Hello Everyone! Knightmare here! And I'm here with a new Fanfic. This one being based on another TikTok tag I'm a part of, and is full of many lovely people I call friends and family. Anyway, not to spoil more let's get on with the Fic!
New Daybreak Town was quiet. Many Wielders, who made up the Light Protectors, were off doing their own things. Some on missions, others on personal errands, save for four.
Ashley, a young Wind-user. Her blonde hair went past her shoulders, with violet eyes that always had a mischievous glint to them. She was almost always in a yellow-tinted dress, that worked in combat, and black fingerless gloves to grip her Keyblade. A silver necklace was around her neck.
Keval, a Lightning-user. He had short, spiked blond hair. His hazel eyes were filled with hope and honesty. He was always wearing a white muscle shirt, under a red and black jacket. Red shorts completed his ensemble.
Laci, a young Fire-user, and alchemist. Her pink and lilac hair was always in pigtails and behind steampunk goggles. Her light brown eyes always seemed to be sparked with an idea. Her outfit consisted of a burgundy blouse, a corset, and a long dark skirt. She wore a necklace she received from her friends long ago.
And Tenebrae, a Fire-user and former Seeker. His silver hair clashed with his outfit of choice. His red eyes were calculating but caring. His normal attire was that of a black shirt and pants, with a black zip-up hoodie. A pair of biker goggles rest on his chest.
Ashley, Keval and Tenebrae were all hanging around the fountain in town. Tenebrae was there sitting and going over a tome. Ashley and Keval had just finished up a spar and were relaxing. The two leaned on each other, smiling contently.
"Yo! Tenny," Keval called out, "When are you gonna join us for a spar?"
"When you and your fiancé stop acting like lovebirds," Tenebrae replied, without looking up from his book. There was no malice in his voice.
"Aww is someone jealous," Ashley cooed, "That their girlfriend spends more time in her lab, than with him. How cute."
"Hey Shay," he said with a fake smile, "Shut up!"
"Ashley," she corrected him, "Or Ash."
"Or a nuisance," Tenebrae growled, closing his book. "We already knew what mine and her relationship was going to be like. It doesn't change how I feel about her."
"That's all well and good," Keval said. "But have you seen her recently? She hasn't been out of her lab for the better part of a week. You are the only one she allows in there."
Tenebrae tapped his chin to think. "I checked on her yesterday. She said she was on the verge of a breakthrough. I got her to eat before I left."
"How was she looking?" Ashley asked, her and Laci being part of the same Union. "Did she mention the breakthrough she had?"
Tenebrae shook his head. "She was fine and perked up after eating. She didn't mention the experiment, so I think it's those Defense Medals still. Honestly there hasn't been a major explosion, so I say progress."
"You do know the explosions are contained in her lab?" Keval asked, sweating nervously.
"I'm sure everything will be fine," Ashley said, with a smile. "And once she is done, I'm sure Laci will be out to show what she has been working on."
"Hellloooo?" a feminine voice called out. "Is anyone still around?"
"See, what did I tell you?" Ahsley smiled. "Over here Laci, by the fountain."
Laci came jogging up with a huge grin. Even with the soot on her face, she seemed extremely happy. "You guys! I think I made a breakthrough!"
"Oh?" Keval said, he stood up and pulled Ashley in front of him, even though he was the taller of the two. "Do tell Lala."
Ashley giggled and rolled her eyes. "What's the breakthrough Laci?"
"So," Laci took a quick breath, "I have been studying the properties of the Medals we've been using. I cross-referenced many spells, so I knew which ones were being used in the Medals. And thanks to that book found, I was able to break everything down to a more manageable level. Now with all of that…"
"Laci," Tenebrae walked up to the Alchemist, "You may want to slow down. Why not tell us the end results?"
"Yeah," Keval said with a grin, "Not that I wasn't already following."
Ashley just giggled.
Laci pouted, be regained her excitement. "Fiine. Long story short, ta-da!" She pulled out a few blank Medals. Instead of the normal Power, Speed, and Magic crests, these had a shield as the crest. "I made a non-explosive batch. They should work out well if my calculations are right."
"And my guess is you haven't tested them, have you?" Tenebrae asked.
Laci puffed out her chest, looking proud. "I'm confident no tests will be needed. Besides, you had volunteered to be my eternal guinea pig Tenni! So, you get first try."
"Aw how sweet," Ashley said, behind a giggle. "She really does care."
"Shut it!" Tenebrae glared at Ashley. "But I guess it wouldn't hurt to give them a try. Let me try a few now."
Laci nodded and handed him a few of the blank Medals. Tenebrae summoned his Keyblade, Kingdom Key D, the golden blade shining in the light. He placed a few normal Medals on the Keychain before he put on the experimental ones. When he was content with the load out, he took a few steps away.
Tenebrae held his Keyblade forward and channeled his mana. His mana channeled through the first Medal and gave him a buff. The next Medal unleashed a fire ball, which he sent into the sky. The third Medal was the experimental one. When his mana reached it, it just shined. He felt no different.
Tenebrae looked at his Keyblade in confusion. The others got closer to look. Laci made a face, looking like she was trying to figure it out.
"Weird. I know I did the math right," Laci said. "And your first two spells went through."
"Maybe you guys need to tweak them a little more," Ashley offered. "Maybe there is something in the book?"
Laci shook her head. "I've read it cover to cover, multiple times. I got what I could."
"Then we'll find the solution," Tenebrae said, grabbing Laci's hand and smiling. "I wanna see this succeed. And you have worked hard."
Kingdom Key D started to glow.
"Uh, guys…" Keval said, as he pointed to the Keyblade. "I don't think it's supposed to do that."
Tenebrae looked at Kingdom Key D. The feeling coming from it was unfamiliar. And extremely dangerous. With quick thinking, he tossed it into the air. He pulled Laci into a hug, to shield her from the impending blast. Keval caught on and did the same to Ashley, holding her close.
Kingdom Key D erupted in light. The energy coming from it was more than anticipated. The blast was enough to knock the four Light Protectors off their feet. But they fell longer than they should have.
The four Wielders landed hard, Keval and Tenebrae took most of the impacts. There was a bit of smoke and residual energy from the blast. The four of them were all intact.
"Everyone okay?" Keval called out.
"I'm fine," Ashley said, looking up at him.
"I'm good," Tenebrae called.
"Good!" Laci said, "Also sorry Tenni, I didn't mean to blow up KD."
Tenebrae stood up and helped Laci to her feet. "It's fine. We should both be used to it." He tried to summon his Keyblade. But nothing came. "Okay that's weird." He tried again, but to the same result.
"Everything okay, bro?" Keval asked. He and Ashely were on their feet and walking to the Fire-duo.
"I don't know," Tenebrae said, clenching his hand. "But I can't summon my Keyblade."
"Uh-oh," Laci looked a little guilty. "Sorry, I didn't mean to."
"It's okay, Laci," Ashley said, walking up to the other woman. "The Keyblades are strong. I doubt a blast like that could destroy it."
"She's right," Tenebrae said with a reassuring smile. "Besides, I can still FEEL a connection. But it's not appearing."
"Well in any case," Keval said, "We should make sure there wasn't much damage. And we need to figure out what to do."
The Protectors looked around the immediate area. There was a surprising lack of a crater around them. Everything else about Daybreak Town looked normal. But there was that unfamiliar feeling in the air.
"Well whatever happened," Ashley said, "It did not do a lot of damage. And didn't we fall for a bit? How come there aren't any impact points?"
"Good question." Tenebrae said, putting a hand to his chin. "We should just see if we can find knowledge on what happened. Something is off."
"And I should go check my lab," Laci chimed in. "I wanna double check my research."
"Sounds like a plan," Keval said, standing up straight, "Lala, you and Tenny go to your lab. Ash and I will head to the Library. But be on guard just in case."
The other Wielders nodded. Tenebrae and Laci went deeper into town. Keval and Ashley headed to the edge of town, to head to the Library. None were aware of the pair of eyes watching them. -
Ashley and Keval made it to the Library. It looked the same as usual. The pair entered and started looking around.
"You know," Ashley said, "I'm quite surprised you suggested the Library. You normally prefer action over words."
"Hey when you gotta choose between the lesser of two evils," Keval said, rubbing the back of his head, "You pick em. We both know what will happen when they get there. And I have had enough explosions for one day."
Ashley giggled, but nodded. "Agreed. But still we should see what we can find. Let's take a look."
"Following you, Ash." Keval said with a smirk.
Ashley and Keval looked around. The Library was quiet. Since the others were out, it made sense. But Ashley couldn't help but feel unusual. She pulled at a book, hoping to find anything on the Medals. There was a book that caught her attention.
"Hey Keval," she grabbed the book and flipped through it. Keval was next to her in a second. "This isn't a book I remember reading. It mentions the X-blade."
Keval looked at the book and saw what she saw. "But why does it mention the X-blade being two? And people? I may not have studied much, but that doesn't sound right."
"It isn't." Ashley was confused. "The X-blade is forged by a special method. But it doesn't make sense. At best, a Keyblade is linked to its Wielder. But to depict them as humans, it's unusual."
"Let's take this to Lala and Tenny," Keval suggested. "One of them can probably make heads or tails of this."
"Good idea," Ashley said with a smile. She took the book to the counter. "Hello? I'd like to check out this book!"
There was no answer, as the two Wielders waited. Normally, Serena, the Library Assistant, would be there. It was unusual for her not to be present during hours of operation. The fact that she wasn't worried the Wielders.
"You think this is freaky?" Keval asked. "Cuz there usually is someone in the Library, right?"
"Right…" Ashley clutched the book and looked around. "Come on, let's get this book to Laci and Tene. We need some answers."
"If it's answers you want," a new voice called, "We can provide, Ashley dear."
Ashley and Keval turned to the new voice. Both prepared for the worst. However, they were taken aback by what they saw. -
Tenebrae and Laci walked through town. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. There were some banners and tapestry that weren't there before. They depicted various symbol and emblems that were unfamiliar.
"Laci, does any of this seem unusual to you?" Tenebrae asked. "Like the decorations?"
"Nope!" Laci said, looking ahead. "Once we get to the lab, it won't matter. We just need to know what happened. Everything else can wait."
"I guess that's true," Tenebrae said. "But it doesn't mean we should be lax."
"I know…I…" Laci looked ahead wide-eyed. "Wh..where is it?"
Tenebrae followed her gaze. Normally, he would have been worried, since all the buildings looked the same. But his eyes widened when he realized what that meant. Laci's workshop was gone!
"That's impossible," he said. "Where is your lab?"
Laci got a little teary-eyed. "I don't know…It was there when I left."
Tenebrae put an arm around her and tried to soothe her. It didn't make sense, but whatever was going on was making her sad. But why had the workshop disappeared in the first place?
"All of my research…" Laci said weakly. "It's gone…"
"Come on," Tenebrae tried to lead her away. "We should go meet with Ashley and Keval."
"I kept forgetting how attached you were to that place," a jovial male voice said. "Even though you only spend time there when you have inspiration. But hey, glad to see you close to your man."
Tenebrae and Laci turned to look towards the source of the voice. Their eyes widened when they saw the newcomer.
"Who are you?" Laci asked. -
And here is the first chapter! Who are the people the Protectors met? Are they friend or foe? And will the Protectors figure out what happened?
Find out next time!
