Disclaimer: I swear on The River Styx that I don't own Percy Jackson. If I did there would be fewer character deaths.
Long ago, when the gods were first beginning to come into power and still gaining strength, they feared for their own security. They had many enemies among the immortal beings of the realm.
The gods were still weakened from the Titanomachy and thus created a new group of heroes: the Guardians. The Guardians were no mere heroes though. Raised on Olympus, these brave demigods trained continuously so that they may be ready to defend the gods at any and all times.
At the age of sixteen to seventeen years, each demigod was assigned to a specific god or goddess, and received the blessing of partial immortality, a gift that allows them to live forever, granted they do not die in battle.
Most Guardians were demigod children, though never paired with their own father or mother. Some however, were grand heroes. Heroes with abilities equal to those of a demigod.
The gods viewed their Guardians in different ways. Some saw them as mere servants, tasked with a mission and oath to uphold. Others saw them as partners, and fought as equals. Fewer were willing to take a step even farther and name them as friends. For a mere handful, that relationship expanded into something...more.
The Guardians were honored to serve under their own god or goddess. They were more than willing to fall in battle for those they were charged to protect.
And many did. First came Typhon, the giant sea monster, and greatest threat to the gods. Many Guardians died in that battle, but the gods prevailed and Typhon was forced into slumber.
The Giantomachy came quickly afterwards. Gaea, eager to see her grandchildren destroyed, sired a breed she believed to be unbeatable: the Giants. Giants, who could only be killed by a mortal and God working together in tandem. Fortunately for the Olympians, the presence of their Guardians allowed the gods to triumph over their powerful enemies. The Giants were defeated as well, once again thanks to the Guardians.
Again, the Guardians suffered terrible losses, but those who did survive were honored to fight beside the gods. The gods were not perfect, a fact the Guardians were well aware of, but this only strengthened their commitment to protect and guide the deities as they ruled over the human world.
After the Giantomachy, there remained but one Guardian from the original twelve: the Guardian of Artemis. He was a son of Poseidon, and the strongest of the Guardians. The black-haired, green-eyed boy kept the Guardians together. He was their leader. His personality and attitude warmed the hearts and souls of the gods and Guardians. He inspired loyalty and bravery. He was a spark of Hope. He battled alongside his mistress and her Hunters for many millennias, loyally protecting her and her huntresses.
This Guardian stood by the maiden goddess' side through many, often dangerous, situations, offering counseling, support, protection, and yes, even friendship. Even after the gods disbanded the Guardians, he continued to stand beside his mistress, until his last dying breath.
The Guardian's name was Perseus Jackson, and this is his story.
A/N: So that's the first chapter, I hope you like it so far. Please review it means the world to me.
