A/N: Okay, so I said I was only going to post once a day, but I was so excited to share this after months of work, that I posted twice... So I think that's going to be the schedule for this one.

Here is our beautiful main character Edythe's backstory, the one I had to do the most research for. So, this one I did change how Edythe grew up. In Edward's story, we learn that he grew up quite rich, but as I was doing research on Spanish Influenza, I found that most of the people that got it were soldiers and immigrants, who were both living in tight quarters, and therefore the disease spread quicker.

Also, the symptoms of the disease are so horrible…but I shouldn't talk about that, or I'll ramble more.

Oh! One more thing! If anyone knows Italian, please tell me if mine is correct! I have an Italian grandmother who speaks both that and English basically at the same time, but that's about the extent of my knowledge.

EXT. FOREST, CHICAGO, IL, 1918 – DAY

The tall trees are silent except for the CHIRPING of birds. Text on screen reads:

Edythe Antonia Masen, Jr.

Chicago, IL

1918

EDYTHE MASEN, JR. [also known as EDYTHE CULLEN] stalks through the trees, wearing a white blouse, knee length tweed pants, and a tweed vest. She has heeled boots on, a case of arrows strapped to her back, and a bow, with an arrow drawn, is held in her hand. Edythe, Jr. has long auburn hair, and is a very beautiful teenage girl who tends to seem smug or angered by many things. Her seldom-seen smile is crooked, her skin is pale and her eyes are green. A RUSTLING of the leaves startles her. Edythe, Jr. turns around and fires an arrow into a tree with a CLUNK. ELIJAH MASEN, her father, stands next to the pierced tree, his hands up in surrender. Elijah looks quite similar to Edythe, Jr., with the same hair and eye color. He is middle-aged Irish man, and wears a simple suit for the time period.

ELIJAH
Whoa! It's just me.

Edythe, Jr. lowers the bow. Elijah puts his hands in his pockets.

EDYTHE, JR.
I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was you.

ELIJAH
It's all right. I just came to tell you that your mother's about to come home, so you should probably come and get changed.

EDYTHE
Of course. I'll be right there.

Elijah turns and walks back through the forest. Edythe, Jr. walks over to the tree and yanks the arrow out of it.

INT. MASEN APARTMENT

The room is small, with two beds pushed up against one wall and a tiny kitchen on another. A table sits in the middle of the room, with three shabby chairs around it. Two doors sit in the walls. BANGING and SHOUTING can be heard. Edythe, Elijah, and EDYTHE MASEN, SR. sit at a table, eating dinner silently. Elijah reads a newspaper. Edythe, Sr. is a middle-aged, Italian woman with long dark hair. Edythe, Jr. now wears her white blouse with a long skirt.

EDYTHE, SR.
So, what did you do today, Edythe?

Edythe, Jr. and Elijah exchange a look.

EDYTHE, JR.
I took a walk with some friends.

EDYTHE, SR.
Well, that sounds like fun.

EDYTHE, JR.
It was.

ELIJAH
Did you hear about the new cases?

EDYTHE, JR.
For Spanish flu?

ELIJAH
Mm-hm.

Edythe, Sr. stands and clears the empty plates to the sink. She puts her hands on her hips.

EDYTHE, SR.
Not now, Elijah. It's nothing for a young lady to hear about.

ELIJAH
She should know.

EDYTHE, JR.
Mamma, dovrei sapere.

[Mom, I should know.]

EDYTHE, SR.
Sei troppo giovane, figlia mia.

[You're too young, my daughter.]

Edythe, Jr. sighs, annoyed, then stands.

EDYTHE, JR.
Posso gestirlo.

[I can handle it.]

Edythe, Jr. sits, then turns to Elijah.

EDYTHE, JR. (CONT'D)
Continue, Papà.

ELIJAH
I have no idea what either of you just said, but your mother's right. You're only seventeen, you don't have to worry about this. Now, can you help your
(heavy American accent)
madre
(normal voice)
clean up?

Edythe, Jr. laughs shakily.

EDYTHE, JR.
Sì, Papà.

Edythe, Jr. stands and walks over to Edythe, Sr., who has begun to wash the dishes in the sink. The water that comes out it slightly brown. Edythe, Jr. puts her arms around Edythe, Sr.'s waist and puts her head on her shoulder.

EDYTHE, JR. (CONT'D)
Mi dispiace, Mamma.

[I'm sorry, Mom.]

EDYTHE, SR.
Va tutto bene, mio dolce.

[It's all right, my sweet.]

Edythe, Sr. kisses the top of Edythe, Jr.'s head, then clears her throat as she turns back to the dishes.

EDYTHE, JR.
Ti senti bene?

[Do you feel all right?]

EDYTHE, SR.
Solo un po'di mal di testa. Sto bene.

[Just a little headache. I'm all right.]

EDYTHE, JR.
Non vuoi dire mal di gola?

[Don't you mean sore throat?]

EDYTHE, SR.
Perché?

[Why?]

EDYTHE, JR.
You cleared your throat.

EDYTHE, SR.
All right, I have a sore throat, too. I'm all right, mia dolce, I promise.

EXT. CEMETERY – DAY

It's pouring rain out. Stone graves stand in rows, some with flowers in front of them. Edythe, Jr. and Elijah stand, crying, in all black, and in front of a grave. Elijah holds an umbrella over himself and Edythe, Jr. Edythe, Jr. has a wooden rosary and handkerchief in her hands. The grave in front of them reads:

EDYTHE ANTONIA MASEN I
1880-1918
Beloved wife and mother

Edythe, Jr. coughs into the handkerchief. Blood soaks through the thin fabric. She notices, but hides it quickly.

EXT. MAKESHIFT HOSPITAL - NIGHT [ESTABLISHING]

The hospital is small and rugged, but sturdy.

INT. HALLWAY

Carine walks down the hall in a nurse's uniform. She turns the corner into another section.

INT. DYING WARD

Dozens of cots with DYING PEOPLE on them sit in rows. Edythe, Jr. and Elijah are two of them. Their fevers run high and sweat drips down their slightly blue faces. Mahogany patches sit above their cheekbones. Elijah tries to get up and go over to Edythe, Jr., but he can barely walk. Carine enters and urges Elijah back to the cot.

ELIJAH
Save her!

Carine takes Elijah's hand.

CARINE
I'll do everything in my power.

ELIJAH
You must. You must do everything in your power. What others cannot do, that is what you must do for my Edythe.

Elijah falls unconscious. Carine glances at Edythe, Jr. Carine wheels Edythe's cot out of the large room.

INT. HALLWAY

Carine wheels the cot into the morgue.

INT. MORGUE

Carine picks human Edythe up and carries her out through the back door.

EXT. ROOFTOPS – NIGHT

Carine carries human Edythe across rooftops.

INT. BEDROOM, CARINE'S HOUSE

The room is dark. A bed sits in the middle of the room, two nightstands on either side. An armoire is up against one wall. Carine sets an unconscious human Edythe on a nearby bed and sits in a chair next to it. Carine picks up Edythe's limp arm and bites her wrist. Edythe SCREAMS in pain.

INT. BEDROOM, TWO DAYS LATER

Carine sits in a chair next to the bed, where Edythe is squirming in pain. Carine takes her hand.

CARINE
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Edythe's eyes fly open, glowing red. She gasps. Edythe flinches out of Carine's grasp with inhuman speed. She jumps off the bed and runs across the room [inhuman speed] so that her back is to the wall.

EDYTHE
Yes, that's my name.

CARINE
I...didn't...say anything.

EDYTHE
I heard you. You said, "How should I calm Edythe down?" That's my name. Edythe Masen.

CARINE
I never said that. But I was thinking about it.

EDYTHE
What are you talking about?

Carine closes her eyes, pulling her eyebrows together in concentration. Edythe's hand flies up to her throat.

EDYTHE (CONT'D)
Oh, great. Thank you for reminding me.

Edythe breathes heavily, glancing around the room. She SNARLS quietly.

CARINE
Right. We'll discuss this later.

A/N: Done! This one was interesting to work with, because I had to somehow put in Edythe discovering her mind reading without doing another time jump...

Anyway, next up is the father of all fathers: Earnest Platt.
