They had waited till night fell, biding their time, fiddling a bit with their bonds and the lock, but not enough to draw attention.
And now it was time, with a casual flick of her wrists her bonds fell off, and in one smooth motion she had freed her partner.
A bit of fiddling with her hair, some liberal application of Aura and no small amount of skill later and the lock to their cell clicked open.
To say that the emerald haired teen was confident in her ability to open any lock was quite the understatement.
Carefully opening the door she made sure not to be immediately noticed by the guards as they switched shifts.
Stealthily slipping out while their attention wavered they made sure to close the door behind them.
But there was a problem. While neither of them had seen any surveillance equipment, they found it hard to believe there was none.
Chances were they had already been noticed.
Trusting to their luck they moved, waiting until the previous guard had left before ambushing his replacement.
She temporarily entertained the thought to release any other prisoners, but she saw no way to do so quickly, and there was no reason that would delay pursuit. More likely it would only hasten it as the risk someone dangerous deciding to deal with the problem increased.
Instead they moved on, as swiftly as they could while remaining stealthy.
"No alarms yet, that's a good sign." Mercury stated dryly behind her.
"We don't know that, they might be using a silent alarm of some sort. For all we know Subbota and their covert ops could be descending upon us right now." She retorted in a hushed voice.
There would be no need for disturbing everyone with that kind of people around.
Still, she wouldn't let them get the drop on her this time.
Her silver haired accomplice indicated a door just ahead. She nodded and they burst through.
There was two guards inside, but Emerald and Mercury wasn't able to follow Cinder to Beacon for nothing. Even unarmed the two of them were capable enough, and with surprise on their side the guards were quickly dealt with.
There were no other exits in this room, yet that was irrelevant, for that was part of their plan. Because in here was where Mercury had found out their equipment was stored.
She quickly set to work on the secure locker inside. It was tough, but she had gotten through tougher.
The only problem was that there was no time.
Finally she got it open, and they were rewarded with their beloved weapons. She smiled in satisfaction.
This smile turned into a frown as she realised it would take Mercury too long to get his boots on, and they had no time to waste.
"No time! Let's go!" She hissed and pulled him along by the collar, not even letting him start.
It seemed like he was about to say something, but a glare from her caused him to reconsider and simply start running. They didn't have much time, because sooner or later someone would notice something.
And when they did chances were the Army of Union would move to block their escape.
Through some unbelievable fortune they managed to get all the way to the exit on the next floor unhindered.
Of course, this was no source of relief, but rather cause for worry, because Emerald still remembered the trap set for her group.
And of course, for all they knew through this door might stand an entire squadron of Paladins.
Hesitantly she tried the door. Locked.
Was it because they had been discovered or was it some kind of curfew?
She had no time to ponder this question.
Instead she checked its make, as well as the lock.
An electronic lock using a passcode…
Not to mention a perfect seal, leaving no way to reach the lock itself.
Well shit… Of course this door was actually proper.
With no time for finesse, she resorted to a little trick she had learned.
Using this she bypassed the locking mechanism, forcing the door to open.
Of course, if there were any alarms on the door, they would be triggered.
But they had no time to worry about that now. There was no way they hadn't been discovered yet, and now they could make a beeline for the outside.
The door slid open, and they rushed out, making for the nearest wall at full speed.
Around them they saw people rushing about inside the buildings, but there was still no one actually outside yet…
Even as this thought crossed her mind her senses screamed at her, and she threw herself to the side, narrowly evading a chop that would have left her unconscious… again.
Rolling she came up on her feet instantly, just in time to stop a follow up attack on Mercury.
The person standing before her might have been wearing a different uniform, and her face hidden by a deep hood, but Emerald knew better.
This was most certainly the woman that had knocked her out before, formerly one of the most talented spies in the White Fang. Someone that even her or Torchwick couldn't get the drop on.
And also someone they couldn't just outrun.
She gave a bitter grin.
This might be difficult…
"Mercury! Run! I'll hold her off!" She shouted and shoved him away.
Her partner stared at her dumbfounded for a few moments, the question clear in his features.
But the guy was smarter than that, and he quickly realised that it would be easier for her to give this opponent the slip, while he would be better served to just run.
Besides, he was unarmed right now, Emerald wasn't.
So he ran.
The cat Faunus tried to stop him, but Emerald got in the way.
"Oh no, you're going to have to deal with me."
"I see." The hooded Faunus said coldly as she drew her blade. Sharp, straight and single bladed, it was but a sword.
Yet Emerald wouldn't be fooled that easily. There was no way that was all there was to this person.
So she readied her Kusari-Gamas and took a stance.
It was all she could do before a sharp blade came flying for her neck.
Swift, clean and deadly.
What Emerald faced wasn't a Huntress or a Soldier.
No, her opponent was an Assassin. A killer.
She bent backwards, letting the sharp blade pass over her nose as she swung her weapons, scythes attached to chains leaping out to drive the assailant back, or better yet, kill her.
And yet there was nothing there.
Emerald didn't stop, letting herself go through a full flip.
It proved a wise decision as the place where her legs had previously been was pierced by sharp knives.
No, not knives. Kunai.
Weapons few favoured because of their low effectiveness against Grimm. Of course, against Humans or Faunus…
The dark-skinned thief continued the dance towards the outer wall, weaving a wall of blades and chains to keep her opponent at bay, creating a space that she couldn't enter.
-Break—
Mercury was slightly out of breath as he jumped onto the wall, taking a sentry by surprise.
Stopping for a short while to look at the situation, he realised there were no sentries near him.
Turning around he looked out over the compound he had just escaped. Flashes of green told him where Emerald was fighting the woman that tried to stop them.
He breathed a sigh of relief as he realised the reinforcing Army of Union members were headed towards him instead of trying to help the spy and assassin with his partner.
And his hopes soared as a well-placed kick drove the frailer woman away, with Emerald preparing for her get away.
But even as his hopes soared an unidentifiable dread gripped him.
His eyes roamed, trying desperately to figure out why…
There was no way the people moving towards him could stop her, she could just go in another direction…
Then why?
Then his hope came crashing down as his dread reached new heights as a new figure emerged.
Even from here he could see Emerald's eyes widen in fear and recognition.
They had known that there was little doubt he was connected to the Army of Union, and yet…
They hadn't seen him anywhere, and he should have been at Beacon…
But now he was here, a feeling of dread rolling off him like a cloak, causing even the more distant Mercury to shiver slightly.
He watched as Emerald fired upon the figure.
Terror enveloped him as that person neither dodged nor parried the shots, instead having them bounce off an unseen defence as he simply walked forwards.
The green-haired street-rat turned to run, but for some reason she couldn't move, instead being forced towards the approaching figure.
The silver-haired teen could see his partner struggle, waving her hands and legs, trying in wain to find some way to stop her motion.
He was shaken back to reality as soldiers started filling the space between them, led by another familiar figure.
A massive man that was once one of their best Lieutenants.
He no longer had much of a choice.
He could either stay and struggle in wain to save her, or he could run.
The last he saw of her as he leapt of the wall was how her struggles stopped as she seemingly lost consciousness…
It was a shame.
She was actually really hot.

"So. Can anyone tell me why those two made it so far?" Wayle's voice rang out across the yard.
"Forgive me my Lord, by the time I was alerted they had already opened the door out." Felis answered as she kneeled.
"And why was this? How come Felis was not informed earlier? And why did you not rouse Latune?" A hint of annoyance was clear in his voice.
"I didn't feel it was worth rousing Miss Subbota. I overestimated my capability to deal with it myself." The cat-Faunus bowed her head deeper in apology.
"As for the late warning, I beg forgiveness. I didn't realise our security needed seeing over and-"The massive bear-Faunus known simply as 'The Captain' continued as he kneeled down besides his fellow officer.
"That is not your job Captain, there is no need for you to apologize for matters not yours to bear." The young Lord cut him off, waving off his apology.
The man simply gave a shout of affirmation as he bowed his head deeper.
"There is no need for you to kneel. Rise." Wayle said imperiously.
As the two rose he headed into the large building the two had attempted to escape from, the Captain picking up the unconscious form of Emerald Sustrai.
"Then, my Lord, what are your plans?" Felis asked as the two followed their liege.
"First, I am going to have a chat with the person responsible for security this night, then…" The sure and strong voice faltered slightly. He sighed. "Then I am going to extract the information I want."
Even if his voice faltered, his steps did not, and they led him unerringly to the security room.
With a simple gesture the door that was supposed to be locked slid open, yet neither of the two following said anything, for they knew part of the door's design had been prepared by the Sith personally.
Therefore, it wasn't odd to them that he knew a way to open it quickly compared to others. Besides, to them it was a testament to his skill that he could operate a hidden mechanism with telekinesis, knowledge of its location or not.
What met them inside was a disgraceful sight. The Faunus male that was in charge startled awake by the door opening, and it was clear that he had been asleep the entire debacle.
"Wait… Is it time to change alrea-"Even as he was about to say those words his eyes widened as he realised who had entered.
He also realised that the alarm had been set off while he had been asleep.
At that moment he realised that he had fucked up royally.
And as such, there was only one line that fit the situation.
"Shit."
And he uttered it with a look of utter despair, because now that he was awake he also registered the Dark Side aura of his Lord, and realised that he was in deeper trouble than what he thought possible…
Author's notes: Well, poor Emerald... At least Mercury got away... Actually, poor Mercury too. For reasons that will soon be revealed. Also, poor nameless grunt, he's currently doing breaststrokes through a sea of shit(Not litteraly, although I'm not sure exactly how he will be punished, suggestions?). But yeah, please review, tell your opinion, give suggestions, point out mistakes... I'm certain you all know the drill by now.
I hope you enjoyed and that you have a nice day.
