remnant
Narrator: Akira and Jin reappeared in what appears to be a new location entirely.
Jin: Where are we? What happened to Xiaoyu? And everyone else?
Akira: I'm not sure. But I assure you we will get to the bottom of this.
Narrator: Akira stared at the sky and noticed that the moon was shattered on one side, with bits flying in the sky.
Akira: Where are we?
Jin: And why does the moon look like that?
Akira: I'm not sure. But I think we need to have a look around. Maybe someone here can tell us where we are.
Jin: Good idea.
Akira: Also. You may want to revert. A form such as that... would probably scare people here.
Narrator: Jin reverted to his original form and put on his hoodie.
Jin: Let's go.
Narrator: Akira and Jin started walking across a barren wasteland, when suddenly they were attacked by dark creatures.
Akira: What are these things?
?: Get down!
Narrator: At that moment 4 girls with weapons landed in front of Akira and Jin. One of them fired several bullets at the dark creatures, killing them in a matter of seconds.
?: Are you two alright? It's dangerous for two Huntsmen like yourselves to be out here on your own.
Akira: Huntsmen? What are those? And who are you guys?
?: I suppose we should introduce ourselves. But first let's get out of here before more Grimm appear.
Narrator: Akira and Jin followed the four girls to a nearby town.
Ruby Rose: My name is Ruby Rose.
Weiss: Weiss Schnee. It's a pleasure to meet you.
Blake: Blake Belladonna. Hope we all get along.
Yang: Hi! I'm Yang Xiao Long!
Narrator: Akira folded his arms and chuckled a bit.
Akira: My name is Akira Shirogane. Thanks for helping us back there. Also... what were those beasts out there?
Ruby: Oh. You mean the Grimm. They are attracted to feelings of negativity and hatred.
Jin: I see. I think they were attracted to me. After what I've been through up until now... I have every right to be filled with hatred and anger.
Akira: We can't verify that. We are not from this world, Ruby. Just trying to find a way back home.
Ruby: Do you know how you got here? Maybe that may be your ticket going back.
Akira: See... that's the thing. It happens at random, so I don't have any idea how it works or when it occurs.
Blake: Well since you are here... Might as well get accustomed to things here.
Weiss: Don't you have weapons? It's dangerous to be out there without them.
Narrator: Akira unsheathed two swords from their hilts.
Akira: These swords have been with me for a while, but they have been in deep slumber for quite a while.
Yang: Deep slumber? What are you talking about? Are you suggesting that your swords are alive?
Akira: That is precisely what I'm saying. Tsubasa, Tengu! Wake up!
Narrator: The two swords transformed into two spirits hovering beside Akira.
Tsubasa: *yawn* That was some nap.
Tengu: It's been awhile, Akira. I hope things are well.
Akira: I'm doing okay.
Narrator: Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang stared at Tsubasa and Tengu with horrified expressions.
Ruby: So... your weapons are spirits?
Akira: Mhm. They are close friends of mine.
Blake: That's kind of disturbing if you don't mind me saying so.
Akira: Says the girl with the cat ears. By the way are those real or are you cosplaying for something?
Narrator: Blake stared at Akira with a puzzled look on her face.
Blake: Cosplay? What is that?
Akira: Never mind.
Blake: Just to clarify... I'm a Faunus. Beast-like humanoids if you will.
Akira: I see. So, you have the abilities of a cat then?
Blake: I guess.
Tsubasa: Wait... where are we, Akira? Where are the others?
Narrator: Akira explained everything to Tsubasa and Tengu.
Tengu: A unknown entitly vaporizing people with light beams. I think I've heard of a being like that.
Tsubasa: I think I have as well. Although we need to learn more about these unknown adversaries.
Akira: I agree, Tsubasa.
Narrator: Akira turned to Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang.
Akira: Will you help us? For far worse things will happen to this world and others if we do not act.
Ruby: Sure, why not? I have a feeling this is all Salem's doing.
Akira: Salem?
?: I believe I can answer that for you.
Narrator: A short boy with a cane approached Akira, along with a bunch of other people following close behind him.
Akira: Who are you? And-
Narrator: At that moment... Akira froze where he stood.
Jin: Akira! What's wrong with him?
?: Your friend must have sensed Ozpin.
Narrator: Akira shook his head and stared at the boy with the cane.
Akira: There is another being inside this boy.
Ruby: That other being is our headmaster Ozpin.
Akira: Wait... what?
Weiss: It's complicated to explain.
Akira: Actually, I think I understand. What is the name of the boy?
Oscar: My name is Oscar Pine.
Akira: Pleased to meet you, Oscar. I'm Akira Shirogane. May I speak to Ozpin, please?
Oscar: Of course.
Narrator: Oscar's eye color changed from a calm hazel into a solid gold.
Ozpin: You wished to speak with me?
Akira: Yes. I'm guessing you have been overhearing the conversation just now. Care to shed a little light on this?
Ozpin: I've never heard of a being that can vaporize people with light beams. Do you know where this thing comes from?
Akira: No idea. It just showed up and just vaporized everyone in the last world I was in. I fear the same thing may befall this world.
Narrator: At that moment, the sky turned dark.
Akira: Oh no... We need to go. We need to go now!
Ozpin: Why?
Akira: Cause if you don't... that thing will vaporize you with its light beams.
Ozpin: That is bad. Everyone! We need to go now!
Narrator: A voice rang through Akira's head.
?: Galeem... Escape from... Galeem...
Akira: (Galeem... Is that what that... thing is called. Can't think about that now. I must get these people to safety!)
Narrator: The pillars of light crashed into the buildings, causing bits and pieces of cinderblock to fall upon the citizens below.
Akira: Ruby! Make sure that your team and the others get someplace underground!
Ruby: Will do! Everyone follow me!
Narrator: Ruby and the others jumped into an underground vent, until Akira was the only one left to face Galeem.
Akira: (Ruby and the others escaped safely... I will stop it here!)
Narrator: Once again, the voice rung in Akira's head.
?: You cannot defeat him... not at your current strength... Allies from other worlds you will need to fight Galeem and save the worlds.
Akira: (I guess I'll join Ruby and the others.)
Narrator: Akira jumped down the underground vent, closing it behind him. Ruby and the others were waiting for him.
Ruby: I know this may sound crazy but... did you hear a voice in your head telling you that thing's name?
Akira: Yes, I did. Galeem...
Blake: What does it want?
Akira: I'm not sure, to be honest. All I know is that those beams that were fired vaporize anything it touches... including humans.
Yang: That's weird... I didn't hear a voice in my head.
Blake: Neither did I.
Weiss: Nor me.
Ozpin: Akira and Ruby are the only ones who can hear this voice. Whether this voice to be friend or foe, we must proceed forward and find the means to stop this Galeem once and for all.
Akira: If there IS a a way to- Wait... Where is Jin?
Ruby: I think Galeem got him. Jin flew up and tried to stop Galeem but got caught in a light beam.
Akira: Damn it!
Ozpin: There's nothing we can do now. Except hope for the best that there is a way to save everyone that was captured by Galeem. Akira, did the voice by any chance explain how do to defeat Galeem?
Akira: All the voice said was: "Allies you will need from other worlds to defeat Galeem".
Yang: Is that all there is to it? In that case, I'll be your ally. You can't defeat that thing alone... none of us can.
Akira: You're right.
Blake: I will help as well.
Weiss: As will I.
Narrator: At that moment, four orbs floated above Akira... One red, one white, one yellow and one black.
Ruby: What are those orbs?
Akira: Not sure myself.
Narrator: The voice rang in Akira's head again.
?: (These orbs are a fraction of their power. Their skills and memories are stored within. Use them to defeat Galeem and restore peace to the worlds.)
Narrator: The four orbs flew inside Akira's body; his mind being filled with the memories and Ruby and the others.
Akira: I saw everything... every adventure you've had up till now.
Ruby: Those orbs did all that? Showing our memories with you?
Akira: It's strange, I know. However, I can use these memories to my advantage. All your battles and skills... I can learn from them. Maybe improve on my own techniques as well.
Weiss: I guess that's good to know. If you have our memories, then you should know how to use our weapons.
Akira: I suppose. But I think it's about a good time as any to make a new weapon.
Tsubasa: And we can make it stronger. Right, Akira?
Akira: Of course, Tsubasa. Both you and Tengu can help enhance my new weapon. Is there any place where I can make a new weapon?
Ruby: Not that I know of.
Weiss: I wouldn't know... I made my own weapon. With the help of my sister of course.
Yang: I wouldn't know either. Maybe we will find someone who can help you forge a new weapon.
Blake: I think that would be a good idea.
Akira: I guess we can put that on hold for now. For now, let's find shelter away from Galeem.
Narrator: Akira and the others walked deeper into the large underground vents until they saw a flicker of light ahead.
Akira: I'll scout ahead and see if it's safe.
Narrator: Akira ran ahead to a small crevice in the wall and peered outside. The pillars of light slamming into people, vaporizing everyone it hits.
Akira: Things are looking worse out there. We should keep moving.
Ruby: At least we have an idea of who we are fighting against.
Akira: Wait... something else is happening.
Narrator: Grey-like humanoids emerge from the pillars of light, with glowing red eyes.
Akira: Galeem is making puppets of everyone. Everyone that he has captured... This isn't looking good.
Narrator: Ruby and the others stare outside with looks of shock and horror.
Ruby: Everyone we know... has been captured... and turned into puppets.
Yang: We must help them... We can't leave them like this!
Akira: And what do you propose we do? If you go out there... you will be turned into one of them. I will not allow that to happen!
Narrator: Yang's eyes flared a violent red and stared angrily at Akira.
Yang: THEN WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE WE DO!?
Narrator: Akira turned towards Yang and grabbed her by the neck.
Akira: Stay the hell safe. Unless you think you can take Galeem on your own. Feel free to do so. And don't ever raise your voice at me ever again.
Narrator: Akira released Yang.
Yang: *cough* So... what is the plan?
Akira: For now, we gather information about Galeem and what he can really do. Cause as of now... I feel we've only scratched the surface of what Galeem can fully do. We need to find a place to have a proper place to regroup and plan.
Narrator: A man with a flask in his hand approached Akira.
?: I think I can help in that regard.
Akira: Who are you?
Ruby: UNCLE QROW! You survived!
Qrow: Naturally. It would seem a couple of people survived as well. Just what is that thing out there?
Akira: Galeem.
Qrow: Okay, so what do we know about this Galeem?
Akira: All we know is that Galeem vaporizes people and creates puppet-like versions of those he captures.
Qrow: Okay. I thought this was the work of Salem, but this is way worse.
Akira: Who is Salem?
Qrow: She's the Queen of the Grimm. Those dark creatures out there. I'm sure you've seen them.
Akira: Yeah, I've seen a couple of them. Ruby and her team saved me from them. There was another person with me but... I'm led to believe that he was captured by Galeem.
Qrow: I'm sure you'll find your friend eventually. For now, let's everyone to safety and away from Galeem.
Akira: I have a sinking feeling that Galeem won't stop until we are all under his control. But I feel that he's doing this for a reason.
Qrow: Any idea why?
Akira: No but I hope to get to the bottom of it.
Qrow: Alright. But there is a base with other refugees that I've gathered. They should be safe there until we find better arrangements.
Akira: Okay. Lead the way, Qrow.
Narrator: Qrow led Akira and the others to a flight of stairs which lead to several tents housing several refugees, huddled together in fear.
Akira: I can sense their fear. Most of them have lost their loved ones in the destruction that Galeem and his puppets have caused.
Ruby: How sad... Is there nothing we can do to stop Galeem?
Weiss: It's just as Akira said... We need to come up with a plan to defeat Galeem and restore everything to normal.
Yang: If there is a way...
Narrator: Akira stared at Yang and then to the scared refugees.
Akira: There must be a way. I made a promise and I intend to keep it.
Qrow: By the way... Akira. Do you think you can help with the injured here? We need all hands-on deck to make sure the refugees are in good shape.
Akira: Sure. Lead the way, Qrow.
Narrator: Qrow led Akira to a large tent in the center, where several injured civilians were on their beds, groaning in pain.
Akira: It's worse than I feared... I'll get started right away.
Narrator: Akira walked to the nearest bed and touched the civilian in the arm. In a matter of seconds, the injuries went away.
Akira: Can you stand?
Civilian (1): Yeah. Maybe more rest is needed so I can help more. Thank you.
Akira: Anytime.
Narrator: Within minutes... the civilians were all healed up and resting in their beds soundly.
Akira: And that should be all of them.
Qrow: Thanks, Akira.
Akira: No problem.
Narrator: A bunch of kids approached Akira and handed him a pendant with a green rock.
Akira: Is this for me?
Kid (1): It's our way of thanking you for helping us. If it weren't for you... most of us wouldn't be alive right now.
Akira: Glad I could help.
Narrator: Akira picked up one of the kids and put them on his back.
Kid (2): Yay! Piggyback ride!
Qrow: It would seem you are popular with the kids. In times like these, they need someone to be with them. Most of these kids lost their parents during the destruction that transpired.
Akira: These kids deserve better. When this is all over... we should change all that.
Qrow: Well I'll help anyway that I can. We all will.
Akira: Thank you.
Narrator: Qrow and Akira bumped fists, grinning at each other.
