Part 5: A different kind of teacher

Jak slowly moved through the spinning gates and dodged them with ease. His eyes closed as he focused on his movements Then he stepped out on the other side taking a quick breath, "Excellent work Jak," said Tenzin smiling while Jinora, Ikki and Milo clapped. Korra was yawning, her facing showing she was tired.

"Thanks Tenzin," Jak said walking to the other side as Korra readied herself to go through it herself. She quickly ran in and not even a few seconds had gone by before the gates hit her.

"Patience Korra," Tenzin said looking serious while Jak sighed.

"Just how late did she get back," he thought before watching as Korra fell onto the ground and he saw the look of anger on her face. She started sending fire blasts at the gates around her. Jak moved the water bottle from his back uncorking it and fired the water at the gates that were on fire and at Korra, sending her flying out the other side.

"That was two thousand year old treasured relic," said Tenzin looking annoyed before looking at Korra as she walked over to them, "What is wrong with you?".

"Sorry Tenzin I tried to stop some of it," said Jak fastening the cap on his bottle.

"Yeah and got me soaked in the process," Korra said looking annoyed.

"Well last time I checked this was air bending training not fire bending training," Jak said looking annoyed.

"Enough," said Tenzin.

"You know what none of this is working, Ive trained exactly like you told me to and nothing has happened, its not clicking like its suppose to," said Korra.

"Korra this is something you cant push, it takes patience," Tenzin explained.

"You know what I think it isn't me, I think the problem is you and your just a terrible teacher," said Korra pointing a finger at him before looking at Jak, "Guess your always going to be better then me," she said before walking away.

"Korra," Jak said before sighing as he placed his right hand on his forehead.

"Yeah you're a terrible teacher daddy," Milo said pointing at Tenzin before he began to kick the pieces fo rubble around. Jinora and Ikki stayed silent as they hugged their father while he looked down.

Later in the evening Jak was using his air bending to clean up the rubble from the Korra's rampage when Tenzin walked up the steps, "Have you seen Korra anywhere, she wasn't at dinner," he said.

"Haven't seen her since earlier," said Jak as he dropped all the pieces into one pile, "Though I might have a good idea where she went," he thought looking towards the stadium remembering where they went yesterday so that she could take a break.

"You know I remember hearing that you werent like this back when you were training at the South Pole," Tenzin said smiling as they took a seat on the steps.

"That's because I had a goal in mind," said Jak looking down at his feet, "Ever since we were kids Korra was excited to be the avatar, as for me," he said lighting a small fire above his left hand.

"It just happened," he said before dispersing it.

"Are you not happy to be an avatar?" Tenzin asked looking serious and Jak shook his head no as he looked towards the ocean.

"I'm actually grateful to be able to bend the other four elements, I only wish my dad was alive back when I sent a boulder flying for the first time," he said laughing a little remembering how his father looked excited when he and his mother tried to find out which element he could bend.

"Come along, I'm sure the two of us together can find her," Tenzin said holding out his hand and Jak took it as they head to the white lotus guard post. All the guards were sitting around a table that had a radio on it.

"Have any of you seen Korra?" Tenzin asked them before they heard from the radio, it was the announcer for the pro bending matches.

"Wait a second folks were getting confirmation now, yes this fire ferrets water bender is one of the avatars ladies and Gentlemen," he said while Tenzin looked annoyed.

"Will go get her ourselves," he said blowing wind around him while Jak sighed before following him. Tenzin grabbed his glider while Jak used his water bending and air bending to get to the staidum.

"How did she even get into the arena in the first place?" Tenzin asked as he landed at the entrance while Jak jumped up from the water.

"This isn't her first time here," he said smiling nervously before walking inside and they headed to the spectator area. Jak could see from where they were standing that the enemy team was focusing on pushing Korra back.

"Come along," Tenzin said ushering for Jak to follow him as they headed to the bottom of the arena where their was small platform under the teams room. They stood on the platform just as Korra climbed out of the water.

"Uh hi Tenzin, I thought you didn't come to these matches," she said climbing out of the water, "Did you tell him I would be here?" She asked looking at Jak.

"No the announcer on the radio made it clear that one of the avatars was playing in a pro bending match, Korra what were you thinking," he said.

"Hey they wouldn't have been able to play if I didn't join and the other guy was a no show," said Korra.

"Well you wont be playing anymore, were leaving right now," said Tenzin.

"No I'm not going anywhere," said Korra looking serious.

"Korra, I told you you need to focus," said Tenzin.

"Yeah well maybe theres a reason I cant air bend, maybe I don't need to bend it all," she said looking up at the arena.

"Don't be ridiculous, the avatar needs to be able to bend all four elements to keep the peace," said Tenzin.

"No my place is here, learning more about modern fighting and Jak you said it yourself it would be good to learn from this," said Korra looking at him to give his opinion.

"Yes I did say that, but its also important to learn how to airbend," Jak said looking serious.

"Alright then, I thought you would at least back me up," said Korra looking down as she walked over to the lift that brought her back up to the arena.

"Lets go Jak, will go wait for her back at the island," said Tenzin walking away before noticing he wasn't being followed.

"I'm going to make sure she gets back," he said before jumping into the air and landing in the fire ferrets locker room. The match started up again as Mako and Bolin were backed into a corner with Korra doing her best to not fall over the edge. She then stood still before dodging the enemy teams attacks by spinning and changing the way she stood as she moved.

Jak look surprised recognizing those moves, it was the way they were suppose to move through the gates. He smiled as Korra hit the enemy team with water, with enough force to push them back and all three of them were now focusing on her. Their focus now changed Mako and Bolin were now able to fight back. The three of them were able to work together and pushed their opponents back before sending them into the water.

The crowd cheered as the fire ferrets had now won the match. Jak leaned against the railing as the lift brought Mako, Bolin and Korra over to the locker room, "I cant believe we won," said Bolin before getting off the lift, "You did amazing out there Korra and those moves,".

"Yeah well someone else thought me those," she said before noticing Jak smiling at her, "Moves," she said.

"And I have to say you did really well with them," he said.

"Yeah she sure did, I'm sorry about everything I said," Mako said rubbing the back of his head.

"That's okay, I should have be apologizing to him too," said Korra before standing in front of Jak.

"Korra," he said before she interrupted him.

"I shouldn't have said that earlier because I knew your goal was never to be better then me and you do back me up most of the time," said Korra smiling nervously before Jak placed a hand on her shoulder.

"I should say sorry too, I should have known that our training for air bending would be like it was back at the South Pole," he said before smiling, "We both have our own way and looks like you found yours,".

"So is it cool that I join them for the upcoming tournament," she said pointing her thumb at Mako and Bolin.

"Sure but maybe tell Tenzin first," said Jak smiling.

"So touching," Bolin said wiping his eyes making the other three laugh. After changing out of her gear the two of avatars headed back to air temple island. They found Tenzin near the training area where the air acolytes were setting up the new gates.

"Hey," Korra said getting their air bending teachers attention, "I'm sorry about what I said earlier about you being a bad teacher," she said.

"No its alright, I tried to teach you patience but in the end I lost my own, but surprisingly it turns out pro bending turned out to be the perfect teacher for you," said Tenzin.

"Wait you stayed behind to watch?" Jak asked looking surprised.

"Yes I did, she really moved like an air bender out there," said Tenzin smiling.

"That's great, so I hope its oaky that I joined the fire ferrets full time and were playing in the upcoming tournament," said Korra before she began walking away, "Ill see you bright and early tomorrow morning for air bending training,".

"She seems excited now," said Tenzin.

"Looks like it," said Jak smiling.

"Even though you were the one who suggested it would be good to learn their style of fighting," said Tenzin making Jak look nervous.

"Well if I didn't learn my own way I would have never had been able to do this," he said jumping into the air and forming an air scooter, "Night Tenzin, see you tomorrow for air bending training," he said before shooting away.

Tenzin sighed but ended up smiling, "Hopefully things will go better for the two of them from now on," he thought.
