Chapter 1: To UA High School

To say that today is an ordinary day was an absolute misjudgment, for Nagisa Shiota, that is. It wasn't exactly special, per se, but it was not that normal either.

"I'm leaving now, mom, dad!" He called for his parents as he put his shoes on and readied himself to leave the house.

"Take care, Nagisa!" His mom called from the kitchen.

It had been almost two months since their graduation had commenced and his parents decided to try again with their relationship. So far, all is good and Nagisa couldn't ask for anything else.

It was silent as he walked casually, away from their apartment complex. Contemplating all the possibilities that today might bring him.

"Hey! Nagisa! Good morning!" Nagisa halted at the sound of the familiar voice of a boy his age that lived two doors away from his family's apartment.

He turned around to face the said boy and offered him a smile. "Good morning to you too, Izuku." He then politely bowed to excuse himself and started on his path to the train station. But before he could even go any farther, Izuku was already matching his pace and was asking.

"Where are you headed?"

Nagisa didn't mind the presence of the greenette and he wasn't against him joining his walk to the station. Besides, Izuku was a good kid, they went to the same elementary school and were friends, just not very close especially after getting separated in middle school.

"Musutafu." Nagisa replied. "I'm about to take some kind of entrance test for a High School."

"Musutafu? What school?"

Nagisa paused for a moment, hesitating whether he could tell it to the boy or not. However, realizing that it won't matter he replied; "UA High School."

Izuku halted and took a very deep gasp of shock. "Really? What course? I got into UA too. The entrance exam results just came last week, I got into the Hero Course."

"What? Really?" It was Nagisa's time to be surprised, but he quickly regained his composure. "Congrats, Izuku. Well, I'm kind of surprised though, you made it past the entrance exam despite of being quirkless. That's an awesome feat."

Nagisa have always known that Izuku was quirkless, well they kind of grew up together. They live just a few doors down from each other.

"Uhm...well, I'm not quirkless anymore."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"You see...uhm...well..." Nagisa was sensing the obvious struggle and hesitations from Izuku's voice but he did not comment on it. "I...uh...I developed my quirk late. I'm a late bloomer... so..." Izuku chuckled, "lucky though, I discovered it before the entrance exam."

A year with the assassination classroom and his whole life living with his mother had made him sensitive to people's emotions. He learned to read people's emotional state, like he was actually seeing their brainwaves. Through time, he learned to adapt with it, little by little. And he just knew, that there's something else behind Izuku's words. Lies? Maybe? Nagisa wasn't sure. Somehow it was logical enough, believable; or maybe Izuku was just able to hide it good. But, Nagisa knew that there was something else.

"Oh, really? How was it?" In the end, Nagisa decided that he doesn't want to pry and he had no reasons to. Lucky for him though, he was able to make Izuku talk and stir him with questions about the exam, his life and his late developed quirk; the greenette hadn't notice that Nagisa didn't answer his question about what course the blue-eyed kid is to take.

Their conversation went smoothly, mostly catching up with each other's life. Both boys obviously avoiding some things to be spilled. Nagisa, throughout their whole talk had noticed Izuku struggling to reel himself about something. A question perhaps that he wanted to ask the bluenette but didn't know how to.

He decided to just ask his friend about it. "Something's bothering you, Izuku. What was it?"

"Uhm...well...you...uhm...about your class?" Nagisa faltered in his steps. He wasn't expecting that, well he guess, he should've. The news about the Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School was all over the country. The government and recent villain events have at least toned down the fuss a bit, but sometimes, he just forgets that they indeed made the news.

"We're all doing fine. If that's what you wanna ask." And the fact that the news portrayed them as victims—as hostages. It didn't sit well with any of the Class E students, Korosensei portrayed as a bad villain, but what's done is done. The only option left was to go through with it.

"How--"

"Oh, Izuku, there's the station. I better go now. Bye." Nagisa tried his best not to seem like he wanted to run away and avoid any other possible queries about the assassination class.

Izuku however seemed to have bought it. "Oh, right. Goodluck for the test."

Nagisa simply replied with a smile and a small wave of his hand before continuing on his way.

Relief flooded his senses the moment he was seated in the train, away from the questioning of his neighbor and friend.

He roamed his eyes around the other occupants of the train who all seem to not take notice of him. All of them, wrapped to their own little worlds and none seem to recognize him.

Nagisa was at least thankful of that. After the publication of the 'villain' that blew up the moon, and their class' short appearance in a live televised broadcast; Nagisa had worries that his normal life would've ended. He guess all of them did worry being seen as nothing but a hostage. But none of them would also want to take the public's appreciation of killing the target because as far as the society's concerned, killing is illegal.

Although, when the death of Korosensei was publicized, the government have taken measures to explain that the deed was justified. That the villain was supposed to blew up Earth to smithereens like the moon did if he wasn't killed.

It took only an entire night for all of the footages of the news, copies of the newspapers and information in the internet to be thoroughly cleaned by the government and Ritsu.

The government have let a single article and few chosen informations to be put up into the public though, so they could lessen the suspicions. Informations about the hostaged class were nothing but a rumor by now. Most people are starting to feel such huge Mandela Effect, except it really happened, the higher ups just wanted people to forget.

The fact that Izuku still know about it didn't exactly surprised Nagisa. He must have been tuning in the news when their class appeared. Even if the footages were taken down, and even if other people have forgotten their faces already, Izuku Midoriya wouldn't forget that he saw Nagisa on the news. Because, firstly, they're neighbors and basically childhood friends.

Most people within their neighborhood would've probably been the same, but Nagisa was thankful enough that they're not talking about it.

--

It wasn't that long and soon he found himself in the bustling city of Musutafu, standing in a dazed in front of the prestigious High School.

He had always known that UA was a prestigious High School. Nagisa had expected it to be huge; but as he stood in front of its gate below the towering arc that held the stylized logo of the well-known hero school, he felt extremely overwhelmed. He felt so little, he suddenly felt the urge to turn back.

Maybe this is not a good idea. He thought, his features contorting to an anxious grimace.

Attempting to at least settle his slowly growing nerves, he fished out his phone from his pocket and checked on their class' group chat.

Goodluck to you all!

It was the last message sent just a few moments ago by Okuda who opted to turn down the chance at UA. She was very invested to science and even though she wanted to help other people she said she realized she wasn't cut out to be a hero.

She applied to an Academy, somewhere in Hosu with the best Science courses. She got accepted, and Takebayashi was very much the same.

Nagisa reread the other messages sent by his fellow classmates last night just so he could assure himself that he wasn't the only one trying in.

Kurahashi: Guys! Are you ready for tomorrow?

Nakamura: Sort of. I am kind of excited.

Maehara: Meh. Sure we could ace that.

Isogai: You seem confident, Maehara.

Maehara: Of course, there's nothing to be afraid of. We can all face this.

Kataoka: Yeah. We can do this.

Kayano: I'm nervous and excited, I don't know if I could sleep tonight.

Isogai: You need to sleep.

Hara: Yeah, better make sure you're well rested

Hara: and fed.

Ritsu: Let's do our best, everyone!

"Yo! Nagisa!" He was cut off from his musings by that familiar voice. Nagisa looked up from his phone to smile at his best friend and classmate who is now walking casually towards him.

"Hey, Karma." He greeted the redhead who gave him a teasing smug smirk.

"Don't tell me, you're thinking of chickening out of this?"

Nagisa sweatdropped at his friend's bluntness. "Well, it wasn't exactly supposed to be too easy and exciting." He paused for a moment, glancing up at the logo above the arc. "It's really surprising that we have recommendations for the hero course and the UA board get on with it. I mean, they barely to never really accepted quirkless individuals for the hero course, and it's not just in UA it goes for every academy that offers the hero course."

"That's why we're getting tested for today aren't we? To see if we really could handle the course. The government or Mr. Karasuma, I think, might've put in good words about us."

At the reminder that they're getting tested, Nagisa suddenly felt worse. "Getting tested. Ugh, Karma...that didn't help."

The mischievous redhead chuckled at his predicament. "What's wrong? You passed in a High School already. UA is pretty much just an option by now."

Realization hit Nagisa softly. Right, I've applied and passed to a High School already. He was surprised that he had forgotten. After Mr. Karasuma had broken down their recommendations last week, Nagisa had kind of forgotten the fact that he was already up for a good high school.

He actually saw UA as a path for him. The realization of this thought surprised him.

"I understand how you feel." The suddenness of the words cut Nagisa off from his thoughts. He looked back to Karma who is starting to walk through the gates. "Come along now, Nagisa. We don't want to be late."

"Right." And off he go, following closely behind his redhead friend.
